Prepare to be blown away by two of the most talented and inspiring musicians to grace our studio. Al Vasquez, a master percussionist and vocalist, joined forces with the legendary Bill Edwards on guitar. Despite some minor technical difficulties at the start, their raw talent and passion shone through in every note. As I sat there, surrounded by the electric energy of their live performance, I felt like I was transported into a recording studio. Their musical chemistry was undeniable, and I was honored to witness it firsthand. But enough from me, let their music speak for itself as you listen to the show. Al will be gracing our local venues soon, so mark your calendars. On December 28, catch his quartet at Davis Wine Bar. And on January 25, don't miss his performance at the Winters Opera House alongside the incredible Dave Nachmanoff. Don't miss this opportunity to experience pure musical talent at its finest. Trust me, this hour will be a gift to your senses. So be swept away by the captivating performances you will witness.

Born in 1952 in Orsett, Essex in England, the youngest son to Welsh parents Iris and Bill Edwards. Upon leaving school, he went into the travel industry, where he travelled the world, working in travel agencies, tour operators and airlines for some 30 years. In 1976 Myron began freelance writing for BBC, radio and television, his credits include the Two Ronnies, Week Endings, and the News Huddlines. In 1980, he joined JWT advertising, as a copywriter writing his first TV commercial for dog food inside 10 days. His love for the creative never left him and in 1987 he created Tubewalking, a new map concept, to help people get around London easier on foot, which still operates today. In 1990 he married Niki, whose family background is Greek Cypriot. On a family trip to Cyprus, visiting Aphrodite's Rock for the first time, the beginnings of his passion to write the story of Mistress of the Rock came into fruition. Moving his family in 2005 to Cyprus to live, gave him the opportunity to write, as during this time he worked on campaigns for TV and Radio in an advertising agency in Limassol. The first manuscript of the book was completed in 2007, released by a local publisher it had a limited audience, but was well received by those who had read it. He has now completed the sequel and is working on the third part of this story. Myron has three children, two sons and one daughter all grown up. In this episode we speak to three Englishmen who have made their home in Wales and have played most if not all of their adult cricket here, representing Wales in their Seniors Teams at Over 50s, Over 60s and Over 70s levels. Mick Staddon was born in Battersea and played most of his early cricket on Clapham Common, playing for Belleville Junior Boys and later attending Battersea Grammar School. The school can boast two England players amongst their old boys, Mike Selvey and David Smith. Mick's time at the school was sandwiched between them both. He attended Swansea University from 1968 to 1972, training as a teacher and stayed on in Wales after completing his studies. After some persuasion from the legendary Bill Edwards, he turned out for Swansea under the captaincy of Hywel Lewis. The club returned to the South Wales Cricket Association First Division in 1976 when Rodney Ontong was the club professional. Mick captained Swansea for two seasons between 1980 and 1982 and vividly remembers the 1981 Welsh Cup Final when Swansea played Ammanford Cricket Club and were beaten by the third division side who were inspired by the phenomenon that was Linton Lewis. Mick finally finished Saturday cricket aged 60 and has loved his Seniors cricket, giving him the chance to extend his career and loving the camaraderie between the players. Mike Turner learnt his cricket first at Dorchester Grammar School and a minor public school in the West Country. He then played at University and in Oxfordshire before moving to Wales in 1972. He first played village cricket before being recruited by Lampeter Town Cricket Club for whom he played for over 20 years. After an invitation to play for Llandysul Cricket Club he played for them for 17 seasons, playing his final league game against Maesteg in 2019. Mike believes he is, currently, the oldest player to play in the South Wales Premier League at 73, although this may be a record that will be broken by Ron Walton who may return to top flight cricket with Merthyr Tydfil Cricket Club. He is now the first team manager at Llandysul. Peter Bettelly spent his formative years in the East Midlands and although he loved the game he did not play his first proper game of cricket until he started a working life in South Africa where he spent 4 years in and around Cape Town. He moved to West Wales in the 1980s where he played for Cardigan Cricket Club in the West Wales Cricket Conference for 20 years. He started his seniors cricket career aged 40 and has played for all the Seniors age grades from Over 50s to, currently, the Over 70s. He remembers playing a charity game in his native South Notts and bowling to Brian Clough and sharing a dressing room with Derek Randall. All three guests talk about their cricketing lives and the joy they have experienced playing the game at all levels.

On this episode of the podcast I speak with Ola Wikander about the field of “Nuclear Semiotics”, the scholarly discussion concerning communicating information about nuclear waste disposal into the far future. Ola is a Ugaritologist, Hebraist, Semitist, author, and Senior Lecturer at Lund University. He specializes in ancient languages and religions of the near east, and in particular the texts of Ugarit, which was a city state destroyed c. 1185 BC. Assuming we work out a secure way of dealing with our nuclear waste, how do we let our descendants 10,000 years into the future know that that is what we have done, bearing in mind that the oldest written text is only around 5,000 years old. In 10,000 years our descendants will likely live in an entirely different symbolic universe. Borders (if borders still exist) will have shifted, our political systems will be entirely new, and none of the languages spoken today will be recognizable. Furthermore, even if we can make our message understandable, there is no guarantee that our descendants will listen or care. Museums all over the world are filled with deceased kings warning people not to move their bodies. The discussion begins with the history, texts, religion, and destruction of Ugarit, as well as the links that Ugarit had to the early texts and religion of the israelites. It ends with nuclear waste, and the difficulties of transmitting information into the distant future. We cover some of the more unique suggested solutions to the problem, including `Atomic Priesthood', proposed by linguist Thomas Sebeok, a semi-religious council, responsible for passing on knowledge down the generations through artificially created ritual-and-legend. Note: At around 13:00 minutes into the video we discuss techniques for learning new languages. Despite what was said in the video, there have been new developments: lately, an online lesson series teaching Ugaritic by immersion has actually been started by Benjamin Kantor - see here: https://biblicalhebrew.com/tv-show/immersion-ugaritic/ ►Watch on Youtube: https://youtu.be/WvCmG0w8vko ►For more information about Ola's research: https://portal.research.lu.se/en/persons/ola-wikander ►Follow Ola on Twitter: @OlaWikander These conversations are supported by the Andrea von Braun foundation (http://www.avbstiftung.de/), as an exploration of the rich, exciting, connected, scientifically literate, and (most importantly) sustainable future of humanity. The views expressed in these episodes are my own and those of my guests. Many thanks to Bill Edwards for suggestion the topic of this interview.

Building on our recent #BruteCast about drone swarms, #TeamKrulak is excited to welcome Col Bill Edwards, U.S. Army (retired) to open the aperture on the global security challenges presented by commercial drones. Col Edwards describes the challenges, countermeasures, and potential opportunities in this new security environment. Bill Edwards is President of Federal and Public Safety at Building Intelligence, Inc. He retired from military service in 2017 and let Thornton Tomasetti's security consulting group as a Principal from 2017-2021. Two historic stone wall specialists will be talking at the upcoming UPSTART Festival in the Bay of Islands. Kate Ballard's book Stone Wall Country: The Dry Stone Walls of Bay of Islands and Kaikohe was based on interviews with local residents, including direct descendants of the original wall builders. At her talk "Stories behind walls" she'll be joined by fellow enthusiast Bill Edwards, Heritage New Zealand's area manager. There are hundreds of kilometres of dry stone walls, made from volcanic rocks in the region, so they're an important part of the landscape. Lynn Freeman talks with Kate and Bill, and first asks how these walls were built. Kate Ballard and Bill Edwards' "Stories behind walls" takes place on Saturday 24 Sept at the Plough & Feather in Kerikeri. It's part of Upsurge the Bay of Islands Arts Festival.

Multi-Unit Month is back, and that means four brand-new podcast episodes dedicated to multi-unit franchising. Join us every Friday in May, when we'll be speaking to many franchising experts and insiders – as well as multi-unit and multi-brand operators themselves – to learn why this form of franchise ownership is skyrocketing in popularity. According to FRANdata, over half of all franchise units in the U.S. are controlled by multi-unit operators. There are more than 43,000 of these kinds of operators in the market, and this figure has been rising steadily since multi-unit ownership came to the forefront in the 1980s. And while we'd commonly associate a broad, multi-unit portfolio with the QSR segment, the fact is that multi-unit and multi-brand ownership can be found across the board. It's true that 81.96 per cent of QSR units fall under multi-unit ownership, but 71.5 per cent of beauty-focused brands also come under this umbrella. Just over half of all clothing and accessory locations are part of a multi-unit portfolio, too. To learn more about multi-unit franchising and the strategies involved, we spoke with Matthew Haller, president and CEO of the IFA, Bill Edwards, founder of Edwards Global Services, and Michael Cullom, director at Moss Adams. If you're looking to broaden your own franchise portfolio or embark upon expansive growth for the first time, then tune in to learn from the experts. To keep your finger on the beating pulse of franchising, sign up for our newsletter at global-franchise.com, subscribe to our definitive magazine, and join the conversation with our experts today on LinkedIn, Twitter and Facebook. September 30, 1973 — #14CFUN is back! Program Director Chuck McCoy has an interesting story about the promotion: "I selected veteran DJ Daryl 'B' to be the MC and star of our call letter change. I asked Daryl to announce that all regular programming on the new CFUN would be suspended while he dialed randomly selected numbers waiting for the first person to answer 'CFUN is back'. That person would then instantly win $5,000. I'm not sure most people know why we selected September 30 as our launch date. Wouldn't October 1, the beginning of a new month be the right day to announce the 'beginning' of a new CFUN? CRTC regulations prohibited any radio station from giving way more than $5,000 in promotional winnings in any given calendar month. What if we gave away no cash prizes from September 1-September 29? In that way, the entire month's allowable $5,000 prize could be awarded on September 30. It was a tricky way to stay within the law and the very next day, being able to go back and start giving away more cash prizes." Thanks, Chuck! A big "thanks" also to Doug Thompson and the late Mike Cleaver for their help with this audio composite of the big night and a sample of the amazing radio that followed. We honour the voices of #14CFUN in 1973: Fred Latremouille, Daryl 'B', Bob Magee, John Rode, Peter Benson, Tom Jeffries, Russ Tyson, J. Lee Smith, Jim Hault, Bill Edwards, Tom Lucas, Jack Casey, Russ McLoud and Bob Merchant.

--- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/bright-headed-publishing/message

On todays show Jordan meets with Bill Edwards, owner of The Triangle Shooting Academy. Having owned a small gun shop back in 2010, Bill saw the potential for growth and decided to open what eventually became an NSSF 5 Star shooting range. With a strong focus on education and training, this 41,000 sq. ft. facility is amazing. It currently features 33 lanes, a full time gunsmith, training rooms, impressive retail, a cafe (the burgers are amazing!) and the list goes on. But that's just phase 1. Phase 2 will offer 7-100 yard indoor lanes, archery, and maybe even a flight simulator! Ok...where's my credit card?

Guest Bio:The Squatty Potty Story begins at the home of the Edwards Family — Bill, Judy, and their son Bobby, the inventors and creators of Squatty Potty toilet stools and the owners of Squatty Potty, LLC, a small family business in Saint George, Utah.Although the family had always been very health conscious, they were dealing with some problems that most families are too embarrassed to discuss — constipation and hemorrhoids. In 2010, in search of relief, Judy Edwards consulted a therapist, who suggested that squatting might improve her condition by helping to relax her colon.Though unaccustomed to the practice of squatting to poop, Judy was desperate to try anything, and squatting did seem to be the more natural way to do one's business. After all, people had been squatting to poop since the dawn of humanity, and three quarters of the world's population still swear by it.As would be the case, Judy's home in southern Utah was equipped with a modern, western-style toilet. While she found relief with the squatting position — raising her feet on a step stool while sitting on the toilet — it was very awkward and uncomfortable.Short of strapping on stilts, she tried everything to place herself in the proper position to ease her discomfort — different step stools, books, buckets, and other easily procured household items. One was too high, another was too low, and none of them felt just right. The clutter also blocked the path to the most urgently needed household appliance, resulting in numerous incidents of stubbed toes, especially in the middle of the night.Fortunately, about 35 years before this story began, Judy had given birth to a baby boy, Bobby Edwards, whom Judy and Bill raised to become a successful designer and contractor. When Bobby caught wind of his mother's plight, he quickly realized that the standard stepstool could be redesigned. Working in the family's garage, Bobby built several prototypes until he found one that worked — a platform of optimum height and width for assuming the squatting position and U-shaped to tuck conveniently out of the way when not in use.The device worked so well, the Edwards built several more to give to friends and family at Christmas, and the gift was such a hit, Bobby launched a website in 2011 and started marketing and selling the product online. Squatty Potty was born. Online sales were a resounding success, with the home-based business grossing over $1 million in its first year. In that year, the Edwards had shipped their product to every state in the U.S. along with 17 other countries. In 2012, shortly after moving production from their garage to a local warehouse, the “Dr. Oz” show called. Bill Edwards answered and thought it was a prank call from one of his kids, but he soon realized that the call was legit, and he shipped a Squatty Potty to the studio, so they could film the segment. When the segment aired, orders started pouring in.

Dr Sue Anderson presented on 19 September 2017 'Bill Edwards, A Remarkable Man; A Remarkable Mission'. From a humble upbringing in regional Victoria, Bill Edwards found his calling working with Aboriginal people in the far north of South Australia. As a young, newly-ordained minister he was posted to Ernabella (now Pukatja), a Presbyterian mission in the Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara Lands in 1958. Soon after his arrival there the superintendent took ill and was forced to resign his post and Bill found himself thrown in at the deep end as he assumed the role. An energetic and cheerful person, Bill quickly learned the Pitjantjatjara language and turned his hand to anything that came his way – from carpentry, to stock keeping, to preaching the gospel. There he met his wife, Val, the resident nursing Sister, who had a similar work ethic and devotion. While Val had to step down after marriage, she continued to assist and run the clinic at Ernabella as needed. At the same time, she trained Anangu women in nursing, midwifery and domestic work and catered for the constant stream of visitors to the mission. Bill travelled difficult terrain over vast areas on a regular basis to minister to his congregation and conducted the famous Ernabella choir for fourteen years until the couple moved to Adelaide in 1972. This was not the end of their work. Bill went on to teach, speak, write and publish on Aboriginal issues, he translated and interpreted in courts and hospitals, and had a long association with the University of South Australia where he remained an adjunct until he passed away in 2015 at the age of 86. This free public lecture was part of the History Trust of South Australia's Talking History series. For upcoming events visit: history.sa.gov.au/whats-on/events/
