Today I have been talking to Jo Milmine from Shiny Bees. Jo is a former RAF Aerospace Battle Manager who turned her love of knitting into a multi-award-winning podcast series. Since August 2012 Jo has hosted the Shiny Bees podcast, a show about knitting and yarn mixed with snippets of Jo's life and a lot of comedy goodness Originally started as a hobby to fill her time during a posting to Africa Jo built a location independent business to move wherever she was posted. She now records podcasts whilst traveling the world, and Shinybees was awarded ‘Best UK Podcast of 2016' at the New Media Europe Awards and ‘Most Engaged Audience of 2015' at the UK Podcast Awards. Jo also works as an online business strategist, helping creatives plan their businesses and so this episode is jam-packed with handy business tips, even if you never picked up some knitting needles. I loved chatting to Jo, she's funny, informative and so very inspiring so I hope you enjoy this episode with Jo Milmine from Shiny Bees.

This is the multi-award winning(!) Shinybees podcast, winner of the Best UK Podcast of 2016.  Thanks to everyone who voted for the show. If you want to see the video of the acceptance speech, it's in the show notes.  Knitting wise, I have been working mostly on Helen Stewart's Talisman Shawl from her Shawl Society club. It's being knit in Urban Hints 'Blood Orange' from The Wool Kitchen. The #RewindKAL has completed from a prize point of view, but we can keep going with the chat thread as I'm still nowhere near done. I have realised that I am not a slow knitter, I just don't spend enough time knitting. The Golden Skein's Summer Power of 3 Club featured Eden Cottage Yarns, Dublin Dye and Triskelion Yarn. You can find all details at www.thegoldenskein.com. Signups are open 1-7th July for the Autumn quarter 2016. Show notes are at shinybees.com Music for this episode is Adam and the Walter Boys with 'I Need a Drink'.

So....it's been a while since we've gabbed at you, hasn't it? Our apologies for the delay in getting this episode out; Allison was away at TNNA and our kids are in the final push for the end of the year, so it’s been a bit manic. So for this episode we thought it might be best to have a catch up. Shout outs, news and events: 1) HUGE shout out to everyone who joined us for our first ever WWKIPDay event. It was great to see so many new faces and we hope to see a lot of you back at knit night. Sorry we forgot to take pictures! Ack! 2) Shout out too to Karie Westermann, who has funded her Kickstarter for her book, This Thing of Paper. Karie has more than doubled her fundraising goal and we couldn’t be more pleased for her. Kudos Karie! 3) Another shout out to our friend Carmen from A Yarn Story in Bath. This week in the UK people are voting on whether or not the UK should stay in the EU. Carmen wrote a blog post about how a Brexit could potentially affect her business. Take a look. 4) Our awesome podcasting pal Jo Milmine of the Shinybees podcast won this year's Best UK Podcast award. We're well chuffed for her. Congrats Jo! 25-26 June - Woolfest, Cumbria 1st July - tickets for GLYC 2016 go on sale!!! 16-17th July - Yarningham, a new show in Birmingham 16-17th July - Jyväskylä Summer Knit Festival, Jyväskylä, Finland 30-31st July - Fibre East, Ampthill, Bedfordshire  GLYC 2016 update: Less than two weeks to go before tickets are on sale! The book is still in English though… You can now find it at Boutique Le Comptoir and l’Oisive Thé et Tricot and La Bien Aimée in Paris. Our London Craft Guide CAL (Craft-along) is in full swing! Be sure to tag your social media shares with #LCGCraftalong on Instagram and Twitter, or LCGCraftalong on Ravelry.   What we’re working on Rachel has had a bout of startitis. She's still working on a test knit for Kettle Yarn Co., but has also cast on for the Kippen Cardigan by Kat Goldin, a Neat Ripple baby blanket from Lucy at Attic24, and the Talisman Shawl from Helen Stewart's The Shawl Society. Allison is still working on the Toddler Hoodie, and is recovering from TNNA. Oh the yarn fumes! Catching up: Boy is there catching up! TNNA, new jobs, summer plans, and more.   *** Thanks so much for listening! Returning from a mini podcast break, this week I'm joined by none other than the fabulous Countess Ablaze, who invited me to her studio in Manchester to dye some yarn and have a bit of a chat. News-wise, the Patreon for the podcast is no more - it just was not working for me int he way I had hoped.  On a brighter note, the podcast has made the finals of the New Media Europe Awards in two categories: Best UK Podcast and Audience Appreciation Award. Please vote on Twitter each day for the show as 50% of the marks come from number of votes. Onto the non-interview interview. Countess Ablaze is an indie dyer based in Manchester in the UK. Queen of brightly coloured and saturated colour ways and fabulously executed wigs, faux aristocrat Lindsey delights in bold and intense colours, as well as grey. Makes the colours brighter, you see... She began dyeing in late 2011 and has developed her own, super efficient systems and processes to get the fabulous colour ways she produces. The business grew out of what was a very dark time for her and has blossomed into a thriving studio with customers worldwide. Using very technical methods (mushing) she considers the dyeing process as more of an art than a science for her personally as a dyer.  Champion of eye-searing neon, you'll find everything at Countessablaze.com. Show notes are available at www.shinybees.com Music for this episode is Adam and the Walter Boys with 'I Need A Drink'.

Nicole Keating is on a mission to live a life of Epic Wellness, and to inspire and help others in their quest for The Art of Epic Wellness – a life of physical, spiritual and emotional vitality. Nicole maintains: “If you treat your body as a temple, then your body is going to treat you with beautiful energy and epic vitality” And who doesn’t want more energy and vitality? We know we certainly do. Behind the concept of epic wellness is the belief you have the right to know what’s going into the temple that is your body, and the responsibility to share what you know with the people you love. “It’s all about becoming involved with your food”, Nicole tells us. And this carries on from ideas we explored on last week’s Changeability Podcast where we were talking about wellness and wellbeing. Nicole’s website, theartofepicwellness.com and her podcast of the same name seeks to do just that, to explore, uncover, question, unburden and uplevel your wellness journey. After all… “When you invest in clean food going into your body you won’t to have to invest later in your healthcare.” With a life voyage of such life changing proportions, we thought the only decent and British thing to do was to invite her onto the Changeability Podcast to discuss not the science but the Art of Epic Wellness. And when the California State (where Nicole lives) and good old blighty meet – that’s home to Kathryn and I – there’s bound to be room for lively discussion on living a life of such epic proportions.  On today’s Changeability Podcast Hear Nicole, Kathryn and I discuss:  What is Epic Wellness? What is Nicole’s new Art of Epic Wellness Manifesto? Food integrity – the importance of source, and eating seasonally Nurturing our four quadrants: the heart the mind and creativity the spirit and the body. Nicole’s tragedy that brought urgency to the idea of epic wellness. The changes you might need to make in your life to achieve your own epic wellness. Why you might need to try an elimination diet to determine potential allergens in your body How we can live more in a state of physical, spiritual and emotional vitality. The concepts of unburdening and uplevelling ourselves Mindfulness and eating – creating one mindful meal a day How you can start that wellness journey And more “I like to think of my meal as a palette, I’m building a beautiful canvas of food in front of me and I want to see all the different colours, I want to have different textures, I like to have some things cooked and some things raw and whenever I am cooking, I’m thinking about it that way.” Links mentioned on this week’s show We’d love your vote for The Changeability Podcast – it’s up for the Best UK Podcast of 2016 Award – and while you’re there Kathryn would appreciate a vote for Podcast Divas as well!
