Send us a textUnlock the secrets to navigating the often complex and challenging terrain of divorce with insights from our esteemed guest, Ceri Griffiths, a divorce financial planner. Discover how power imbalances, especially when one partner possesses greater financial knowledge or negotiation skills, can create significant disadvantages during divorce. Ceri provides invaluable tips on recognizing these imbalances and offers strategies to equip both parties with the tools needed to make informed decisions. Our discussion underscores the urgent need for legal systems to evolve and address economic abuse and coercive control, with a sneak peek into an upcoming report by Resolution.Ceri GriffithsWhat I Stand For It's my intention to help divorcing women know how to use their financial settlement to create financial well-being and a more rewarding life. I am passionate about this because I believe that financial services has historically been male focused and has marginalised so many women by focusing on growth and products. This means they often feel vulnerable and unprepared at a time when they have to make some of the biggest financial decisions of their lives. I feel it is vital that we level the playing field for women and ensure they have as equal access to expertise as their ex, and that financial services speaks to them in a way that is equally inspiring and motivational. I am on a mission to empower women to become financial capable and to realise that money self-care is the ultimate self-care. They can make their money work for them and achieve peace of mind and a financial plan for a post-divorce life they will love.WebsiteTamsin CaineTamsin is a Chartered Financial Planner with over 20 years experience. Send us a textIn this episode of Financial Planner Life, we are joined by Emma Hall, Chartered Financial Planner of the Year, who shares her career journey through a lens focused on workplace flexibility, women's wellbeing support, and mental health policies - and how these are essential for creating a thriving and resilient firm. For women in financial planning, these are not just HR topics—they directly affect retention, career progression, and overall workplace culture. With Emma's real-world experience and actionable insights, this conversation goes beyond the surface to address current gaps in support systems within the financial planning profession.Emma highlights the increasing demand for flexible work arrangements, especially as more professionals seek a balance between their personal lives and high-pressure careers. However, Emma makes a critical distinction: flexibility must be paired with meaningful in-office interactions, particularly for those new to the field. Firms need to foster an environment where both experienced professionals and emerging talent can grow. The key takeaway? Companies that fail to offer flexibility risk losing top-tier talent, but those that embrace it, paired with strong onboarding and mentoring systems, will have a competitive edge.We also delve into often-overlooked but critical issues like menopause and mental health in the workplace. Menopause affects multitudes of women in the workforce, yet few financial planning firms have policies in place to support women during this stage of life. Emma's advocacy brings attention to the need for real-time mental health resources and open conversations about life events that impact professional performance. Emma's message is clear: businesses that prioritize well-being—by offering comprehensive mental health policies and menopause support—create not only a more inclusive culture but also a more sustainable one. In this episode of Palisades Gold Radio, economist and wealth advisor Jonathan Davis once again joins host Tom Bodrovics to discuss the theme of inflation and its implications for the current economic era. Davis argues that we have transitioned from a disinflationary era lasting over 40 years into one characterized by financial repression, which he defines as higher inflation. Tracing this shift back to the post-World War II era when debt levels were unsustainable, Davis contends that recent financial crises were not caused by COVID but rather by 'shenanigans' in financial markets. With interest rates reaching historic lows by 2020, Davis predicts that inflation for the next generation will be between 5% and 10%, and interest rates will significantly increase from past decade levels. This transition to financial repression is a response to politicians, central bankers, and bankers' desire to maintain inflation rather than risk deflation. The conversation also touches upon China's economic shift from manufacturing to consumer industries and property development, expressing concern over the large number of unsold homes in China despite continued commodity demand. Mr. Davis discusses the historical perspective of asset classes, emphasizing substantial returns from stocks, bonds, and property over recent decades but anticipates declining value as interest rates rise. He advocates investing in commodities as a long-term strategy. Jonathan then discusses the current state of the housing market, despite higher interest rates and the end of fixed-rate mortgages, there hasn't been a significant impact on the housing market yet due to continued employment and low mortgage rates. He also touches upon commercial real estate, suggesting businesses have been able to mitigate costs by subletting unused space and private equity firms delaying effects of the market downturn. Jonathan shares insights on oil prices' correlation with inflation, anticipating a rebound and potentially reaching $200 within the next few years due to insufficient production relative to economic growth, causing significant drops in energy stocks. He encourages staying informed, adapting investment strategies, remaining cautious, and avoiding excessive greed. Significant price increases for uranium, gold, and silver miners, and global energy in the next one to three years due to low supply and increasing demand. Politicians and central bankers will maintain inflation rather than risk deflation, which would benefit consumers but negatively impact the wealthy. Tom welcomes Economist and Wealth Advisor Jonathan Davis back to the show. Jonathan Davis believes we could be repeating the 2008 banking crisis. Central bankers make incorrect statements about the future and have their own agendas often connected to politics. The Fed is surrounded by incapable academics and often behind the curve. Real estate mortgages will have to be reset at higher rates, and unemployment is likely to rise. Interest rates and inflation don't always work together, and there's little value in bonds for long-term investors. Commodities are in a state of collapse, and manufacturing is in contraction globally. China has a large debt and had to implement harsh lockdowns. Western countries are still closing nuclear plants while Japan and China are opening new reactors. The next major risk-off event could be soon and gold will rebound when it happens. He advises investing in funds for specific asset classes rather than individual stocks.
