Book Club: Darksaber. John and Matt have re-read the 1995 Star Wars Expanded Universe (Now “Legends”) novel “Darksaber,” and have a fresh review on the work through the lens of hindsight and fan nostalgia. They ask:- Would this hold up for adaptation in the modern era, like Thrawn?- Were creators too obsessed with “Death Star Tech” back then, too?- Are we too nostalgic about the old EU?- Would there be anything here for non-Star Wars fans to enjoy?Let these Jedi Masters show how works like Darksaber pointed the way to a successful future for Star Wars publishing…and whether that guidance is needed again.HostJohn Mills and Matthew RushingIf you're looking for the best Star Wars podcast to hear spirited discussions that embrace the fun of the Galaxy Far, Far Away with none of the fandom baggage, you found it! Skywalking Through Neverland: A Star Wars / Disney Fan Podcast
This week we're bringing you the first round of actor interviews we recorded at Rebel Scum Con 2026: The Mandalorian and Grogu stars Lateef Crowder (Din Djarin stunt performer), Matt Willig (Hogsbreth), and Jonny Coyne (Lord Janu)! Lateef Crowder takes us beneath the beskar to the Mandalorian's action scenes. He reveals that he sweated through two suits a day while filming The Mandalorian and Grogu, takes us inside the film's incredible ice-base battle, and recalls fighting Giancarlo Esposito during the unforgettable Darksaber duel in The Mandalorian S2. "Giancarlo does not play!" Next, Jonny Coyne reveals how his own name inspired the Imperial warlord Janu Coin. He recalls running up the Razor Crest ramp, filming with old-school practical effects, and shares Lord Janu's secret to surviving when so many other Star Wars villains have fallen: "You just become a rat!" Finally, Matthew Willig discusses becoming Hogsbreth, Lord Janu's towering Iktotchi enforcer. He is an intimidating 6' 8" in real life, but sweet as can be. The lifelong Star Wars fan shares what it was like transforming through horns and prosthetics, and why remaining menacing around an adorable, lifelike Grogu was nearly impossible. We also revisit his memorable role as Little Chino on Dexter. In this episode we dive into Star Wars debates about the Darksaber, prequel villains, and the trauma of the Skywalker saga before spiraling into a surprisingly deep conversation about spoilers and when it's actually okay to ruin a story. That leads to a nostalgic breakdown of classic movies like Terminator 2, the twist that changed the franchise, and why the 80s and 90s might have been the greatest era of cinema ever. From arguing about the best movie years in history to remembering the bizarre world of 90s video game tie-ins and the first R-rated movies they ever saw, the conversation swings wildly between nerd culture, movie history, and the usual tangents. We also reminisce about our favorite Star Wars experiences, ramble on with stories of the good ol' days, nerd out about current and upcoming Star Wars shows, books, and games, and talk a little bit about life. Thank you so much for supporting our channel! We love interacting with all of you! We look forward to talking with you guys every week about Star Wars, gaming, 3D printing, pop culture, movies, and everything else! Is this Book of Boba Fett episode…also the best episode of The Mandalorian??In “The Return of the Mandalorian” (Season 1, Episode 5), we get exactly zero Boba Fett—which is a surprisingly low number, given the whole clone thing, but we digress. We do, however, revel in Din Djarin's return to the small screen, Peli Moto's utter hamminess, and the deep lore of the Children of the Watch. This episode blends the comic book pulp of The Book of Boba Fett and the sleek composure of The Mandalorian for an 11/10 feast for the senses. And yeah, we cried about the N-1. (In a good way). New to Growing Up Skywalker? Come join us for non-toxic Star Wars recaps from a veteran and a new fan. We met the Marshall, we escorted the Passenger, and now we're encountering…the Heiress. (It's Bo-Katan, baybee!)In this week's episode, we tell the entire bloody tale of Mandalorian history: Tracing the Darksaber's path through Mandalorian society, tracing Bo-Katan's journey from radical to royal, and asking how Din Djarin ended up in a religious extremist splinter cell.We also dig into the (alarmingly well-organized!!) Imperial remnants who keep popping up around the galaxy.New to Growing Up Skywalker? Come join us for non-toxic Star Wars recaps from a veteran and a new fan. It is the 750th episode of TRB! Matt Smith was going to play a young Palpatine clone in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, but that idea was scrapped. Thanks to dark science, somehow Matt Smith returns to the franchise in a new villain role for Shawn Levy's Starfighter movie! We discuss that and more, including confusion over Ewan McGregor quotes about Ahsoka season 2, will he be in it? Probably, but he didn't say he was! We also run through a great round of Will of the Force, will Sabine create a new Darksaber?! Plus your submitted #AskTheResistance questions, and more! The Skywalker Lightsaber is not exactly Excalibur or the Ring of Power, offering enhanced abilities to its wielder. It is an important item in the Star Wars universe, but it's not clear exactly how. Nick and Chris discuss how significant Anakin's lightsaber is to the Star Wars universe. They also follow the chains of custody of the Millennium Falcon and the Darksaber, both passing between more owners than you may expect!

Callbacks to Rebels and The Clone Wars abound in The Mandalorian's season 1 finale, but in the end, this show has always known what it's really about. In our recap of “Redemption” (The Mandalorian Season 1, Chapter 8), we wrestle with questions of honor, if it matters, and why it's so important to try. We also cover the chain of ownership of darksaber (and question why Lando doesn't have it??), the importance of the Child, and the role of Moff Gideon in the somehow still-functioning Empire (???).Buckle up—this could be a real adventure! Sabine confronts her biological family and everything gets real messy! In this episode of Dark Side Divas we discuss the Star Wars Rebels episode "Legacy of Mandalore" (s3e16). For three and a half seasons, Rebels has been teasing us Sabine backstory. Finally, this week, we get the details behind that backstory... at least most of them. And hey, they're pretty good! Sure would've been great if they'd gotten them to us sooner, so that we could've, you know, thought about how the events of the show intersected her history. Still, a much needed showcase for Sabine, and hopefully a good sign of things to come. Oh. And Zeb has some droid hijinks. Support the show by going to Patreon.com/civilized! After a heart warming and funny Star Wars Rebels episode we should have known we would experience a story that would personally attack us. In this episode of Dark Side Divas we discuss the Star Wars Rebels episode "Trials of the Darsaber" (s3e15). Sabine must comfort some truths about her family while learning how to wield a weapon that's heavy on history and symbolism. Meanwhile Kanan learns how to be a better teacher for a Mandalorian. It has been nearly 5 months since we last visited the crew of the Ghost, but finally, we are back. Today, we return to Geonosis... which is.... uhhhhh.... mysteriously empty? Shouldn't there be like... millions of giant bugs here? Instead, it looks like there's only one... itty bitty Geonosian and maybe the most cartoonishly wicked version of Saw Gerrera that we've seen yet. Oh well. “Trials of the Darksaber” (Rebels S3, Ep. 15) is, quite simply, one of the tightest-scripted, haunting, and beautiful episodes of Rebels so far. And “Warhead” (Ep. 14) is a delightful buddy cop special feat. Zeb and AP-5. This week, we dive deep into the lore of lightsabers and darksabers. We talk about what it means to wield the Force, rather than just be a part of its flow, and talk about Sabine's inner demons. And Sam crowns Sabine and Kanan's training duel as one of the Top 5 Lightsaber Duels, Ever. In the meantime, Thrawn has cut his list of planets the Rebels may be inhabiting down to 94… Want even more Growing Up Skywalker? So here's one of my favourite Clone Wars arcs that wasn't ever made into the show, however, it does have an epic series of comic runs. After The Clone Wars season 5, Darth Maul is captured by Darth Sidious, the rightful heir to the Darksaber after defeating Maul. Maul is interrogated by Count Dooku and later fights General Grievous per Dooku and Sidious' design. I have covered every issue before several years ago, however, I went back and redid the entire thing for issue 1 and I think i'll redo the whole issue, with better voice acting, better sound fx, better editing. I hope you enjoy this one and stay tuned for the full compilation of Son of Dathomir. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
We got conflicting stories about Sabine's initial Jedi training in the "Ahsoka" series, but if what the good guys said was true, then Sabine may have been training for the express purpose of taking the Darksaber away from Moff Gideon. In the latest episode of the Mandalorian, ep 6, we see Bo Katan is now the rightful owner of the DarkSaber. as Din claims since he lost to cyborg dude on Mandalore, and it lost to Bo, making Bo the rightful owner of the DarkSaber. Why didn't Din just say this to her 4 episodes or so ago? Why have her fight Axe Woves when he could have just told her that she's the rightful owner, as she walks up to them and ignites the blade, boom, done. Now she can unite everyone under her rule. Thank you for listening to today's podcast. I hope you have a great day, and I'll see you in the next one! May the force be with you, ALWAYS!
