It finally has come to Eric and Ando talking about Instagram. Take about 5 minutes to watch the video clip in the links below to get a better understanding of what we are discussing today.   Audiences are more comfortable viewing and buying art via their phones than ever before. Why would there not be curators creating exhibitions with that interaction in mind? A trend of “MADE-FOR-INSTAGRAM” exhibitions are trying to change the way we engage with our traditional institutions. In this episode, Eric and Ando discuss two specific spaces. The Museum of Ice Cream in New York, and the Color Factory in San Francisco.     For more By The Way, follow us on Twitter @ByTheWay_ArtPod, Facebook @By The Way: A Contemporary Art News Podcast, and Instagram @cultural_bandwidth. Today we are terribly excited to bring you an actually well timed conversation, with the wonderful Jonas Liveröd. It's been a while coming, but it fits perfectly, because already on this Friday, April 20th, he has a solo show opening at the great Steinsland Berliner Gallery in Stockholm. So as awesome as the conversation we are about to play for you is, it's always better to go and see the work in real time and space, so if you are anywhere near Stockholm, then you should go see the show. As a bonus, you can have a chat with Jonas, who is really just a sweet and open hearted fellow, so that comes highly recommended as well. It's all good news from the Cultural Bandwidth headquarters today! I feel that Jonas needs no introduction, his work is excellent and lively, and we do a pretty good job of covering things in the talk. Thanks to Jeanette Steinsland for setting this up, and for all the support. Please enjoy our conversation with Jonas Liveröd!

This year’s World Happiness Report just came out and once again, all the Scandinavian countries are at the top of the list. The one I haven’t been to yet is Sweden, so today I am speaking with Eric Wall, an American artist living in Stockholm, to get his advice on the best things to see and do in Sweden’s capital city.  Stockholm is actually made up of 14 islands, and Gamla Stan, its old town, is one of Europe’s best preserved medieval historic centers. Eric and I talk all about the delicious baked goods you must try, the museums you can’t miss, and other ideas to make your trip to Stockholm a great one.  Eric hosts the podcast By The Way: A Contemporary Art News Podcast, and co-founded Cultural Bandwidth, a podcast network about art, so of course we’ll share where to find the best art when visiting Stockholm.  Find links to places we discuss in this episode at postcardacademy.co If you enjoy this episode, please subscribe and forward this show to a friend. If you’re feeling especially kind, please leave a review on Apple Podcasts. Is the Contemporary art world growing or shrinking? Are there more or less opportunities for artists today than in past decades? What is the future gallery model? In this episode Eric and Ando talk about the mega-art dealer David Zwirner's expanding global empire. And how over recent years the mid-level galleries have been closing their doors. The closure of these mid-level galleries have often been due to poor finances, high operating costs, art fair expenses, and lack of new risk-taking collectors. New models are emerging to combat some of these pressures, but will any of them sustain? We also call attention to spaces like TEGN: Art-space (DK), Nordic Stories (SWE), The 14th Factory (US), and Condo (US). Thanks for listening to By The Way. How could we not talk about this most recent Christie’s contemporary art auction? The record breaking painting "by" Leonardo da Vinci titled Salvator Mundi sold for $450,312,500. We aren’t talking about the obvious talking points, instead we go deeper into the painting’s history. It all plays out like Dan Brown novel. Yes, the guy who used to own Salvator Mundi was imprisoned in the 1990’s for contract killing of a rival. Pressure from outside the art world, threats of violence, and an online petition nearing a million people have compelled the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York to remove several artworks from an exhibition. Art and China after 1989: Theater of the World is the title of the exhibition. The cause of the firestorm came when animal rights activists, such as Peta became aware of 3 art works.  These 3 works could be misunderstood as cruel to animals. Eric and Ando unpack this story, and in the process will most likely offend a few listeners. So let us know if they are missing the point on this episode of By The Way.   If you enjoy our podcast please consider becoming a patreon and support us on our Patreon page.   For more By The Way, follow us on Twitter @ByTheWay_ArtPod, Facebook @By The Way: A Contemporary Art News Podcast, and Instagram @cultural_bandwidth. Well dOCUMENTA happened to pop up again in the news for this episode. Ando actually heard about this story too!   One of the most prestigious art exhibitions, dOCUMENTA (15) is on the brink of bankruptcy. We try to unravel how that could have happened. Who is to blame? The curators, a local politician, and poor management. The future of dOCUMENTA is now threatened. A bit of change up on this episode of By The Way, as Eric and Ando talk about Sam Durant’s sculpture titled Scaffold. Originally created by Sam Durant for dOCUMENTA (13) in Kassel, Germany, the work has since been purchased by the Walker Art Center, USA. The story does not end there.
