Partners in life, love and art, dancer/choreographer Lauren Edson and musician/composer Andrew Stensaas founded the remarkable performance company LED in Boise, ID in 2015 and remain its co-leadersLauren, the company's artistic director, trained at UNCSA and Juilliard before dancing with the renowned dance company Trey McIntyre Projects for many years. Andrew, LED's creative director, is a self-taught musician and composer who played with two critically acclaimed bands — one in Portland, OR; the other in Boise, ID — before establishing himself as a teacher and composer/songwriter at Boise Rock School. Just five years after LED's founding, Dance Magazine included the company in its influential “25 to Watch” list, but it wouldn't be accurate to call LED a dance company. Instead, what Lauren and Andrew have created is a creative laboratory that accommodates each their artistic backgrounds and interests and challenges them to keep exploring, whether through live performance, film or community happenings and always with movement and music at the core. LED has performed in venues all over the Western US, and their most recent short film, “Waters into Wilderness,” screened at festivals all over the world including the prestigious San Francisco Dance Film Festival. In this interview with Pier Carlo Talenti, Lauren and Edson discuss how their distinct artistic personalities combined with their dedicated partnership to create the special sauce that keeps their young company nimble, inventive and exciting to the creative team and their audiences alike.https://www.ledboise.com/

Boise Rock School is gearing up to turn up the amps again in-person this summer, with some modifications. Idaho Matters checks-in with the nonprofit's co-founder and managing director.
This week as we remain in social-distancing and stay-at-home mode we wanted to touch base with a number of the amazing nonprofit organizations Storyfort and Treefort collaborate with. Amidst the lockdown and current state of the world our nonprofit friends have all had to pivot and rework their programming and outreach. So our team hopped on Zoom to check-in and see what's new. As well, and just as importantly, we wanted to give a further voice to nonprofits as the fundraising campaign Idaho Gives is reaching its peak. Idahogives.org generates hundreds of thousands of dollars for nonprofits in Idaho each year and in this episode we get a chance to talk with five organizations among the hundreds that Idaho Gives helps support. The Idaho Gives campaign ends on May 7, 2020. We talked with the Idaho Botanical Gardens, Lee Pesky Learning Center, Idaho Coservation League, Immigrant Justice Idaho, and Radio Boise. But, Storyfort and Treefort work with SO many other important nonprofits, The Cabin, Big Tree Arts, Treasure Valley Reads, Idaho Museum of International Diaspora, and Idaho Coalition Against Sexual and Domestic Voilence, just to mention a few. Other Treefort Nonprofit Partners: Boise Bicycle Project, B-AAMP, Snake River Alliance, Idaho Trails Association, Wasmuth Center, Boise Farmer's Market/Treasure Valley Food Coalition, Girl Scouts, Boise Rock School, Idaho Humane Society, Boise Public Library, ACLU, MING Studios, Idaho Public Television, Boise State Public Radio, Upward Inertia.Enjoy! Give! Be safe and well! The Boise Rock School has been teaching music and band-making principles since 2008. Now, the coronavirus has moved nearly 400 students online. That's significant when their programs are set up to feel like band practice, which is the way the school has found their students learn best.
Boise Rock School is celebrating its 10th anniversary this week with a party featuring performances from their rock star students. Rock professors Ryan Peck and Sergio Gonzales join Idaho Matters to talk about Idaho's coolest academy.

"I want to live in a world where I know that kids, especially teens, are given the ability to pursue and find their passions." Ryan Peck of Boise Rock School plays many instruments and wears many hats. Whether it's launching an organization dedicated to helping kids find their creative passions through music with Boise Rock School, or finding an all ages concert hall in Boise through the Boise All-Ages Movement Project, Ryan wants to unlock the inherent creative expression of our teenagers. Oh yeah, and he teaches biology at Boise State University. Jimmy sits down with Ryan to talk about the role music plays in enhancing a city's culture and inspiring the heck out of our teenagers. "If the kids are all right, the future's all right." Also, after the interview, Jimmy and Wyatt dissect who is cooler and what a city would be without music. Check out Boise Rock School on their website here or on Facebook and on Twitter. Follow the Boise All-Ages Movement Project on Facebook. Be sure to like We All Do Better on Facebook and tell us which instrument you want to play in the We All Do Better House Band.
