The future is flux. Summer is here, and that can mean only one thing; Hot Dave's Summer Film Fest is back!!! And this time we're bringing you a summer film fest of epic proportions, filled with the best (and worst) of the Hollywood comic book film machine…female-led comic book films. That's right, fellas - the Future is Super Female!!! I'm your host, Dave, and joining me as we begin our summer long journey into the world of tomorrow is fellow cinephile and Goodchild clone baby, Mike. Topics of discussion in this episode include a world where all assassins travel via backflip; we Charlize Theron wears a slightly less pervy costume than the one seen in the anime; and finally, we talk about the making of Aeon Flux and how the executives must have all been screaming the same thing: Make it more like the Matrix!! Be sure to rate, review and subscribe wherever you get your podcasts. You can also Follow Us on Twitter, Like Us on Facebook, or shoot us an email at apocalypsevideopod@gmail.com That'll do it for this week's episode, true believers. We'll be back next time with an even more scantily clad female heroine with…Barb Wire.
Nick and Evan revisit their mid 90s late night animated wet fever dreams and get reacquainted with mid 2000s melancholy, but its still just fiction! Also Charlize Theron's ass! Enjoy!Remember to email us at comicconspodcast@gmail.comFollow us @comicconscast (X) or @comicconspodcast (instagram

Sci-Fi Saturdays This week on Sci-Fi Saturdays Jay examined an experimental movie called Aeon Flux. This 2005 Charlize Theron film was based on an animated show, but production problems affected the final outcome after the director was held back from doing what was needed to polish it properly. Still fun to check out. Make sure to play around with the interactive map on MCULocationScout.com. There are some new locations from Deadpool 1 and 2 in preparation for the new movie. Live action movies based on animated series can be a tough challenge. Now imagine taking an animated series that initially appeared on MTV's Liquid Television, a series that made you seriously wonder how good the drugs were back in the early 90's, give it to a director with one film under her belt, add in a heaping pile of studio interference, and watch the degree of difficulty rise. Time to dive in and see if 2005's Aeon Flux is not that bad. www.notthatbadcast.com Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/notthatbadcast Social Media - @notthatbadcast (X, Instagram, Threads, Bluesky, Spoutible) Learn more about your ad choices. Aeon Flux is often forgotten when discussing Charlize Theron's action roles. Before Mad Max: Fury Road turned her into a legitimate genre icon, a status re-affirmed by Atomic Blonde and The Old Guard, her first attempt at headlining an action flick, 2005's Aeon Flux, had been largely forgotten. At the time, Theron was mostly known for prestige drama. She had won an Oscar in 2004 for his role as Aileen Wuornos in Patty Jenkins' Monster. She chose to follow this up by trying her luck at leading an action franchise, as female-driven action films were having a moment thanks to the success of the Underworld franchise. Directed by Karyn Kusama and based on the cult MTV Animated series, Aeon Flux seemed to have everything going for it. Still, the film was a notorious bomb that temporarily derailed Kusama's career, while Theron would avoid action movies until being lured back by George Miller. So what happened? We explain how studio battles, dulling cuts of the film and a fetishized heroine derailed what could have been a big franchise for all involved in this episode of WTF Happened to this Movie, written by Gaius Bolling, edited by Paul Podeyn, and narrated by Mathew Plale.

Episode 399: Little bit of a different take on this episode as we review our first show that is technically not an anime? We take a look at a dystopian world whose inhabitants are either on the side of chaos, led by Aeon Flux, or the side of order under the rule of Trevor Goodchild. These fated two fight over what is right and wrong for the people of Bregna and Monica, two nations that differ from each other in law and society, in what is the last two places in the world inhabited by humans. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/anime-summit/message
The "Dirty Sons of Pitches" are going through the 2000s decade in film year-by-year and have worked up to 2005, selecting two movies to view and discuss, the sci-fi action thriller "Aeon Flux" that flopped and the little-known drama/dark comedy/conservative fantasy, "Edmund," starring William H. Macy as Travis Bickle but as a middle-aged middle manager. Available on Apple and Spotify Episode 377 includes: -Three new "Star Wars" movies announced. -New "Marvels" trailer to make Internet man-babies weep. -Nate has seen the glory of "John Wick 4" and the mediocrity of "65." -Ben finds the "Super Mario Brothers" movie to be strictly for kids. -By the Decade -- 2005 -- "Aeon Flux" / "Edmund" -The guys break down their disaapoinment with the big screen live-action adaptation of one of the better adult cartoons from the 90s, "Aeon Flux," and then dive into the provocative and befuddling "Edmund" based upon David Mamet's one act play.
Our hosts Tom and Dave lament a mediocre attempt at a surrealist cartoon.

MONSTER PARTY TOONS OUT! JAMES GONIS, SHAWN SHERIDAN, LARRY STROTHE, and MATT WEINHOLD, ani-make-some-trouble with this in depth look at the dark side of a usually lighthearted subject. It's an episode we indecently titled… CONTROVERSIAL CARTOONS!!! Everyone loves a good cartoon, but since the birth of cel animation, this artform has occasionally been hit with the anvil of controversy. Many a cartoon has been labeled violent, obscene, sexist, pornographic, inappropriate, counterculture, anti-establishment, and of course, racist. In this podcast, MONSTER PARTY examines these troublesome toons, in an attempt to objectively assess their pejorative labels. Do they deserve their negative publicity? Were they simply a product of their times? And in an age of canceling, is there a place for provocative animation? Joining us for this merrie melody of mayhem, is an Emmy Award-winning writer/director/producer, actor, and quite the kick-ass stand up bass player! During the 90's, he was the VP of Animation at MTV, and brought us such classics as BEAVIS & BUTT-HEAD, DARIA, AEON FLUX, THE MAXX, and THE HEAD. Please welcome… JOHN ANDREWS! (MTV, 6 POINT MEDIA, KLASKY CSUPO, DREAMEAST PICTURES, HOUSE OF COOL) TH-TH-TH-THAT'S OFFENSIVE FOLKS!!!
We welcome back Pixel Dice Creator Jean Simonet to the game! The Adventurers are still in the gnome town of Brastlework located inside the devil nation of Cheliax, which is a huge problem for our paladin! They reconnecting with Luna and Ren, Theros and Anastasia share the fortunes from the crystal balls, and the hidden clue that might just lead them to the void sphere they're searching for. The two gifted Gnomes, Julian, played by special guest star Jean Simonet, AI developer of Fallout 3&4, Skyrim, Aeon Flux and Oblivion, as well as being the creator of Pixel dice (the first electronically augmented dice) and Gravis, the magical fortune teller, played by the Rules God, decide that they will act as the party's guides and lead them to whispering forest, to meet the entity known as Duality. Ahead of leaving the city, Ren wanders from the group, as they fight after who should be keeping him safe, and is consumed by an unholy darkness. Attempting to once again save him, our group witnesses an event that will change everything and forever leave their very souls broken. As one hero departs to the boneyard and one arrives, truly reborn, a powerful wizard might be the only one who can deliver our hero's to their final destiny and destroy the Aspis before it tears the world apart. ABOUT PIXEL DICE These dice are beautiful, flash with siren colour combinations, know your roll, and report that to your virtual tabletop. It's not a surprise to see these Pixel doing well, it's more unusual to see the big computer game sites cover a dice Kickstarter, but I guess the fancy electronics have captured attention. So, let's see what the internet has been talking about and helped Jean Simonet smash the $200,000 goal. There's more than $3,500,000 pledged so far, and you've still gone three weeks for your willpower to crumble. #pixel, #pixeldice, #jean simonet, #kickstarter, #rpg, #dnd, #pathfinder, #pathfinder2e, #pathfinderpodcast, #gmmacleods, #theloadeddicerollers, #Loadeddicerollers, #rpgallstars

Surprised by the abrupt arrival of Anastasia, to the front gates, Ren and Theros stay back and help garner her entry to the city. Entering the main city hub, Ren, Theros and Anastasia are greeted by two outlandishly colorful Gnomes, one played by Special guest star Jean Simonet, AI developer of Fallout 3&4, Skyrim, Aeon Flux and Oblivion, as well as being the creator of Pixel dice (the first electronically augmented dice) playing chief entertainer Julian with his magical assistant Gravis, the fortune teller, played by the Rules God. Working together to tell outrageous colorful stories, Gravis is able to read multiple fortunes for Anastasia and Theros, lending them foreboding knowledge of the potential grim future ahead. At the dawn of the '90s, a magical thing happened when MTV began diversifying their programming - they launched a cutting-edge animation show called LIQUID TELEVISION, which changed animation forever. AEON FLUX and BEAVIS AND BUTT-HEAD sprung from this fertile anthology show, bringing the avant-guard and the hilariously puerile into homes across the world. The success of these shows lead to hits like DARIA, THE HEAD, THE MAXX, and more!

After an 8 month hiatus (who do you think you are, you're not in a f***ing band), My Kind of Weird is back. On this episode we welcome Morbid Sheep Comics owner, Tim Burden, into the chair to give his weirdness a pitch. Aeon Flux takes on Alien, the darkness of Jim Woodring's Frank in all its weirdness somehow matches up against the suicide heavy comic Borrowed Time and finally Deftone's Gore squares off with Daughters' You Won't Get What You Want in a "who is more alternative metal" competition. If you enjoyed this discussion then check out Tim's work on Instagram - @morbidsheepcomicsThis Podcast episode is sponsored by Greenlight Soap (which is definitely not radioactive)Read by Andy SmithCopy written by Anthony Pollock See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

In this week's episode we discuss the 2006 action film Ultraviolet, which is currently available to watch on Starz. We gotta be honest--this was a really bad movie, but we try our best to make sense of what could be described as a mix of Kill Bill, The Matrix, Aeon Flux, and maybe Blade? There were several questions we just couldn't answer such as why Violet's hair and clothes sometimes change colors and why the villain wore nose plugs? Plus, one of us is bothered by the fact that the vampire-like hero doesn't have fangs or drink blood.
Will Hines joins the panel for the latest imagining of The Twilight Zone from Jordan Peele -- an idea whose time may have come and (thanks to Black Mirror) gone. Will the show find its footing once the proof-of-concept episodes are done? And is this enough to get folks to pay for CBS All Access? Later, we went Around The Dial with HBO's peek comedies Veep and Barry, Aeon Flux-y guilty pleasure Love, Death & Robots, ER, and Deadwind before Dave The Poker Pro challenged us to find the next deep-dive Again With This podcast topic. We considered a precious (geddit?) Steven Universe episode for The Canon before declaring SVU a long-running winner and Tori Spelling an Insta loser...and then Phil Collins sang us into a very friendly Game Time. There's something on the wing! (It's an all-new Extra Hot Great.) GUESTS
