BC Lions and CFL football are discussed in this podcast hosted by Brian Wawryshyn of BCLionsDen.ca and his co-host Mojo Kemp. We are the original and unofficial BC Lions fan based podcast. We bring BC Lions discussion player, staff and media interviews to you throughout the CFL season.
The Pawdcast return for what we hope will be a season filled with exciting BC Lions and CFL Football, cause we could sure use some these days! BC Lions Co-General Manager and Director of Football Operations, Neil McEvoy joins the show to talk about his 26 year rise to the GM's chair, his philosophy for building a winning football team and more. Brian and Mojo all the things that have happened with the Lions during the pandemic hiatus and take a quick glance at the roster as it stands today.
Episode 147: Jordan Williams and Farhan Lalji What a world we're living in right now with the Covid 19 pandemic. I never thought we would be interviewing the CFL's first overall draft pick and talking about the survival of the CFL in the same episode. However, that's exactly what we're doing in Episode 147, as we welcome the BC Lions newest linebacker Jordan Williams to the show to get his thoughts on the Lions trading up to get him, what type of player Lions fans can expect to see, and the fact that given his choice, he'd rather be a running back. We'll then welcome back TSN's Farhan Lalji to talk about the Lions off-season as well as the challenges that lie ahead for the Canadian Football League. Out of isolation and into your ear buds, welcome to Episode 147, brought to you by http://renfrowfootball.com/ (JR Football) and Metal Rocks.
Episode 146: Randy Ambrosie Well, I finally got around to posting this. Sickness, self-isolation and dealing with Covid 19 ramifications at work delayed it. Just over two weeks ago I was invited by the BC Lions to their practice facility in Surrey to have a one on one chat with CFL Commissioner Randy Ambrosie. He talked about his tour across Canada, CFL 2.0 year two and answers some of your questions. It's an abbreviated episode and I'm flying solo without Mojo, but given our current situation in the sports world I am happy yo bring you 20 minutes or so if CFL talk. Thank you to the BC Lions for the invite to chat with Randy!
The Pawdcast is back to kick off Season 8 of the show and we're coming in hot with Rick Campbell, new head coach of the BC Lions and offensive lineman Justin Renfrow, who helped improve the Lions offensive line last year, and is a pending CFL free agent. We also announce our new sponsorship partnership with Justin and his non profit clothing line, JR Football. Rick Campbell talks about being a kid during the Eskimos dynasty years, building a program from scratch in Ottawa and how excited he is to add the defensive coordinator role to his head coaching title. Justin Renfrow talks candidly about his community involvement and where those values that are instilled in come from. We also chat about the challenges he faced in college, and the Marshawn Lynch snub in the Super Bowl that he was a part of while with the Seattle Seahawks. It's good to be back, Season 8 is going to be great!
DeVone Claybrooks was the first casualty of a 5-13 season on Wednesday, as the Lions announced he had been relieved of his duties. Was he a scapegoat or were there solid reasons for the decision not to bring him back? Ed Hervey hinted there may be, while many fans were not happy with the news. Farhan Lalji was at the Ed Hervey press conference and stops in to offer his thoughts, and after listening to him, you may feel the answer to the above questions lies a little more in the middle than you thought. We also take a look at what lies ahead for the Lions as another off-season of uncertanty begins, with potential new ownership, many areas to address with a new coaching staff again, and the roster needs. Ed Hervey and the BC Lions saw their season come to an end last week and now the GM heads into his second year on the job without Wally Buono's input and with a ton of questions to be answered this off-season. Who will be the new head coach? What coordinators will they bring in? What about the long list of free agents the Lions have to deal with and how will that process be affected by the pending new CBA? Will the new core include guys like Solomon Elimimian, Manny Arceneaux or Travis Lulay? Or will Hervey put his mark on this team by doing another big roster turnover? How about ownership? Will Davis Braley still be the Lions owner when the 2019 season starts? Brian and Mojo take it from start to finish this week in a season wrap up episode that discusses these issues and a lot more.
