A Star Wars podcast about whatever the heck we feel like talking about on a given week (it's always about Star Wars, though.) Feel free to email us at skyhopperspodcast@gmail.com! We'd love to hear from you.
The results are in: we're all in LOVE with Skeleton Crew!! Fern! Neel! Wim! KB! SM-33!!!! There is so much to love, and this is very much an episode in the classic style where we basically just gush for the duration. Well, once we get through all of the other pent-up Star Wars nonsense that you know and love us for.
Sigh. I'm not gonna make a big deal about how we're back. I respect you all too much for that. But Skeleton Crew pulled us out of our hovels long enough to talk some Star Wars! Well, that and some interesting casting rumors.
The Acolyte season 1 has come and gone! And we're left feeling conflicted! Positive overall, but still conflicted. Who's right? Who's wrong? Did the right people do the wrong things? What is Vernestra's deal? All I know is that there had BETTER be a season 2!
Two episodes inside a month! Maybe we really ARE back. At least Cole and I. Dakota is on a plane maybe? Anyway. Episodes 4-6 of The Acolyte this week! Consider us floored.
By the will of the Force, we've returned!!! It's been quite a minute, but The Acolyte is here to bring us out of hibernation. Does it live up to the hype from the last three and a half years? We think so, but there's still plenty of show left to unravel...
This is a very special episode because we're joined by the famous friend of the show KIRBY to chat about his feelings on recent Star Wars media as well as his personal relationship with the franchise. Which of course gives Cole and I plenty of room to talk about those things as well. News is light, but we're all hoping for a big 2024 from Lucasfilm!
We're back for the second week in a row to discuss the finale of season 1 of AHSOKA. Overall? Pretty dang good. But are we left with more questions than answers? Also discussed: From a Certain Point of View: Return of the Jedi! Also very good!
Well, I wasn't able to join Cole and Dakota on this episode traipsing around beyond the reaches of our known galaxy, but I'm sure they had a FANTASTIC conversation recapping episodes five and six of AHSOKA. But I guess we can all just listen and find out, can't we?
Ahsoka continues, and there are big things happening!! And then some things happening that are maybe supposed to be big, but they didn't feel that big to some of us. But we're all enjoying the show and looking forward to see what happens next! Also... this episode contains a very important lesson about not believing everything you see on the internet.
Ahsoka really does just feel like Rebels part two, and it's all the better for it! We catch up on the three episodes that have come out to date and end up feeling pretty warm and fuzzy about them, against all odds (but not really because of Ahsoka herself. Like at all). Ben is also continuing on the journey to catch up with Canon and has moved on to Black Spire hot off the heels of Rise of the Red Blade, which we loved.
We were at Gen Con two weeks ago! Which was fun, but it kept us away from the podcast. But we're back now to report on the Star Warsy things we did at Gen Con as well as to spend like 45 minutes talking about Ahsoka (both the show and the person).
We do some catching up this week: checking in with Cole re: Jedi: Survivor, talking to Dakota about Path of Vengeance a little bit, and of course... the Ahsoka trailer. There's a lot to say about that last one.
THE WAIT IS OVER! You've all been waiting with bated breath, right? I'm sure. Anyway. Eva has taken a step back from the pod, but the rest of us are here to (mostly) cover (mostly) everything we've missed! Mando S3,. Visions, THR, and Survivor! It's good to be back, friends. Thanks for sticking with us
Hi! We've been gone! And we're not sure exactly when we're going to be back. But we're talking about it!
This might be the biggest Star Wars podcast ever recorded. That's probably hyperbole, but I don't even care because it certainly felt that way. We cover not one but TWO episodes of THE MANDALORIAN leading up to the season finale and of course everything that dropped at STAR WARS CELEBRATION. Excitement ensues! This week's Article From the Archives: Solaest Fleet
We made it!! Somehow, against all odds, we made it to episode 300. And in typical Skyhoppers fashion, we get up to some nonsense: a Star Wars... draft? There are different categories and we all take turns taking things from those categories and it's FUN. Thank you all so much for sticking with us for all this time
I resent being killed by my cohosts on this episode, but I wasn't there so what was I to expect? Despite my absence, they intrepidly carry on talking about episode 5 of Season 3 of THE MANDALORIAN and the finale of Season 2 of THE BAD BATCH!
Eva is not quite caught up with The Bad Batch but we're all on the same page regarding THE MANDALORIAN! Season 3 is definitely off to a different start than seasons 1 or 2, but is that a bad thing? We discuss!
Recording OFF-SCHEDULE (which is funny because we recorded on Wednesdays for such a long time that it really just feels like we're back ON schedule) because THE BAD BATCH and THE MANDALORIAN are just that good! Crosshair! What's he up to? Where will he end up? Din Djarin! Did Bo-Katan give the Darksaber back for a reason? Will Grogu continue to do flips? Who IS Thrawn? All of this and more!
My god, there is too much happening! But that's actually a good thing. I was hoping that The Bad Batch episode might have been a little more forgettable this week so that we could spend more time with THE MANDALORIAN SEASON 3 premiere, but alas, that was not to be. So we get to talk about TWO awesome episodes of Star Wars TV this week! How incredible is that??
Eva is back! Again! We're hoping our new recording schedule means that they will be back on a regular basis from now on. But they bring some interesting thoughts about TBB S2, so we're happy they came home.
Dakota and Ben sit down with the intention of talking about Episode 9 of Season 2 of The Bad Batch, and while they get there eventually, they take a lengthy detour through The High Republic land and catch up with some discussion about Convergence by Zoraida Cordova and "new adult" novels! The plan to rescue Han Solo episode
OKAY. SO. We've had a pretty rough release schedule recently, but we've just made a deal that will keep us on a more regular and sustainable recording schedule (hopefully) forever. And we picked a good week to come back on because THE BAD BATCH is so freaking killer and none of us could wait to talk about it.
This is 1) late and 2) not even really an episode of Skyhoppers. But despite our rough release schedule (which is hopefully being addressed going forward), Cole and I were still able to get together and record Obroa-skai Walkers. And since the first half of that show tends to be about The Bad Batch, we decided to kill two mynocks with one stone. And hey, if you like our specific brand of Star Wars rambling, go check out Obroa-skai Walkers!
Ben and Dakota are joined by Austin from THE OSSUS PROJECT to talk about THE BAD BATCH season 2 episode 3: THE SOLITARY CLONE. Best episode of the series so far maybe? Probably.
They're back! Kind of! From The Ossus Project archives, this episode that was recorded many moons ago finally makes its appearance! Austin and Luke sit down to cover the comic adaptation of Han Solo At Stars' End and Knights of the Old Republic issues #0-#6.
Eva makes their triumphant return to lead us in a mini discussion of the Episode I Adventures comic from 1999 before we vault into our dissection of the first two episodes of the second season of THE BAD BATCH. We're checking back in with our friends like Hunta and Tik and of COURSE Amiga.
The Ossus Project lives! Albeit in a slightly different form. Listen in and learn more about what Austin has in store for 2023!
Ben, Cole, and Dakota are here to present the last Skyhoppers episode of 2022! After tackling a wee bit of news re: The Bad Batch and Jedi: Survivor, we dig into our favorite Star Wars things from the last year and make fun of Cole for being behind on reading.
ANDOR??? IS THE BEST STAR WARS TELEVISION SHOW TO DATE????
OBVIOUSLY we have to get into the penultimate episode of Andor this week and talk about what might be yet to come, but then we spend a weirdly long time in a good-faith discussion about the (sparse) usefulness of Jar Jar Binks as a dramatic character rather than a comedic one. Also comic shop shame.
AGAIN Ben and Cole do their best to sneak in about 40 minutes of Andor talk before Eva makes their appearance, and boy howdy is there a lot to talk about. Then the discussion towards Jedi Survivor which leads to a larger discussion about some Star Wars vidya. A typical Sunday morning in Skyhopper Land!
If this episode sounds a little different, it's because it is! I had to use the stream audio for this one due to some tech issues. What else is new? Anyway. We get into some spoiler talk before our resident Andor-and-TotJ-behinder Eva shows up, at which point we start discussing some of our favorite Canon things in honor of the tenth anniversary of the Disney acquisition! What's your favorite thing from Canon? Also HAPPY BIRTHDAY COLE
This is an... unorthodox episode of Skyhoppers. In that it isn't meant to be an episode at all. This is actually the first half of an Obroa-skai Walkers episode where Cole and Ben talk EXTENSIVELY about Episode 7 of Andor. So it's basically a Skyhoppers episode. Enjoy!
EVA LIVES. But they've moved literally across the country so they have been missing out on Andor, which is incredibly unfortunate as we all know. So we try to discuss that in as spoiler-free of a manner as possible and then spend a surprising amount of time talking about Lego Star Wars. Chalk it up to us recording on Sunday mornings now, I guess.
Hooboy. Andor is really REALLY something, huh? It doesn't take up the entirety of the discussion this evening, but it gets a vast majority of our airtime. But it's just me and Cole, so obviously Obroa-skai Walkers leaks just a little bit.
We haven't recorded since Andor has come out, so we understanadbly spend a lot of time talking about ancient Imperial advisors and AK-47s. For next week, read chapters 1-6 of DARTH BANE: PATH OF DESTRUCTION by Drew Karpyshyn! This week's Article From the Archives: Endurance-class fleet carrier
We recorded on a Sunday night to bring you our complete thoughts on the first three episodes of ANDOR. Spoiler alert: we all think it's great and can't wait for more. Also: apologies on the audio quality this week. Technical difficulties led us to this point, but I'm just glad the episode still exists! Hopefully you are too.
I am all alone this evening! We're pushing our recording back this week so that more of us have time to watch the three episodes of ANDOR, but I still felt like talking about Star Wars. So I dug out some of the books from my collection and talked about why I think they're important for half an hour! Maybe that's your thing! Maybe not! Anyway, I tried my best!
Ben and Cole go all in on the news from D23! And then end up getting stuck almost entirely on the Mando Season 3 trailer. Because who wouldn't?
Sure, sure, Andor is the new hotness, but Cassian wouldn't exist if it weren't for ROGUE ONE. And to celebrate the film's limited re-release in IMAX, we revisit it this week! What still works? What doesn't? All of this and more!
"At last we will reveal ourselves to the Jedi... At last we will have our revenge." It's time, listeners! He's back! We're covering the last four episodes of Season 4 of The Clone Wars this week, and Maul makes his triumphant return! Also Ventress does some awesome stuff and Bossk is there.
Ben and Dakota are FINALLY playing a Star Wars RPG, Cole has finished Shadow of the Sith, and Eva is back on Lego Star Wars! And then we spend too much time talking about video games while we're trying to do the outro. It's a mess.
A myriad of topics this time! Andor trailer, use of the Volume compared to REAL SETS and PRACTICAL EFFECTS, and Cal Kestis in live action??? It's less likely than you think.
Regular listeners! This is the fourth in a series of Patreon-exclusive episodes that I record with Austin of The Ossus Project where we take deep dives into various aspects of the Star Wars -verses, both uni- and meta-. Have this one on the house, and consider subbing at our Patreon for as little as $1 a month to get all future episodes as well as the three that we've done already (plus all that sweet, sweet After Hours content). Original description: In this month's Skyhoppers Saturday, Austin and Ben take a deep dive on STAR WARS ROLEPLAYING GAMES. Specifically the West End d6 system because they're sickos for that kinda thing.
The Clone Wars is back! This week we're all about the Obi-Wan undercover arc with all of our scummy friends, up to and (maybe) including Moralo Eval. Additionally, Eva takes us on a wild ride regarding Splinter of the Mind's Eye. You won't wanna miss it.
I guess this is part two from our books episode that we released last time?? Dakota is back, so we catch up on Brotherhood a little bit as well as Rogue Squadron. After some (spoiler-free) gushing about Shadow of the Sith and Matthew Stover, we have a great chat regarding the place of novels in the ever-growing Star Wars universe. For not having a topic when we sat down, this one turned out great!
Sowwy. No new episode dis week ;_; Life is hard! So have an old episode! I picked this one because I recently had a discussion with a friend about how TPM is clearly the best Prequel film. I will not be taking criticism at this time. Original description: Guess what? July is still Prequel Month here at the Skyhoppers Podcast! And we're doing something that we've never really done before: a deep dive on a specific movie, with the movie in question being The Phantom Menace. Every saga has a beginning, and we're here to talk it to death. The Skyhoppers Website! Eva is back! They join the show to give a few thoughts on the Kenobi finale before sending us into a discussion on the recent happenings in the world of Star Wars books! It's been far too long since we've checked in on that front. The Skyhoppers Website! The Kenobi finale obviously takes center stage here, but we catch up on the bit of comics news we missed, the impact of leaks on our enjoyment, and there's no way we were gonna get out of here without talking at least a LITTLE about "Corran" (Horn). This episode is SO BIG. So big that we learned how to perform necromancy to bring back our buddy ASH from ROGUE PODRON. We try to touch (at least a little bit) on all of the big news from Celebration AND try to cover Kenobi through Part IV. It's a lot. But I think we succeeded in delivering a good episode!
