Both teams enter the contest at 3-6 (1-5), but seem to be headed in opposite directions. Coach Deion Sanders' Buffaloes have allowed over 50 points in two straight blowout losses. Meanwhile, Rich Rodriguez and the Mountaineers are coming off their first Big 12 win of the season; a 45-35 victory on the road against a ranked Houston Cougars squad. This game will feature two freshmen quarterbacks. Scotty Fox Jr. will start for WVU. After being thrust into action due to injuries to the veteran quarterbacks ahead of him, the Ohio native is coming off two solid performances. He threw for over 300 yards in a loss at home against TCU. He then accounted for three scores in last week's win at Houston. Former five-star recruit Julian Lewis is getting the start for Colorado. The 6-foot-2 inch sophomore is a 3-star recruit per 247 Sports and currently plays at Northwest Mississippi Community College. The West Virginia Mountaineers will go on the road to take on the 22nd ranked Houston Cougars in game six of their Big 12 Conference schedule. WVU is coming off a close loss at home to TCU, while Houston is coming off a big win over number 24 Arizona State. Houston is led by one of the league's best defenses. They are number 21 in the country in scoring defense, number 36 in total defense, 38th in rushing defense and number 52 in passing yards allowed. Meanwhile, WVU football's offense is one of the worst in the country. Rich Rodriguez's unit ranks 98th in total offense, 113th in scoring and 114th in passing offense. The Mountaineers are top 50 nationally in rushing offense, coming in at number 47. Zac Alley's Mountaineer defense, led by safety Fred Perry and linebacker Chase Wilson, will be charged with slowing down the Houston offense led by quarterback Conner Weigman. The junior transfer from Texas A&M has thrown for 1,581 yards and 12 touchdowns. He has also ran for 354 yards on 87 carries. WVU football coach Rich Rodriguez has admitted that he and his staff missed on evaluating many of the players brought in from the transfer portal in 2025. He also confessed that WVU did not have the money they needed at the time to bring in a lot of high-end talent. After another ugly loss in Big 12 play by WVU football, this time to the BYU Cougars, were there any positive takeaways from WVU's performance? WVU men's basketball coach, Ross Hodge, has reportedly filled the final spot on his 2025-26 roster. The Mountaineers received a commitment from Evans Barning Jr. The forward reclassified from the 2026 class to play right away in Morgantown.
