She learned about triathlon and signed up for her first race a few weeks later. Seely was a member of the Arizona State University collegiate club triathlon team and a nationally ranked triathlete before her diagnosis. In 2010, Seely was diagnosed with Chiari II Malformation, basilar invagination, and Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, which affect her brain, spine, and connective tissues.   After her first surgery, she was back to competing seven weeks later at the USA Triathlon Collegiate National Championships with ASU. She made her debut as an elite paratriathlete in 2012, earning bronze at the ITU Paratriathlon World Championships that year. Then in 2013, Seely had her left leg amputated below the knee due to complications and increased spasticity in her foot. That would move her into a new paratriathlon category — but she continued to thrive, winning five gold medals on the elite ITU circuit in 2014. She earned her first two world championship titles in 2015 and 2016.   At the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games, Seely made history by winning a gold medal in paratriathlon's debut as a Paralympic medal event. She also competed in track & field at the Rio Games, placing sixth in the 200m. That same year, she was a featured athlete in ESPN the Magazine's Body Issue. Seely has been dominant in the women's PTS2 division since Rio, earning silver at the 2017 World Championships and winning her third career world title in 2018 after an undefeated 2018 elite season. In July of 2019, Seely won an ESPY for Best Female Athlete with a Disability. She faced significant health challenges in late 2020 and early 2021, spending several months in the hospital with endocarditis, severe inflammation of the heart. She returned to full-time training in the spring, regaining her fitness in time to earn a silver medal at the Americas Triathlon Para Championships June 27 in Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin, a key selection event for the Tokyo Games.   She says her biggest inspiration in life is her grandma for pushing her to be a better athlete and human and to make the world around her better. She also credits her service dog Mowgli as being a great training and life partner. When she travels for competitions, Seely collects postcards and mini silver spoons from each location. Her favorite spoon is a hand-painted ceramic spoon from Estonia, and some of her favorite places that she has traveled to are Northern Ireland and Poland. She says her name is spelled “Allysa” because of a misspelling on her birth certificate, and of her biggest talents outside of triathlon is creating DIY projects.     Our News is sponsored by Buddy Insurance. NHL – Sabres end 8-month stalemate by trading Jack Eichel to Vegas The Jack Eichel era in Buffalo is over. The Sabres have ended an eight-month stalemate by trading their former captain and face of the franchise to the Vegas Golden Knights. The trade ends a bitter feud between Eichel and Buffalo over how to repair his herniated disk, which has sidelined him since March. The dispute revolved around the NHL's collective bargaining agreement giving teams the final say over the treatment of injuries. The Golden Knights have granted Eichel permission to have the artificial disk replacement surgery he preferred, though the recovery timetable means he'll likely miss most if not all of the remainder of the season. Buffalo acquired forward Alex Tuch, rookie center Peyton Krebs and two draft picks. "You are an Ironman." One of sports' most iconic phrases will be heard thousands of times at the inaugural Ironman California in Sacramento. Legendary race announcer Mike Reilly coined that signature phrase 30 years ago. That simple declaration is what finishers crave hearing after what's known as the toughest one-day race on the planet. The Ironman Triathlon is 2.4 miles of swimming, 112 miles of cycling and a full marathon. Athletes have 17 hours to finish the 140.6-mile race. It's Mike's job to welcome them to the finish line. You could say it's his calling. He is equal parts cheerleader, hype man and finish line friend. He has the unique ability to make the last finisher feel like they won the race. "I say their name and the you (part of the phrase) comes out and you see them straighten up, no matter how much they're hurting," he said. "They look up almost to the sky because they know it's coming and it's that exclamation point on who they are, what they did." On this Dying to Ask: What Mike has learned about life and human nature in 30 years of announcing Ironman How Mike practices the names of thousands of athletes Why so many people are drawn to events like Ironman coming out of the pandemic

Matt and Ty are back with a whole new podcast, rebranded as the Sports Hub Underground. The guys explain the meaning behind the change, before launching into a season preview for the 2021-22 Boston Bruins. Among the topics... -- The Bruins may have their best forward depth in years with additions like Erik Haula, Nick Foligno, and Tomas Nosek. And how will the second line look now with Charlie Coyle at center and Taylor Hall driving the action? Most importantly, is it enough depth around them to legitimately contend for the Stanley Cup? (4:11) -- Charlie McAvoy is about to get paid big-time. Is this also the year he takes a big jump with his offensive numbers? The guys also take a closer look at how newcomer Derek Forbort will fit into the lineup, and why Brandon Carlo and Mike Reilly will likely stick together all season. (24:13) -- In goal, the Bruins aren't paying as high a price as people believe, compared to the rest of the league. Ty explains why he thinks Tuukka Rask will re-sign, and the guys go over the possible scenarios for when he returns. (37:20) -- Finally, Matt & Ty get into some big-picture NHL topics. They have some thoughts on the new national broadcasts on ESPN and TNT, and their picks to win the Stanley Cup in 2022. Hint: They both picked the same team, and it's not the Bruins. In addition, we have been tracking developments at the collegiate level over the last several months, including continued online learning and student-athlete travel restrictions at many colleges and universities. Having taken these circumstances into consideration, and after consulting with members of the USA Triathlon Collegiate Club Committee, we have made the difficult decision to postpone the 2021 Collegiate Club National Championships.   USA Triathlon is working diligently to find an alternate date in the fall of 2021 to host Collegiate Club Nationals in a safe and fair way for all athletes, including those with graduation dates in 2020 or 2021 who would otherwise miss the opportunity to represent their school as a senior. We will communicate any updates to the Collegiate Club Committee and all collegiate club team leaders as appropriate.     A 3D-printed custom cycling shoe, the LoreOne, will launch in April Olympian and longtime bike fitter Colby Pearce has partnered with a new company Lore for a 3D-printed custom road cycling shoe. The LoreOne, a hardshell, carbon cycling shoe, will launch in April.   Lore will 3D print the shoes using scans of a rider’s feet. The resulting carbon monocoque design will be more efficient than other shoes, while still allowing a rider’s feet to move “freely and powerfully” inside the hardshell structure, Lore claims.   How much does it cost? How much does it weigh? And how comfortable could a hardshell carbon shoe actually be? For now, Lore is big on claims and short on details, but those are promised for its April launch.   The Lore team includes people who have worked in design and engineering at brands like Apple, Tesla, Puma, DPS, Nike and Black Diamond.   “We are excited to share Lore to the world,” Lore CEO Stephan Drake said in a release. “We have an amazing team that is pushing the bleeding edge of technology and design. The LoreOne is not only the most exciting cycling shoe ever made, but is revolutionary across all footwear categories. The level of customization, performance, materials, environmental sustainability, and manufacturing technology represent a bold leap into the future.”   Pearce, a multi-time national champion and record holder, has long obsessed over fit, whether for record-setting hour record rides or for his bike-fitting clients.   “The technology, materials, design and manufacturing is light years ahead of everything else on the market,” Pearce said. “The way the athlete works with the shoe is groundbreaking, and the foothold is unparalleled. The Lore project is three massive steps forward from any other shoe on the market. Prepare to have your head explode while your feet feel true power transfer for the first time ever. The LoreOne shoe will change the way you interact with your bike, forever.”   Lore’s website is Lore.cc.     What's New in the 303:   USA Cycling Supports Colorado League – Free Junior Memberships, More Exposure for Collegiate Programs USA Cycling has joined the family of Colorado League sponsors for 2021-2023.  Together, these organizations are dedicated to advancing opportunities for young mountain bike riders in Colorado, southern Wyoming, and northern New Mexico to ensure a promising future for the sport. Through developing youth cycling opportunities and cultivating leadership, teamwork, and community, and creating a lifelong passion for cycling, we work towards a common goal of getting more kids on bikes and keep them riding through life.     Megan Hottman’s First Time In Tucson Riding and Exploring While I’ve spent a lot of time in Arizona in my life, I’ve never made it to Tucson. When I began mapping out my vanlist dreamlist of places I wanted to do, Tucson was on the list. For very specific reasons: I wanted to ride the “loop,” this amazing network of protected bike lanes all over town, totaling close to 130 miles (basically, a bike advocate’s dream come true, short of visiting Copenhagen!); and, I’ve wanted to ride Mt Lemmon, a nice long sustained climb that I’ve heard about for years.   So I set up my work week to allow for a midweek visit. Because vanlife and living a life by design, on purpose, to me means maximizing the days and times during the week as opposed to only seeking fun and adventure on weekends — you know, when the rest of humanity is out doing the same. Friends, weekday exploration is where it’s at. So- looking ahead, I crushed work and adulting and then punched out for a Midweek adventure..     Video of the Week: We NEED to talk about this IRONMAN “Update”         Closing: Thanks again for listening in this week.  Please be sure to follow us @303endurance and of course go to iTunes and give us a rating and a comment.  We'd really appreciate it! From their beginnings in mid-Sixties Ohio as a group of friends playing cover tunes to the present-day unit featuring founding member/pedal-steel innovator John David Call, veteran bassist Mike Reilly, propulsive drummer Scott Thompson and guitar ace Donnie Clark, PURE PRAIRIE LEAGUE continues to embellish the rich 43-year history of one of Country-Rock’s pioneering forces. As one reviewer recently wrote: “PPL’s sound combines sweet memories with edgy, contemporary muscle. Their vocals are as strong as Kentucky moonshine and the musicianship and performance skills are as sharp as a straight razor”. Their eponymous first album – featuring the Norman Rockwell/Saturday Evening Post cover that introduced fans to PPL’s trademark cowpoke “Sad Luke” – has been hailed as a “major early influence in the emerging popularity of Country-Rock music”. Their second effort, the multi- platinum “Bustin’ Out” brought us the Craig Fuller-penned classic “Amie”, along with other gems of the genre. With “Two Lane Highway”, nine more albums and countless shows, a legacy has been forged and enriched during the ‘70s and 80’s, highlighting contributions from several noteworthy members, including original co-founder George Ed Powell, Cincinnati’s legendary Goshorn Brothers, Country Hall of Famers Gary Burr and Vince Gill, award-winning writer Jeff Wilson (3 Top-20 singles) and a host of other guest appearances from Chet Atkins, Johnny Gimble, Emmy Lou Harris, David Sanborn, Eagle Don Felder, Nicolette Larson, and many more. Now in their fifth decade, Pure Prairie League continues to lead the way for the new generation of Country/Rockers such as Keith Urban, Nickel Creek, Wilco, Counting Crows and so many others that cite PPL as a major influence. As crisp and clean as spring water and as comfortable as a well-worn cowboy shirt, Pure Prairie League still brings it all back home.
