Ashe in America, Abbey Blue Eyes, Christy Lupo, and Jackie Espada bring another lively episode of Alphas Make Sandwiches. The ladies kick things off with playful banter about building a Badlands compound before diving into skincare tips, including lotion, deodorant, and the tallow bar, with fun hacks like using it to tame flyaway hair. History lessons cover Eisenhower's education act, the first U.S. flag flown in battle, NASA's Viking 2 Mars landing, Truman's first coast-to-coast TV broadcast, and early submarine warfare with the Turtle. They also discuss the origins of Uncle Sam, McKinley's assassination, and Codex 9/11, setting the stage for upcoming watch parties. In this episode Al Roxburgh and Jenny Sinclair meet Angie Allgood, a social worker whose family roots in the Bonny Downs community shaped her vocation. Her family's generational faith taught her to see Jesus as a friend. Together with the East End tradition of extended family living, this fostered a passion for working with young people and others struggling with life. A moment of transformation came when she was led by the Spirit, through Isaiah 58, to give up statutory social work and focus on those in need within her own community. It was then that she learned from a homeless man about the “proper” way to help: rather than material provision or doing for, real healing comes through belonging and purpose. NewWay, a charity with a distinctive approach, then emerged. The “new way” involves a commitment to mutuality and accountability and a readiness to be vulnerable rather than transactional. Angie describes this as the purest and most authentic form of church. Angie isn't a theologian, hasn't been to seminary and isn't ordained. She simply followed the Spirit.Angie Allgood is the fourth of six generations to live in the same few streets of East Ham, in Newham, East London, UK. Angie has been a social worker for over 35 years, has founded two local charities and pioneered many community activities. Her current role is as the Director of a small local Newham charity she co-founded: NEWway supports single adults affected by homelessness, providing purpose, belonging and safety, joining with churches of all traditions and the people of Newham to restore lives affected by homelessness.LinksFor Angie Allgood:https://newwayproject.org/https://www.linkedin.com/in/angie-allgood-535732164/?originalSubdomain=ukFor Alan J Roxburgh:http://alanroxburgh.com/aboutFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/alan.roxburgh.127/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/thecommonsnetworkBooksForming Communities of Hope in the Great Unraveling: Leadership in a Changing World (with Roy Searle)Joining God in the Great UnravelingLeadership, God's Agency and DisruptionsJoining God, Remaking Church, Changing the World: The New Shape of the Church in Our TimeFor Jenny Sinclair:Website: https://togetherforthecommongood.co.uk/from-jenny-sinclairLinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/jenny-sinclair-0589783b/Twitter: https://twitter.com/T4CGFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/TogetherForTheCommonGoodUKInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/t4cg_insta/ Get full access to Leaving Egypt at leavingegyptpodcast.substack.com/subscribe

In today's episode of Backpacker Radio, presented by The Trek, we're joined by Whitney La Ruffa, better known in the world of backpacking as “Allgood.” Allgood is the former president of ALDHA-West, the current Chief Revenue Officer at FarOut, and a certified backpacking OG—his first thru-hike dates all the way back to the early '90s (some of you weren't even alive then… which is weird). Since that first trek, Allgood has racked up an impressive list of trails, including the JMT, Wonderland Trail, Chinook Trail, Sierra High Route, PCT, CDT, and others. In this episode, we dive into stories from his countless miles on trail, his passion for backpacking food—he's a bona fide backcountry chef, as evidenced by him freeze drying his own meals—and he spills the beans on some of his favorite trail-tested recipes. We also chat about how a chance encounter on the AT led him to adopt his dog, Erwin, and how Erwin has deepened his love for dogs in general. Beyond the trail, we get Allgood's take on how backpacking has evolved since the 1990s, hear a heartfelt update on the health of former guest and beloved trail icon Renee "She-ra" Patrick, and unpack some of the recent bumps in the road for FarOut. We wrap the show with how Damascus has bounced back in the wake of Hurricane Helene, if animals could talk, which species would be the most annoying, and the triple crown of states we'd draft in a civil war. There's plenty of “dog talk at its finest” in this episode with Hoosier tree dog enthusiast Darren Allgood. With three squirrel dog world championships under his belt and an affinity for Plotts and Mountain Curs, Steve takes the opportunity to catch up with his guest as he returns home from Plott Days. The result is some great conversation, tailor-made for brindle dog aficionados. The boys discuss Allgood's background and beginning in an area that has long been famous for producing big-winning coonhounds and curs, many of them from the English Coonhound breed. Several coon hunting icons, of the two and four-legged variety, are discussed at length. This one is for good ole boys that love good hounds and love, even more, to sit and talk about them. For that reason, this one qualifies, without reservation, for the “dog talk at it's finest” designation. See if you agree!Episode NotesWe would like to thank those who support this podcast. See if you agree! We would like to thank those who support this podcast. "Autistic women, especially those of us who are late identified, have spent our entire lives performing outside of our comfort zones just to survive, just to pass, to feel safe. It's spooky season again, which means Michael is back to encourage you to watch scary movies. He's also got a new memoir out called It's All Good, so why not scoot your gigantic mahogany chair up to your stone fireplace and give it a nice read. Just make sure it's storming outside for maximum spookiness. The memoir isn't necessarily spooky; that advice is just because it's Halloween soon. Learn more about your ad choices.
