Even when there's a lot going on in our lives, it's important to pause and honor important milestones. Today's SHE Talk does just this. It's a deep, honest interview that I recorded in honor of a few big anniversaries. First, the podcast is 5! I started it in 2015 with a special interview series to mark the birth of my second book. And, yes, the second milestone is that five years ago this Tuesday, to be exact, The Book of SHE: Your Heroine's Journey into the Heart of Feminine Power was published. The biggest thing I want to honor today – which is the real focus of today's episode – is that five years ago my own heroine's journey took a...how should I say....unfathomable (!) direction. I've since been warned: "Be careful what you write a book about! You'll need to embody those teachings at the deepest level." I'll leave it at that because today's talk (in which my good friend Emma Teitel turns the tables and interviews me) goes into this in-depth. We cover a whole range of things from: - How we’re structuring our days at this point in the pandemic - Specific things that are inspiring us and helping us through - The nascent steps we’re taking on our anti-racism journeys - My experience working in California prisons last year - The framework of a "Midlife Transition" that I find helpful - And, above all, and key insights from the past 5 years of my heroine’s journey If you've been through a challenging stretch in your life (and who hasn't!), or are going through one now, I know you'll feel some relief in hearing this. Enjoy, go gently, and I'm grateful to be on this journey with you. According to Deuteronomy 30:19 God said he has given us a choice between "Life and Death" ...."blessings and cursings"....therefore, CHOOSE LIFE so that you and your seed (children) may live. The choice is clear, and that choice is always life @PneuPneuma Pro Life choice In our very first episode we introduced the podcast to the world, sharing some of the vision and passion behind the podcast, and then we began to touch on the very sticky subject of abortion in that show entitled "About Abortion Part 1". We delved into some of the reasons we support Life. In this second episode of our "About Abortion" series, we take the subject a little bit deeper and discuss in more depth why abortion is not in God's plan no matter what. We dig a little bit into one's spiritual reasons for thinking it is okay. Be sure to check out the first episode here About Abortion Pt 1

Pleasure can be complicated, hunger can feel like a betrayal, but our bodies were built for pleasure and it's time for you to reconnect with what it means to feel good, to prioritize what brings you delight and joy, and to unpack the old stories that keep you stuck in shame and guilt. My new online course, Power in Pleasure: Reconnecting with Your Hunger, Desire, and Joy, will start enrolling soon, so join the notification list now and get first dibs on the course. Donna Zuckerberg on pickup artistry, Red Pill, and the classics The last Harvard University Press book I had a chance to review for the show was "About Abortion" by Carol Sanger, which was such a spectacular experience. So, I was incredibly excited when HUP sent me a copy of Donna Zuckerberg's new book, "Not All Dead White Men." Not only do we take a critical look at pickup artistry, Red Pill communities, and how many members of these communities have co-opted the classics to serve their patriarchal vision, but we also talk about the ways that PUAs dehumanize women, approach dating, and treat boundaries and consent as optional. It's fascinating, important, and eye-opening, to say the least. (Also, we really had a blast recording the Patreon bonus - it might be even better than the full episode!) Grab your copy of "Not All Dead White Men" at Harvard University Press or on Amazon. It's such a thought-provoking read. Plus, Patreon supporters - If you support the show at the $3 level and above, Donna and I talk about negging, seduction techniques, and pickup artistry moving online. What question might a PUA lead with on an app like Tinder and why does it get under Donna's skin so much? Why is name calling and escalating to rage and threats part of the pleasure? Delight in it with us and support the show at patreon.com/sgrpodcast Follow Sex Gets Real on Twitter and Facebook. It's true. Oh! And Dawn is on Instagram. About Donna Zuckerberg: Donna Zuckerberg is a Silicon Valley–based classicist who received her doctoral training at Princeton University. Last month, Lindy West joined Papercuts for an event for the paperback release of SHRILL, her book of essays about the making of a funny feminist, coming of age in a culture that’s hostile to women, especially fat women. It was wonderful to have Lindy join us with 450 fans at the First Church JP in April. But before her event, Lindy discussed reproductive rights and her project Shout Your Abortion with Carol Sanger, author of ABOUT ABORTION. Carol Sanger is the Barbara Aronstein Black Professor of Law at Columbia Law School, and her book Abort Abortion takes readers on an insightful, original, and eye-opening guided tour of the practices, culture, and legislation behind terminating pregnancy in twenty-first century America. Lindy West is a pop culture critics and comedian and a weekly columnist at the guardian. SHRILL is a new York times bestseller and was named a Best Book of the Year by NPR, Esquire, the LA Times, and Newsweek.  Copies of SHRILL and ABOUT ABORTION are for sale in-store at Papercuts J.P. at 5 Green Street in Boston, or online at papercutsjp.com. Thanks for supporting your local independent bookstore.
