Soy my fan. Grammy nominated artist Steve Forbert, best known for the classic "Romeo's Tune," is a true American musical treasure, a fact underscored by his newest album Daylight Savings Time, to be released on September 6, 2024 via Blue Rose Music. Like all his recordings of new songs, it's saturated with what renowned rock journalist Robert Christgau discerned as his "omnivorously observant" songwriting, marked by Steve's gift for finding the more profound meaning and magic within the spectrum of everyday moments of human existence and the character of the world around us as well as his abundant melodic and poetic enchantment."Like Warren Zevon, Gram Parsons, Bob Dylan, Tom Petty, and Bruce Springsteen, Steve Forbert has left his unmistakable imprint on the landscape of American music," says American Songwriter. Like these esteemed creative souls, his work is marked by distinctive qualities all its own and speaks genuinely to his listeners. Daylight Savings Time is Forbert's 21st album and third release helmed by producer/engineer Steve Greenwell (Joss Stone, Gavin DeGraw); it's essential tracks cut old-school style at Greenwell's studio in Asbury Park, NJ, where Steve now resides. Scott E. Moore is a veteran singer-songwriter and guitarist. He's also an accomplished video producer-director-writer and film composer, which he does through his boutique production company WingTip, inc. He works a lot - on a lot of different things: from performing his own music to playing guitar for others to creating diverse high-end video projects for major clients to scoring other people's film and TV work. In 2013 he co-composed and produced 2 hours of gorgeous meditation music for Deepak Chopra and Oprah Winfrey. His business card says "soulful storytelling with pictures and sound," which pretty much sums it up. Scott calls his sound "Americana Soul." His rootsy blend of blues, folk and r&b - as well as his vibe and chops, have made him a comfortable fit performing in venues large and small alongside a diverse group of acts, such as acoustic blues virtusoso Kelly Joe Phelps, Americana crooner Raul Malo (The Mavericks), jazz artists Tuck & Patti, French pop star Tété, folkies Patty Larkin, Steve Forbert, Melissa Ferrick, roots rocker Rhett Miller (The Ol' 97's) and New Orleans band Cowboy Mouth...and even musical comedic legends The Smothers Brothers. And many others.Every few years Scott makes a record. Many longtime fans and followers feel "Home Bittersweet Home" is his strongest. Recorded in East Nashville with producer Neilson Hubbard (Glenn Phillips, Garrison Starr, Stray Don't Sleep), it's a moody, groovy, and lush-sounding collection of Scott's confessional tunes. The songs are driven front & center by Scott's signature sultry, intimate vocal and acoustic guitar, with atmospheric touches of real strings and steel guitar - all anchored by a band consisting of Hubbard's pop-like keyboards and guitar, Marco Giovino (Robert Plant, Patty Griffin, Tom Jones) on drums, James Haggerty (Josh Rouse, The Autumn Defense, Original Blues Brothers) on bass, with Scott adding his bluesy electric playing.__________________Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Prince featured the "Upper Room with Joe Kelley and Gi Dussault" on his official website www.npgmusicclub.com. When you hear about the music of a guitar virtuoso with a doctorate in philosophy, who cut his musical teeth performing and collaborating with singer-songwriter Al Stewart (“Year of the Cat”), you know you will be getting something wonderfully unique. In a career that has spanned a dozen albums and thousands of shows ranging from living room concerts to the Royal Albert Hall in London, Dave Nachmanoff has built a broad and loyal fan base and a unique niche as a performer and songwriter.Touring, accompanying, and recording with his songwriting hero, Al Stewart, for over 15 years gave Dave the chance to get his own music out in front of tens of thousands of people and gained him international exposure and recognition. Over the years, he has shared the stage with a long list of legends of the folk and rock music worlds, including the likes of Alison Krauss, Steve Forbert, Firefall, John Wesley Harding, and blues legend Libba “Freight Train” Cotten (when he was ten years old). Dave continues to record and tour, playing well over a hundred shows a year in listening rooms, private house concerts, and at other events. He is focused on using his music to make a difference in the world and benefit concerts are an important part of that.Dave's album, “Cerulean Sky”, was recorded with Grammy-nominated producer-engineer Bill Smith, who has worked with Frank Sinatra, Paul Simon, and Yes, among others. The Cerulean Sky studio band included Michael Jerome and Taras Prodaniuk (Richard Thompson's rhythm section), and Carl Byron on keyboards (Jackson Browne, Hot Club of LA). Dave's writing has strengthened over the decades and many fans are calling the songs on “Cerulean Sky,” his best yet. When not on tour, Dave is busy producing for other artists, teaching master classes around the US and working in his unique niche of writing and recording custom songs.More information about Dave and friends mentioned in this episode is just a click away...Dave Nachmanoff WebsiteDave Nachmanoff Facebook https://www.bandsintown.com/a/205935"Must Love Dogs" Music Videohttps://twitter.com/davenachSome of Dave's friends and music colleagues:Al StewartMichael McNevinElizabeth CottonLate for the Train - Dave Pascoe and Laura BensonPete HamiltonTim RenwickPeter White
For this episode, we focus on the 6th album of singer-songwriter Steve Forbert, The American in Me. Forbert focuses on the realities of middle-aged life with its failures and compromises. Despite the general feeling of weariness, his humor and hope come through. Although there are no hits on this album, many tracks sure sound like they could have been. We bet American listeners will recognize the American in themselves.

Joey suffered from a rare and debilitating form of epilepsy known as Dravet Syndrome. Dravet's caused persistent seizures which were never able to be controlled through medications leading to severe learning disabilities. While Dravet's robbed Joey of the ability to speak, Joey remained a happy and fun-loving child. He was happiest when music was playing, allowing him to hum, drum, and sing in his own way. To be present when music was playing meant only one thing, that Joey would soon have you dancing and enjoying the music with him.

Help produce Basic Folk by contributing at https://basicfolk.com/donate/Steve Forbert is not a dramatic person. His stories are fairly straight forward even though he's lived a pretty incredible life, which began in Meridian, MS as a young musician. In the hometown of Jimmie Rodgers, Steve found a great guitar teacher in Virginia Shine Harvey, who claimed she was a relation to the famous singing brakeman (Jimmie Rodgers). Ms Harvey taught Steve music through performance and connected him to other young musicians in the area, who then went on to form a couple of bands. He left his town for New York City in his early 20's where he pounded the pavement as a singer/songwriter for a couple years before catching a break. During his climb upwards, Forbert found acceptance in New York's punk scene, especially at the historic CBGB's where club owner Hilly Kristal gave him a chance and introduced him to his manager. From there, Steve went on to start recording records. His second album, Jackrabbit Slim, gave him his hit song, "Romeo's Tune," which he credits giving him his career and "a ticket in to the show." He's releasing his latest, "Moving Through America," with more character studies and focuses on life's oddities. It's not easy to get Steve to talk about himself and his reflections, but he's up for giving it a shot. He wrote a memoir in 2018, Big City Cat: My Life in Folk-Rock, which sounds like it was a challenge for him to revisit and write about his past, not because it seems like it was filled with mistakes and scandal, but because it was sooooo much about himself. He seems grateful for the opportunity to still have a career and does not take it for granted. He also makes some very hip and hot music references in our conversation: like bringing up rappers Megan Thee Stallion and Jack Harlow. Color me impressed, Steve Forbert is watching the Billboard Hot 100.Advertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brands

They discuss his latest album as well as his recent memoir. Steve is currently on tour and perhaps he's headed your way. Join our Patreon to become a preferred subscriber to this podcast and you'll receive access to a wealth of materials related to the show. We appreciate your support. With a mix of folk, roots-rock, and richly delivered storytelling, Steve Forbert is truly a pioneer of the roots-rock genre. He's been a torchbearer of the sound for more than four decades since, navigating the twists and turns of an acclaimed career that's taken him from gold records to Grammy nominations, from New York City's CBGB to Nashville's Bluebird Cafe, from his 1978 debut album to 2022's vital and versatile Moving Through America. The songs take centerstage once again with Moving Through America. Filled with character portraits and quirky insights, the album unfolds like a mosaic of modern-day American life, delivered by someone who's been crisscrossing the country for nearly half a century. With an author's nuance and a humorist's wit, Forbert offer glimpses into the everyday lives of his characters: a dog running from the sky's thunderclaps; a Houston man preparing to take his girlfriend out for fried oysters; a former drug dealer celebrating his freedom after incarceration; a road-tripping motorist steadily making his way across the midwest.Forbert inhabits each character, turning their storylines into first-person narratives that blur the lines between subject and scribe. Backed by the same band that appeared on his collection of cover songs, I, in 2020, he sounds every bit as spirited as he did in the late 1970s, back when he left his hometown of Meridian, Mississippi, and headed to New York in search of new horizons.

Dose of Leadership with Richard Rierson | Authentic & Courageous Leadership Development
Neil Giraldo was born in 1955 in Cleveland, Ohio. Immersed in the culture of his beloved Sicilian ancestry, his parents Anthony and Angela Giraldo instilled the love of music at a young age, giving Neil his first guitar at the age of six, with the hopes that he and his sister, Priscilla, who played the accordion, could entertain family and friends with songs from the old country after church on Sundays. As Neil got older, his mentor, Uncle Tim, introduced him to revolutionary bands like The Yardbirds, The Kinks, The Rolling Stones, and all the other great guitar-driven rock ‘n' roll bands of the 1960s. Finding new and innovative ways to shadow path his way into songs, Neil developed a discipline early on of not just playing along to his favorite artists but creating different parts for himself within those tracks. At the same time, the budding guitar artist also became proficient on piano by continuously practicing along to Chuck Berry (Johnnie Johnson), Fats Domino and Jerry Lee Lewis records. His interest in percussion instruments soon followed, practicing the drums to Simon & Garfunkel albums he explored how different rhythms could alter the complexion of songs. These practices and disciplines created the foundation for his future success as an innovative record producer and musician. Giraldo began his professional career in 1978 as a key member of the Rick Derringer band after competing against 200 other guitarists for the position. It wasn't long before Rick discovered Giraldo's piano playing prowess and quickly put those skills to work in the studio for the recording Guitars and Women. In the spring of 1979, Mike Chapman introduced Giraldo to an up-and-coming singer named Pat Benatar who had recently signed to Chrysalis Records. While impressed with the young vocalist, Chapman felt she needed a musical partner who could facilitate the creation of a sound both identifiable and powerful. Over the years Neil has produced some of their biggest hits including “Love is a Battlefield” and “We Belong.” With a back catalog of more than 100 songs written and more than 45 million records sold, Giraldo has written, produced, arranged, and recorded for Pat Benatar, John Waite, Rick Springfield, Kenny Loggins, Steve Forbert, The Del Lords, Beth Hart, The Coors, and others, which include many Grammy-nominated and Grammy-winning hits. Today, Giraldo's career is as dynamic and diverse as ever. He is in the process of completing two books – one an autobiographical novel, one a motivational book on the psychology of creating. He is further expanding his Bel Chiasso entertainment company, which is developing a variety of television, film and Broadway theater projects. On May 16th 2016 Neil founded Three Chord Bourbon to celebrate creativity, community, and tradition by bringing together the award-winning musician and producer's love of whiskey and music with his passion for conversations with family and friends. Inspired by the simplicity yet infinite expressions of the three chord progression — the foundation of the blues — Neil collaborated with master blender and distiller, Ari Sussman, to bring together notes of a variety of bourbons and create a distinctive taste in whiskey that balances simplicity and complexity in perfect harmony. Neil has utilized this new platform to assist emerging musicians via Three Chord Musical Ambassador program. On Episode 4 we explore the polarity of powerful lyrical content in songs many may struggle remembering. From the Southern Kisses of Steve Forbert's Romeo Tune, to the psychedelic escapades of Whiter Shade of Pale by Procol Harum, and finishing up with the painful pop of Suzanne Vega's Luka. "a sizzling blend of Americana, folk, rock, roots, reggae, and everything in between, that will get your toes tappin', your head noddin' up and down, your mouth singin', your brain thinkin' and maybe even get you dancin' in the aisles!"Ask Kenny Selcer why it is that he plays music, and he's likely to respond as though he was on stage. Without missing a beat, he becomes electric. He speaks of defying categories, breaking down barriers and fusing idioms and cultures. Of his live performances (whether solo or with his band) he says, "It's as though someone keeps changing the channel."Indeed, Kenny weaves a masterful, fluid thread through genre after genre in his riveting live performances in his solo performances (and with his bands). He traverses the musical map with infectious melodies and unstoppable rhythms. He soothes the spirit, rocks the house and melts into a seductive, bluesy groove. It's a unique uplifting sound that comes through both live and on disc! It's an uplifting and transcendent romp through style after style.Kenny is at equally at home on solo acoustic guitar as he is with a band. He has performed everywhere as a solo singer/songwriter honing his songs and solo performing on the vital New England acoustic scene. He has also led bands from duos to 6 pieces led by his mesmerizing guitar & intimate vocals. Whatever the musical situation he paints sparkling vignettes and visions exploring life's complexities and wonders. His latest CD is I Simplify.“Through candid storytelling and inspired guitar play, Kenny Selcer delivers a stimulating mind-body listening experience. Engaging tales of relationship pain, frustration, hope and desire will provoke listeners to revisit thoughts of their own relationships. Listeners will not, however, find themselves stewing in self-reflection for very long as Selcer's lively guitar licks send them truckin' on down the road to relationship renewal.” - Dennis Carlan, Lyric Tree Publishing"Kenny Selcer has put together an album of memorable tunes and sensational picking." - Joseph Tortelli, Music Business News"The entire work is one warm vibe that you ride through on the strength of Selcer's pleasant, mellifluous vocal." - Bill Copeland, www.billcopelandmusicnews.com/“Imagine David Bromberg, Jackson Browne, early Donovan, Steve Forbert, Tom Petty, and Paul Simon percolating in ...a room. That paints a clearer picture of Kenny's latest material. Further accented by his own copyright stamp the results are pure pleasure from the opening tune (the title cut) to the finale (which by the way ends with the reprise).” – Craig Fenton, Jefferson Airplane/Starship biographer“Selcer produces well-crafted songs with a variety of deliveries that makes the album an unexpected listening experience.” – Austindaze.comKenny's latest CD: “This is a wonderful CD! It is an excellent collection of well-crafted songs, sensitively presented. Your voice shines, your guitar-playing is perfection, the arrangements are excellent, whether you are playing & singing alone or presenting a song with one or more of your talented accompanists. I've enjoyed the album on a first listen, and even more on a second listen. It's a very hopeful collection of pieces. The songs go down easily – excellent melodies and chord choices.” Ellen Schmidt, musician, producer“The most powerful thing I've noticed about Kenny Selcer's album, Don't Forget About Me, is this: listening to it makes me feel good. Don't get me wrong- this isn't simple, superficial music. Nothing of the sort. These songs are songs that tell the truth about what it is like to be alive - facing loss, facing the future, facing our task here on earth: to create a life that is authentic & meaningful. How can I help but feel good in the presence of music that is this kind of real? Add to this, the fact that these are wonderfully crafted songs- that Kenny's voice rings true, and that his guitar playing is transcendental- and you have a winning combination. Thanks for making this for us all - you have cooked us up a delicious banquet of sound!” - Lynn McKenna, music lover, singer, musician
