A lot of people are worried to choose one thing because they think they will end up being stuck doing that thing forever. So, they waiver in indecision and take no action at all. However, it is actually not choosing which leaves you stuck, or pigeonholed.In reality, it's not about what you choose to do to make meaningful income, but rather who you become while you do it. If you want to create meaningful income (or any big result) in your life, it's really helpful to learn a little bit about how your brain(s) work. Think of yourself as having two brains that want completely different things; like Siamese twins fighting for different career paths. Your animal brain wants only to seek immediate survival by seeking pleasure, avoiding pain, and doing it efficiently. Your human brain wants things like meaning, lasting happiness, and fulfillment. If you don't learn how to put your human brain in charge, your animal brain runs the show. Then you end up putting your dreams on the back burner, using lots of drugs and eating a lot of donuts. Thankfully, your human brain is equipped to override your animal brain. All you have to do is learn how to manage your thoughts and feel your emotions.
Never underestimate the real cost of living a small life. All that you could be is not only wasted for yourself but also for your friends, family, kids, and the world. Imagine who you could become if you were willing to do things that scared you the most. Imagine if you voluntarily confronted the truth of your life with humility like a fool at the beginning of his/her journey. Playing it safe to feel secure is not an act of nobility. Should you decide to say NO to yourself, know that the consequences are far greater than you imagine. *This episode is a little bit heavier than most of my podcasts, but I feel that it needs to be. Loving the decisions you make is always an option. You have two options after you make a decision: You can either find evidence for the decision, or you can find evidence against it. Choosing to regret decisions is a game that you will always lose. It creates unnecessary suffering and blocks you from the benefits and knowledge the decision has to offer you. It is always a better choice to find reasons why you love the decision you made, even if... you wouldn't make that same decision again.
One of the most important things that you can ever learn how to do is separate fact from story. Facts, or circumstances, are things that are outside of your control. Thoughts are sentences in your mind that are always 100% optional. When you're able to separate facts from thoughts, you gain the ability to create results regardless of your circumstances. You also learn that facts don't have the ability to hurt you or create emotions. This understanding is the key to creating a life that is both meaningful and fulfilling.
When it comes to rational, scientific thinking, I am a huge fan. However, there is an element of the self-help/life coaching world that cannot and should not be explained away rationally. It is often referred to as woo-woo, pseudoscience, mysticism, supernatural, or occult. In this episode, I talk about why it is so important to sometimes consider believing before having evidence to do so. When you can believe in the unseen, magical things happen. At the end of life, people regret the things they didn't do far more than the things they did. The presence of fear marks that we are on the right path. I originally decided to study psychology in an attempt to learn about motivation. Little did I know that the answers I was seeking would eventually be found in the self-help world of life coaching. Our current beliefs create our current results.So, if you want to change your life, you have to start by changing what you believe about yourself, your potential, and the world. The best news anyone can ever give you is that you have 100% control to believe whatever you want. A lot of us completely miss out on this opportunity by unconsciously recycling the same limiting beliefs that have been taught to us by our parents and society. Only you get to decide what to believe about life but you've got to be willing to question everything you currently believe about yourself and what's possible. If you believed that you were 100% worthy exactly as you were, how would you show up differently at work, with your family, and to yourself?
This is a question that I get asked all the time and an episode that I was excited to record. In order to make big decisions in your life, there are a couple of guidelines that I like to follow. The biggest thing is to remember that there is no such thing as a "right" or "wrong" choice. It is also really important to make decisions from a place of complete emotional responsibility.
When we don't know what we want from life, we often feel frustrated, overwhelmed, and stuck. These emotions typically do not lead to us finding answers or taking action. In addition, it is very common for us not to believe that what we really want is possible. When we don't believe that we can have (or deserve) what we actually want, we end up on paths that make us unexcited about our futures. People are always asking me what they should do with their lives and how to find out when they don't know. This episode is my answer.
Emotions are the reason for all of our actions and inactions. In this episode, I talk about the four ways in which we can deal with our emotions. Our willingness to experience emotions is the key to living out our dreams. However, our society teaches us to do the opposite. One of my favorite thoughts to practice believing is that at this moment, you are exactly where you should be. We all want to rush to happiness but in doing so, we miss the entire point that you don't need your circumstances to change in order to change how you feel. Where you are right now is the perfect place to learn how to manage your mind. Today, I speak to someone who is currently demonstrating what it is to make meaningful income. I met Jack Lewandowski when I was working at the psychiatric hospital. At the time, he was working as a recreational therapist. Today, he has taken a career shift into the transportation industry where he works as a flight attendant. We talk about how his jobs fit into his own definition of meaningful income and wrap the episode up with a little bit of coaching. Enjoy!
A lot of people stop investing in themselves after they finish high school or college. They're willing to work 60 hours a week for 10 years to buy a new Tesla and a $450,000 house but be completely unwilling to invest in their physical and mental health. If this strategy worked in the long run, I'd be all in, but it doesn't and often leads to a crisis in midlife. In order to continually be satisfied with our lives as we age, we have to keep investing in ourselves. We need to dedicate time, money, and energy to things that will better us like learning, exercising, eating healthy, sleeping, and coaching. When was the last time you spend more than $1,000 on something that will increase your value over time? A lot of people would be more willing to spend $3,000 on a vacation to Las Vegas than $2,000 on an 8-week coaching program that will dramatically change their life.
You get exactly what you plan for. That's why goals are such an important tool in building extraordinary lives. Goals are a way to direct our minds so that we don't spend too much time in pleasure-seeking and instant gratification. What results have you planned to get over the next year... two years.... five years? We don't plan because we want to avoid the discomfort that setting big goals for ourselves brings. Well, the truth is you're going to be uncomfortable either way. So you might as well plan to get something you want out of it.
