We can all have bad days from time to time, but we can make a choice to let it ruin the rest of our day or week, or we can shift our energy and move out of it. This isn't about suppressing or ignoring how you feel, it's about allowing yourself to feel it, process it and move on from it in a healthy and supportive way. In this episode, I'm sharing 5 things you can do to shift your energy when you're having a bad day, how to let yourself actually feel your emotions (without guilt or shame!) and how to release that energy from your body and move forwards. Hi there, Easy Ager! Today's episode offers a little more perspective on the midlife thoughts that I talked about in the previous episode (#53). It's about how your midlife thinking affects whether you're going to have a "good day" or a "bad day." And it all gets down to one simple question. Take a listen and be sure to SHARE THIS EPISODE with a friend. Cheers, Z
Welcome to this week's episode of The AUSA Podcast! This is a conversation we've been wanting to have on the pod here for a while, and this season we finally felt poised well enough to do it. It's a pretty real and raw one, so strap in. This week, Dr. Wyma, a professor at AU, and Luke talk about suffering, disappointment, grief, and asking for help. Ultimately, this episode is about how to handle a bad day — to clarify, we're using “bad day” as a sort of shorthand for a difficult time of disappointment, grief, struggle, heartache, and so on. We walk through some appropriate (and inappropriate) responses to and about God in the face of suffering, how to manage bad days maturely and wisely, what Jesus' human experience means for our grief and sadness, and how to show compassion to ourselves and others in the midst of suffering. Thanks for listening! If you enjoyed this episode or anything we talked about peaked your interest, we'd love to start a conversation! Do us a favor and share it with your friends, and if you have thoughts or questions you can DM us on Instagram @au411. Now that we think of it, to keep up with all things AU Student Activities, visit our Instagram @au411! Here are some of the resources that were talked about in this episode (or used while planning this episode) if you're curious about doing some in-depth exploring on your own! Books: "Abraham's Silence" by J. Richard Middleton; "Prayer in the Night: For Those Who Work Or Watch Or Weep" by Tish Harrison Warren; "A Curious Faith: The Questions God Asks, We Ask, and We Wish Someone Would Ask Us" by Lore Ferguson Wilbert; "God on Mute: Engaging the Silence of Unanswered Prayer" by Pete Greig; "The Fire Next Time" by James Baldwin. How often do you experience “bad days”? When asked this question, MOI teacher Jonathan Woodside genuinely answered that he never has a bad day anymore. He attributes this to two things: (1) living a skillful life by avoiding harm and (2) viewing every experience (both pleasant and unpleasant) as an opportunity for insight. Of course, this naturally arises from the fruits of mindfulness and meditation practice. But it is also more nuanced than that. In this talk, Jonathan goes into detail about following the precepts, seeing into the nature of reality, letting go of preferences, and establishing a deep intimacy with mindfulness practice when life feels too busy. He says it's about being mindful of when the mind is entangled with suffering and when it is free of craving. In the end, Johnathan encourages us to continually ask ourselves, “How is the mind right now? Is there suffering or not?” If you feel inspired by these teachings, and wish to practice generosity, please consider supporting MOI and its teachers by visiting, https://mindfulnessoutreachinitiative.org/generosity/
Today I talk about 3 ways to turn a BAD day into a GOOD day! Sometimes it is really small things that we need to do to change our mindset in the day. Watch this if you're having a bad day and I promise it will make it better! In this video, I talk about how to make a bad day good, and how to change your attitude and mindset to be more happy. Being sad doesn't have to be a permanent state of being. You can overcome it simply by changing how you sing. So the next time you're feeling upset, try singing the “It's Gonna Be A Good Day” tune to cheer yourself up (even if you're terrible at singing like I am!) Save this one for when you have a bad day!We all have bad days. Bad days are going to happen. There are times when you can be positive and push through the muck and there are others where you simply need to sit back and accept your bad day.Today is NOT my day!Last week, I had one of those days. I woke up in crappy mood, wasn't feeling great, had all this stuff to do, hurt my toe, got stung by a wasp...and the hits just kept coming!I finally said, "I'm having a bad day!" I told my kids and asked for a little grace that day. I accepted the bad day and lived in my bad day. And you can do that. That is totally acceptable. However, this is the key here - know that it is YOUR bad day. Don't go spreading it to others and blaming others. You can let them know, "Warning - I'm having a bad day!" But don't go trumping on other's days. You are totally welcome to your bad day, but you don't need to pull people in with out.The same with your kids! Often we can expect more out of our kids when it comes to their moods. But we all have bad days - babies, kids, adults...even dogs and cats!Let your kids know the same - they can have a bad day, but it is theirs to have.Next time you or your kid is having a bad day, accept it. Live in it. You don't always have to be positive there is value in acceptance.www.allyoumama.comIG -@MeghanQBarrett
