He is also an auxiliary police officer with the Saltville Police Department and a licensed resident in counseling at Rivers of Hope Counseling, LLC, where he provides therapy with a focus on trauma, grief, and emotional resilience. Adam is trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy and holds professional credentials in Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM). He earned his bachelor's degree in criminal justice and a master's degree in clinical mental health counseling from Liberty University, where he is also currently pursuing his PhD in Trauma-Informed Care. As both a public safety professional and a mental health provider, Adam brings a unique “boots on the ground” perspective to conversations around suffering, identity, and healing. She speaks on topics such as sexual assault, sexual abuse, trauma, and suicide. Sherrie is a survivor of long-term sexual abuse, trauma, and suicide attempts. After much hard work and healing she became the founder and CEO of Courage Starts With You. For victims, Courage means telling someone and reaching out for help. For law enforcement, Courage means looking beyond the traditional victim interview technique to recognize how and why victims of assault may act differently than victims of crimes.   She purchased a cemetery plot, purchased the outfit she wanted to be buried in, and made the decision that morning was going to be the day Sherrie Allsup no longer lived to endure the pain she lived daily throughout her life. Yet, those were not the cards that she was dealt. That was the moment that she began to take her power back. Sherrie Allsup's journey took a profound turn when faced with the contemplation of ending her life, she instead chose to reclaim her power. She now travels and shares her story to shine a light on the lifelong challenges that sexual abuse and trauma leave behind. Her pieces of training are centered around shining a light on the dark epidemic of sexual abuse and assault. She is also a member of RAINN (Rape, Abuse, Incest, and Neglect Network). She says, “Trauma victims almost live plan to plan or we wouldn't survive.” Embracing Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) psychotherapy, Sherrie embarked on a new chapter. Send us a textChad Burpee is a proud father, brother, and a son. Though he grew up in Maine, life's journey eventually led him to Texas. With a deep sense of duty and service, he dedicated 20 years of his life to law enforcement, serving in Lancaster County, Nebraska, and later in Dallas, Texas. Before that, he honorably served his country as a United States Air Force veteran from 1995 to 1999 with the 314th Security Forces Squadron. His service took him on two tours in the Middle East, and he had the distinct privilege of working with the Presidential Detail for President William Clinton and Air Force One.  On July 7, 2016, Chad's life was forever changed. That night, in the heart of Dallas, he found himself in the midst of one of the deadliest attacks on law enforcement in U.S. history—the Dallas 5 ambush. As chaos unfolded, 11 officers were shot, and tragically, 5 of his brothers in blue lost their lives. The weight of that night and the years of service before it left lasting scars, both seen and unseen.  Now medically retired, Chad has turned his pain into purpose. He openly shares his journey of battling anxiety, depression, and PTSD, hoping to be a light for others who are struggling. Send us a textIn 2009, Sean joined the US Marines and served in the infantry. In 2011, Sean deployed to Sangin Valley, Helmand Province, Afghanistan. In 2013, Sean decided to extend his contract of service for the opportunity to go back to Afghanistanwith his unit. This time he served in Garmsir, Helmand Province, Afghanistan. While being tasked to preform aerial and ground interdiction, Sean led his team on numerous operations.  In 2014, he left the Marines and took the civil service test and was fortunate enough to be selected by the Morris County Sheriff's Office. During that time, he worked with the Morris County Prosecutors Office narcotics division.  In 2014-2018 Sean started losing guys he was deployed with to suicide. He has now lost more friends to Suicide than he has in Combat. While he searched himself for his new purpose, he dedicated his time to trying to help prevent veteran suicide. In 2015, he started working for Parsippany Police Department by serving as a Patrolman.   He has made it his mission and passion to help others, aquality he gained from his family. In 2024, He opened Abrusci's Coffee in Budd Lake, New Jersey.  He learned that Coffee is what made all the above possible. It wasn't just about caffeine to get through long days, but the sense of community provided by gathering around the ritual of serving coffee, and the opportunity it provided to take a moment to brainstorm how to push through obstacles, decompress and talk about what just happened.  In Law Enforcement he saw how coffee brought everyone together to subtract themselves from what call or operation they just had. He was drafted in the second round, 39th overall, by the Hartford Whalers in the 1987 NHL Entry Draft.Adam played four seasons for the Ontario Hockey League's North Bay Centennials before joining the Whalers organization. He made his NHL debut for Hartford in the 1988–89 season, and he remained with the franchise through its transformation into the Carolina Hurricanes in 1997. Burt parted ways with the Hurricanes on March 6, 1999, when he was traded to the Philadelphia Flyers. Send us a textTom began his distinguished career with the NYPD in 1990, following his graduation from the Academy. He was assigned to the 30th Precinct in West Harlem, one of the busiest precincts in the department at the time. From 1996 to 1999, Tom served in the Bronx Narcotics Unit, where he was involved in multiple large-scale narcotics operations. One of his most notable cases was a joint operation with the DEA, which led to the seizure of 125 kilos of cocaine from Venezuela—still the largest cocaine bust in the history of the Bronx Narcotics Unit. The operation also resulted in the arrest of several members of a Venezuelan drug cartel.In 1999, Tom was transferred to the Bronx Gang Unit, where he worked on a high-profile investigation that led to the federal arrest of "OG Mac," the leader of the East Coast Bloods Street Gang. During the early morning hours of September 14, 2021, Mantua Township Police arrived first on the scene and were confronted with a man armed with a gun. Shortly after the shooting, an investigation was completed by the New Jersey State Police Shooting Response Team along with the Attorney General's Office.Once the investigation was completed, Corporal Oldrati was cleared to return to work in October 2021. According to the Mantua Township Use of Force Policy, Volume 1 Chapter 12, pages 7 through 10 states. In May of 2023, twenty months after returning to full patrol duty, Corporal Oldrati was wrongfully indicted and accused of 2nd Degree Reckless Manslaughter by the Attorney General's Office of Public Integrity and Accountability (OPIA). He also is a varsity boys volleyball player as a freshman and will entering his sophomore year in volleyball this spring. Shane maintains a high grade point average and is very academic. Shane has been playing  quarterback since he was 6 and has a passion for football. He definitely aspires to play football in college. Shane has been unfortunate the last few years with injuries. During his 8th grade campaign he tore a tendon in his ankle while playing in the championship game. His freshman year he broke his middle finger on this throwing hand and this current season he fractured his elbow opening day during the 3rd quarter. The injury required surgery and it looked like he would be out for the season! Shane returned to play in the last game of the season. Against the odds and with many people telling him not to play he did. He led the 0-8 Vikings to their first victory 27-0. Shane reasoning is it was more about the team than me. If I could bring them together and compete, end the season on a high note, then we can ride that into next season.Patrick Donaldson is a high school freshman who has a passion for football since he began playing in 3rd grade. His yearly goal, which include multiple sports, all focus around staying physically fit for football season. During the first game on the 2024 season, Patrick fell and broke his wrist. After suffering this emotional trauma Ed went to Virginia to live with his dad, where he discovered alcohol.Ed came back to Jersey at the age of 16 where he started running the streets and getting into trouble. He did his first prison bid at 24,and his second one at 28.Ed went on the run after shooting someone, but he received news from a doctor that he would need a heart transplant if he wanted to live. Receiving a successful heart transplant he still drank alcohol. Taking advice from  a nurse, Ed woke up and got sober.After being arrested and facing a ton of time Ed reconnected with GOD in jail, his charges mysteriously got dropped, and he got a second chance to be a father to his young daughter.But the journey is not over yet, Ed is still in need of a kidney. It would have been 13 children had her mother not have 5 miscarriages that spared an additional 5 innocent children being born to a cult-like life. Growing up Chasya right away didn't fit in. There are no exceptions when born into the ultra religious sect. She was expected to follow her traditions, and the 613 commandments that come with the religion she was told she was so lucky and privileged to be a part of. Chasya didn't buy into all the restrictions and no you can't do that to 98% of the things that Chasya desired. Chasya wanted so badly to be an American and do what Americans do. Chasya wanted to be seen as a human being not another bar code stamped on her forehead saying she was something she didn't ask for nor did she desire. Her youth was unbearable - she already started to live a double life -seeing how much beatings I endured for reasons that would blow a normal persons mind-she- secretly bringing a change of clothing into her friends car and began to dabble in escaping any way that she could. Soon she wouldn't have to escape because it became clear she wasn't going to be accepted anymore in her family's circle anyways - and she was to be sent away at 14. After school years were over Chasya returned back to the cult but she already tasted freedom & tasted escapism and there was no going back. Send us a textYou can take the girl outta Texas, but you can't take Texas outta the girl.  Despite some hardships, the Texas grit has re-emerged in Yvonne, along with the fight and warrior spirit engrained into her from her hardworking and moral parents.  Yvonne Rogers was born February 2, 1968 at Reese AFB, Texas, in Lubbock County. She is the youngest and only girl of three children.  Her father, a Texas native, enlisted in the Navy during WWII and retired in the early 1970s after Vietnam, having also served in the reserves.  Yvonne's mother was born in Hiroshima, Japan and is a survivor of the atomic bomb. Yvonne grew up in Lubbock, Texas and played violin throughout her school years.  She was editor of her high school newspaper and yearbook.  She graduated from Texas TechUniversity in 1990 with a bachelor's degree in writing and editing.  Shortly after graduation, Yvonne moved to San Angelo, Texas, where she met and married her first husband. Utilizing her writing and editing skills, Yvonne has worked in a variety of capacities as a government contractor, in local municipalities, and in the legal field. Mother of one daughter and a step-son, she is currently married to Patrick, a retired police officer. Send us a Text Message.Stefanie Shellhamer is a 32-year-old born and raised in New Jersey. She is a daughter, sister, aunt and friend. Stefanie is the daughter of retired police captain Peter Shellhamer, whom she adored very much. She has a unique understanding and perspective of law enforcement because of this relationship. Unfortunately, her father passed away suddenly in September of 2021 at 59, due to complications from Covid-19. This was a devastating blow filled with sorrow and confusion, as her father was an extremely healthy man, never smoked, and with no underlying conditions. Stefanie used this enormous loss to push her further into a career she is passionate about. A few months after his death, she applied and was accepted to graduate school at Ramapo College. Stefanie knew for many years that she wanted to be a therapist, but also had a knack for connecting and understanding people in a more social perspective. This led her to choose a Masters in Social Work and pursue this degree in a clinical lens, or in other words, become a licensed therapist.  Stefanie will also be pursuing a drug and alcohol counseling license during her time in graduate school. This is something very near and dear to her as she is also a recovering addict with 5 years clean and sober. Stefanie is a member of a 12-step fellowship and volunteers much of her time to sharing her story, in hopes of helping the new person coming into recovery. The strength and perseverance it requires to overcome a crippling opioid addiction is something she attributes to her strong foundation. Stefanie feels that her success in recovery is due in part to her father, who never gave up on her, and refused to let her give up on herself. The theme of recovery from addiction, grief, and life after loss are all vital to her story. Stefanie believes that people are innately good, however the twists and turns we encounter on this road called life can throw us off course. This is why she chooses clinical social work and will continue to make a difference in her career and personal connections.
