Prepare to be blown away by two of the most talented and inspiring musicians to grace our studio. Al Vasquez, a master percussionist and vocalist, joined forces with the legendary Bill Edwards on guitar. Despite some minor technical difficulties at the start, their raw talent and passion shone through in every note. As I sat there, surrounded by the electric energy of their live performance, I felt like I was transported into a recording studio. Their musical chemistry was undeniable, and I was honored to witness it firsthand. But enough from me, let their music speak for itself as you listen to the show. Al will be gracing our local venues soon, so mark your calendars. On December 28, catch his quartet at Davis Wine Bar. And on January 25, don't miss his performance at the Winters Opera House alongside the incredible Dave Nachmanoff. Don't miss this opportunity to experience pure musical talent at its finest. Trust me, this hour will be a gift to your senses. So be swept away by the captivating performances you will witness.

When you hear about the music of a guitar virtuoso with a doctorate in philosophy, who cut his musical teeth performing and collaborating with singer-songwriter Al Stewart (“Year of the Cat”), you know you will be getting something wonderfully unique. In a career that has spanned a dozen albums and thousands of shows ranging from living room concerts to the Royal Albert Hall in London, Dave Nachmanoff has built a broad and loyal fan base and a unique niche as a performer and songwriter.Touring, accompanying, and recording with his songwriting hero, Al Stewart, for over 15 years gave Dave the chance to get his own music out in front of tens of thousands of people and gained him international exposure and recognition. Over the years, he has shared the stage with a long list of legends of the folk and rock music worlds, including the likes of Alison Krauss, Steve Forbert, Firefall, John Wesley Harding, and blues legend Libba “Freight Train” Cotten (when he was ten years old). Dave continues to record and tour, playing well over a hundred shows a year in listening rooms, private house concerts, and at other events. He is focused on using his music to make a difference in the world and benefit concerts are an important part of that.Dave's album, “Cerulean Sky”, was recorded with Grammy-nominated producer-engineer Bill Smith, who has worked with Frank Sinatra, Paul Simon, and Yes, among others. The Cerulean Sky studio band included Michael Jerome and Taras Prodaniuk (Richard Thompson's rhythm section), and Carl Byron on keyboards (Jackson Browne, Hot Club of LA). Dave's writing has strengthened over the decades and many fans are calling the songs on “Cerulean Sky,” his best yet. When not on tour, Dave is busy producing for other artists, teaching master classes around the US and working in his unique niche of writing and recording custom songs.More information about Dave and friends mentioned in this episode is just a click away...Dave Nachmanoff WebsiteDave Nachmanoff Facebook https://www.bandsintown.com/a/205935"Must Love Dogs" Music Videohttps://twitter.com/davenachSome of Dave's friends and music colleagues:Al StewartMichael McNevinElizabeth CottonLate for the Train - Dave Pascoe and Laura BensonPete HamiltonTim RenwickPeter White
Al Stewart came to stardom as part of the legendary British folk revival in the sixties and seventies and developed the combination of folk-rock songs with delicately woven tales of the great characters and events from history. He has 19 studio albums between “Bedsitter Images” in 1967 and “Sparks of Ancient Light” in 2008, plus the live album "Uncorked" with Dave Nachmanoff in 2009. He is perhaps best known for his hits ‘Year of the Cat” from the Platinum album of the same name and the Platinum follow up album “Time Passages.” But his career spans four decades as a key figure in British music. He played at the first ever Glastonbury Festival in 1970, worked with Yoko Ono pre-Lennon and shared a London apartment with a young Paul Simon.
Dave is a consummate craftsman in the acoustic singer-songwriter vein, but with the added bonus that he's an amazing guitar player, who for 15 years or so has acted as sideman for '70s Brit-legend Al Stewart, i.e., filling in the entirety of the musical palette apart from Al's singing and strumming. And Dave has a philosophy Ph.D., and put that to use in crafting his most recent album Spinoza's Dream (2016), where each song reflects a particular philosopher. We talk about the title track from that album, plus two songs from Step Up (2011): "Sheila Won't Be Coming Home" (a duet with Al Stewart) and "Descartes in Amsterdam" (originally written and recorded in 1997). We finish by listening to "All Good" from the new album. The opening music is Dave's instrumental version of Al's hit "Year of the Cat" from Wordless Rhymes (2005). Learn more at davenachmanoff.com.
