Danielle DiMartino Booth, CEO and Chief Strategist for QI Research, a research and analytics firm, returns to The Julia La Roche Show for episode 143. In this episode, Danielle provides an update on the economy, highlighting the challenges faced by the job market and the increase in layoffs. She discusses the impact of the white collar recession and the decline in net worth for high-income individuals. DiMartino Booth also shares her insights on the market performance and the Federal Reserve's approach to interest rates. She suggests a question for Fed Chair Powell regarding the regulatory changes and their impact on the financial system. Additionally, DiMartino Booth emphasizes the importance of backlogs as an indicator and discusses the current state of the economy in an election year. A global thought leader in monetary policy, economics, and finance, DiMartino Booth founded QI Research in 2015. She is the author of FED UP: An Insider's Take on Why the Federal Reserve is Bad for America (Portfolio, Feb 2017), a business speaker, and a commentator frequently featured on CNBC, Bloomberg, Fox News, Fox Business News, BNN Bloomberg, Yahoo Finance and other major media outlets. The current recession can be characterized as a white collar recession, with high-income individuals experiencing a decline in net worth. The market performance is driven by the anticipation of Federal Reserve rate cuts, but the timing and extent of these cuts are uncertain. HAPPY NEW YEAR !!! THANK YOU FOR TUNING IN THIS PAST YEAR OF 2023 TOO!!In this episode, we look back at several people we have featured through the years who passed away during 2023. They included Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor, former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger, former Congressman John Jenrette, Former First Lady Rosalynn Carter, and Senator Dianne Feinstein of California. Sadly, Congressman Jenrette passed away just as we were completing our series on him and his eventful and often colorful career. We also lost two of my favorite entertainers this year, Jimmy Buffett and Tony Bennett, both of whom we tried to work into our show intro. Tony Bennett was also a World War 2 Veteran who served in Europe. As we look forward to 2024, we will be introducing some new features to our podcast, our new "Grand Strand Politics" segment which will cover the coming South Carolina Presidential Primary for both the Republican and Democratic Parties. Plus we will begin our new monthly interview segments with various figures involved in South Carolina and National politics. We hope these new features will add a level of excitement to our podcast over the next 12 months. We are, in this episode, also previewing our sister podcast "The Richard Nixon Experience" which will be rebroadcasting our earlier series "Nixon and Watergate" all this year as we head up to the 50th Anniversary of the resignation of President Richard Nixon. We have a lot planned on our other podcast for the commemoration and invite you to tune in over there and head over to our website www.RandalWallace.com to look at our episodes, our books, and our "2024 Richard Nixon Vindication Tour" T-Shirts. We hope you will join our efforts to expose the wrongs done our 37th President, Richard Nixon, in this 50th anniversary year of the resignation, and as we go through again the dubious ways it came about happening. We also have three more seasons of Historical Podcast Documentaries planned and in this episode we will be previewing them as well. We will look back at the consequential Presidency of George H. W. Bush as he has more foreign and domestic policy decisions to make in a monumental moment of historic change around the world. In "George H. W. Bush 1990 - 1991 The Sweep of History" and "George H. W. Bush 1992 The Changing of the Guard" Then we come to the end of the World War 2 Generations four decades at the center of American Power, as we look back at the last public figure of the era, in "Bob Dole 1993 - 1996 The Last Man Standing", as Dole attempts to hold off the government overreach that has become the hallmark of the Federal Government of the past 30 years. It would be the last stand of the reasonable type Leadership we had seen from the Greatest Generation that had created the American Century and it will leave us all with the question as to whether we have been worthy of the legacy they left us. Overall, I think we have an exciting and interesting 2024 planned here at the "Randal Wallace Presents" and "Richard Nixon Experience " Podcasts. We hope you will tune in, and we thank you for the years of loyal listening as we enter our 4th year and 12th thru 15th seasons on the air. Ed Dowd EXCESS DEATHS, STATE CONTROL & WHY RFK JR. CAN WIN THE DEMOCRATIC PRESIDENTIAL RACE https://londonreal.tv/ https://rumble.com/c/LondonRealTV 23,639 views • June 2, 2023 Founder of Phinance Technologies Get The Book Today's live stream features one of our most popular and talked about guests, Ed Dowd, whose revelatory analysis of the data surrounding the Covid-19 vaccine rollout garnered enormous attention and continues to place him under the spotlight of the censorship industrial complex. Ed has made a career out of deciphering what's true and absolute in order to better serve the financial investments he made as one of Wall Street's leading hedge fund gurus. As a former equity portfolio manager and founding partner of the global macro alternative investment firm, Phinance Technologies, Ed has spent his working life on Wall Street, specialising in both the credit and equity markets. Fresh out of college, Ed's interest in the world of finance saw him take up a position at HSBC, the largest bank in Europe, selling bonds as an institutional fixed-income salesperson. Ed describes it as a five-year education in what really happens in the capital markets, as opposed to the “garbage” you learn in the textbooks. Ed went on to spend time as an Equity Research Associate with Donaldson Lufkin & Jenrette, before serving as Managing Director and Equity Portfolio Manager at the world's largest asset management firm, BlackRock. Ed oversaw a $2 billion fund that grew to $14 billion during a prosperous ten years with the firm. Ed understands the markets, Wall Street and the systems at play better than most and he believes we are at the beginning of a deflationary cycle, and embroiled in a recession that will only continue to get worse. Ed also warns that a global financial collapse is a mathematical certainty, and the next 24 months will be pivotal as regional banks disappear and the big players remain, paving the way for a central bank digital currency. “The dollar is a fiat debt-based credit system. For every dollar created, there's an associated one-dollar debt. It needs constant credit creation to keep it going. The reason they want to introduce the CBDC is because they know that we're at the end of this epic supercycle debt bubble and it's gonna implode whether they want it to or not.” This knowledge and experience saw Ed's life take a full 180 back in March 2020 and then only gathered pace in the ensuing months as Ed questioned the motive around vaccine passports and started looking more closely at the use of data in understanding the realities of the Covid pandemic. Ed wrote a book, “Cause Unknown: The Epidemic of Sudden Deaths in 2021 & 2022” which explores in the most intricate detail why we have seen a sudden surge of deaths in working-age people that, most significantly, were not attributed to Covid-19. Ed found that insurance companies were seeing a 40% increase in excess mortality among working-age adults during the fourth quarter of 2021. Millennials aged 25 to 44 had an 84% increase in excess mortality in that same timeframe. And most significantly, since the rollout of the vaccine the number of Americans who claim to be disabled has risen by at least 10%. Ed believes that Covid-19 provided cover for central banks and governments, allowing them to temporarily hide the reality that the financial system is crashing. It also allowed for the governments to deflect from the fallout of food shortages, energy price rises and failing finance systems. Ed became obsessed with the data around excess mortality and his ability and knowledge allowed him to run the numbers, analyse statistics and seek out evidence that was actually hiding in plain sight. Ed has taken the brave decision to put himself out there, to share the data that he believes has far reaching consequences but that ultimately the data itself and the sudden deaths of so many young and healthy people should be a major and immediate public health concern. Of course Ed has found himself on the wrong side of a censorship war and in making public his opinions and concerns has seen his life take on a brand new direction. His expertise and attention to detail have seen him recently positioned as co-treasurer for Robert F Kennedy's presidential push and by all accounts that campaign is hitting home. “The biggest trend emerging is TRUTH & INTEGRITY. The folks exhibiting it today will be the future leaders of tomorrow as the current system of leaders propping it up are exposed. It's a tiny trend now but will grow.” Ed is a serious guy who knows his stuff and I can't wait to get his thoughts on everything that is happening, as we enter a deflationary period and the rollout of a CBDC comes to fruition. As well as taking a deeper dive into the shocking statistics he's uncovered during his research, Ed will also explain how he has found himself the target of censorship and propaganda while attempts to take down his website have, so far, failed. This is going to be a biggy, so strap yourselves in and share this message with all like-minded friends and family. “I predicted vaccine passports, I predicted central bank digital currency, I predicted mandates, and they all came to pass, I was called a crazy conspiracy theorist in 2020…” Trailer Watch the trailer for this exclusive video interview with Ed Dowd: Download clips A number of clips from this exclusive interview are now available to download, share and repost. Election Night 1980. The Iran Hostage Crisis is going on, the economy is struggling, and the ABSCAM scandal has several candidates seeking re-election while either under indictment or after conviction. It is with this back drop that both of our subjects, Representative John Jenrette and President Jimmy Carter, are facing re-election. It did not go well for either of them. In this episode we will let you watch the evening progress as the networks zero in on the ABSCAM Defendants elections for at least some drama because the Carter efforts are fairing so badly. Ronald Reagan will be elected in a landslide and John Jenrette will lose in a surprising squeaker to John Napier. This election is also a treat because it will feature just about everyone , save Lyndon Johnson, we have focused on throughout our podcast run. Jimmy Carter, John Jenrette, Henry Kissinger, Barbara Walters, Frank Reynolds, Ted Koppel, Walter Cronkite, and even Richard Nixon will all be featured at some point through out the night. Finally, the episode will end as former President Gerald Ford is interviewed while Ronald Reagan comes out to address the nation for the first time as President - Elect and the two will talk on live TV. It is a big night for the Republican Party as they win the Presidency and the Senate for the first time in a generation and break the New Deal Coalition that had dominated the nations politics since 1932. In this episode we follow Jimmy Carter's decision to normalize relations with the People's Republic of China. It was one of the most important decisions of Carter's term as President. It was also a decision that ended our recognition of the government of the Republic of China on Taiwan. A decision that was met with some level of anger in the United States. It was a bold move.We will listen in on reaction to the decision in real time as the MacNeil/Lehrer PBS Newshour covered the news with guests National Security Advisor Zbigniew Brzezinski, New York Representative Lester Wolf and Kansas Senator Bob Dole. We will hear from President Carter both at the time and in his later years as he discusses the relationship with China and why he made the decisions he did at the the time. Finally, we will listen into ABC News with Frank Reynolds as he covers the Chinese Vice Premier Deng Xiaoping, arguably China's most important leader of the century, as he visited the United States, on a months notice, where he visited the Houston Space Center, attended a western rodeo, and generally charmed the American People like few leaders ever have especially one from a Communist Power. In this episode we start out with one of Congressman John Jenrette's more fun legacies, the comedy troupe "The Capital Steps" , which entertained people all over the nation for nearly four decades until they finally shutdown during the Covid 19 pandemic. They were laugh out loud funny and I had the privilege of seeing them many times through the years and had not known the tie to John Jenrette (They were DC Staffers who took their name from the Playboy reported liaison Jenrette and his wife had on the steps of the Capital) until they sang about it at performance I attended in Washington D.C. in 2015. This episode is also the only one we put together after Congressman Jenrette died, which occurred near the end of the production of our series. I thought it was important to read into the record his beautifully written obituary that covers so many of the accomplishments he was able to make happen during his time in Congress and in the South Carolina State House. We also wanted to take a moment to ask for a call to action for our listeners to let their legislators and local elected officials know that you would like to see the congressman finally get the recognition he deserves for all his years of service as a representative, congressman, and as a citizen in our community. He really did help lay the foundation for much of the phenomenal growth and success our region of South Carolina has enjoyed over the past four decades. Finally, we allow John Jenrette to have the final word in this section of our series focused on him this season. We have the last interview he gave near the end of his 2019 book tour for the book "The Capital Steps and Missteps" about his life and career. It is a poignant interview and an honest one, in which he talks about his accomplishments and mistakes. It is also an interview in which his illness is very apparent. But I thought it important to share it with you and important to allow this podcast docuseries focused on his life and career, give John Jenrette the last word on his remarkable life and career. I want to simply say a thank you to Dianne Devaughn Stokes, and her husband Chuck Stokes, for allowing us to use the interview and their personal work in editing it into such a powerful final talk with the Congressman. John Jenrette really lived an incredible life and it has been a privilege and an honor to be able to share the story with you, we hope you learned some things you may not have known and enjoyed the trip as we went through it all. From here on out, we will be focusing on the Administration of Jimmy Carter in the remainder of our 10th Season. History Nerds UnitedLet's make history fun again! This episode for our Host Randal Wallace may be the most fun of any we have done. It tells the story of the life of the Congressional District and region of South Carolina that was the 6th District of South Carolina. It opens after ABSCAM has ended John Jenrette's career and everyone involved is moving on from the scandal. The District was represented by John Napier for a single term, then by a Florence , South Carolina Democrat named Robin Tallon for a number of years. But after the 1990 census the former 6th District is divided up geographically and its political strength evaporates. Tallon steps down as James Clyburn is elected to serve the new 6th District which engulfs Florence County. While Horry County is placed in the South Carolina First District where it is dominated by Charleston S.C. Over the next twenty years the region has several different Congressman all but one of which is from Charleston County with various interest levels for what is happening in Horry and Georgetown Counties. We are represented by Tommy Hartnett, Arthur Ravenell, Mark Sanford, Henry Brown (Berkely County) , and Tim Scott. Then in 2010 everything changed. A new census led to a big fight in the South Carolina State House as the state was awarded a new 7th Congressional District. We will see the maneuverings by the man who could rightfully be called the Father of the 7th district, Alan Clemmons, lead to the South Carolina Pee Dee Region finally getting its seat back in which the region was represented together. That is where the fun part for our Host begins as we relive that very first race for Congress and the election of that first 7th district Congressman ensues. which eventually led to the election of Tom Rice. A race in which our host, Randal Wallace, was a small part as a candidate for Congress. We will also see the rise of our new Congressman Russell Fry, who attained the office just at the beginning of this year , 2024, after his endorsement by former President Donald Trump, and his historic election victory. All of which will lead us back to a final look at the remarkable life and contributions to our region of our first, and until this year, only Horry County native Congressman John Jenrette. His career was a rollercoaster ride of wild excess, historic success, and an enormously dramatic and historic fall, all of which happened in a pivotal 6 year period that laid the foundation for a region of the country that can now lay claim to the title the fastest growing area in the nation. This episode is a special profile of the great survivor of the collapse of the career of John Jenrette. It is the story of his ex-wife Rita Jenrette. She has led a life no novelist would have dared to create. She was married to a charismatic Congressman who self destructed in front of the country, posed in Playboy Magazine, wrote a tell all book, became a B-Movie actress, then a tabloid reporter for "A Current Affair", then got her Real Estate and commodities license and had an enormously successful career in New York City doing mega millions deals with the likes of Donald Trump. Only to walk away on the arm of a real life Prince and move to his palatial Villa in Rome, Italy. Where she helped renovate the historic estate that featured actual art work from Michelangelo among other historically significant artists of history. You just can't make this stuff up. So we will just tell this unbelievable part of the story in this episode. We also want to thank a special friend for loaning us her acting and reading skills for this episode. I think we are all happier our host Randal Wallace did not attempt to read Rita Jenrette's portion of The Diary of a Mad Congressman's Wife himself. We were lucky to find an extraordinary talent to do that for us. Though she asked not to be named. “This is not a message of happiness or reassurance,'' Carter said in his remarks 40 years ago, “but it is the truth and it is a warning.'' In a speech given in July of 1979, witten about here in an article titled "Jimmy Carter and the meaning of Malaise" from JSTOR Daily: "Carter proclaimed that the nation was suffering a “crisis in confidence” which struck “at the very heart and soul and spirit of our national will.” He called upon the nation to reflect upon its meaning and purpose, and critiqued American materialism. The immediate response was generally favorable. “No president since Abraham Lincoln had spoken to the American people with such sincerity about matters of the spirit,” gushed presidential historian Theodore White. Polls indicated that 61 percent of the public said the speech inspired further confidence. Seventy-two percent said they were willing to sacrifice to help solve the energy crisis, which had been Carter's major policy plea. The president's approval ratings went up twelve points."But it was in fact, the beginning of the end of the Carter years. With in the next few months he would be challenged by Ted Kennedy, have Sky Lab fall out the sky, have gas lines throughout the country and have the biggest crisis of his term begin in Iran. This speech about "A Crisis in Confidence" in america would come to symbolize the lack of confidence Americans were growing to have in Jimmy Carter. Carter would reshuffle his cabinet and try to provide leadership for the nation instead, as one Southern Governor put it " :“Mr. President, you are not leading this nation — you're just managing the government.'' Which is an image Jimmy Carter could never really shake with the American public. Despite many accomplishments Jimmy Carter had during his term much of the feeling that the President was a dour, pessimistic leader, really began with this speech. Though the speech itself was really a call to action to deal with the energy problems the nation had and that Carter believed could be corrected, and that given the proper leadership we as a nation could become an export and energy leader rather than be myriad in problems created by competitors who wanted to hurt the American economy. The fact is Jimmy Carter was right. Years later we would become the number one energy producer in the world. This speech actually aged well, long after it could no longer do any good for a President who would be turned out of office after only a single term. This is the episode where we listen in as Congressman John Jenrette's career comes crashing to its end. A sad ending to what had been an extraordinarily brave career that had seen John Jenrette help so many of his constituents with issue after issue, championing the causes of the nations small farmers, and standing up to protect the African American constituents so long forgotten or ignored by almost every other leader in the region he had represented. We will contrast the unraveling of his career with that of another ABSCAM defendant who put up a fight rather than going quietly about giving up his seat in the Congress. We will look at the expulsion of Congressman Ozzie Meyers, and listen in on his attempt to defend himself on the floor of the House of Representatives. You will also get to hear and contrast for yourself the difference in the two cases involving Meyers and Jenrette. Finally, we will read to you several portions of Federal Judge John Garrett Penn's decision in the case of John Jenrette and John Stowe. It is an eye opening opinion in which you can sense his outrage over the government's behaviour in this particular ABSCAM case and especially in the case that was made against John Stowe who was John Jenrette's co-defendant in the case. By the time we get to the end of the episode it will certainly paint John Jenrette's case in a far more human light than many have come to perceive it in the 40 years since. In this episode, we will lay out the case made by the government against Congressman John Jenrette. We will also go through the differences between this one case and literally all the other cases involved in the scandal known as ABSCAM. We will also examine the daunting task John Jenrette faced as all of this unfolded as he was indicted and tried during an election year. An election year that would see him having to run in both a primary election and a general election against a formidable Republican candidate, who had once been an aid to Senator Strom Thurmond, in John Light Napier. In this episode , our host Randal Wallace will read to you the oral history from the University of South Carolina of John Napier as he tells his rather remarkable story of how he put together a campaign that would eventually get him elected to the United States House of Representatives, in what would be a stunningly close race against John Jenrette, even though the incumbent Congressman, had been indicted, tried, and convicted, as the race unfolded. In this episode we let you listen to the only set of start to finish tapes that I am aware of that are available to the public, at least that I could find. These tapes involve Congressman John Murtha , who was targeted but was never indicted. John Murtha would go on and serve long enough after ABSCAM that he would become the longest serving Congressman in Pennsylvania history. I will say that this is a situation that I do not like to do given that Murtha had a long and distinguished career and never was charged, or tried, and certainly never convicted, of any wrongdoing in the case of ABSCAM. So let me just say in this description that we are only using this audio footage because it is the only footage that is available , that we were able to find, that contains an entire meeting between the FBI, the conman, and a sitting member of Congress. All the the other footage is only segments of the sting the FBI ran on the Congressmen. I do feel though that when you listen in on this meeting, with stunningly clear audio, you will get a feel for how these meetings went and how these governmental officials were set up for the ABSCAM sting. What was Abscam? In this episode we try an answer that question for those of you who may not remember, or be as familiar with, what many will recall was the second biggest political scandal of the 1970's and early 1980's. It involved six United States Congressman and one United States Senator. They were :US Senator Harrison A. Williams (D-NJ)US Representative Frank Thompson (D-NJ)US Representative John Jenrette (D-SC)US Representative Raymond Lederer (D-PA)US Representative Michael "Ozzie" Myers (D-PA)US Representative John M. Murphy (D-NY)US Representative Richard Kelly (R-FL)It was basically a criminal sting operation conducted by the FBI using a known conman, Mel Weinberg, to set up various elected officials at several levels of the Government. It is the same scandal used for the basis of the movie " American Hustle". It was not just Congressman but also 23 other elected and governmental officials who were eventually netted into the criminal takedown. It also included one member of the New Jersey State Senate, members of the Philadelphia City Council, the Mayor of Camden, New Jersey, and an inspector for the United States Immigration and Naturalization Service who were all also convicted. The operation was directed from the FBI's office in Hauppauge, New York, and was under the supervision of Assistant Director Neil J. Welch, who headed the bureau's New York Division, and Thomas P. Puccio, head of the Justice Department's Organized Crime Task Force for the Eastern Division of New York.In all of these cases it stemmed from an investigation into theft, forgery, and stolen art. The FBI enlisted the help of a convicted conman to help them run a sting on criminals but as they made their way up the food chain they found they could nab some high ranking elected officials. All of the elected officials were somehow connected to this investigation. All but one. That one case that was the exception was the case of Representative John Jenrette of the 6th District of South Carolina, OUR CONGRESSMAN. In this episode you will hear from the conman himself, you will listen in as the FBI moves in on the congressmen in question, and you will listen in just as the nation did as all of this unfolded. Ironically, the only story they rarely talked about in this early stage of the game, will be the story of John Jenrette, and as we will show you there are reasons for that. The Camp David Accords were the crowning achievement of the Jimmy Carter Administration foreign Policy. This episode tells the dramatic story of how Jimmy Carter was able to get these two old warriors together at Camp David in order to make it happen. Egyptian President Anwar Sadat was very ready and willing to try and make the peace but an election in Israel with a surprise outcome changed the entire situation, as the hardline, conservative Likud Party was elected and Menachem Begin became the Israeli Prime Minister. Jimmy Carter found himself in a situation where one side, Egypt, trusted him completely and the other side , Israel, did not trust him at all. For thirteen days, the three men, held up at Camp David, and ironed out an agreement. It came after several emotional moments between the three men in which both Begin and Sadat almost walked out of the negotiations. But each time Jimmy Carter managed to figure out ways to save the day and keep both sides talking. The end result was an agreement in principle. That would need to be followed up upon later. That later almost never happened, and would not have, without the leadership of Jimmy Carter and his willingness to step up at a moment of great political peril for him personally to insure it would happen. This episode will tell this dramatic story about how the world was made a much safer place by the stubborn leadership of an American President who rarely gets the credit he deserved for the leadership he provided at a pivotal moment in world history. Tom welcomes back Danielle DiMartino Booth, she is CEO and Chief Strategist for Quill Intelligence, a research and analytics firm. Danielle has a new offering on the Substack she recently started. Tom and Danielle discuss the recently released Fed Minutes and the potential implications for the US economy. DiMartino Booth stated that the minutes were massaged in order to correct any market misperceptions that the Fed was going to pause its tight monetary policy. She also points out that jobs were not mentioned in the minutes, even though bankruptcies and job losses are on the rise, and that consumer credit card debt had jumped to an all-time high. DiMartino Booth argues that the Fed was trying to hide behind specious inflation and jobs data in order to keep up its tight policy stance, and she notes that income tax refunds were down 14% year-over-year. They also discussed the debt limit issue, which DiMartino Booth describes as kabuki theater, but argued that it should still be a topic of discussion in order to address entitlement spending. Lastly, DiMartino Booth discusses the recent nomination of Austin Goolsbee to the Chicago Fed and the White House's subsequent appointment of two more candidates after the leaked voting result against Goolsbee. This, she argued, was a victory for the hawks on the Fed and a loss for the White House. She also highlighted the recalculation of CPI, which she believes will help the Fed when it eventually eases its policy. Danielle discusse the Fed's minutes from the last meeting which just came out. Tom welcomes back Danielle DiMartino Booth, she is CEO and Chief Strategist for Quill Intelligence, a research and analytics firm. Danielle DiMartino Booth provides a comprehensive overview of the Fed's balance sheet reduction policy, implications of this policy, and changes to the voting committee. She believes that the current mortgage rates are too high, making it difficult for the Fed to hit their target of rolling off $35 billion of mortgage-backed securities each month. This has resulted in losses of $1.25 trillion over the first three quarters of the year. Tom suggests that the Fed should do a study of how inflation got so high. Danielle counters that the Fed has some pretty good ideas. She also mentions that the job openings data has been disproved by academics and that a large portion of job postings are for poaching successful employees. Danielle expects Powell to be patient until the effects show up in the fiancial market. Lastly, she notes the upcoming rotation of the voting committee which is shifting in a dovish direction but Powell has veto power to push back against dissenters. Tom welcomes back Danielle DiMartino Booth, she is CEO and Chief Strategist for Quill Intelligence, a research and analytics firm. Danielle discusses the amount of work that goes into every press release the Fed puts out. They have a hypersensitivity to how and what they place in these releases. Powell has a largely thankless job, and the question is are they relying on lagging information. Danielle recently nicknamed Jerome Powell "make my day Jay" when he was told the markets were up during a press conference. We're seeing larger moves in housing than was expected. Home prices are falling in half of the U.S. while some regions see prices still increasing as some people see it as an opportunity. Amazon needs to match consumer demand, and we see them laying off people as demand declines. We're now seeing surplus inventory in the supply chains that no one is buying. Powell's pain point will come when something critical breaks in the credit markets. A yield curve inversion signalled that credit would be tightening. However, now the way to interpret it is in terms of banks extending credit. If banks can't see profit in lending, they won't lend, and then the economy will slow. Lastly, Danielle discusses the recent FTX crypto exchange collapse and the concept of Central Bank Digital Currencies. Tom notes that the Ontario Teachers Pension had 90+ million invested in FTX. This is not the place you expect to find your pension plan investing diligently.
