Any track marked * has been given either a tiny or a slightly larger 41 Rooms tweak/edit/chop and the occasional tune might sound a bit dodgy, quality-wise. On top of that, the switch between different decades and production values never helps in the mix here. Me on photos duty, none of which I would have remembered until Steve Morris sent me photos I’d taken this night… with my writing on the back… followed by the above Movement Definitive Edition then including the video. I remember the afternoon soundcheck chat and Ozzy leaving the mixing desk mid gig and standing next to me but the things you forget… 05.03 PAUL HAIG – Trip Out The Rider – 7″ – Impotent Fury – 2010 ‘Packaged in a fancy pants paper cut sleeve that is hand screen-printed, foil embossed and limited to 500 copies. Rumoured to be the first of six vinyl releases… ‘ – Discogs His albums surface only very occasionally these days and any teaser singles even less so. This 7″ – driving with the zest of his early years – appears to have been the most recent but he’s a ‘signature’ voice we should hear more of. 07.41 LINES OF SILENCE – Lines In Opposition (Radio Edit) – Lines In Opposition, LP – Sprechen – 2026 These sleeves aren’t getting any easier to look at. An experimental krautrock band (Can? Neu?… ) out of Todmorden, UK – ‘a hotbed of UFO activity and home to the UK’s highest ever beach‘ – and I slightly cheated the vinyl thing here, as the Radio Edit is only downloadable, with the full version on the just released vinyl album. Should have gone with the latter. 11.12 SILICON VALLEY – X-Cell – Cold Waves Of Color Volume 3, v/artists LP – Color Disc – 2016 Whoever they were/are, they seem to have only released six singular tracks over a period of forty two years(!) * and on Color Disc label, v/artist albums only. A side hustle, the SV releases are not. * Makes Got-Ta-Scatta look prolific. 15.09 CLOCK DVA – 4 Hours (7″ Version) – 7″ – Fetish – 1981 Adi Newton is a voice that sits you up but they’d had a bucket load of self and semi released material before I tuned in with the Thirst album that includes this their debut 7″. 18.59 THE EVENT GROUP – Approach Work (Pt B) – Approach Work, self released, cassette only – ? – 1983 For any kids picking up on this, the voice you hear here is of England cricketing legend of yesteryear, Freddie Truman, also featured on the main Approach Work track already playlisted on 41 Rooms and the cassette’s cover, obviously, where he nearly looks like he’s got his ever present pipe on the go. And as for the church bells on the track… maybe adding to the image of a village green setting? Search out the band’s Feb ’82 Riverside TV appearance at some point. An entertaining watch at the time and another release for me to upload (the images anyway) to Discogs at some point, maybe. 25.11 UT – Evangelist – Split 7″ – Blast First – 1989 Yep, also the lead track from the 1987 album, In Gut’s House but I’ve gone for the, split with Dinosaur Jr., 7″ and as mentioned before here at 41 Rooms, a band I’ve grown to like more now than I maybe did back then. Definitely an ‘indie’ sound. 32.42 DEENA WEBSTER – Scarborough Fair – 7″ – Parlophone – 1968 A folk standard I seem to remember hearing fairly regularly when I was young, so in one guise or another it must have cropped up on the radio and TV, though I never had the urge to buy it until I heard Deena’s version in more recent years and though she maintained the tempo of the song’s more traditional singers it’s everything backing her wasting no time in getting ‘busy’ that helps this version get my vote. ‘Bustling folk’, so let’s hear it for Deena and her arranger… “I chose none of the singles (from the album Is Tuesdays Child) apart from Scarborough Fair.” The track was one of the first arrangements for another artist by Barbara Moore. She was best known for her work as a singer with The Ladybirds and, when she arrived at the studio, many of the musicians thought that she'd come to help with backing vocals. She remembers that when she got onto the rostrum to conduct,the baton “it fell out of my sweaty little palm and ended up on the bass drum – that relaxed the whole atmosphere”. I’d never heard of them until this track recently bumped into me but you then do a bit of a dig and Duvet has 43million Youtube hits… so you have to do a bigger dig. Here they sound not unlike The Sundays but that bigger dig explains some of the above. 01.00.00 RENAISSANCE – Back Home Once Again – 7″ – Warner Brothers – 1977 And what were the chances? Looking for something to follow Boa’s Duvet I decided on this 1977 single from Renaissance, a ‘prog folk’ band who for a couple of years in the late ’70s I had a real liking for. It turns out that Bôa’s drummer, Lee Sullivan is the son of Renaissance’s former drummer, Terry Sullivan. Who’d have thunk, eh? 01.03.03 HANNE HUKKELBERG – Do As I Do – Little Things, LP – Leaf – 2005 Promo’d (albeit as a CD only) as the single off the album at the time, so this was the ‘teaser’ – and it’s easy to see why. Unusual for a dance track with nothing special in the vocals department to chart mainstream but this did just that. Maybe some intrigue and charm in the ‘Must be the reason why I’m king of my castle‘ lyric as it chugs along? Sometimes there’s just no knowing… 01.39.04 JOHNNY MAESTRO & THE CRESTS – I’m Stepping Out Of The Picture – 7″ – Scepter Records – 1965 If there’s a world in music I won’t stop finding ‘new’ gems it’s the rare/northern etc soul scene. I heard this gritty and restrained-in-equal-measures brassy belter for the first time only recently, via Beth Arzy (Jetstream Pony and others) capturing herself in front of a DJ spinning this tune. Re-released a couple of times in the intervening years, I won’t though be getting an original copy any time soon, as that could be anywhere between $800 and for a promo copy, $1700! 01.41.17 JIMMY RUFFIN – It’s Wonderful (To Be Loved By You) – 7″ – Tamla Motown – 1970 Motown still in their prime in these years and come the mid-late 70s I had the grand notion of collecting every UK Motown single between TMG 501 and TMG 801… but I soon gave up the ghost, though this one made it into the fold. 01.43.58 McFADDEN & WHITEHEAD – Ain’t No Stoppin’ Us Now * – 12″ – Philadelphia Int – 1979 Reminds me of Bedfordshire clubs of the time, and footballing mates and girlfriends and not a care in the world. 01.49.53 THE TYRREL CORPORATION – Going Home (Original Mix) * – 12″ – Cooltempo – 1992 Had three or four biggish tunes that gave them an identity of sorts. Not sure why great train robber, Buster Edwards is here but this was a 15.8.92 ad, most probably in Record Mirror. 01.55.08 NEW ORDER (Again!) – World In Motion (1990 No Alla Violenza Mix) * – 12″ – Factory – 1990 It’s World Cup time again! So, for only the second time (I think) in 41 Rooms’ history it’s New Order twice in one show – and the last time was Show 1! With a break in there nicked from somewhere I can’t quite grasp and Barney’s vocal deservedly getting some real breathing space here in between the Italo piano, will it do the job for us footie fans this time around? Kayleigh explains how the initiative aims to move beyond siloed working—bringing universities, local authorities, NHS partners and more into a shared, strategic approach that strengthens evidence-informed policy across Yorkshire and Humber. The conversation dives into the origins of the Network of Networks, the key challenges identified—such as knowledge mobilisation, data sharing, and aligning research with policy needs—and the practical steps already being taken to address them. From building a regional community of practice to developing shared “Areas of Research Interest,” this episode highlights how collaboration can create greater collective impact. Lauren and Kayleigh also reflect on what it takes to make collaboration “business as usual,” discussing the importance of incentives, clear value for partners, and building on existing work rather than starting from scratch. They also tackle the long-term challenge of sustainability, exploring why lasting infrastructure and institutional memory are key to making this work stick. Nat meets up with Theresa the landlady of one of Biggleswade's most mysterious pubs. There's very little historical information about the Whistle and Flute, which changed its name from the Elephant and Castle in the 1990s. Theresa and her staff have all experienced strange phenomena in the pub, and Nat hopes to shed some light on why that might be. Nat also speaks with Lloyd Lugsden of the “Dead Pubs of Bedfordshire” project to find out if he has come across any themes when it comes to haunted pubs across the county. This leads Nat to uncover a tragic story about drunken driving of a horse and trap. Finally, Nat speaks with Kevin O'Shea from Supernatural Japan podcast about his experiences in haunted pubs in Canada and Japan. Japan's drinking culture is traditionally very different to Europe and North America's and it seems their rich ghost lore makes for some interesting experiences in their traditional inns (Ryoken.) GB2RS News Sunday, the 22nd of March 2026 The news headlines: Put the RSGB 2026 AGM in your diary Make your vote count in the RSGB elections The RSGB is an official partner for WRTC2026 The RSGB 2026 AGM will take place at 10 am on Saturday, the 18th of April and will be held online to ensure as many members as possible can watch and take part. The Society has also announced the results of the Regional Representative elections, where two candidates have been elected unopposed. Using RTTY on the 80 to 10m bands, where contests are permitted, the exchange is signal report, serial number and time. On Tuesday, the 24th of March, the RSGB SHF UK Activity Contest runs from 1930 to 2230UTC. Using all modes on 2.3 to 10GHz frequencies, the exchange is signal report, serial number and locator. On Wednesday, the 25th of March, the United Kingdom and Ireland Contest Club Contest runs from 2000 to 2100UTC. Using CW on the 80m band, the exchange is your six-character locator. On Thursday, the 26th of March, the RSGB 80m Club Championship runs from 2000 to 2130UTC. Using SSB on the 80m band, the exchange is signal report and serial number. The CQ World Wide WPX SSB Contest starts at 0000UTC on Saturday, the 28th and runs until 2359UTC on Sunday, the 29th of March. Using SSB on the 160 to 10m bands, where contests are permitted, the exchange is signal report and serial number. On Sunday, the 29th of March, the UK Microwave Group Millimetre Band Contest runs from 0800UTC to 1700UTC. Using all modes on 24 to 76GHz frequencies, the exchange is signal report, serial number and locator. Now the radio propagation report, compiled by G0KYA, G3YLA and G4BAO on Thursday the 19th of March Last weekend's Commonwealth Contest got off to a bad start, thanks to a Kp index of 6 that really affected the ionosphere. As a result, HF conditions were not good with the maximum usable frequency over a 3,000km path below 21MHz until 1700UTC. Luckily, things improved a little on Sunday, but overall scores were down compared with previous events. The Kp index increase was due to a coronal hole stream, which reached 600 to 700 kilometres per second and a Bz that pointed south. The equinox period hasn't helped due to the Russell-McPherron effect, a phenomenon that occurs when the Earth's magnetic field aligns with the Sun's magnetic field during equinoxes, creating ‘cracks' in the magnetosphere. Otherwise, the week has been unremarkable. The solar flux index has remained firmly in the 110s, and there have been no X-class solar flares, only a few M and lesser C-class events. Next week, HF propagation may be dominated again by the solar wind. Coronal hole number 33 will begin to face Earth, and a high-speed stream was predicted to reach us this weekend, ending today, the 22nd. A coronal mass ejection was also predicted to arrive around Thursday, the 19th. NOAA predicts the Kp index will rise to 5 this weekend and not decline to 3 until the 26th of March. Meanwhile, the solar flux is predicted to remain in the 105 to 120 range until the 27th of March. It may then increase slightly to be in the 120s until the end of the month. As a result, expect lower maximum usable frequencies and poorer HF conditions until around next Thursday, the 26th and Friday, the 27th of March. And now the VHF and up propagation news from G3YLA and G4BAO The high pressure that developed during the second half of last week formed on the warmer side of the front and, as a result, produced slightly better tropo conditions than looked possible the previous week. The weather is probably going to try to change to a cold-air high in the coming week, so expect conditions to decline. However, that's not the only reason for a decline. As the main high centre displaces west of Britain, we will find a colder and unsettled west or north-westerly pattern affecting the UK next week. So less tropo, but more chance of some rain scatter for the upper GHz bands. Meteor scatter remains in the random activity domain, although we are edging closer to the next major shower of the late April Lyrids. It's not to say that exciting things can't happen, however. Just after a HamSCI workshop on the subject of meteor scatter last weekend, a multi-ton meteoroid was reported from Cleveland, Ohio, on the HamSCI Google groups at around 1300UTC on the 17th of March. This produced a sonic boom and was visible in broad daylight. All is quiet on the Sporadic-E front, although we are slowly moving towards a period when the first glimmers of activity show themselves, particularly on digital modes.  Lastly, a comment on the chances of an aurora. These are usually enhanced due to solar-terrestrial alignment around the equinoxes, and with two coronal mass ejections predicted to arrive at the tail end of last week, ending today, the 22nd. As usual, check for an increasing Kp index above 5. For EME, yesterday saw the 5.7GHz section of the Dubus CW and SSB EME contest and associated all-mode activity weekend. With Moon declination positive and rising, and path losses still low, it hopefully produced some nice contacts. On VHF, 144MHz sky noise is low in the coming week. And that's all from the propagation team this week.

It was around 7 pm on August 13, 1981, and 36-year-old Carol Morgan was working the till at her corner shop in a town called Leighton Buzzard in the county of Bedfordshire, England. On that night, Carol was working at the shop alone, getting ready for closing, which was at 6pm. But someone surprised her. She was later found in a pool of blood. Forensic testing revealed that Carol had been brutally beaten and stabbed with a weapon, something like an axe or a machete, something heavy but very sharp. She had been hit so hard that pieces of her skull and brain matter were on the floor. On learning a craft the hard way: "I thought it would be very easy actually dry stone walling... as soon as I started doing it I realized it is far more difficult than you think... I embarrass myself greatly." 6. On what other countries do better: "If you are a top crafts person in Japan or South Korea or even in France, you can be called a living national treasure where the state actually pays you to promote your craft and to pass it on. We do not have such a scheme in the UK." 7. On the apprenticeship crisis: "The biggest problem is apprenticeships. There's woefully little support for apprenticeships in the UK... if the UK really wants to make a difference to craft and to make it more viable, it needs to invest more significantly in its apprenticeship schemes." 8. On hidden heritage in unexpected places: "Wherever you come from, whether it's Bedfordshire in England or it's Indiana in the United States, there is a craft history, a manufacturing history to uncover... you will find creativity, you will find something interesting happen." 9. On craft as universal: "I think it's something that is just common to humanity, but unfortunately not as common as it used to be." 10. It was around 7 pm on August 13, 1981, and 36-year-old Carol Morgan was working the till at her corner shop in a town called Leighton Buzzard in the county of Bedfordshire, England. This was a close knit community. Carol owned and ran the shop with her husband, Allen Morgan. Everyone in town knew and loved Carol, who was described by friends and family as warm, caring, genuine and friendly. Carol loved the shop, and the other lights of her life were her two children from a previous marriage. On that night, Carol was working at the shop alone, getting ready for closing, which was at 6pm. Her husband was at the movie theater in Luton with his two stepchildren. But at some point, someone surprised Carol. Allen and the children got home at around 10:10 pm. Shortly after arriving at the house, Allen raced to a neighbor’s house and asked him to come to the shop. The neighbor followed Allen into the storeroom and saw Carol in a pool of blood. Forensic testing revealed that Carol had been brutally beaten and stabbed with a weapon, something like an axe or a machete, something heavy but very sharp. She had been hit so hard that pieces of her skull and brain matter were on the floor. While it's been more than 5 years since Disney has opened up a brand new park in Shanghai, there is something to be said for the enormous transformation that has been underway for Disneyland Paris as a whole, and in particular, Disney Adventure World, formerly known as Walt Disney Studios Paris. Since Avengers Campus first opened, work has been spent on improving existing rides and shows, as well as creating whole new lands and attractions. Some 90% of the park's original offerings will have been redone, and its foot prints will be nearly doubled in size.
