We're still not done with Libra – or Libra is not done with us! In Episode 28, DDSWTNP pick up threads left hanging after our three-part treatment of DeLillo's JFK novel. While tackling a wide variety of subjects, this episode homes in on Anthony DeCurtis's 1988 interview with DeLillo for Rolling Stone (and later re-published in expanded form), “An Outsider in This Society.” We're led to discuss DeLillo's canny interview articulations in general, his method of writing by day and reading more history by night, and his reply to the suggestion that on the basis of Libra some readers regarded him as “a member of the paranoid left”: “I don't have a program.” Along the way we also draw in vivid evidence of how DeLillo subtly reworked the voice of Marguerite Oswald from testimony in the Warren Report, what fellow Oswald novelist Norman Mailer had to say about Libra, and all that is illuminated by an exchange of letters to the New York Times between DeLillo and one of the Warren Report investigators. We also try here to understand as fully as possible the nuances of DeLillo's ideas about historical fiction that emerge in the incredible DeCurtis interview: what DeLillo means when he says Libra is “a piece of work which is obviously fiction,” touts novels' ability to “redeem” readers' “despair,” and makes the powerful claim that “fiction rescues history from its confusions.” We quote enough that listeners will get plenty of insight even without having read the DeCurtis interview in full, and we look forward to applying many of the lessons about history learned here to future works like Underworld. “Some stories never end,” as DeLillo writes to begin “Assassination Aura,” and that's true of this episode's cover image, which uses a National Enquirer cover from March 2025 about new releases of JFK files. Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science James Lawless is strongly encouraging students and their families to visit susi.ie to see if they're eligible for grant support because of expanded eligibility criteria. Undergraduate students whose household's reckonable income is under €115,000 may be eligible for financial support. Students do not need to have their Leaving Cert results or to have accepted a course to apply. Minister Lawless said: " I am very aware of the costs for students and families when attending further and higher education. That is why my department expanded eligibility for grants by increasing income thresholds to provide greater support. Undergraduate students whose household's reckonable income is under €115,000 may now be eligible for financial support". "These improvements are long-term sustainable improvements which mark a significant step towards easing the financial burden on further and higher education students," he added. Budget 2025 provided substantial improvements to the Student Grant Scheme, including: An increase to the income threshold for the special rate of grant from €26,200 to €27,400 in line with increases in social welfare rates. An increase to all other maintenance and student contribution grant thresholds by at least 15%. An increase to the income deduction for student earnings outside of term time from €7,925 to €8,424, effective for the 2025/26 academic year. An expansion of the eligibility criteria to allow students who have certain immigration permissions to apply for grants. An Increase to the Postgraduate Fee Contribution threshold to €64,315. Also, the Part-Time Fee Scheme for Specified Undergraduate Courses 2025 will see over 100 courses eligible, an increase from 62. A full list of the courses is available on www.susi.ie, and the income threshold to avail of support has also increased to €64,315. Minister Lawless said: "All of these improved supports take effect from September this year. I would strongly urge students and parents to visit the SUSI website on www.susi.ie for further information and to find out if they are eligible for a grant." Students who are planning to attend further or higher education in the 2025/26 academic year can access www.susi.ie to check eligibility and/or make an application for grant support. John Miniotis, President and CEO of AbraSilver Resource Corp (TSX: ABRA) (OTCQX: ABBRF), joined us to review the new expanded Mineral Resource Estimate, development work building towards the Definitive Feasibility Study, and the ongoing 20,000 meter Phase 5 drill program at their wholly-owned Diablillos property in Salta Province, Argentina.    The updated MRE now totals 104 million tonnes ("Mt") of ore, containing approximately 199 million ounces ("Moz") of silver and 1.72 Moz of gold (350 Moz silver-equivalent "AgEq") in the Measured & Indicated ("M&I") category. This total includes a maiden heap leach Mineral Resource estimate and reflects significant increases across five deposits (Oculto, JAC, Fantasma, Laderas and Sombra) located at Diablillos.   Key Highlights of the Updated MRE (Combined Tank and Heap Leach):   Total M&I Mineral Resources (tank and heap leach) now stand at 104 Mt grading 59 g/t Ag and 0.51 g/t Au, containing 199 Moz Ag and 1.72 Moz Au (350 Moz AgEq). Tank leach Mineral Resource estimate totals 73 Mt grading 79 g/t Ag and 0.66 g/t Au, containing 186 Moz Ag and 1.55 Moz Au (327 Moz AgEq). Maiden heap leach MRE adds 31 Mt grading 13 g/t Ag and 0.16 g/t Au, containing 13 Moz Ag and 162 koz Au (23 Moz AgEq). Based on lower-grade material contained with the constraining Whittle open pit, previously classified as waste, now recognized as potentially recoverable though a low-cost processing route.   Key Changes Compared to Prior MRE (Tank Leach Only):   25% increase in contained silver in M&I Mineral Resources to 186 Moz Ag from 148 Moz Ag. 14% increase in contained gold in M&I Mineral Resources to 1.55 Moz Au from 1.36Moz Au. 27% increase in M&I silver-equivalent ounces to 327 Moz AgEq from 258 Moz AgEq.   With three drill rigs now active across the broader Diablillos land package, and the potential to add a fourth rig in the future, the Company is entering another exciting new phase of exploration growth. Effective security management has never been simple and the expanded threat landscape enhanced by AI has only widened the gap between defenders and attackers. Scott Crawford and Greg Zwakman return to discuss the managed security services market with host Eric Hanselman. Security services have been an option for enterprises since the earliest days of IT, but the need for more depth and breadth in security operations has changed market dynamics and the enterprise security calculus. Part of this shift is driven by the scope and scale of security operations. Expanded attack surfaces with more devices, more SaaS applications and hybrid infrastructure can be all the more difficult to secure. Integrated security operations patterns, like Managed Detection and Response (MDR) can provide more comprehensive services and ones that are targeted at delivering improved security outcomes, rather than just operational support. Changing security requirements are driving M&A activity, as well.
