In this new episode, Crawlspace Media's Tim Pilleri and Lance Reenstierna speak with reporter Stephanie Ramos about the murder of Leslie Preer from Washington D. C. in 2001. In 2001, Leslie Preer was found brutally murdered, her body left in the shower of her home in the wealthy suburbs of Washington, D.C. Investigators initially set their sights on Leslie's husband as the prime suspect — until bombshell DNA evidence revealed the presence of an "unknown male" at the scene. With extensive access to the original police tapes and interviews with the cold case detectives who worked to solve the crime, Blood and Water tells the story of a decades-long wait for justice for Leslie's daughter and the cutting-edge investigative techniques that finally caught the killer. Jose Ramos grew up the son of a cop, served in the military, and joined the NYPD to follow in his father's footsteps. In this episode of Locked In with Ian Bick, Jose breaks down how it all fell apart — from getting shot multiple times by a fellow officer he trained, to becoming corrupt, to spending 3 years in solitary confinement on Rikers Island before being sentenced to over 14 years in prison. He opens up about operating barbershops in his precinct, renting space to a drug dealer who eventually flipped and set him up, getting jammed up in the NYPD ticketing scandal, and the quota system nobody in the department wants to talk about. He also shares what it was really like surviving prison as a former cop — and how he found redemption on the other side. _____________________________________________ #NYPD #RikersIsland #policecorruption _____________________________________________ Thank you to INCOGNI for sponsoring this episode: Take back your personal data with Incogni! This month on Laura Flanders and Friends, we're revisiting conversations around work, workers, and the Labor Movement on the Move. This week we explore how workers and their allies are confronting authoritarianism—and building power from the ground up. This show is made possible by you! To become a sustaining member go to LauraFlanders.org/donate DESCRIPTION [Original Release Date July 9, 2025]: The United States is moving towards authoritarianism, but there is still a window of opportunity to reverse course. What could improve the chances of re-balancing power in the nation, and advancing towards that multiracial democracy that many still dream of? The answer is worker organizing, say Alex Han and Tarso Luís Ramos. "When we look at the history of U-turns from democratic backsliding to democratic revival, the success rate is about 50 percent," says Ramos. "Where there's active, vibrant union participation, the odds go up to about 80 percent." So what's holding Labor back? In early May of 2025, Laura sat down with Ramos and Han at a conference on “Labor in the Age of Authoritarian Politics”, held at the CUNY School of Labor and Urban Studies (SLU) in New York. Ramos is a leading expert on the U.S. Right Wing and former Executive Director of Political Research Associates. He now serves as Senior Advisor to Future Currents, a strategic planning group of social and economic justice leaders. Han has spent most of his adult life in the labor movement, as an organizer and elected president of a large Chicago local. In 2023, he became Executive Director of In These Times, the long-running Chicago-based progressive magazine. In the wake of mass layoffs and the abduction of Kilmar Abrego García, a union member wrongly exported to El Salvador and now held in Tennessee, can enough workers and their allies band together to make a difference? “I think of all of these times where I've shown up at a protest and I know every single person there. When that happens, I know we're not winning today.” - Alex Han “I think the coup that we did not prepare for was the force accelerator that most people experience as DOGE. It's the Musk and Peter Thiel and Marc Andreessen set of actors . . . They're interested in ringing the profits out of the public sector, and they're interested in accelerating the demise of civilian governance altogether.” - Tarso Luís Ramos Guests: Alex Han: Executive Director, In These Times Tarso Luís Ramos: Senior Adviser, Political Research Associates; Senior Fellow, Future Currents RESOURCES: - Watch the episode released on YouTube; PBS World Channel Sundays 11:30am ET, and on over 300 public stations across the country (check your listings, or search here via zipcode) and airing on community radio (check here to see if your station airs the show) & available as a podcast. In this episode of The Emergency Mind Podcast, I'm joined by Elvina Hewitt and Mena Ramos for a wide-ranging conversation about emergency medicine, healthcare innovation, AI, entrepreneurship, and what it means to build better systems from inside the reality of clinical work. All three of us came through Brown, spent time working in emergency care, and have since moved into different but overlapping worlds of healthcare technology, startups, education, and systems change. The conversation moves from the emergency department as society's safety net, to the personalities drawn to chaos and uncertainty, to the tension between visionary innovation and the constraints that shape real healthcare work.
What if the brain that made you feel like you never quite fit — the one that means you always carry 5 jobs even though technically you only have one, the brain that got bored the moment something stopped being challenging, and that saw the whole system when everyone else wanted you to stay in your lane — turned out to be exactly what the AI era needs? That's not a hypothetical. That's Noe Ramos. And it might just be you too. Noe is Vice President of AI Operations at Agiloft, where she leads the kind of AI transformation that actually works — not the kind that chases efficiency and calls it progress, but the kind that asks what humans need to thrive in a world increasingly shaped by these tools. Noe has spent 23 years being, in her own words, excellent at jobs that were never quite designed for her brain. And it wasn't until she found the right environment, understood her neurodivergence, and stopped filtering out the parts of herself that made her different that everything clicked. In this episode we talk self-awareness as a leadership tool, what it means to build a culture of genuine psychological safety, and why AI transformation is only as good as the humans at the center of it. What we cover: ⏹ 23 years being excellent at jobs never designed for her brain — and what changed ⏹ Systems thinking: what it really means, why women are discouraged from doing it, and how to keep doing it anyway ⏹ Finding the right environment — how Noe figured out what she actually needed and how to diagnose it in a company ⏹ Neurodivergence as a leadership superpower in the AI era ⏹ What authentic leadership really looks like when you've spent a career masking ⏹ Psychological safety: how showing up humanly as a leader creates a ripple effect through your whole team ⏹ Agiloft's human-first AI transformation approach — upskilling people existentially, not just technically ⏹ Role-based vs function-based thinking: why the shift matters for AI adoption ⏹ Visibility vs indispensability — and why being essential at the wrong level is a career trap ⏹ The worst piece of advice Noe was ever given — and the subtlety inside it ⏹ AI as a mirror: what are you bringing to the tool? **Useful links** Connect with today's guest and sponsor, Noe Ramos at Agiloft: ⏹ LinkedIn: linkedin.com/in/noeramos ⏹ Agiloft: agiloft.com Book a strategy call with Toni: tonicollis.com/lets-chat/ This episode was sponsored by our guest, Noe Ramos. OA1262 - How are a car accident in California, a tax fraud case in Nevada, and two bus accidents in New York and Pennsylvania all connected to the Dobbs abortion case? Find out on this week's accidental too-deep dive into state sovereignty. Jenessa read a bunch of extra cases just to be thorough, and accidentally uncovered Kavanaugh planting the seeds that would grow into the “egregiously wrong” “rule” for ignoring stare decisis. But also mostly we'll talk about the weird world of state sovereignty, Clarence Thomas being obnoxious and ahistorical while accusing everyone else of being ahistorical, and Sotomayor getting some peace for a change to write a pleasant little 9-0 decision about some non-partisan procedural legal nerdery that benefits injured plaintiffs.
