In this first episode of our four-part series, Salwa sits down with Steve Lawrence to explore the powerful story behind his life, his leadership, and the calling that shaped his mission. From his father's remarkable journey in Rhodesia, to the Jesuit mentor who changed the course of his family's faith, to Steve's own encounter with Jesus during a turbulent adolescence—this episode traces the key moments that formed the man he is today. Steve opens up about:  The influence of a family priest and the legacy of encouragement.  Growing up in a home marked by conflict, and discovering Jesus in the midst of darkness.  His surprising path from professional AFL footballer to educator, missionary, and leader.  How grace, vocation, and resilience shaped his passion for forming others Why encouragement and faith are at the heart of true leadership This deeply personal conversation sets the foundation for the rest of the series, inviting viewers to reflect on the people and moments that have shaped their own calling. Whether you're an educator, a leader, or simply someone searching for purpose, Steve's story is a reminder that God uses every experience—joy, pain, uncertainty—to prepare us for mission. Stay tuned for Episode 2, where we dive into the challenges facing leaders and educators today.

How to heal the wounded men: trauma, numbness & masculinity - Hugh Newton

The Primal Happiness Show

In this week's show Lian is joined by Hugh Newton. Hugh's life began in the midst of a war in Zimbabwe (then known as Rhodesia). Growing up in such harsh conditions meant that he had to work hard to overcome his complex childhood trauma. Hugh began his self-development journey 30 years ago, and has been passionate about both supporting men to step into the fullest versions of themselves, and strengthening and uplifting the African continent that he loves so much. Hugh works as the lead male facilitator at Celebration of Being, and was a certified leader at A Band of Brothers for 7 years. He's also a trained shadow work facilitator and coach. His body of work supports men to show up as their best selves in the world, overcome their wounding, and build rich, nourishing lives for themselves and those they love. In this episode, Lian and Hugh explore men, trauma, and the long road back to wholeness. They touch Hugh's childhood on a remote Rhodesian farm under civil war, the day a nine-year-old was trained and armed to protect his mother and sister, the years of numbness that followed, and the moment he named the predator within and chose to meet it. They turn to what creates healing: men's work that faces danger with love, simple daily honesty instead of performance, and steady boundaries that make intimacy possible. Listen if you are or love a man who can't feel, wondered why good men go numb, or wanted to understand how even the deepest wounds in men can become strength. We'd love to know what YOU think about this week's show. Let's carry on the conversation… please leave a comment wherever you are listening or in any of our other spaces to engage. What you'll learn from this episode: How men's childhood survival strategies become adult numbness, and the concrete steps that begin to thaw it without collapsing into chaos and overwhelm Why naming the predator within changes behaviour, desire, and trust in relationship, and the practices that keep it in the heart rather than the shadows What happens when women respond to men's early, imperfect vulnerability with steadiness and praise… and how that accelerates genuine masculine healing Resources and stuff spoken about: The Sovereign's Journey - May 2026 edition Hugh's book on Amazon Regular online workshops for men Join Hugh on instagram Join Hugh on Facebook Join UNIO, The Community for Wild Sovereign Souls: This is for the old souls in this new world… Discover your kin & unite with your soul's calling to truly live your myth. Tyler considers Winnie and Nelson: Portrait of a Marriage one of the best books of the last decade, and its author Jonny Steinberg one of the most underrated writers and thinkers—in North America, at least. Steinberg's particular genius lies in getting uncomfortably close to difficult truths through immersive research—spending 350 hours in police ride-alongs, years studying prison gangs and their century-old oral histories, following a Somali refugee's journey across East Africa—and then rendering what he finds with a novelist's emotional insight. Tyler and Jonny discuss why South African police only feel comfortable responding to domestic violence calls, how to fix policing, the ghettoization of crime, how prison gangs regulate behavior through century-old rituals, how apartheid led to mass incarceration and how it manifested in prisons, why Nelson Mandela never really knew his wife Winnie and the many masks they each wore, what went wrong with the ANC, why the judiciary maintained its independence but not its quality, whether Tyler should buy land in Durban, the art scene in Johannesburg, how COVID gave statism a new lease on life, why the best South African novels may still be ahead, his forthcoming biography of Cecil Rhodes, why English families weren't foolish to move to Rhodesia in the 1920s, where to take an ideal two-week trip around South Africa, and more. In this episode, guest host Ben Whedon explores the significant transformations in Washington, D.C. following President Trump's federalization of the police force and the arrival of the National Guard with John Lott from the Crime Prevention Research Center as they discuss the dramatic decline in crime rates, the implications of recent legislative changes, and the ongoing challenges in maintaining safety in urban areas. Later, Ben welcomes Will Tanner, co-founder of the American Tribune, to discuss the alarming state of crime in America and its parallels to historical regimes like those in South Africa and Rhodesia. Tanner shares insights on the concept of 'anarcho tyranny,' examining how law-abiding citizens are increasingly marginalized while criminal elements operate with impunity. We delve into the implications of these dynamics on urban life, the political landscape, and the potential for change in America's cities. Rhodesia, now called the Republic of Zimbabwe, used to be a self-governing British colony.   In November 1965, the Cabinet of Rhodesia unilaterally declared independence from Britain in an effort to preserve white minority rule.   The Rhodesian Bush War, also known as the Rhodesian Civil War, followed.  It lasted until December 1979.  This protracted guerilla war pitted Rhodesia's globally isolated government against the African nationalist Zimbabwe African Nationalist Union (ZANU) and Zimbabwe African People's Union.  Eventually ZANU prevailed and its leader, Robert Mugabe, was elected Prime Minister in February 1980.   Paul Moorcraft and Peter MacLaughlin tell the story in “The Rhodesian War Fifty Years On”.

2005 – Twenty Years OnNext Monday one of the most historic and transformative events in the Irish Peace Process took place. Twenty years ago on the 28 July 2005 the IRA issued a statement which ended its decades long armed struggle. In its statement the IRA said: "The leadership of Óglaigh na hÉireann has formally ordered an end to the armed campaign. This will take effect from 4pm this afternoon.  All IRA units have been ordered to dump arms. All Volunteers have been instructed to assist the development of purely political and democratic programmes through exclusively peaceful means. Volunteers must not engage in any other activities whatsoever.”The IRA leadership also said that it had authorised its representative to engage with the IICD (Independent International Commission on Decommissioning) to “complete the process to verifiably put its arms beyond use in a way which will further enhance public confidence.” This was confirmed two months later on the 26 September by the Commission. The IRA initiative opened up opportunities for progress.Peace processes are by their very nature challenging and difficult. They frequently fail. Many of the wars of the 1960s and 70's were a response to the colonial occupation and exploitation of native peoples by colonial powers.  Africa saw many examples of these. Some conflicts went on into the 1980s and 90s. Algeria, Kenya, Zimbabwe (then Rhodesia), Angola, Mozambique, and others, including in Asia the Vietnam War and in the Middle East the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territories. The South African peace process brought an end to apartheid and witnessed the election of Nelson Mandela as President of that country in 1994. In our own place our peace process brought an end to decades of conflict and heralded processes of change.Today, in a world still bedevilled by wars, the Irish Peace Process is frequently held up internationally as an example of a peace process that is working.  The governments occasionally try to root it in the Anglo-Irish Agreement of 1985. But the truth is that it started in the 1970s when Republicans began to claim back the word ‘Peace.'A Welcome Electoral ChangeThe decision, announced last week by the British government, that it will be lowering the voting age to those aged 16 and 17, is a welcome move. There is already widespread support for a reduction in the voting age. Last September the Assembly backed a Sinn Féin motion calling for this change. In the South the policy has received widespread cross-party support from Sinn Féin, Fine Gael, Fianna Fáil, The Green Party, The Labour Party, Social Democrats, People Before Profit, and many Independents. The London government is focussed on the 2029 Westminster election but the North will have local government and Assembly elections in 2027. The focus now must be on ensuring that the necessary legislative steps are taken to ensure that 16 and 17 year olds can vote in those elections.Updating the electoral register and ensuring that this new tranche of young voters have suitable identification, will be a big job of work but with political will it can be done. It would also send entirely the wrong message to future voters if the 2027 deadline is missed.Legislating for young people to have the right to vote is the right thing to do. All parties in the North, with the exception of the DUP, support changing the voting rules. Young people should have the right to vote on decisions that impact on their lives, including voting for a united Ireland.Gaels le Cheile In Conversation with Peter CanavanMonday 28th July, 7:30pm - Naomh Eoin CLG Corrigan Park

Rhodesia, now Zimbabwe since 1980, is a landlocked country in Southeast Africa. From 1978-1980, Rhodesia experienced one of the largest anthrax epidemics in recorded history. This led to the deaths of hundreds and caused significant economic devastation. The epidemic happened during the Rhodesian Bush War. To this day, the origins of this devastating outbreak remain highly controversial- was it the result of an endemic outbreak or a case of biological warfare? Today I'm going to look at the history of the epidemic and the possible causes with Matthew Turner, MD. Dr Turner is with the Department of Emergency Medicine at Penn State Health Milton S. The Wilson government got off to a pretty sticky start, with the new Prime Minister learning, more or less as he arrived at Downing Street in October 1964, that the trade deficit for the year was likely to be twice as bad as he'd expected. One option to deal with the problem was devaluation, but that Wilson ruled out: he remembered how it had been when the Attlee government had devalued, and he didn't want to face that loss of national prestige or the resentment devaluation had produced, all over again. The problem was that sticking with the pound at an artificially high value meant costs for government which killed many other ambitions, in particular introducing an element of planning and using it to generate growth.Still, the US was pleased Britain hadn't devalued. It was, however, less pleased that Britain wasn't sending troops to join its war in Vietnam, but that was a red line for Wilson. He didn't like wars and he wasn't inclined to send young British people into harm's way for a war whose moral grounds many were now questioning and which it wasn't obvious the US could even win.And Wilson also had to face another grisly chapter in the collapse of empire, when Southern Rhodesia, renamed Rhodesia and under a government headed by the hardline Ian Smith, went for a unilateral declaration of independence (UDI). Again, Wilson however much he disliked seeing Rhodesia hanging on to white rule ignoring its black majority, wasn't prepared to go to war over the issue. Instead, he tried to use sanctions to bring Smith to his knees, a well-intentioned tactic which simply didn't work.Illustration: The funeral cortège of Winston Churchill winding its way through London. Today's episode is the first in a special two-part series with a guest whose work has shaped the way millions think about land, livestock, and leadership. Allan Savory is a legend in the regenerative agriculture world—founder of the Savory Institute, developer of the holistic management framework, and a lifelong challenger of convention. From growing up in war-torn Rhodesia to commanding combat tracking units, and later reshaping global agricultural theory, Allan's story is as unconventional as it is urgent. As Allan says in today's episode: "Without agriculture, you cannot have a choir. You cannot have a church. You cannot have a university. You cannot have an economy. You cannot have a government. You cannot have an army. You cannot have anything. It is the very foundation of civilization." In Part 1, we cover his early military service, his time as a young wildlife ecologist tasked with protecting massive swaths of African rangeland, and the origin of holistic management—how it was born not from theory, but from a lifetime of ecological and military observation under fire. We also dive deep into how institutional ego, flawed beliefs, and academic dogma continue to stand in the way of solving global desertification and food insecurity. This isn't your typical ag conversation—and it's not meant to be. It's bold, unfiltered, and driven by a mission that started decades before most of us ever heard the word “regenerative.” Enjoy Part 1 with Allan Savory.

This episode revolves around "Resentment" as a human motivation. We begin with a discussion of a debate conducted by two AI's on the topic of Capitalism vs Socialism and remark on how whinny, nit-picky and generally ungrateful the Socialist bot's arguments were. From here we move into the topic of racial violence in South Africa, apartheid and the history of Rhodesia. Here we again find ourselves discussing resentment as it pertains to social unrest and human tribalism. Next we tackle grandiose ideas, which have played out in human history such as: Manifest Destiny, the Divine Right of Kings and the Right of Conquest. And, as you probably guessed, we can't discuss the Right of Conquest without a detour into the Gaza-Israel conflict and the resentment that so often comes with Imperialism and Colonialism. And finally, we wrap with a commentary on freedom of speech, whether speech can be violence (or incite it) and the special status given to the so-called N-word. Enjoy :)

In Episode 119 of Spellbreakers, Matt Trump revisits the explosive issue of South Africa's white Afrikaner population and the rising rhetoric surrounding their fate. Triggered by President Trump's televised challenge to South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, Matt explores how what was once a fringe concern has erupted into a mainstream, high-stakes topic. He examines the viral “Kill the Boer” chants led by Julius Malema, the ANC's tolerance of racial incitement, and the media's coordinated campaign to label Trump's warnings as “debunked.” Amid video glitches and a self-described technical meltdown, Matt presses forward, linking Boer persecution to global anti-white sentiment, drawing parallels to American racial tensions and DEI politics. He contextualizes the issue within South Africa's colonial history, the legacy of the Boer Wars, and the role of the deep state, from Cecil Rhodes to modern narratives. The episode includes cultural notes on Afrikaner identity, references to boerfraus and farm life, and teases next week's topic on Rhodesia. Spellbreakers 119 is part history lesson, part sociopolitical commentary, and part personal testimony on censorship and narrative control, delivered with Matt's signature mix of introspection, humor, and unease.

How to understand and deal with anxiety of women?Hey StefanHope all is wellHave you and your daughter been on any adventures?Father daughter memories? What's something you'd like to experience with your family while you're here in this life together ?Are you allowed in New Zealand?!It would be nice to make a series on the Examination of the major European philosophers and philosophic movements of the 17th and 18th centuries. Particular attention paid to the transition out of the medieval period into the Age of Enlightenment.Happy with the bitcoin price? Why does no one talk about what happened to Rhodesia?Do you still support fluoridation given it is now a known neurotoxin? If you still experience pain thinking about a toxic relationship you walked away from, does this mean you haven't processed the morality properly? I'm still thinking about my sister that I don't speak to anymore. My therapist said that it will always be a “pain point.” What are your thoughts? (asking again- apologies if you answered in a previous stream and I missed it.)Dear Stef, I am currently at a bar on a late Saturday night, I just ordered a drink and the bartender said to me after I ordered a beer, ‘Is that all lovely?'. It was strange to hear this but also flattering to hear a young female bartender refer to me as ‘lovely'. It made me believe that this young bartender was probably flirting with me. I don't recall any other bartender using the word lovely towards me. whilst the term ‘lovely' is often used by older women to refer to younger people, this woman was approximately in her early 20's about 10 years younger than me. She looked reasonably attractive, blonde hair, bright blue eyes but she was also a little chubby, so I wouldn't date her to be frank, but my question still stands, if a younger woman says to a man ‘Is that all lovely?'. 1. Would she say that to a man she is not attracted to?2. Would you say it is flirting to use the term ‘Is that all lovely?'. I've been to my local bar for the past 10 years and I never recall hearing a bartender say to me ‘Is that all lovely?'. If you dothink it is flirting, doyou think it is appropriate to ask her out as I'm ordering or should I attempt to find her after work or when she is on her lunch break when there is a bit more privacy away fromother customers?Dear Stef are nightclubs and bars in Canada known as a place where people meet, but the only people who meet there are generally trashy people? I ask because I am currently in a bar trying to find a girlfriend, I am sitting alone because I don't feel the need to bring male friends with me and to be frank I don't have any male friends not that that bothers me because I would just use male friends as wingman to meet women. Anyway I don't live in Canada anyway, I live in the continent of Australia, anyway I'm listening to this terrible hip hop music playing which is strange because there aren't many African people living in Australia, I see people talking and socialising at this bar late on Saturday night and I am just perplexed by the whole experience which I find just almost miserable to be honest. Stef what chance do I have to find a girlfriend at a place like this? it may seem like a strange question but it's not like there are alternative ideal places a man can go to meet women and ask them out? Anyway why is the West infected with this terrible hip hop music especially in Australia where there are virtually no black people, this music really infects my mind to be frank? What do you think about Saylor starting a fund that buys so much BTC?If you've researched it: Is it a good thing or bad thing?Hi Stef, I asked this question the other day? I was wondering if you had an opinion on outsourcing. Large companies sending jobs to third world countries, and paying pennies on the dollar. Its a part of the free market and capitalisms, and wonder if it could be considered predatory, or just supply and demand. The consumer loses out on jobs, but benefits on cheaper goods and services, and the third world although paid a low wage, still benefit from a better job otherwise provided by their society. Thoughts? Also do you have any thoughts on the United Healthcare CEO being murdered. Again, there seems to be a lot of happiness over a man being murdered. People feel that he caused the deaths of many people because the company denied a lot of claims. But is that just the jealousy of the poor, who do not appreciate the value of the insurance company and want free healthcare, or again the free market at work once again?GET MY NEW BOOK 'PEACEFUL PARENTING', THE INTERACTIVE PEACEFUL PARENTING AI, AND THE FULL AUDIOBOOK!https://peacefulparenting.com/Join the PREMIUM philosophy community on the web for free!Subscribers get 12 HOURS on the "Truth About the French Revolution," multiple interactive multi-lingual philosophy AIs trained on thousands of hours of my material - as well as AIs for Real-Time Relationships, Bitcoin, Peaceful Parenting, and Call-In Shows! You also receive private livestreams, HUNDREDS of exclusive premium shows, early release podcasts, the 22 Part History of Philosophers series and much more!See you soon!https://freedomain.locals.com/support/promo/UPB2025
