They talk about making a living off their creativity, about process, and about any other topic which might spring up. The show is based in Copenhagen, the discussion is world wide.

After a longer pause we are back with a fantastic conversation the artist Nathan Gulick, visiting town from LA for his solo show, Waiting Room, at C4 Projects. We met and had a live recording at C4, and it was both a lot of fun and very interesting. Nathan is eloquent and engaged, and we got a great podcast out of it. Please enjoy and be sure to check out the installation images from the exhibition.

And we are back! Thanks for hanging in there. Today we have a conversation we've been really excited to share with you, with the artist FOS, also known by his government name of Thomas Poulsen. This talk was recorded during the summer when he had a quite ambitious show up at Gallery Nils Stærk here in Copenhagen, and it turned out to be a really fun one. He is one of the guest who was both really easy and really interesting to speak with, and this is a great combination when you are talking about very engaging and expansive exhibition to begin with. We had a good long talk about many subjects, please enjoy.

The warm months have fully settled upon the land, and with every Danish summer comes the yearly tradition of Roskilde Festival, one of the world's largest music festivals. Around 130,000 people attend the festival, which is run by a non-profit organization. For many years now they have also had a surprisingly ambitious art zone during the festival, with running themes and critical commentary on social and political issues. This year, for example they built four one-to-one replicas of the proposed wall types for the donald's anti-cooties barrier between Mexico and the US. We spoke with the head curator, Mette Woller, and three of the exhibiting artists, Jillian Mayer, Oskar Koliander, and previous guest of the program, Lilibeth Cuenca Rasmussen. It was nice to see a large festival working on promoting critical and contemporary art, and we are already looking forward to next years program. She is an exceptionally hard working artist, with tons of projects always in the works as well has her own production, and she somehow gets it all done. She is a serial collaborator, exhibition space leader and cultural front runner, and we have the pleasure of hearing about it. Our talk is also fascinating because she talks a lot about her doubts, thoughts and dreams about her total practice, and goddamn it, if that isn't what this show is for, then what is it for? Enjoy!

We are back again today with another super interesting talk, with the artist group Mathias & Mathias. They had a show up at Overgaden a little while back, and we were fortunate enough to have the chance to sit down and talk to them. It was a great conversation, touching on many topics, with a lot of behind the scenes talk, which is always interesting. It's good to hear from working artists what their experiences are in the art world, and that always leads into a discussion about their work. They are a group you should keep an eye on, they have a lot of interesting projects in the pipeline. And they are also gentlemen, which also such a nice thing to find out here in these mean streets. So with no further ado, enjoy our talk with Mathias & Mathias!

It's been a while coming, but it fits perfectly, because already on this Friday, April 20th, he has a solo show opening at the great Steinsland Berliner Gallery in Stockholm. So as awesome as the conversation we are about to play for you is, it's always better to go and see the work in real time and space, so if you are anywhere near Stockholm, then you should go see the show. As a bonus, you can have a chat with Jonas, who is really just a sweet and open hearted fellow, so that comes highly recommended as well. It's all good news from the Cultural Bandwidth headquarters today! I feel that Jonas needs no introduction, his work is excellent and lively, and we do a pretty good job of covering things in the talk. Thanks to Jeanette Steinsland for setting this up, and for all the support. Please enjoy our conversation with Jonas Liveröd!

And just last week they won the British Journal of Photography International Photography Award for their new project, The Merge. We had a very interesting conversation together not only about their projects, but also about the role of ego in photography, authorship, research, fundraising, and giving up your individuality to strengthen a group. This is a long one, but only because there was so much good stuff in there. Check out their book, Phenomina, we can't recommend it enough, and keep and eye on their new project as it develops.

When you talk process with an artist, many similarities between practices begin to pop up over time, but there are also those occasions where you hear about more independent ways of working and thinking. Todays conversation with Johan Furåker is of that ilk, one of the ones which are quite inspiring. He's a thoughtful artist, and methodical, and if you look at his work, you can see that his way of producing is certainly working well. There is a balance to doing your homework, research and inspirational legwork, yet keeping a sense of mystery, happy accident and experimentation in your practice, and I think Johan is one of the people who have been on this program who exemplifies that best. Please enjoy this talk with Johan Furåker.

In the middle of significant personal and political chaos we are so very proud to bring to you today a wonderful conversation with Ditte Ejlerskov recorded a couple of months ago. Talking to her was a reminder of so many important things one must hold dear as an artist; choosing the harder path at times, about trust in yourself and your relationship to your practice, the value of plain old hardheadedness. As humans we walk a fine line in balancing everything, and as artists' it is essential. We must remember this, it is imperative, if for nothing else then for our own contentedness. Ditte has a big show up at Kristiansand Kunsthal in Norway called The Muse, which looks amazing, so if you are in that part of the world then be sure to check it out. One of the great things about making this show is the wide variation in experiences and interests we get to hear from the guests. After talking with Nanna last time, we have a completely different type of artist on the show today, with a very different kind of story. It's nice, because as artists, you slowly start to realize that there isn't a single way forward, or a rule, or a technique to“make it”. So in that spirit, we have Todd James on the show today. Todd is a really interesting artist, because he has been able to straddle so many different worlds throughout his career, and that is something a lot of people are afraid of doing, perhaps feeling that it would somehow dilute what they do, or confuse an audience. Todd doesn't seem to have that fear. His credits are many, his skill plentiful, so let's just get straight to our talk with him. Enjoy!

Welcome back, and happy New Year to all! We have a great artist and incredibly sweet human on the show today; Nanna Debois Buhl. I have gotten to know her a bit over the last year or so and the more I hear about what she does, and how she does it, the more I fall in love with her work. It's thoughtful, well-researched and also very tactile, which I find to be a rare combination today. Often it's hard for artists to lean equally on research and material when creating projects, and it's something I think a lot about it terms of my own work. And so those are the themes of the conversation today, and I think you'll find it really interesting. She also currently has works up in two different exhibitions, check below for links to those and other cool stuff. She is open hearted and very generous in the way she talks about her process, so let's get straight to it. Enjoy!

We were lucky enough to have the chance to sit down with Gillian to talk both about the sculpture she made about this danish family, and about her work in general. You are indubitably familiar with her work, she is quite well known, both as a YBA - the young british artists, and for her work since. She was awesome to talk to, and she keeps the game of being an artist to it's bare basics, and we mean that positively. There isn't a lot of extraneous material around her work and practices, and it's a pleasure to talk to the people who's work is dictated by a relationship to their materials and their drive to move said work forward. These are practitioners who dedicate themselves to the process of making, and view their work in the long term. And to put it simply, it's refreshing, and not at all a disadvantage.

They have a really interesting practice, but in certain cases a lot of artists put all their efforts into the works, and have very little to say about them after the fact. They don't necessarily obscure the meaning of the works and that makes the for a conversation of directly with the works and not the artists. One could perhaps say that one of the complaints often leveled against the art world is it's, correct or not, perceived separation from other spheres of life and society. Talking to Lena really highlighted for us some of the opportunities available for those looking for interdisciplinary collaborations outside of the usual boundaries of their craft. I spent a lot of this talk looking for her to define which work she walks in, but the truth is that it really is several. We've been fans of his special world for a number of years now, and finally had the chance to sit down with him and hear about it. All we can say is that some people just have a personal vision, and there is no school or mentors needed to help them along. Just get out of the way! He has a very special way of thinking, a combination of thoughtful and un-serious at the same time, which is very much reflected in his work, and really helps it be unique. He has a show up at Nils Stærk gallery which opened last friday, and we strongly suggest you go and see it. It's called cold animals, and it's open until the 17th of December. How about that? Enjoy! www.undergang.net

This week we have a man who's production exists outside of any single plane of work, it's Cali Thornhill Dewitt y'all. He has run an independent record label, he makes clothes, worked as a nanny for Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love, and of course, is an artist in his own right. He's a hard guy to pin down, and he's a very thoughtful man, so it was a pleasure to hear about his work in all of it's forms and the reasoning behind it in his own words. We were indeed lucky enough to get a hold of him last week to talk about his new show, 29 Flags, which is currently hanging at Eighteen, the new sister gallery of our friends at V1 Gallery. it's a heavy show, and it's most certainly worth going to visit, especially because photos can't do the install justice. We suggest you go on a quiet day and stand among the works he has made. Enjoy our talk! www.undergang.net

The guest on today's episode is somebody we've heard a lot about throughout the years, but through our own intellectual laziness had not seen much work by. We can only assume you, dear listener, have been smarter and more on top of it than we have because Rasmus Høj Mygind has been out there getting good work done, helping run the exhibition space Toves and advancing Danish arts for all of us. The fact that we were completely in the dark is humbling, and the big personal lesson here is to pay better attention and remember to ask the bigger questions. It's a problem which is fairly acute in the art world, and there is always the risk of compartmentalizing your own experience in an already small art world. So thanks to Rasmus for inadvertently reminding us of that, his practice is very much worth looking into. He has shown work many different places and he joins us today to talk about his work, crazy websites and about working in and out of the studio. Enjoy! www.undergang.net

Hello friends, is everybody enjoying this late summer weather in Copenhagen, making sure to talk with strangers about it? Today we are joined by the poet, translator and artist extraordinaire Morten Søndergaard. We had a relaxing sit down on a beautiful deck on a sunny day at the Louisiana Museum here in Denmark, looking out over the water, listening to the waves, watching people swim, and talked about words, art and life. It was glorious. He is an poet/artist who is relentlessly searching for new paths for his work, and isn't held down by format along the way. If you don't know his work then you are in for a real treat, it is word based, but in reality so much more with his constant practice of moving words from the page and out into the world. It's fascinating stuff really. We'll leave the rest up to him, please enjoy the chat with Morten Søndergaard! www.undergang.net

The inaugural edition of the CODE Art Fair was this last week weekend, and we were there with a booth in order to meet the art going public and having some talks with folks working at the fair. It was certainly a mixed result in many ways, but not without it's successes. Our guess is that many who were there could say the same thing. CODE is ambitious, and it was interesting to see all the new faces there, and it's always good to see all that art. Today on the program we have two talks we recorded with some new friends, Martina Tosi and Steven Cox. Martina came by to talk about Cinnamon Gallery, a fairly new space from Rotterdam, which was here in Copenhagen for the first time and Steven is a painter, writer and proprietor of a online space you are going to love which is called Hunted Projects. Join us to hear about what it's like to start a new gallery from scratch, impressions from CODE and about audience engagement. www.undergang.net

Hello team, we hope you guys had a good summer. We'd like to thank you for your patience while we've been getting our shit together after a long and discombobulating summer. So many exciting things happening, just have to get everything in the right order. We have two items of good news to discuss today, and the first one is todays guest, Søren Behncke aka Papfar. We have been woefully ignorant of his work until recently, but when we finally were introduced to his practice we were simply blown away. He's been working hard for over 15 years on his strange, funny and beautiful universe, and it was a real pleasure to dive in. He recently released a book which functions as a type of mid-career retrospective, Sorry No Image Available, and it's nothing short of enlightening. We strongly recommend it, you can follow the links below to pick that up. Don't remain as ignorant as us. The other piece of news is that we will have a large booth at the brand new CODE Art Fair here in Copenhagen, which jumps off already next week, from August 26th-28th. We'll be there talking our usual shit, showing some artwork, live streaming and otherwise being a public nuisance. Be sure to come and check it out. Don't forget also to check out the beautiful CHART Art Fair at Charlottenborg and Photo Collect at Museumsbygning. Look at Copenhagen, all grown up with three art fairs! Enjoy! www.undergang.net

Welcome to episode 83, featuring the first Danish director to sit in the armchair, the extraordinarily thoughtful Andreas Dalsgaard. He has made quite a few films in a pretty short amount of time (he's also a hard worker) and caught our attention with his most recent, Life Is Sacred. He has a rare capacity for people and an inquisitive nature which he uses to try to meet the subjects of his films with humility and respect, and it shows in his works. He came in for the earliest talk we've had yet, and shared his thoughts on film school, using film language and applying it to real life and about how the process defines the style. He also tells us about his newest project, which sounds jaw dropping and we can't wait to see. Enjoy! www.undergang.net

Hello friends, welcome back to the second part of our talk with the scintillating Anders Reventlov. We bring it all home here in the second half, and this talk is chock full of pertinent information for young artists, all artists really. There is a lot of worthwhile conversation about some pretty burning issues in the art world today and issues it might be important to think about as practicing artists. We are going to hear about the exhibition space he started, the thoughts behind (it's not what you think) and about the slow evolution of his own thoughts on his work. It can be glacial, but the rewards are sweet. You'll also hear about the journey of context, the books which changed everything, and why you have to do what feels wrong. Greetings gang, here we are back again. In the midst of some upheaval and expansion, we bring you part one of our stellar talk with Anders Reventlov. He is the perfect guest for times of change, and he's the first one ever we've met through the show itself. He is an unusually engaged fellow (and we meet a lot of engaged people) and since meeting him we've found he is a talented artist as well. He has a really interesting story, he works harder than just about anybody we've met, and he seems to retain an unflaggingly positive attitude throughout. He's a teacher, he runs and independent art space, he's a father, an artist, he does just about everything. But we'll let him tell you the rest of the story, such as growing up painting Warhammer figures, getting harassed in the conservative graffiti world and being traumatized by art teachers. Ando also has a little announcement about the show. Enjoy! www.undergang.net

Alright gang, welcome to episode 80. Today we are presenting some of the conversations we had during the 1000 Books Art Book Festival which was at Charlottenborg about a week and a half ago, even if we did promise that we would never cover a festival again. Never say never right? We spoke to a handful of folks, from the organizers to some of the exhibiting artists and on to the publishers. It was a fun and challenging event, and we got a wide range of opinions on the current status of independent book publishing and what the future might hold. We spoke with Flemming Ove Bech, Erik Steinbrecher, Christian Aschman, Bruno Ceschel (Self Publish Be Happy) and Åse Eg Jørgensen (Pist Protta), so there is something for everyone. We recommend that you take a look at some of the images from the show beforehand in order to contextualize the conversations and afterwards that you check out the site for the festival with the list and links for all the publishers. www.undergang.net

We couldn't be more excited to bring you this talk with Esmeralda Kosmatopoulos and Sean Naftel today. They are the masterminds behind the show, Mastering The Art of Contemporary Art, which just had it's run here in Denmark at Aarhus Kunsthal, and it's simply fantastic. They created a TV Kitchen in the space, invited a row of artists on, and produced a series of performances where artists presented “recipes” for creating art. The audience was invited to create works from the recipes, and those works were exhibited as well. Amazing. The whole thing has a new life online, where it lives on as a tv show, an archive for the show, and a rock solid presentation of the exhibition. It's well worth the look. They took the time to sit down with us and talk about the process the project was conceived under, the serendipity it took, and about how far you can get with just 500 words and a mood board. This is one of our best shows ever guys.

We have a fantastic show for you today, with the great Albert Elm here to talk. We've know Albert for a bit, but didn't really get to know him until we sat down and had this conversation, and man, it turned out great. He worked for several years for our friend and former guest of the show, Jacob Aue Sobol, while he developed his craft as a photographer, and has since published a book and had his work shown all over. He's a secretive fellow, so we hadn't seen his work until fairly recently, and if you haven't yet either, you are in for a treat. It doesn't come as a surprise that he has been published on a ton of sites and has been named as a talent to look out for by the British Journal of Photography. We had a deep conversation about his work and philosophy of photography, and it's quite relevant for anybody who is thinking about how to define their own art. We also touched on his stint as a sailor, about working for other photographers and the illusion of photography as truth. Join Us.

We are happy to say that today we have our first conversation with an art collector on the show, yes sir, the great Jens Peter Brask came by. We have been wanting to talk to collectors for a long time now, because they serve an integral part of any art scene out there. Feel how you may about the idea of selling art, but it's been a part of art since nearly time immemorial, and we are fascinated with hear what people have to say. We got to talk about how and why he collects work, about his relationships to artists (and other collectors), and about his love of graffiti. We also got to hear a little about his book, Brask Studio Visit, and other projects coming down the pipeline. Join us!

Peter Callesen works in many media, but he is mostly know for his works with paper. It feels wrong to label his work as paper cuts, but that is undeniably the tradition it rises from. But it's so much more. There is a delicacy, emotion and weight to his works which are made all the much more incredible by the materials he uses, namely plain white A4 paper. The thing that always wins us over is the combination of technique together with emotion and expression in works. If you can make it exquisite, beautiful and precious, and then with a sound foundation of idea or emotion to carry it, well it's rare we won't be a huge fan.

We are continuing our run of the movers and shakers in the art world, and we are happy to share our conversation with Merete Jankowski, the director of Overgaden Institute of Contemporary Art with you. As far as we are concerned, someone like Merete makes the best kind of institute director out there. She is consistently anti-careerist, she is a soldier in service of art and she isn't afraid to try new things. All this adds up to a fascinating talk, and a good insight into one of the great art institutions here in Copenhagen. Overgaden is a historical place, and it is famous for being a safe haven for artists to experiment, and we can honestly say that nobody has a profile like they do.
