Rituals matter and so Angie shares with us what she did on her summer vacation this year. It's the way we begin every season opener on this PauseCast, and always reminds me of my first days at school when I was a kid. You heard about my summer last week, so I hope you don't mind me dedicating this space to Angie's experience.Angie and her husband Peter, and their two golden retrievers, went on a 7,000 mile (11,265 kilometres) road trip, returning to places that feel like home, seeing old friends and making new ones along the way. They did a big loop from Arizona to the east coast of the US, north to Almonte, Canada where they lived for a number of years, then back down to Iowa and back home to Arizona. They travelled through some of the reddest states in the US union, only to find that people are people, regardless of political stripe. Kindness and generosity met them at every turn, and much BBQ was had. It was a good trip, and a reminder to slow down, let go of expectations, be present to each other and to the road, and be open to love. This was a good meander, and we'll have more on this PauseCast. I'm always keen to hear from you, so please share your thoughts at meanderingswithtrudy@gmail.com. I read everything you send.I hope you enjoy this episode. Hour 1 of John and Lance with John Granato and Lance Zierlein! Do we even want the Astros to make it to the playoffs at this rate? How would you grade the Texans offseason based off 3 games? Can Reed Sheppard be a reliable starting point guard without Fred VanVleet this season? Should the Astros have made more offseason trades?
Wine Road: The Wine, When, and Where of Northern Sonoma County.
The podcast begins with hosts Marcy Gordon and Beth Costa introducing the show and expressing gratitude to their sponsor, Ron Rubin, for supporting the podcast. They also thank River Road Family Vineyards and Winery for their financial backing, which allows them to keep sharing stories and sipping wine. Just like in elementary school...we talk about what we did on our summer vacation :-) The episode, number 236, focuses on recapping their summer adventures in Sonoma County and beyond. Richard Ross, their engineer, kicks things off by sharing his first-ever road trip in an electric vehicle through the Eastern Sierras. He recounts stops at South Lake Tahoe, Bridgeport, Bodie ghost town, Mono Lake, and Mammoth Mountain, highlighting the beauty of the snow-covered Sierras and the challenges of finding EV chargers in remote areas. Along the way, he enjoyed local wines, quirky dining experiences, and even visited the Western Film Museum in Lone Pine. Beth shares her summer highlights, including frequent trips to Eureka to visit family, where she enjoyed the zoo, a stunning dahlia garden, and local wine. Marcy on the other hand, attended major events like Taste of Sonoma, the Sonoma County Fair (featuring the chaotic and hilarious Corgi races), and the Gravenstein Apple Fair in Sebastopol, which showcased local apples, cider, and artisan goods. She describes the fair's expanded layout, bustling crowds, and delicious treats like apple fritters. Marcy reflects on her summer filled with wine-related activities, including the Big West Wine Fest, which focused on natural wines, and the Sonoma County Fair's grape stomp. She also enjoyed beach picnics, hiking at Jenner Headlands, and participating in a summer reading program, where she read 15 books. The hosts also discuss their efforts to deliver updated Wine Road maps to local wineries, with Beth noting the beauty of driving through Sonoma County's wine regions. They highlight Guerneville's Dawn Ranch as a charming lodging option surrounded by redwoods, perfect for weddings or family reunions. Marcy shares her experience taking a pickling class in Sebastopol, adding to her growing list of homemaking skills, and encourages listeners to explore similar workshops. The episode wraps up with a shoutout to Ron Rubin for sponsoring another year of the podcast, ensuring they can continue sharing their love for Sonoma County wine and culture. The hosts encourage listeners to visit the region, sip Sonoma wines, and enjoy all the unique experiences the area has to offer. This week, we returned from summer break with an epic prank on Howard Stern's show (that fooled more people than we expected) and I recapped my summer break including some house guests and a Metallica show in the Hamptons. Plus, John rated my performance on the "Love Island USA" reunion (second behind the chicken tenders at his watch party). Then, my contact lens saga continues and I revealed my weight loss secret.Later, I showed the kids our new home, started drama with the W Hotel in Hoboken, and went on an epic journey to replace my lost passport! For more interviews and behind-the-scenes tea, tune in to Andy Cohen Live weekdays on Radio Andy by subscribing to SiriusXM. Summer, 1984—at the height of the Satanic Panic. Ricky is a motor-mouthed teen who wants proof the Devil is listening. In a moonlit patch of woods, a dare turns into a ritual and a killing. What follows is darker: Ricky props the body in a lawn chair with sunglasses, invites classmates to look, and turns terror into spectacle—boombox hissing, insects buzzing, and bravado curdling into dread as word spreads and the cops close in.This isn't a true-crime retelling; it's a brutal horror story steeped in Acid King folklore—teen cult swagger, drugs, and a swaggering kid convinced he's owed infernal fame. The consequences arrive in handcuffs and, at the end, a quiet, awful moment alone in a jail cell. Listener discretion advised for graphic violence, drug use, and suicide. What Ricky Did on his Summer Vacation by Dan Wilder

Our August episode of Purely Academic is one of our busiest recordings to date, as Sean and Jonathan break down how they spent their summer vacations, and talk about the start of the new school year. Sean tells us about some of the legal insanity affecting education in Texas, while Jonathan explains why he created a bunch of feature-length anime fan edits for various classes he's teaching this semester. We discuss a bunch of video games both old and new, from Donkey Kong Bananza and Mafia: The Old Country, to Sean falling down the Dark Souls rabbit hole again and Jonathan finding himself many hours into a new playthrough of the original Pokémon Blue. Jonathan also talks about binging the entire run of Showtime's Dexter, and finally, Sean is up for The Monthly Ten, counting down the Top 10 podcast topics he would most dread doing.
