I recently had a great interview with Sierra Katow! Taken from her bio: She first began performing standup at 16 and was the youngest comedian featured on season 9 of Last Comic Standing on NBC. Her standup was also featured on Last Call with Carson Daly, Laughs on Fox, and Acting Out on MTV. Her festival credits include the Seattle Int'l Comedy Competition, Boston Comedy Festival, the Women in Comedy Festival, the LA IO West Comedy Festival, the Comedy Comedy Festival, the Women In Comedy Festival, and the Funny Women Fest LA. She's currently writing for a new show on Eko and serves as producer of the podcast Queery with Cameron Esposito. In the past, she has worked as a writers' assistant for Drop the Mic on TBS and Take My Wife on Starz and served as VP of The Harvard Lampoon. In this interview we talk about Harvard computer science, the Harvard stand up club, being an Asian American woman in comedy, getting into coding, doing colleges, post college guilt, process of selling an animated short, getting into Laugh Factory, comedy end goals, festivals being over-hyped, morning rituals, and more.
Stand-up comic, actress and oft-time diversity consultant Atsuko Okatsuka joins us for a hilarious interview on her life growing up in LA, how her Japanese American teacher changed her name to Stacey and more. Be sure to check her out at the Comedy Comedy Festival on October 13 and her hour special on Hulu! Our apologies for the poor audio, we ran in to some technical difficulties but we hope you'll still enjoy this special show and look forward to having Atsuko back again to do things proper!
We discuss Michael Moore’s latest documentary Fahrenheit 11/9 with journalist, activist, and comedian Francesca Fiorentini. Francesca has been at SF Sketchfest and the Comedy Comedy Festival, and appears at clubs throughout California. She was the host and producer of Newsbroke, the political comedy web series for AJ+, so we’re stoked to talk about the looming influence of Michael Moore and the intersection of comedy and reporting. While the trailer for Fahrenheit 11/9 looks like an epic Donald Trump takedown, he's really only in it about a quarter of the film. Moore also takes on the media, the Electoral College, and the ongoing water crisis in his hometown of Flint, Mich. There are bright spots along the way like interviews with upcoming candidates in the midterms like Ocasio-Cortez and Rashida Tlaib, and a generational shift in the Parkland activists. It's in theaters now.Follow us on:Twitter: @supdocpodcastInstagram: @supdocpodcastFacebook: @supdocpodcastsign up for our mailing listAnd you can show your support to Sup Doc by donating on Patreon.

We have a very special episode of Saturday School this week, where we have guests! We recorded LIVE at the Comedy Comedy Festival earlier this year, and we invited director Michael Kang and his daughters Klee and Ryatt to talk about 1982's action comedy They Call Me Bruce? -- which was a pivotal film for the older Kang, who first saw the film when he was 12 and said it "changed his life." Kang remembers what it meant to see the Korean American Johnny Yune performing on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson and talks about what it was like showing the film to his daughters, knowing they wouldn't get many of the decades-old pop culture references. Not-so-spoiler alert: Klee and Ryatt got bored really fast and started messing around on the side, and we thought it was quite fitting that we forced the next generation to come to Saturday School and they didn't listen or learn anything. We, on the other hand, learned about the YouTube channel Klee is planning on starting! Saturday School is a podcast where we teach your unwilling children about Asian American pop culture history. First season will be about Asian American film comedies. 10 episodes will be released every Saturday at 8am, which is when we were forced to go to Chinese school as kids.
