Today we're sharing our next episode in our series "Lessons In" with Veronica Grant. Veronica Grant is a Love + Life Coach, host of the popular Love Life Connection podcast, and believed deep work is the only way to deep love. She helps successful women who feel like they have it all except love, find it. Veronica Grant joins us to share a lesson she’s learned about working with our inner child to transform our relationship patterns. Through healing her relationship with her body and discovering her own innate worthiness, Veronica embarked on a journey back to herself through uncovering and healing her limiting beliefs, and ultimately connecting with her inner child. As Veronica shares, when we work with our inner child we’re able to connect the dots between a core childhood wound we experienced with our dating and relationship patterns, and when we heal that wound we no longer attract partners from that place. Veronica’s reflections, honesty, and vulnerability will leave you feeling inspired, and remind you that to find the deep love that we’re craving, we have to be willing to do the deep inner work. Nicole Walker’s Interview Commentary I really enjoyed this interview with Veronica and I hope you did as well. I agree with Veronica’s advice to give ourselves credit for the work we put in, especially when we do not reach the goals we desire. The end result should not minimize the effort put forth. The journey is just as important as the destination, and can teach us many lessons if we take the time to process things accordingly. Leaders do not know everything, and we will not always hit the mark we set out to hit; however, we do deserve credit for our strides. A quote by Anne Sullivan reads, “Keep on beginning and failing. Each time you fail, start all over again, and you will grow stronger until you have accomplished a purpose – not the one you began with, perhaps, but one you’ll be glad to remember.” I admire Veronica’s transparency in admitting a previous flaw in her decision making as a leader. Making one sided decisions can be damaging and should be avoided at all costs. To make informed decisions and act justly, it is essential to get all the data before taking action. As Veronica suggested, we must collect and consider all the facts and avoid making hasty decisions, to be a successful leader. Veronica has shown that leaders admit when they are wrong and figure out a solution to not repeat the same mistakes. A quote by Amine Ayad reads, “Be humble to see your mistakes, courageous to admit them, and wise enough to correct them”. I can relate to Veronica’s background in education as I have the same. Educators play an immensely important role in this would, as our service helps to change lives. In addition to providing education, educators also provide guidance and inspiration which are needed and essential for continued growth. Being an educator has been one of the most selfless things I have done, and the reward has been so gratifying. A quote by Jeannette Walls reads, “Teaching is a calling too. And I’ve always thought that teachers in their own was are holy – angels leading their flocks out of darkness”. Nicole Walker’s Takeaway of the Week Veronica mentioned the importance of having a routine to increase our focus. Routines allow us to manage our time more efficiently and create balance in our lives. Routines also help us avoid being stressed, anxious, and overwhelmed if we create our plan and stick to the script. Veronica shared her morning routine with us, which consisted of prayer, meditation, exercise, and eating. This is a great and productive way to start our day. I will make it my business to create and stick to a routine, especially first thing in the morning. I aim to have a great day every day, and know that a routine will help me reach this goal. A quote by Tim Ferris reads, “If you win the morning, you win the day”. Nicole Walker’s Leadership Challenge My leadership challenge for you would be to think about the one thing you can take away from this episode and adopt into your life. I know it’s hard to absorb too much information at one time and it’s even harder to try and implement too many changes at once. When I attend a training or listen to podcasts I aim to walk away with a least one thing that stuck out to me and one way that I can change as a result. I challenge you to do the same! If you decide to take me up on my challenge I would love to know about your key take way. Veronica Foreman is a payload engineer at the small-satellite launch provider Virgin Orbit. Before starting her career at Virgin Orbit, Veronica earned several academic accolades including an Outstanding Undergraduate Researcher Award at Georgia Tech, and a Best Masters Thesis award at MIT. What I find especially impressive about her Masters work on small-satellite constellations is that Veronica considered both the design of constellations, as well as the economic and policy challenges to small-satellite mission success. As Virgin Orbit's mission is to be the premier dedicated launch service for small satellites, Veronica has seemingly found the perfect place for her expertise and passion. One of the key features of Virgin Orbit's launch design is its air-launching system that drops the rocket (LauncherOne) from the wing of a Boeing 747 (Cosmic Girl), providing a movable launchpad. As Veronica explains in this episode, this capability provides Virgin Orbit unique advantages in terms of providing a dedicated launch service for small satellites. In this episode of the Aerospace Engineering podcast, Veronica and I discuss: Virgin Orbit's vision the unique advantages and challenges of an air-launched rocket system some of Virgin Orbit's key engineering technologies and the growing importance of satellite constellations If you enjoy the Aerospace Engineering Podcast you can support it by leaving a review on iTunes or by supporting it directly on Patreon, where patrons of the podcast receive exclusive behind-the-scenes content and special episodes. Welcome back to your favorite film analysis podcast, the GoodTrash GenreCast. We bounce back from the mediocrity that was Aeon Flux with a look at 1988's Heathers. But that's not all! We are joined by a special guest this week. GoodTrash's own Frightful Femme Kirsten Therkelson sits down to discuss the film, which she has pegged on Letterboxd as a perfect film. If you think Kirsten has good taste in film, you should listen to her and Dalton discuss her history of film. Class is in Session with Heathers The 1988 cult classic Heathers features Winona Ryder as Veronica. Veronica is a member of the Heathers clique—made up of all girls named Heather. As Veronica grows tired of their bullying antics, she falls into a relationship with JD (Christian Slater). JD is a bit of a bad boy, and when Veronica figuratively exclaims how she wishes the Heathers would just die. JD literally takes her up on the idea. This week, we quickly offer up our Heathers review, which is fairly unanimous across the board. We then get into our gameplay where we rundown our Most Charming Pop Culture Psychopaths. But that's not all, we also crack open all of the subtext at work in Heathers. We hit on topics of school violence, feminism, sexual politics, absurdism and much more on this week's episode. Oh, there's the bell for lunch. Guess it's time for a LUNCHTIME POLL! GET IN TOUCH Thanks for joining us this week! We're continuing with season 3 of Veronica Mars and its kind of bumming us out. In this week's episodes, Veronica helps find some missing people, one of which is Patty Hearst. She also helps clear Mercer of the rapes, blackmails her boyfriend, revisits the Fitzpatricks and gets roofied. As Veronica tries to figure out how Chip Diller's rape is connected to the ongoing case, the angry feminists continue to make your hosts angry feminists. Oh, and the Veronica & Logan stuff is such a bummer that Holly almost cries about it. This podcast may require booze.
Balancing the Feminine and Masculine Creative Energies When most people talk of creating their reality, they speak in terms of manifesting which means consciously and deliberately striving to bring something they want into physical reality. Tools like visualization and affirmations are often used. A feeling of “taking charge” bubbles up and they feel a sense of control. As Veronica points out in our conversation, this energy of “doing” is masculine in its vibration and is aligned with labor and work. In order to truly co-create your reality with the Universe, this masculine energy of manifesting must be balanced with the feminine energy of allowing. While manifesting requires work, allowing requires listening and surrender. In other words, don’t just ask for what you want, also spend time listening to what the Universe wants for you. Just like the union of male and female is needed to create life, the union of masculine and feminine energies is needed to co-create reality. How do you cultivate feminine energy? Stay in a place of curiosity and wonderment. Ask questions like: What am I here to do? What is in my best interest? And then as you remain present, listen to what comes up. Because our culture places so much emphasis on doing, working, striving, and achieving, Veronica points out that staying in this space of listening will initially feel uncomfortable. Our ego will tell us that we need to do more and the task master within us will try and assert itself. But through repetitive practice of working to manifest want we want and listening to what the Universe wants for us, we can balance our masculine and feminine energies and co-create a life that is aligned with our soul’s desire.
