TrekCore is excited to announce the launch of a second podcast to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Star Trek – Warp Factor 5: A Star Trek Rewatch Podcast. Launching alongside our longrunning WeeklyTrek news podcast, every two weeks on Thursdays host Alex Perry will be joined by a guest to discuss and rate the next five episodes of Star Trek in in-universe chronological order beginning with Star Trek: Enterprise and traveling forward from there. In each episode, Alex and his guest will discuss and rate five episodes of Star Trek, and then pick from across those five episodes the Best Series Regular Performance, Best Guest Performance, Best Production Design Element, Best Quiet Moment, and Best Loud Moment. They'll also discuss how these five episodes contribute to the larger Star Trek narrative across more than 900 episodes, and share memories of the first time they watched the episodes – was it live on UPN? BBC 2? WPIX Channel 11? Sky One? CIC VHS tapes? DVD? Netflix? Paramount+? There are two things that make Warp Factor 5 distinct from most Star Trek rewatch podcasts: discussing five episodes at a time, and moving through the franchise in in-universe chronological order. Examining five episodes at a time gives space to compare episodes in blocks, examining in greater detail differences in character and themes. And beginning with Enterprise and moving in in-universe chronological order gives a new way to enjoy the Star Trek story, as an inter-connected narrative spanning 60 years of real history and over one thousand years of narrative history. The show will begin with Enterprise, followed by Discovery's first two seasons, Strange New Worlds, Star Trek, The Animated Series, The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, Voyager, Lower Decks, Prodigy, Picard, Discovery's last three seasons, and Starfleet Academy. Where will the Kelvin Timeline movies fall? What about the Short Treks? The TNG movies? How will you handle the period during the 1990s when two Star Trek shows were on at once? You'll just have to listen to find out! This is a rewatch podcast, and we'll be discussing full spoilers for past and future Star Trek as we make our way through the shows. But you don't have to be a Star Trek expert to enjoy Warp Factor 5. Each episode discussion will include a synopsis of the episode we're talking about to jog your memory, with plenty of audio clips from the episodes so you can hear for yourself the moments that are being discussed. If you've always had the desire (like Alex has!) to rate every episode of Star Trek and figure out which episodes are your favorites (or least favorite!), we hope you'll join us at home, watch the episodes with us, and submit your ratings. Also make sure to let us know your picks for Best Series Regular, Best Guest Performance, Best Production Design Element, Best Quiet Moment, and Best Loud Moment! Alex will be gathering all the ratings and feedback received and at the end of each season will have a special episode discussing feedback and the final definitive ranking of that season's episodes. Warp Factor Five is available now on all your podcast platforms so make sure to subscribe to ensure that you don't miss an episode. The first episode of the show, covering the Star Trek: Enterprise season one episodes "Broken Bow," "Fight or Flight," "Strange New World," "Unexpected," and "Terra Nova," will debut on Thursday, June 18. Join us on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, YouTube, and more!

On this week’s Mad Men Men, we unpack "At the Codfish Ball." The episode centers on dinners, children, in-laws, and professional wins. More importantly, it asks what growing up really means. Usually, it means learning how badly adults can disappoint you. We talk about Megan as her own person, not just Don’s fantasy. We also explore how the episode uses her family to sharpen that point. Her father resents Don for political and personal reasons. Her mother reads everyone in seconds and acts on it. And Don, for once, feels like a stranger in his own home. Meanwhile, Peggy sees what success looks like when someone else gets it first. Then Roger treats spiritual enlightenment like a new sport coat. And Sally gets one of the show’s best storylines. She starts to see that adulthood does not mean sophistication. Instead, it means mess, compromise, and contamination. Along the way, we dig into the Heinz beans pitch. We also talk about the sadness of professional validation. Then we get into Roger’s post-LSD self-regard and the comic horror of Glenn. Finally, we explain why this episode feels quieter than "Far Away Places" but hits just as hard. Every social ritual strips away a little more innocence. Of course, because this is our show, we also wander into spaghetti, French accents, bean advertising, and Roger Sterling discourse. If you’re new here, Mad Men Men covers Mad Men from three angles. First, we have a first-time watcher. Then, we have a first-time rewatcher. Finally, we have one man who turned Don Draper into a weekly podcast problem. EXTRA CREDITS Matthew Weiner created Mad Men, which aired on AMC from 2007 to 2015. The show stars Jon Hamm, January Jones, Elisabeth Moss, Vincent Kartheiser, Christina Hendricks, John Slattery, Robert Morse, and many more. Our intro music is "Mad Men Men" by Tom Davidson, which is an original remix of the show’s opening theme "A Beautiful Mine" by RJD2. Podcast illustration is by Jon Negroni. Our podcast hosts include Jon Negroni (Podcast Editor of InBetweenDrafts), Will Ashton (cohost of the Cinemaholics podcast), and Michael Overhulse (a guy who’s addicted to working at startups). We’ll be back soon to discuss Season 5 Episode 8, titled "Lady Lazarus." This is Season 7, Episode 9 of this "The Vampire Diaries" related podcast! Pete is watching the show for the first time and Ash is a superfan. Each episode they watch an episode of TVD and discuss. This week they talk about being sick, being down with the sickness, being sick nasty, Connor Jordan, being off the 'net, if there are books about babies, Seth Rogen vehicles, and much more! They do some Pete-dictions at the end of the show. PLUS A GAME! “Far Away Places” is one of those Mad Men episodes where the show quietly changes shape. This week on Mad Men Men, we dig into that Season 5 standout. First, the episode fractures a single day into three interlocking stories. Then, it follows Peggy, Roger, and Don as each tries to escape a life that feels unbearable. Meanwhile, Peggy chases professional authority and confronts how lonely ambition can feel. Roger drops acid and stumbles into one of the series’ clearest emotional revelations. At the same time, Don takes a spontaneous trip with Megan. Yet again, he learns that fantasy is easy to build and nearly impossible to inhabit. Along the way, we explore why this might be Mad Men at its most novelistic. We also talk about why the experimentation never feels gimmicky. Instead, it deepens everything. And likewise, the episode’s mirrors, doubling, and displacement turn three plots into variations on one theme. There’s also room for what our show does best. Yes, we riff on orange sherbet, bad intros, and Howard Johnson’s as a site of psychic collapse. And then we talk about the strange relief of realizing your life has become untenable. If you’re new here, Mad Men Men recaps Mad Men through three perspectives. First, we have our first-time viewer. Then there’s our first-time rewatcher. Finally, there’s the guy who has to podcast about everything instead of going to therapy. EXTRA CREDITS Matthew Weiner created Mad Men, which aired on AMC from 2007 to 2015. When Stephen Spielberg released his iconic film Jaws in the summer of 1975, he not only kicked off the phenomenon of the summer blockbuster, but also reignited the public's fascination with and fear of shark attacks. Although based on a book of the same name, that novel was itself heavily influenced on several real-life events from the past, including one particular summer on the Jersey Shore. In the early twentieth-century, most Americans didn't think much about sharks or the other potentially dangerous fish and animals that lived in the ocean. In fact, the majority of Americans don't live in coastal areas and probably didn't know there were differences between species. That all changed in the summer of 1916, when a loan shark killed four people and critically injured one person in the waters along the Jersey Shore. More than merely accidental bites, the attacks seemed almost intentional, leading to the widespread belief that a man-eater was stalking the waters of the northeastern state. In the century that has passed since, the Jersey Shore shark attacks have fueled Americans imaginations and nightmares, leading to widely celebrated novels and films about sharks, but also contributing to serious misunderstandings about sharks and their behavior, often with terrible consequences.
