Annie Rodenfels is back on the podcast! Annie is one of the seven women we’re sending to the Half Marathon World Championships in Copenhagen, and I’m so excited to see her making this jump up in distance. Annie is a newbie to the half marathon. The U.S. Championships was actually her first half marathon! She’s known for being a steeplechaser and 5K runner, and she’s making the pivot to longer distances while still dabbling in the shorter distances as well. She’s definitely not done there. Annie is a D3 legend. She was a three-time national champion at Centre College, and after college she joined a pro team in Greenville, South Carolina, before eventually joining Team New Balance Boston. Now she’s training under Coach Julie Benson with the Meridian team and landed her first real-deal sponsorship with Salomon about a year ago. We talk about how meaningful it was for her to finally land that deal and what that support has meant for her career. She’s also a three-time champion of the New York Road Runners Abbott Dash to the Finish Line 5K, winning it in 2023, 2024, and 2025. We talk about her excellent half marathon debut at the U.S. Championships and, of course, the finish-line drama. Annie crossed the finish line third, but there was a whole situation with a group of women being taken off course, and she gives us the rundown on what actually happened. Now she’s getting ready to represent Team USA in Copenhagen, and there are definite plans to eventually pursue the marathon. It’s so exciting to see Annie move into these longer distances. Meridian Mining Plc (LSE:MNO, TSX:MNO, OTCQX:MRRDF) CEO Gilbert Clark spoke with Proactive's Stephen Gunnion about the company's plans to become a mid-tier copper-gold producer, with its Cabaçal project in Brazil central to that growth strategy. Clark said Meridian is approaching publication of the definitive feasibility study (DFS) for Cabaçal, with the focus on demonstrating the strength and longevity of the project's economics ahead of the next phase: project financing. The company has already started ordering long-lead equipment to lock in prices and bring forward the potential construction completion date. With around US$90 million in the bank, Meridian has also begun civil works, including access infrastructure upgrades, bridges, all-weather roads and power line construction. Securing the installation licence is another key milestone, which Clark said would effectively trigger the final investment decision. He also highlighted the potential at Santa Helena, where Meridian sees significant exploration and resource upside. Rather than a satellite open-pit operation, the company is permitting it as a potential second production hub: "If we get that PL granted and then go on to build a second producing hub there, that will take our throughput from 4.5 up to 5.7 million tonnes," Clark said. Beyond Cabaçal and Santa Helena, Clark discussed Meridian's wider exploration portfolio across three parallel VMS belts and its ambition to establish itself as a leading London-listed copper-gold stock. Their electronic pop sound, described as "equally quaint and unsettling," employs unconventional instruments and draws on stylistic influences such as krautrock, exotica, and dub. The group signed to Too Pure Records in 1993, where they released their debut LP The Stars Are So Big, The Earth Is So Small... Stay as You Are. They later signed to Domino. These hieroglyphic threats promised strangulation, mutilation, divine judgment, destroyed families, and even attacks by crocodiles and serpents against anyone who violated the dead.From there, 21-year-old Virginia Carpenter vanishes after arriving in Denton, Texas, on June 1, 1948, to attend the Texas State College for Women. Taxi driver Edgar Ray “Jack” Zachary said he left her outside Brackenridge Hall with two unidentified men beside a cream-colored convertible, but Carpenter never checked in, and later leads—including a possible Arkansas sighting and a 1998 burial-site tip—failed to solve the case.Next, the danger moves into space with asteroid 2024 YR4, theories about weaponized asteroid-deflection technology, Cixin Liu's “dark forest” view of hostile alien civilizations, and Fred Hoyle and Chandra Wickramasinghe's idea that viruses could arrive from space.
