Join the conversation as they discuss emotional baggage, blended families, love, sex, relationships, and life. Lena and Rob are here to help you with your baggage—life is too short to be weighed down by unchecked baggage. Listen today as they discuss the importance of dating. In a long term relationship, having regular date nights is important. It ensures partners remain connected and prevents a relationship from getting stale. Rob shares three lesser known reasons why date night is so important. First, you will be happier when you and your partner are prioritizing each other. Also, your sex life will be better and the woman will have more social satisfaction. Then, they give examples of various possible date ideas. Instead of talking about work or the kids, it's best to focus the discussion around you as individuals and your relationship. Free date night ideas include staying home and watching a movie together, cooking dinner, going for a walk or drive or having a midnight picnic. For affordable date nights, you and your spouse could go to a restaurant and dress up a bit, go to a movie dinner, try axe throwing or escape rooms, go to a comedy club or for a little road trip. Then, they list some ideas for more expensive and extravagant date night ideas for special occasions. You could go to a hotel for a night, go to a fancy restaurant and dress up, take a vacation, take a helicopter ride or book an entire movie theater for yourselves. You have to spend time with your partner or your relationship will suffer. Date night is so necessary as a way of making the time and effort to be alone together. They also reveal that Wednesday is the most popular date night. Thanks for listening! Links: For relationship advice, or to tell us how great we are, email us at uncheckedaf@gmail.com. Podcast: Unchecked Baggage Episode: 5 Relationship Insecurities Tune in to this episode of the Unchecked Baggage podcast, a podcast all about relationship advice with hosts Lena and Rob. They chat about emotional baggage, blended families, love, sex, relationships, and life. Life is too short to be weighed down by unchecked baggage! Today's episode is all about relationship insecurities and comes from a listener's email question—how do you deal with insecurities in a relationship that develop over time in a healthy way? Lena and Rob dive into the details surrounding this massive topic and are here to help you with your baggage. What is an insecurity? Listen to the findings of studies done regarding the possible connections between posting on social media and relationship insecurities. In an article from Brides.com, Lena shares the findings of how to tell if you're insecure in a relationship, even if there is nothing significant going on that would cause it. Millennial attachment based therapist, Alysha Jeney, shares about the impact of things that have happened to you in the past and the five signs to look for to tell if you are insecure. Hear about difficulty in trusting, struggling with intimacy, becoming easily panicked about your partner leaving or rejecting you, feeling easily attacked, and not accepting your authentic self. She shares about solutions in journaling your thoughts, considering whether you and your partner experience love in same way, tracing thoughts back to roots and working to develop self-soothing talk, thinking more rationally and less emotionally, and working on being your authentic self through outlets such as books, counseling, religion, and so on. While most relationship insecurities come from personal insecurities, it is important to learn what to do about these insecurities once you identify them. Insecurities can result in one having trouble forming long lasting relationships. Causes prove to be numerous, including things like traumatic events, crisis, loss, unpredictable environments, childhood history, and many more. They discuss how the effects of insecurities can also cause issues like low self-esteem, body image issues, lack of direction, feeling overlooked, interpreting others' behaviors incorrectly, career struggles, and distancing one's self socially. What can you do about these? First, you must learn to identify the cause! They take a look at another article that identifies 12 steps to overcoming self-doubt. Consider the following steps: stop saying you're insecure, doubt your doubts, name your critic, stop overthinking, ask for help, cut off comparisons, cultivate confidence, open up, improve self-talk, surround self with positivity, and embrace insecurities as part of being human. Who do you surround yourself with most and what do they talk about? As the conversation draws to a close, Lena and Rob open up to share their own personal struggles with insecurities and how they work on them. Rob's old emotional scars with friends get ripped open and make it difficult for vulnerability. Listen to his past relationships with friends, the hardships he has faced, and why completely opening up still proves challenging. Lena follows up with sharing about her insecurities with weight, her level of education, and finances. What if you have insecurities in your relationship that are justified or valid? Trust is the bottom line, but it is important to remember that it is not static. If it's worth it, do whatever it takes to make it work! Don't forget to leave a review and email in with a question, topic idea, or commentary on the show to be submitted to win a drawing! Welcome to Unchecked Baggage, a podcast with hosts Lena and Rob, all about relationship advice. Join the conversation as they discuss emotional baggage, blended families, love, sex, relationships, and life. Lena and Rob are here to help you with your baggage—life is too short to be weighed down by unchecked baggage. Listen today as they discuss sexual compatibility. While there's no official definition for the term, sexual compatibility can be considered the extent to which a couple perceives and shares sexual beliefs, preferences, desires and needs with their partner. According to Lena, it's a difficult thing to pin down. But whether your relationship has it or not, it should be quite obvious. Many people still feel shame in regards to discussing their sexual desires, which results in their needs not being met by a partner. When you first meet someone new, hormones are so high that it can be difficult to gauge sexual compatibility. Rob offers some questions you could ask to determine your new partner's regular sex drive. So, can sexual compatibility be fixed? To a certain degree, Lena believes it can be. First, you have to get to the bottom of why someone has lost interest. With effective communication, this can typically be addressed. There are instances of unfixable sexual incompatibility, such as if a couple is no longer attracted to each other or are no longer committed to the relationship. A sexless marriage refers to couples who have sex less than 10 times in a year, or only on special occasions. Rob gives a few tips of how to spice up a sex life in a rut, such as visiting a sex shop together, try a sex therapist, watch pornography or role playing. If none of these tips work, maybe it's time to reexamine your relationship. Nobody deserves to be in a relationship they aren't totally happy in, and being sexually satisfied is a big part of this. Unchecked Baggage is a brand new podcast all about relationship advice. The episodes are aimed at talking about emotional baggage, love, sex, and relationships. The hosts, Lena and Rob, believe that life is too short to be weighed down by unchecked baggage and seek to help listeners let go of past baggage to have better relationships with others. They have been married seven years, but have both brought some emotional baggage from past relationships. Listen as they share about this baggage and what has helped them overcome it. Today's episode is all about the importance of having couple friends within a relationship. Rob discusses the excitement in seeing your spouse interact excitedly with others face to face. Observing how other couples interact can help you gauge your own relationship dynamics. He points out the three benefits of having overlapping couple friends: that it increases your attraction to each other, creates a support system and protects your relationship. Then, they discuss whether having single friends leads to distrust. In Lena's experience, most of her single friends of the opposite sex have been in her life before her relationship. It's important to set boundaries and have a clear understanding of what your spouse is comfortable with. Most importantly, you must have respect for your partner so they feel at ease and can easily voice their feelings on the subject. It is the responsibility as the person with the single friend of the opposite sex to respect your partner's comfort level and to speak positively about your partner with others. With all of this being said, they move on to address the question: How can you make couple friends? According to Lena's research, there are three different types of couples. Seekers are people who really want to meet other couples. Keepers are happy with the friends they have, but are still sometimes open to meeting new people. Finally, nesters are people who are happy with a small circle and uninterested in making new friends. A few places to find friends are at work, in facebook and community groups, on apps and through your kid's schools. Usually, it's better to choose engaging activities to do with new friends rather than something as intimate as dinner. Finally, they point out a few things to look out for when making new friends. It's perfectly normal not to get along with everyone you meet, and gauging how you feel after spending time with others is a good way to determine if the friendship is beneficial to your relationship. Finding friends who are well suited for your relationship and lifestyle takes work, but is worth it. First, Lena and Rob define emotional baggage as negative unprocessed emotions from past experiences. They point out three types of baggage that can threaten relationships. The first is through family of origin, which can be baggage brought from parents, siblings, or another family member. A good way to address this kind of baggage is through forgiving them, but to also removing yourself from them. Second is depression baggage and Rob shares about his own journey with this. A good way to combat depression is through doing things you enjoy and self care. The last kind of baggage they discuss is the X-factor baggage where you are hung up on a x boyfriend/girlfriend. Rob and Lena talk about how to approach a girlfriend/boyfriend who is holding this baggage. Next, Lena and Rob talk about sneaky types of baggage which must be addressed in order to have a healthy relationship. First is guilt, which is a feeling you have when you think you've done something wrong. They encourage listeners with this baggage to learn from past mistakes rather than letting them control you. Second is regret, which is living in the past. Lena encourages listeners with this baggage to practice learning from the past while focusing on the present. Next is the baggage of fear of the unknown or from past experiences. This can be addressed through exposing yourself to what you are afraid of alongside a good support system. Fourth is inner criticism of talking badly to yourself. Rob and Lena both encourage this to be addressed by learning to silence your inner critic and practicing self care. Lastly is PTSD, which can be addressed through therapy with a professional. Lastly, Rob and Lena focus on baggage that comes from past or present toxic relationships. They both share some of the baggage they have brought from past relationships and how it has affected their own current relationship. There are several steps that can be taken to address baggage from toxic relationships. The first is purging all physical reminders of the relationship. Secondly is the ability and willingness to open up about the past hurt when a new partner comes along. Lastly is to spend time in self care through journaling, therapy, yoga, or any other activity you enjoy. In conclusion, Rob and Lena encourage listeners to take the time to address and process past baggage which will lead to much healthier preset relationships.
