Wesam is back with another hilarious episode of Wesam's World Podcast #332! This week, producer Alex joins him in the studio—Peyton makes a brief appearance but quickly taps out (shoutout to late-night work shifts). The episode kicks off with Wesam trying out some ice globes on camera because, let's face it—getting older is just a slow march toward death, and the under-eye circles don't lie. From there, the two dive into some wild and relatable topics: Wesam's dad falling for AI-generated stories, what the perfect cozy day looks like, and what it actually takes to break into the entertainment industry. Plus, some fresh industry news and insider tips from two people who've been in the game for years. Settle in and take a peek behind the curtain with real talk, laughs, and a bit of under-eye skincare. The post Aging Is Just Slow-Motion Dying appeared first on idobi.
Rachel and Simon speak to the novelist and non-fiction writer Dani Shapiro. Dani is the author of 11 books; her memoirs include "Slow Motion", "Devotion", "Still Writing" and "Hourglass". "Inheritance", about the secret that had been hidden from Dani by her parents for more than 50 years, was a bestseller. Dani has also written novels including "Black & White", "Family History" and "Signal Fires"; the latter was named a best book of 2022 by NPR, Time magazine and the Washington Post, among others. Alongside writing, Dani hosts a podcast, "Family Secrets", and teaches writing workshops around the world. We spoke to Dani about her celebrated early memoir, "Slow Motion", about moving between fiction and writing about her own life, and about "Inheritance", an investigation into her parentage. What does The Matrix tell us about the brain and time perception? And what does that have to do with champion bicyclists, hidden data, elementary particles, secret murderers, or time machines? Today’s episode is about slow motion: what’s going on in the brain, and why we are so mesmerized by it. Whether watching a sword battle, basketball dunk, or sprinters, we're pulled to slow motion like moths to flame... but have you ever wondered from a neuroscience perspective what that’s all about? Me too, and hence today’s 100th weekiversary episode.

Welcome to another episode of Death Don't Do Fiction, the AIPT Movies podcast! The podcast about the enduring legacy of our favorite movies! This February we're celebrating “Dreddruary,” where we cover movies based on the British comic book character, Judge Dredd! In this week's episode, Alex, Tim, and Matt discuss Karl Urban's 2012 dark dystopian action massacre, Dredd!Impressive use of a low budget! A near-future that seems (unfortunately) believable! Quick and effective world-building! Really cool helmets! A very dangerous atrium! A simple, contained story inspired by the action classic, The Raid! A surprisingly stripped-down comic book movie, especially when compared with modern examples! Absolutely brutal slow motion violence! Absurdly large buildings! A solid cast that includes Olivia Thirlby, Wood Harris, Harry Potter's Domhnall Gleeson with blue cyber eyes, an uncomfortably cruel Lena Headey, and the lower half of Karl Urban's face doing some of the greatest frown-acting you've ever seen! A movie based on a British comic book about America, starring European people doing American accents, which may also secretly be the first movie directed by Civil War's Alex Garland! In addition, Alex shares his spoiler-free thoughts on The Wolf of Snow Hollow, the new Valentine's Day-themed slasher, Heart Eyes, and the genre-bending thriller Companion! You can find Death Don't Do Fiction on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you get your podcasts. As always, if you enjoy the podcast, be sure to leave us a positive rating, subscribe to the show, and tell your friends! The Death Don't Do Fiction podcast brings you the latest in movie news, reviews, and more! Hosted by supposed “industry vets,” Alex Harris, Tim Gardiner, and Matt Paul, the show gives you a peek behind the scenes from three filmmakers with oddly nonexistent filmographies. You can find Alex on Twitter, Bluesky, or Letterboxd @actionharris. Matt is a terrific artist that you can find on Instagram @no_wheres_ville. Tim can't be found on social media because he doesn't exist. If you have any questions or suggestions for the Death Don't Do Fiction crew, they can be reached at aiptmoviespod@gmail.com, or you can find them on Twitter or Instagram @aiptmoviespod.Theme song is “We Got it Goin On” by Cobra Man.

At the height of World War II, Henry Morgenthau, treasury secretary under President Franklin D. Roosevelt, proposed a plan to deliberately deindustrialization, depopulate, and disarm postwar Germany. The Morgenthau Plan, as it was known, would transition Germany back to an agrarian society, making the prospect of future war unimaginable. Although Morgenthau's ideas would never see the light of day, now, more than 80 years later, Europe's powerhouse is poised to embrace this grim reality. “Germany represents the powerhouse, traditionally, of the European economy, and even culture, and it's starting to implode,” warns Victor Davis Hanson in this edition of “Victor Davis Hanson: In His Own Words.” “They only have about 125 attack aircraft. They have very few armored vehicles. Their active military is only about 180,000 soldiers. They have 84 million people in the country. The fertility rate is getting very close to 1.4. … “They have had a million to 2 million illegal aliens just prance into Germany, especially during the last years of the Merkel chancellorship. In terms of percentage of foreign-born, Germany has more foreign-born than does the United States, which doesn't have a border in the south, at least until Donald Trump comes in.” For Victor's latest thoughts, go to: https://victorhanson.com/ Don't miss out on Victor's latest videos by subscribing to The Daily Signal today. My guest today is the bestselling writer Dani Shapiro. Dani is best known for the memoirs that made her name. Startlingly honest works of self-investigation like Slow Motion, in which she examines the questionable decisions her younger self made (let's face it, whose younger self didn't?). And the book that catapulted her to the top of the bestseller lists, Inheritance. In Inheritance, Dani explored the impact of taking a DNA test - just for fun! - in her mid 50s only to discover that her beloved dad was not actually her biological father. That book led to the top 10 podcast, Family Secrets featuring guests who have uncovered life altering secrets. It was unlocking those family secrets that enabled Dani to write her first novel in 15 years, Signal Fires, a bestseller since the day it was published in the states last year and praised by, my fave Jamie Lee Curtis, amongst others. It looks at what happens when one tragic mistake changes a whole family's lives. Dani joined me from the East coast of America to discuss how it feels to discover that you are your family's secret, her allergy to Empty Nest Syndrome and why there should be a handbook for middle age. We talked about coming into your full potential at 60, "losing your looks" when you've been told they're your currency and learning to count ordinary blessings. Listen to Family Secrets here. * You can buy all the books mentioned in this podcast at The Shift bookshop on Bookshop.org, including Signal Fires by Dani Shapiro and the book that inspired this podcast, The Shift: how I lost and found myself after 40 - and you can too, by me. * If you enjoyed this episode and you fancy buying me a coffee, pop over to my page on buymeacoffee.com. • And if you'd like to support the work that goes into making this podcast and get a weekly newsletter plus loads more content including exclusive transcripts of the podcast, why not join The Shift community, come and have a look around at www.theshiftwithsambaker.substack.com • The Shift (on life after 40) with Sam Baker is created and hosted by Sam Baker and edited by Emily Sandford. If you're interested in learning more about how mindset coaching and hypnotherapy can help you get unstuck from the proverbial bunker of poor performance on the course and in your business, click here to schedule a coaching discovery call with me. Key Points: Simplifying the short game involves managing expectations and focusing on technique. Many golfers have unrealistic expectations based on professional highlights. The yips can stem from both physical flaws and mental fears. Proper grip and setup are crucial for successful putting. Club-focused instruction aligns with how the brain learns motor skills. Slow motion practice can help identify and correct swing issues. Strategic pauses in the swing can prevent manipulation of the club. Becoming a scratch golfer requires significant time and dedication. Coaching should prioritize understanding the person behind the golfer. Key Quotes: “I believe that the improvement you make and the goals you achieve in golf will reflect the time and effort you commit to the game.” “Focus on what you want to do as opposed to what you fear might happen.” “The difference between a scratch golfer and others is the amount of time they spend playing and practicing the game.” “Most players have too high of expectations, thinking they should make all their putts within 10 feet or hit it close with a wedge every time. Tempering expectations reduces stress and allows you to play more freely.” “Slow-motion swings can help you identify whether you're executing correctly. In golf, where precision matters, slowing down can make all the difference in building a repeatable and effective swing.” Subscribe to the More Pars Than Bogeys Newsletter. We're getting candid in our interview with Jonah Marais. Jonah Marais is a pop singer who got his start in the boy band Why Don't We in 2016. The band reached massive career milestones over six years before announcing their hiatus in 2022. Now, Jonah is setting out on his own path as a solo artist, with a debut EP and a solo tour already under his belt and more new music on the way. This next single “Slow Motion” comes out November 15. We talk to Jonah about finding his identity as a solo artist outside of Why Don't We, the strong relationship he has with his fans, and why it's so important to him to make the world a better place through his music.
