"If I can't say no to the Big Mac, or if I can't get my body to move intentionally, there's an element of self-mastery I don't possess. And so therefore I cannot give." ~ Chase CrouseWhat does John Paul II's Theology of the Body actually have to do with skipping the gym or ordering the Big Mac?Why might chasing your old "glory days" workout be the exact thing keeping you from getting healthier now? What's the real difference between comparing yourself to a fitness influencer and imitating a saint? In episode 107 of This Whole Life, Pat and Kenna Millea sit down with Chase Crouse, founder of Hypuro Fit, a Catholic fitness and nutrition coaching platform built to help people grow in strength, discipline, and virtue. Chase served as a missionary with Net Ministries before earning degrees in biblical theology, and he shares the exact moment reading John Paul II's Theology of the Body that changed how he saw exercise entirely: the realization that self-donation is impossible without self-mastery, and that gift of self to God and others requires a body and will that are actually trained to give. From there, the conversation moves into the practical side of that theology. Chase breaks down why so many people fail to build a fitness habit, either chasing an all-or-nothing intensity from their athlete days or never having built any tolerance for discomfort at all, and introduces the idea of minimal effective dosing, doing the least amount necessary to get real results rather than burning out on unsustainable extremes.Kenna and Chase also dig into the difference between comparison and imitation, why social media makes fitness advice feel like hard science when it's actually full of nuance, and how the Catholic tradition has always framed imitation, of Christ and the saints, as the true goal rather than something to feel shamed by. Chase closes with the one piece of practical wisdom he gives every client trying to build a healthier morning routine. This episode is for anyone who has ever wondered if caring about their physical health is a distraction from their spiritual life, or anyone looking for permission to start smaller than they think they need to.Chapters:(00:00) - Cold Open(00:30) - Welcome and Meet Chase Crouse(02:42) - High and Hard: Postpartum Health and a New Book Launch(17:08) - From Personal Training to Founding Hypuro Fit(18:36) - The Theology of the Body Lightbulb Moment(28:17) - Why Habits Are Hard and the Power of Minimal Effective Dosing(39:35) - Filtering Fitness Advice: Comparison vs Imitation on Social Media(53:33) - Sleep, Prayer, and a Final Challenge by ChoiceLinks and Resources:Chase Crouse and Hypuro Fit - https://www.hypurofit.org/Sanctify Your Day: A Structure to Live an Intentional, Healthy, and Holy Life - https://sophiainstitute.com/product/sanctify-your-day/The God of Endurance: A Practical Guide for Incorporating Exercise and Nutrition into Your Spiritual Journey - https://sophiainstitute.com/product/the-god-of-endurance/Support the showThank you for listening, and a very special thank you to our community of supporters!Join our email list and never miss an episode or an eventVisit us online at thiswholelifepodcast.com, and send us an email with your thoughts, questions, or ideas.Follow us on Instagram & FacebookInterested in more faith-filled mental health resources? In this episode of the Mastering Rod Building Podcast, Bill Falconer talks with longtime custom rod builder Mark Crouse, also known as the Munich Rod Man, about 52 years of rod building, custom craftsmanship, 3D printing, carbon fiber grips, and building a recognizable personal style.Mark shares how he started fishing as a child and built his first rod at age 12 after his mother brought home a blank from a closing sporting goods store. With limited access to parts in Germany, he learned to improvise with parachute cord, electrical tape, goose quills, and whatever materials he could find.Bill and Mark discuss Mark's wide range of rod building skills, including decorative wraps, cork, wood, birch, acrylic, carbon fiber, marbling, finish work, custom butt caps, reel seats, trim pieces, and ergonomic grip designs. The conversation also goes deep on how Mark is using 3D printing to create custom reel seats, winding checks, grip shells, trim parts, and carbon fiber-covered handles. He explains filament choices, printer setup, heat resistance, wall thickness, carbon fiber sleeves, and why 3D printing gives rod builders new ways to create truly one-of-a-kind components.Mark also shares thoughts on matte finishes, ultralight rods, fly rod handle fit, hydro dipping, custom inlays, and why serious rod builders should focus on developing their own style instead of copying someone else's work. The episode also includes details on the 2026 Mastering Rod Building Seminar, happening August 14–16 at the Orange Beach Event Center at The Wharf in Orange Beach, Alabama. The weekend will feature hands-on rod building education, seminars, meals, a Saturday crawfish and shrimp boil, discounted lodging nearby, and fellowship with the rod building community. Pearl is a queer pastor with a PhD in history. Rev Kev is a former missionary who now sometimes identifies as an atheist pastor. Together, they are forming a new church community in Maitland — with misfits front of mind. Will is joined by Pearl and Kev in Mitch Forbes' office, where the four of them have a conversation about queering the bible, exploring negative/apophatic theology and how these approaches might translate into the formation of a new church.Want to reach out and let us know your thoughts or suggestions for the show? Myjourney to meeting Lindsay Crouse fits. Now, one of my most endearing andpoignant afternoons. How does this happen? I watch ‘All the President's Men' asa journalist every eight weeks. A bit OCD. Two weeks ago, I wondered who playedKay Eddy at the Washington Post. Lindsay Crouse. A bright light bulb. ‘SlapShot' with Paul Newman. All her roles are complicated women. Energized, I reached out, something I've never done. Here weare. I love it when my cerebral process is swirling with input. Lindsay isbrilliant, accomplished, gracious, passionate, and consummate. Beneath thecamera on Zoom, I ceremoniously pinch myself. There is so much to thisinterview with Lindsay. You all need to watch. Replete with synchronicity andspirituality. Her father, Russel Crouse, was an accomplished playwrightwith Howard Lindsay. (A Tony Award for the book, ‘Sound of Music.') Her mother,Anna, was an actress and activist. She learned it's a privilege to be an actor. Her father asked whether she wanted to act. He said, “It's a dirty business.” I'm frozen, absorbingher words. She studied with Uta Hagen, Sandy Meisner (both legends), andElizabeth Dickson (who taught Katherine Hepburn). All that instructional energywent into Lindsay's performance in ‘The Verdict.' I watched the movie onSunday. Lindsay is amazingly riveting. Then her Academy Award-nominatedperformance in ‘Places in the Heart.' Her director, Robert Benton, from Texas, was brilliant. The movie's ending is brilliant. Someone said, after beingnominated for the Academy Award, “It will be tough for you now.” Working with her then-husband David Mamet in ‘House ofGames'. A minimalist director. “We trusted each other.” I asked another question. Lindsay answered,“Abraham Lincoln.” Enough said for now. A sumptuous, magical interview. Lindsayis perfectly gracious.” Calvin

Have you ever felt like your fitness goals are walking a tightrope between vanity on one side and neglecting your health on the other? In this episode of The Catholic Coaching Podcast, Matt sits down with Chase Crouse, co-founder of HiPurO Fit, to uncover a Theology of the Body-inspired approach to fitness and nutrition. Moving past secular fitness culture's obsession with endless "optimization" and look-at-me aesthetics, Chase re-frames physical discipline through the lens of St. John Paul II: pursuing self-mastery so that we can fully live out our vocations. We discuss:• The origin of HiPurO Fit and why Chase walked away from secular gym sales tactics.• How JP2's "Law of Gift" applies to what we eat and how we train ("You cannot give what you don't have").• Balancing physical sleep and recovery with spiritual devotions (and why you shouldn't try to be a monk if you're in an active vocation!).• The Catholic approach to nutrition: avoiding diet extremes and focusing on human integration.• The hilarious (and inspiring) story of a priest who literally got "too ripped" for his vestments.• The "Mustard Seed" approach to starting your health journey when you're at zero.If you are a parent, professional, or ministry leader struggling to find the energy to serve the people you love, this episode will help you shift from shame to a beautifully ordered view of the body God gave you.Connect with Chase & HiPurO Fit:Website & Free Trial: https://www.hypurofit.org/Send us Fan MailSupport the show____________________► Make sure to SUBSCRIBE to the Metanoia Catholic YouTube Channel!► Discover How God Is Speaking to You In Prayer► Find out your temperament: Take the Free Quiz► Get the Conversation Starter Guide (FREE) ► Take the Quiz: WHAT TYPE OF COACH ARE YOU?► GET THE DAILY SEVEN JOURNAL!This interactive journal will help you transform your life from the inside out by teaching you how to grow in gratitude, set healthy goals, and gain mastery over your thoughts.► JOIN THE ACADEMY!Your online resource of classes, tools, and community to ramp up your growth and really change your life. In this episode of The Plant Movement Podcast, host Willie Rodriguez talks with Keith Crouse, a 23-year-old firefighter from the Keys who decided to take the leap and start a nursery in Homestead, FL.Keith didn't grow up with a nursery, he built one from the ground up on his days off. In this episode, Deacon Charlie sits down with Chase Crouse, founder of Hypuro, a Catholic fitness ministry that integrates physical discipline with spiritual growth. Chase shares his inspiring journey from a nominal Catholic upbringing to a profound reversion sparked by Matthew Kelly's Rediscover Catholicism. He discusses how fitness became a cornerstone of his spiritual life, drawing from St. John Paul II's Theology of the Body and the concept of active and passive purgation to frame exercise as a modern form of asceticism.Hypuro Fithttps://www.hypurofit.org/Speed Round Fitness Ratings (Scale: 1–10, 10 being awesome):Ozempic: 5 (situational; depends on medical need).Weighted Vests: 3 (overhyped, useful for some but not essential).Pilates: 5 (better than nothing, but Chase hasn't tried it).CrossFit/Functional Fitness: Varies (10 for great coaches, -10 for poor ones; coach quality critical to avoid injury).Infrared Sauna: 6–7 (enjoyable, not essential).Cold Exposure: 7–8 for athletes needing recovery, lower for general muscle-building goals.Hyrox: 8 (fun and challenging, especially as a team event).P90X: 3–4 (dated but better than nothing).
