The great Joe Wilkinson joins us this week to discuss his involvement in Last One Laughing UK for Amazon Prime. While he is with us, it was great to discuss his love and fondness for the Steve Martin/Carl Reiner film, The Man with Two Brains.
Steve Martin and Carl Reiner team up again for the third time in their spoof of classic sci-fi movies. Starring Martin, Kathleen Turner (in only her second feature film!), and David Warner (with an uncredited cameo from Sissy Spacek). It's everything you want from Steve's Hot Carl.

This episode is late? Yeah! Of course it is! I was trapped in a small-ish room for a week and a half and I couldn't get out until I opened six brief cases that each contained one piece of a puzzle that when placed together formed a star map that lined up with a constellations poster on that wall that helped me triangulate a latitude and longitudinal direction that corresponded to a password on a computer that allowed me to unlock the door and finally exit! And if you think that's crazy just wait until you tune in to this episode of Saves Together where you'll hear all about our time playing co-op through Escape Simulator Other topics include: Dragon Age: Origin, Dragon Age II, Dragon Age: Inquisition, Dungeons of Hinterberg, Deathbulge: Battle Of The Bands, Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess, The Bouncer, Persona 3 Reload, Metal Slug Attack Reloaded, The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons, Dress to Impress and more

Anne and Ryan discuss Yorgos Lanthimos's gothic comedy POOR THINGS starring Emma Stone, Mark Ruffalo and Willem Dafoe. Based on a novel by Alasdair Gray, POOR THINGS tells the fantastical tale of Bella Baxter (Stone), a Victorian era woman resurrected from the dead through a brain transplant. Escaping her constrictive environs with a rapidly maturing mind, Bella experiences an intellectual and sexual awakening traveling throughout London, Lisbon, Alexandria, and Paris. Released at the end of 2023, POOR THINGS received praise for the performances of Stone, Dafoe, Ruffalo, as well as its innovative production design, costumes and musical score. But what will MAMA NEEDS A MOVIE have to say about Lanthimos' twisted variation on Frankenstein? Observe our grisly dissection of POOR THINGS, along with divisions into The Curse, The Man with Two Brains, Yellow Submarine, NYAD, Frankenhooker, Good Time, Bunnicula, and much, much more! #120 Today, we are re-visiting a foundational topic–one that many other marriage professionals do not address, but is essential to understand as an HSP–because it is the very SOURCE of so much that goes awry in our marriages--and the source of what makes them amazing, too. As humans we all come into this world having inherited a “set of equipment” that can make things really hard in love –if we don't understand it. We can use this genetic inheritance for or against us in love. How we relate to it and work with it makes ALL the difference in our marriages. To understand this in a basic way is to start stepping into your capacity to steer your marriage where you want it to go, instead of feeling like you are at the mercy of your own, and your significant other's, negative feelings and behaviors. Your capacity for having ever-deepening love in your life as an HSP requires understanding this--and keeping it forefront in your mind. So revisit this topic with me (or listen in for the first time) to begin to do so, and to become way more more compassionate towards yourself and able to harness the power you have to make your marriage the loving one you want it to be.SHOW NOTESJoin the Treasured Waitlist here. If you want to create meaningful income (or any big result) in your life, it's really helpful to learn a little bit about how your brain(s) work. Think of yourself as having two brains that want completely different things; like Siamese twins fighting for different career paths. Your animal brain wants only to seek immediate survival by seeking pleasure, avoiding pain, and doing it efficiently. Your human brain wants things like meaning, lasting happiness, and fulfillment. If you don't learn how to put your human brain in charge, your animal brain runs the show. Then you end up putting your dreams on the back burner, using lots of drugs and eating a lot of donuts. Thankfully, your human brain is equipped to override your animal brain. All you have to do is learn how to manage your thoughts and feel your emotions.

In this episode of Chasing the Insights, I talk to the inspiring author and holistic health practitioner, Juan Williams. Juan talks to us about how entrepreneurs have two brains. Juan Williams has absorbed holistic health protocols all his life. From gathering early information as a child of the 60s in the Cereal City of Battle Creek, Michigan, to the melting pot of Honolulu, Hawaii. As a journalist at nearly a dozen TV and radio news outlets, Mr Williams has been exposed to the health practices of a multitude of cultural backgrounds. He's also learned of the health practices of ancient times, as well as modern-day western medicine. What has worked for him is the holistic protocols of past generations in his family and the understanding that your blood and what you eat is critical to your general health. Juan Williams has a life education that includes attendance at Kellogg Community College, University of New Haven, Southern Connecticut State University, DePaul University, as well as an AS in mechanical engineering from the University of Hawaii (HCC) and a Bachelor in Interdisciplinary business, from Arizona State University. It's the Interdisciplinary education Mr Williams brings to this publication. This includes his personal health crisis, as well as the life challenges of others, to promote a total understanding of personal self-help health.

There's no such thing as a "normal" brain. And according to Dr. Chantel Prat, a neuroscientist at the University of Washington, that's a very good thing indeed. In her new book, "The Neuroscience of You," Chantel tells readers how their brains got to be the way they are, and today on the show, she explains how to get the most out of the brain you've got. --- Have thoughts on this episode? The key to managing your mind might just be found in this concept: you kind of have two brains. You have a primitive lower brain that is responsible for your survival, and a higher prefrontal cortex that's responsible for planning, organizing and higher levels of cognition. You need both of these parts of your brain. Your lower brain makes sure you stay alive by tending to the most important things: seeking pleasure, avoiding pain and conserving energy. The problem with this part of your brain though, is it can feel like you are at the mercy of it. It can be more emotional or fearful, and can sabotage all your plans you make with your prefrontal cortex. Your lower brain looks out for threats and danger because it means to protect you and keep you safe. In the modern age we live in, this often looks like emotional threats--being judged, ostracized, embarrassed, or any negative emotion really. Your prefrontal cortex can think bigger. IT can plan for the future and make your life better. And part of it's job is to manage the lower brain so that we don't just stay in our cave and stay safe. Managing your brain is about learning to manage the relationship between these two parts. Most of us are operating with the lower brain making a lot of our decisions, or at least sabotaging some decisions we have made. When you are managing these two parts well, you will be operating from your higher brain more of the time. The lower brain will never go away, but it can be relegated to the backseat while your reasonable, logical, more developed higher brain can run things. Between a stimulus and a response, we can insert a pause. It's in this pause that we can make a different choice. When you notice you are needing to regulate yourself, take the pause and do 4 things. 1. Become aware of your emotional state--Know what you are thinking, feeling, and doing. What brain are you operating from? 2. Acknowledge what your lower brain is trying to do--It means well. It means to protect you. It makes sense that when you feel in danger, it clicks on. 3. Assess--Are you actually in danger? Are you safe in this moment? Do you need saving and protecting? 4. Talk yourself down--Tell yourself all the things you need to soothe yourself. Calm yourself down. Support yourself. Think positive thoughts that settle you. What we are talking about here is emotional regulation. It's noticing how you are feeling and learning how to get out of an automatic reaction and get yourself to a place where you can choose how you want to respond. This is a practice that you can learn how to do, and get better at in a relatively short amount of time.
Today I go solo to talk about our two brains. I talk about reading a book by Mark Manson where he discusses our two brains... our Thinking Brain and our Feeling Brain. How all of life's decisions are a constant negotiation between these two parts of our brain. We had a bit of a delay, but my mom and I are happy to give you our most recent episode on the film, The Man with Two Brains. This is another Steve Martin film, one of our favorite comedic actors to watch, and a sultry Kathleen Turner. Give it a watch and the podcast a listen.
