Who is the best Muppet to write a book with? What would be the best existing story to create a Muppet movie from that you'd like to be the featured human in? What would be the best Disney restaurant to eat dinner at with Miss Piggy? What would be the best song for the Electric Mayhem to perform for a new Rock ‘n' Rollercoaster?
Why are there so many songs....in the Muppets catalog?! This episode nearly did us in, but we made it through a mountain of research to bring you only the finest of Muppets musical history. We're zeroing in on Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem, the Muppets' very own in-house band. We track their real history as part of Jim Henson's wacky television experiment and their Muppet-verse history as presented in the 2023 "Muppets Mayhem" TV series. We get an emergency call from Shawn's pal Clayton Smith who is in the middle of a surprisingly-related predicament!

In this episode of Prisoners of Rock and Roll, we're cranking up the volume on some of the greatest fictional bands from movies and television shows. Groups that were born on the screen and sometimes even crossed over on the real music charts. From the pop sound of Monkees and the Partridge Family, the wild and funky vibes of Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem, and the turned up to 11 metal of Spinal Tap, some of these bands may have started out as make believe but they rocked out so much that they blurred the lines between entertainment and reality. So go put on your Gem t shirt or make a note to yourself that its time to rewatch the Blues Brothers. Let's hit i Episode Playlists Check out our episode playlist here. The 365 Days of Astronomy, the daily podcast of the International Year of Astronomy 2009
Recorded 21 March 2024. The TRAPPIST-1 planetary system has fascinated both scientists and the public since the discovery of the last five of its seven terrestrial worlds in 2017. With four of those planets in the so-called habitable zone, where water can be liquid, the system has become a favorite target of ground- and space-based telescopes alike, especially with regard to the potential for harboring life. However, TRAPPIST-1 is a red dwarf star, cooler and smaller than our own Sun, leading to concerns about the ability of these tidally locked worlds to develop and maintain their own atmospheres. Now, in new research published in The Astrophysical Journal, a team of researchers has discovered that TRAPPIST-1e's atmosphere is being stripped by strong electric currents, quashing some hopes that the world is habitable. Communications specialist Beth Johnson is joined by co-author Dr. Cecilia Garraffo from the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics to talk about this disappointing news and its impact on the search for life beyond Earth, as well as her work in establishing AstroAI, "a cutting-edge research institute dedicated to advancing astrophysics through the application of artificial intelligence." No one wanted to come back and watch the finale of The Muppets Mayhem with us. That doesn't mean anything, does it? It does. It means we lose our way into Two And A Half Men, The Fast And The Furious, directing extras, Morphine (the band), Snake Eyes (the G.I. Joe) and... Ernest P. Worrell? It also means this show is over and maybe that's not as much of a relief as you and all of our guests thought it would be.
The Muppets are the perfect antidote to the bummer inducing we imposed on our guest Denzel Belin last time he was with us for My So-Called Life. Unless of course, those Muppets are too busy with their phones so the show has to be about humans and their dumb self-centered relationship concerns.

Silver-plated Minecraft experts Chris Hayner and Harry Nelson have returned to The Muppets Mayhem to wonder if, in fact, there will ever be any Minecraft in this episode.
Hilary's son boils the Muppets down to their essential elements and they (and you and we) will never be the same.
Jordy Bogguss is here to break it to us that The Muppets Mayhem has tricked us, that it hasn't improved and that The Blues Brothers are not good at music.
Sulia Altenberg has falen through the ceiling and into our studio, but first, let's explore some public domain music! The times they are A-movin' right along. Moogin' right along? Look, we can't think of everything.
Matt Kawczynski is here to convince us Zoot and Lips are the funniest thing since sliced bread.
What's up, dudes? Mike Westfall from Advent Calendar House and I take a trip to Emily Bear's house to visit the Muppets! That's right! We're talking the 1987 special "A Muppet Family Christmas"! We get into obscure cameos, Sam Eagle's one-liners, and more! Kermit and the gang travel to Fozzie's mom's house to surprise her for Christmas. Little do they know that Emily Bear has planned a vacation and has rented her house to Doc and Sprocket as an air BnB. The sheer volume has Doc building bunk beds to accommodate the crowds. Fozzie builds the perfect comedic partner snowman, and the Swedish Chef invites a turkey to stay with them in the hopes of cooking him for dinner. After watching a Muppet Babies home video, Gonzo almost gets into a fight with the lecherous turkey. The Sesame Street crew wassails into the farmhouse, and Kermit and Robin pass it on with the Fraggles. When Piggy is caught in a snowstorm, Doc rides to her rescue! Then the annual carol sing ensues!A "'Twas the Night Before Christmas" play? Check. An Electric Mayhem performance? Got it. A two-headed monster Santa? Yes, but only if the other monsters pull the sleigh! Come hop in the van and get ready to do some head-banging with the Electic Mayhem Muppet Band as Andrew and Presley discuss this ill-fated show. All our Links: https://linktr.ee/seasononepodSeason Spoiler Synopsis: The muppets mayhem was a Disney plus origin series centered around the former house band of the muppets as they produce their first studio album since their inception. The show starred Nora (Lilly Singh), an assistant at the failing Wax Town records who convinces Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem to produce an album that was to the studio 50 years prior. With the help of a loyal follower of the band Moog (Tahj Mowry) and her influencer sister Hannah (Sara Chaudry) the start to form a connection with the members of the band. The band who are all muppets have been touring since the end of the original muppet show run and have never produced their own standalone album only playing covers of other songs. Through various adventures and misunderstandings the band eventually produces their album and then breaks up resulting in Nora, Hannah and Moog to get the band back together. Animal (the famous drummer for the band) is able to rally his band mates back together in support of Nora to play at the Hollywood bowl for the first time before proceeding on another tour to promote their new album.

There is SO much great NEW and CLASSIC tunes we try to get to every week on Catching A Wave. We'll pack as much of 'em into this hour as we can. We'll play a tune from a Jan & Dean album that's celebrating it's 60th anniversary in our Good Time segment. Beth Riley has a summery instrumental from America's band The Beach Boys in her Surf's Up: Beth's Beach Boys Break. Wind up your radio for a look back at the king of wacky radio, Dr. Demento! Enjoy Stuff looks back at the zaniness of the parodies and comedy bits he played and what made us laugh so hard. From Fish Heads to Dead Puppies, it's time to get Demented! Parodies and comedy are great, but has there ever been one place that specializes in only those classics? Look no further than Dr. Demento! He's the bearded, top hat-wearing radio DJ that made Weird Al famous and Shaving Cream naughty. This week we look back on all the laughs. News We have a premiere dated for Only Murders in the Building Star Wars Galactic Star Cruiser to close this fall. We share our thoughts LEGO will release a sweet Pac-Man build that moves and all kinds of stuff! Alamo Drafthouse has offered a collectible Indiana Jones glass for the release of Dial of Destiny Check out our TeePublic store for some enjoyable swag and all the latest fashion trends What we're Enjoying Shua is enjoying some Mayhem! But he's trying to relax because he's just watching The Muppets Mayhem on Disney+. It's a pretty good interpretation of our favorite rock band, Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem. All while trying to record their first album. Jay is running a local Memorial Day 5k, probably as you read this! Isn't it good when we can stay fit and active? Enjoy Music! Dr. Demento was filling the radio airwaves with funny songs for years. His real name is Barrett Hanson, but we all know him as Dr. Demento. During the 70s and 80s he had a syndicated radio show where he played many song parodies, stand-up, comedy, routines, and recorded skits. But that really doesn't even come close to describing all of the crazy kinds of humor he had on his demented show. This week, Jay and Shua revisit some of their favorites and talk about what made it so funny. Be sure to check out our YouTube playlist for some great Dr. Demento memories https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLw8odn9KH-emDSo2LGA791vDNBRC_zvqY Have you ever listened to Dr. Demento? What are some of your favorite bits? First person that emails me with the subject line, “They're coming to take me away” will get a special mention on the show. Let us know. Come talk to us in the Discord channel or send us an email to EnjoyStuff@RetroZap.com
