There is a lot of talk about DSA candidates, as if left of crazy is something new. There is not. All Democrats have really done is create a label for the most visible faction of their party. They call them DSA. They call them democratic socialists. They call them progressives. They call them the activist wing. But the ideas did not suddenly arrive with the label. The question is not whether DSA is different from Democrats. The question is how different DSA is from Democrats. For years, Democratic politicians have defended or embraced positions involving abolishing ICE, defunding or radically restructuring police departments, dramatically increasing taxes, expanding government income guarantees, decriminalization, lax enforcement, open-border policies and an ever-expanding welfare state. I then served in a Clinical Psych II role at Eastern State Hospital in Medical Lake, Washington, a forensic setting where I conducted psychological evaluations of individuals charged with the most serious criminal offenses. Sixteen months assessing human behavior at its most extreme taught me how to cut through defenses, identify what's really driving someone's decisions, and see what they can't see in themselves.

From the earliest federal investigation of Jeffrey Epstein, the scope appeared strikingly narrow compared with the breadth of the conduct surrounding him. Investigators had evidence pointing beyond Epstein himself: recruiters who helped bring young women and girls into his orbit, employees who facilitated access to his properties, financial institutions that processed enormous sums of money, pilots who transported Epstein and his associates, and a network of powerful people who repeatedly appeared around him. Yet the federal response repeatedly centered on Epstein as an individual offender rather than treating the operation surrounding him as a potentially sprawling criminal enterprise. The extraordinarily broad non-prosecution agreement reached in Florida reinforced that approach by extending protection to unnamed potential co-conspirators instead of using those individuals as investigative pressure points. When Epstein was arrested again in 2019, prosecutors charged him with sex trafficking conspiracy and sex trafficking, but his death brought the criminal case against him to an abrupt end. Ghislaine Maxwell was later prosecuted and convicted, but the broader question remained: why had a network that operated across multiple jurisdictions for years produced so few federal prosecutions? Taken together, the history created the appearance of an investigation designed to establish responsibility for specific defendants rather than systematically identify every facilitator, recruiter, financial enabler, participant, and potential co-conspirator connected to Epstein's operation.The DOJ also had an extensive collection of investigative and prosecutorial tools available that could have supported a much broader inquiry. Federal authorities could pursue conspiracy charges, money-laundering statutes, financial-record subpoenas, grand-jury testimony, immunity agreements, cooperation deals, immigration and visa investigations, tax inquiries, asset-forfeiture proceedings, obstruction cases, and, where the evidence satisfied the statutory requirements, potentially racketeering theories aimed at an ongoing enterprise rather than isolated crimes. Following Epstein's money alone could have provided investigators with a roadmap through banks, corporations, trusts, shell entities, property transactions, payments to associates, and transfers involving victims or recruiters. Aggressively flipping lower-level participants could likewise have helped prosecutors work upward through the organization instead of stopping with its most recognizable figures. None of that automatically would have produced charges against every person associated with Epstein, because association itself was not evidence of criminal conduct, but the striking issue was how rarely the government's enormous investigative arsenal appeared to be deployed publicly toward dismantling the entire ecosystem that allowed Epstein's abuse to continue. The extraordinarily broad non-prosecution agreement reached in Florida reinforced that approach by extending protection to unnamed potential co-conspirators instead of using those individuals as investigative pressure points. When Epstein was arrested again in 2019, prosecutors charged him with sex trafficking conspiracy and sex trafficking, but his death brought the criminal case against him to an abrupt end. Ghislaine Maxwell was later prosecuted and convicted, but the broader question remained: why had a network that operated across multiple jurisdictions for years produced so few federal prosecutions? Taken together, the history created the appearance of an investigation designed to establish responsibility for specific defendants rather than systematically identify every facilitator, recruiter, financial enabler, participant, and potential co-conspirator connected to Epstein's operation.The DOJ also had an extensive collection of investigative and prosecutorial tools available that could have supported a much broader inquiry. Federal authorities could pursue conspiracy charges, money-laundering statutes, financial-record subpoenas, grand-jury testimony, immunity agreements, cooperation deals, immigration and visa investigations, tax inquiries, asset-forfeiture proceedings, obstruction cases, and, where the evidence satisfied the statutory requirements, potentially racketeering theories aimed at an ongoing enterprise rather than isolated crimes. Following Epstein's money alone could have provided investigators with a roadmap through banks, corporations, trusts, shell entities, property transactions, payments to associates, and transfers involving victims or recruiters. Aggressively flipping lower-level participants could likewise have helped prosecutors work upward through the organization instead of stopping with its most recognizable figures. None of that automatically would have produced charges against every person associated with Epstein, because association itself was not evidence of criminal conduct, but the striking issue was how rarely the government's enormous investigative arsenal appeared to be deployed publicly toward dismantling the entire ecosystem that allowed Epstein's abuse to continue. Tracy Bech, founder and author of 60 Minute CFO, explains how business owners, managers, salespeople, and field professionals can develop financial fluency without becoming accountants.  Turn Financial Data into a Meaningful Scorecard  Tracy teaches finance through stories and relationships rather than isolated numbers. Revenue alone does not reveal whether a company is financially healthy. Leaders need ratios that show how efficiently the company earns money, whether it can meet its obligations, and how prepared it is to withstand adversity.  Her three foundational measures are gross profit margin, liquidity, and safety. Gross profit margin shows what remains after the cost of producing a product or delivering a service. If that margin is too low, the company may not have enough money to cover operating expenses and generate a net profit.  Liquidity compares current assets with current liabilities, revealing the company's ability to pay its bills. Safety compares debt with equity and helps leaders understand the company's financial resilience and capacity to obtain financing when needed.  Move From Historical Reports to Forward Planning  Tax preparation and year-end reports explain what already happened. However, financial fluency allows leaders to use that history to forecast what should happen next.  Tracy outlines three stages: learn the key ratios, understand the difference between cash and profit, and use historical results to develop forecasts. During the Personal Rule, Charles expanded the "Ship Money" tax to inland counties, leading to a landmark legal battle over the King's right to declare emergencies without Parliament. After failing to force a new prayer book on Scotland, Charles was compelled to recall Parliament, which then executed his minister Strafford.
