A Yankees doom caller unloads a six-point rant claiming everyone stinks Gerrit Cole, Max Fried, Carlos Rodón, Aaron Judge, Aaron Boone, Brian Cashman and Craig Carton absolutely unloads back on The Carton Show on WFAN. Carton mocks the caller's list, fires off rapid-fire “he sucks” reactions, calls out postseason narratives, and turns the argument into must-hear radio chaos. The show then spirals into deep Boone vs Cashman debates, whether the Yankees are truly results-driven, and if Boone's clock is officially ticking without a World Series. Plus: Carton refuses to entertain Aaron Judge injury hypotheticals, breaks down why fans overreact to October stats, roasts hoodie fashion choices, shuts down on-air burping, and completely derails into Grammys confusion, naked Justin Bieber takes, mirrors at the gym, and late-night WFAN madness.

Brian Cashman met the media and managed to do the one thing Yankee fans knew was coming but still weren't ready for. He pushed back on the idea that the Yankees are “running the same team back,” and in the process somehow made everyone even angrier. Evan and Tiki break down what Cashman meant versus how he said it, why Gerrit Cole's return is both obvious and not enough, and how the front office keeps leaning on last year's trade deadline as proof this team is different. The guys debate whether the Yankees actually improved, or just reframed the same roster with better PR, why the “growing pains” comment made no sense, and how losing Juan Soto still hangs over everything. Is Cashman technically right but emotionally tone deaf, or is this just another case of Yankees fans being sold the same story with new wording? Plus, a deeper look at roster flexibility, young players like Jason Dominguez and Spencer Jones, and why this franchise still refuses to leave “no doubt” heading into Opening Day. Featuring discussion of the New York Yankees, Brian Cashman, Gerrit Cole, Cody Bellinger, Anthony Volpe, and how this all stacks up against division rivals like the Toronto Blue Jays and Boston Red Sox.

Episode 128 of Tablesetters is a mini reaction pod focused on a pivotal stretch of the offseason where one signing, one trade market, and one free agent begin to reshape how teams are positioning themselves for 2026. We open in Toronto, where the Blue Jays officially make their long-anticipated breakthrough in the Japanese market by signing Kazuma Okamoto to a four-year, $60 million contract just ahead of the expiration of his 45-day posting window. The deal is a straight four-year agreement with no opt-outs, structured as a $5 million signing bonus, a $7 million salary in 2026, and $16 million salaries in each of the final three seasons, with Okamoto represented by the Boras Corporation. To create a 40-man roster spot, Toronto designated right-hander Paxton Schultz for assignment. MLB Trade Rumors ranked Okamoto 19th on its top 50 free agents list and projected a four-year, $64 million deal, putting the final terms right in line with expectations. The signing also triggers a $10.875 million posting fee to the Yomiuri Giants under the NPB–MLB posting system. From there, we break down what Okamoto's arrival does to the Blue Jays' roster construction. The 29-year-old projects as Toronto's regular third baseman, while also bringing experience at first base and in the outfield. His versatility creates ripple effects across the lineup, including a likely platoon with Addison Barger at third base, more consistent second base work for Ernie Clement, and a positional shift that moves Andrés Giménez from second base to everyday shortstop. We also examine how the picture changes if Bo Bichette re-signs, and how crowded things could become if Toronto lands another rumored target like Kyle Tucker. The signing adds another layer to an offseason for a Blue Jays team that came within two outs of winning Game 7 of the World Series, following earlier pitching additions like Dylan Cease, Cody Ponce, and Tyler Rogers. It also effectively closes the door on pursuits of Alex Bregman and Yoán Moncada unless Toronto makes the unconventional decision to deploy Okamoto primarily in the outfield. Next, we shift to the trade market, where Edward Cabrera has emerged as one of the most consequential arms potentially available. The Yankees are actively engaged in discussions with the Marlins while also remaining involved on Freddy Peralta, with the Mets and Cubs also expressing interest in Cabrera. We break down why Cabrera's 2025 season, his power profile, his remaining club control through 2028, and his projected $3.7 million arbitration salary make him such an attractive target. We also examine the injury concerns that complicate his value, the Yankees' urgent rotation needs with Gerrit Cole and Carlos Rodón set to open the year on the injured list, and why Cabrera's affordability matters for both New York and Chicago as they juggle payroll, roster needs, and other offensive pursuits. For the Mets, we look at how their rotation has remained largely untouched despite major position-player turnover, and why their collection of young infield talent could factor into any serious push for pitching. We close with the expanding market for Cody Bellinger, as the Cubs check in and join a group that already includes the Yankees, Dodgers, Giants, Mets, Angels, Blue Jays, and Phillies at various points this offseason. We discuss why Chicago's interest reads as due diligence rather than a clear pivot, how Bellinger fits their roster, and why prospect timelines complicate any reunion. From there, we focus on the Yankees, where Bellinger remains the top offseason priority and negotiations have escalated to a second formal offer. We break down the roster logjam his return would create, how it impacts Jasson Domínguez and Spencer Jones, and why a Bellinger deal could directly intersect with New York's pursuit of Edward Cabrera. Steve and Devin connect the dots across international markets, trade leverage, payroll pressure, and roster math, focusing less on headlines and more on what these developments reveal about how teams believe they need to be built to win in 2026. ⚾️ One signing changes the board, trade talks gain momentum, and leverage begins to shift.
In a raw and transparent episode of Unkillable, Brandon Tierney delivers a brutal post-mortem on what he calls an "utterly unwatchable" decade of New York football. As the Giants prepare for the Vikings and the Jets head to New Orleans, BT admits he's rooting for losses to secure the future—specifically the potential of rookie sensation Jaxson Dart leading Big Blue to a title. He questions if the Giants will take a "big swing" at a coach like Mike Tomlin and wonders if Jets' coach Aaron Glenn is already on the hot seat. The fire moves to the diamond as BT targets Brian Cashman, standing by his claim that the Yankees GM hasn't earned the right to rebuild the roster. Despite his skepticism of management, BT geeks out over a "radical" vision for the 2026 Yankees, imagining a "best in baseball" rotation featuring a vintage Gerrit Cole, Max Fried, and Japanese ace Munetaka Murakami. He also defends young guns like Austin Wells and Ben Rice, challenging fans to recognize the "stud" potential in the Yankees' homegrown talent.
Paul Williamson is joined by Nathan Baker as they discuss the signings of Edwin Diaz and Kyle Schwarber. They also discuss the new timeline for Gerrit Cole, Yordan Alvarez will be 100% for spring plus what do the Padres have cooking? They wrap up the pod by discussing the international free agent hitters that managers need to know. Presented by FanDuel SUBSCRIBE, Rate and Review on Apple and Spotify! More Post-Dispatch podcasts. Please consider subscribing. There is no bumper sticker, no buzzy campaign slogan that captures the challenge facing Major League Baseball and its 30 clubs as economic disparity grows and the expiration of the Collective Bargaining Agreement arrives. A complex issue requires a complex solution. Or does it? A brief conversation about the Cardinals' spending strategy and past history with free agency, based on research done for The Write Fielder newsletter, spirals into a much larger debate between Best Podcast in Baseball host Derrick Goold and guest Kevin Wheeler, of KMOX/104.1 FM. After detailing how the Cardinals got into their current predicament, the questions that follow are two-fold: Do the Cardinals need to change their approach to free agency to return to contention, and does MLB need to change its economic structure for the Cardinals to have a new approach to free agency. The debate ignites from there. Wheeler makes a compelling case for how the Cardinals needed to "swim in deeper waters" for free agency and a more conservative approach caught up with them. He adds that a team now focused on development needs to produce its own stars. Goold counters by wondering what World Series contenders have developed their star and not had to outfit the roster with free-agent moves to complete the championship-caliber roster. The Yankees may have Aaron Judge, and they used prospects to trade for Juan Soto once, but they also signed Gerrit Cole. The Kansas City Royals have a homegrown, bona fide star in Bobby Witt Jr. But what's next? That's where the economics of the game enter the conversation and Wheeler's stance that the "big boys" need to play ball for the betterment of the game, and if that means taking less or receiving a smaller cut to spur and require the spending of the smaller markets so be it. Goold makes a suggestion for pulling that off that Wheeler contends would be difficult to sell to fans who what the tangible bumper sticker, not the boring details of how it gets done. Eventually they agree on one. It's the TV deal. Wheeler's arguments that hinge on a comparison to the NBA and its salary cap format require there to be a much larger national TV deal, one closer to what the NBA has. And that is the crux of this. Once that's in place then negotiations about a salarly floor, shared revenue, and an international draft to better balance talent coming from abroad are all more tangible because the largest issue -- the growing gulch between teams -- has been bridged. In its 13th season as one of the first and most widely heard podcasts on baseball and the Cardinals, the Best Podcast in Baseball has reached a new season-high with 30 episodes. Each episode is sponsored weekly by Closets by Design of St. Louis, is a production of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, StlToday.com, and lead baseball writer Derrick Goold.

BT and Sal are bracing for a chaotic MLB Winter Meetings, with Sal expecting a "blockbuster blitz" of trades and signings. The hosts recall the frenzy of Juan Soto's massive signing from a previous year that broke right at the start of the meetings. The conversation quickly pivots to the Yankees, where Sal argues against the conventional wisdom of needing an entire starting rotation overhaul. He strongly asserts the Yankees are "deficient" in position players, not pitching, and should instead strengthen their existing strength to create a "superpower" rotation with the returns of Gerrit Cole and Cam Schlittler. Tierney agrees, saying the Yankees must strengthen what they're already good at, since they can't match rivals like the Dodgers or Blue Jays in other areas. The segment sets the stage for a dramatic week of hot stove action.
Show Open: Danielle says the Yankees can't waste any more time on Aaron Judge and Gerrit Cole's primes and MUST go ALL-IN this offseason, including a Paul Skenes trade. She fears they will not.

BT & Sal unleash a fiery critique on the Detroit Tigers' front office for considering waiting until the trade deadline to move ace Tarik Skubal. Sal calls the idea "idiotic" and argues Skubal's value will "never be as good as it is right now" due to the high risk of injury (citing Gerrit Cole) and the loss of team control. He demands the exec who floated the idea be fired for being a "moron." The hosts pivot to a bold Mets trade scenario: acquiring elite talent like Gold Glovers Ezequiel Tovar and Brenton Doyle from the Rockies by taking on the catastrophic contract of Kris Bryant (still owed nearly $90 million). BT shuts down the idea after discovering Doyle's alarmingly low on-base percentage, but the debate emphasizes the Mets' need to be "very creative" on the trade front.
BT and Sal unleash a fiery critique of the Yankees' front office after Trent Grisham shocked the industry by accepting the Qualifying Offer (QO) for $22 million, a move both hosts agree was a colossal misread by the team driven by the lure of a compensatory draft pick. BT argues the QO acceptance is the "first potential domino to a horrendous offseason," fearing the added salary and player complexity will make the Yankees reluctant to pursue top targets like Cody Bellinger and Kyle Tucker. Sal pushes back, insisting the Yankees can (and must) absorb the cost and still be aggressive, specifically needing to trade prospects like Dominguez or Jones for an elite piece like Steven Kwan to truly improve. The hosts also break down the financial impact and player fit, with the conversation focusing on the Yankees' urgent need for a right-handed bat (like Alex Bregman) and the danger of running back the same "not-a-championship-team" roster. Ultimately, they agree that if the QO prevents the necessary aggressive moves, it signals a failure to adapt as Aaron Judge and Gerrit Cole's competitive window shrinks.
BT and Sal unleash a fiery critique of the Yankees' off-season strategy, arguing that Trent Grisham's acceptance of the $22 million qualifying offer is the first "domino that dooms" their plan to "roll back" the same deficient roster. Sal fears Cashman will use Gerrit Cole's return as an excuse not to make necessary, aggressive moves for players like Kwan or Tucker, while callers slam the GM for hoarding "penny stocks" prospects like Spencer Jones and Dominguez. They argue that the young core has failed to develop and the team needs an "all-in" structural overhaul. The conversation shifts to the Giants, where a caller demands that Joe Schoen must go immediately following the team's embarrassing season. BT and Sal push back on the timing, arguing that the season is lost and the organization's focus must remain on the sensitive health issues of ownership, suggesting that while Schoen should be next to go, the action will and should wait until the end of the year.
The Yankees offseason is off to a fiery start as Trent Grisham accepts the $22 million Qualifying Offer, a move Sal Licata sees as the "domino" leading to a disastrous offseason. Sal fears the Yankees are "banking on rolling this back" with a largely unchanged roster, relying solely on Gerrit Cole's return and growth from underperforming young players like Volpe and Dominguez. BT & Sal debate whether the $22 million for a defensive specialist who had an outlier offensive year will "dissuade" the Yankees from going "all in" on high-impact upgrades like Cody Bellinger or Steven Kwan. Callers join the fray, calling Cashman out for getting "caught with his pants down" and questioning the Yankees' continued reliance on unproven prospects rather than making aggressive moves to finally win a World Series.

BT & Sal brace for the Yankees' year-end press conference, laying out the fiery demands they have for Brian Cashman and Aaron Boone. They call out the GM to address the elephant in the room: roster construction and the team's annual failure to chase "Championship number 28." The hosts insist Cashman must stop doubling down on young players and be transparent about the team's future, especially regarding Volpe's regression. They also press for an update on Gerrit Cole's health and a clear answer on payroll and signing big-name free agents. The conversation also briefly touches on the overreaction to Jets QB Justin Fields' struggles and the Giants' decision on extending Brian Daboll and Jaxson Dart, with Sal arguing there's no rush for an extension when "who's knocking down Brian Daboll's door?"
BT and Sal tear into the Yankees' year-end press conferences, noting Brian Cashman's uncharacteristically "tired" and uncombative demeanor, suggesting he's worn out by the long run of disappointment. The bigger shock is the massive injury toll: Anthony Volpe (shoulder surgery), Carlos Rodón (procedure), and Gerrit Cole (on target, but likely not ready for Opening Day), clouding the offseason plans. The hosts debate Cashman's defense of Volpe's performance and his future, seeing a "first flinch" of self-doubt. They conclude that the Yankees' standard has been utterly decimated because, without any repercussions for years of post-2009 failure, "what is the standard?" Hal Steinbrenner is called out for his silence and for accepting a culture where a 94-win team can get "outclassed and mopped" by the Blue Jays.
BT & Sal gear up for the Yankees' year-end press conference by introducing "Boone & Cashman Press Conference Bingo"! The hosts predict the obligatory buzzwords—"94 Games," "Volpe," "Controllability," "Crapshoot"—while demanding the GM address the team's failed roster construction and stop deflecting with his pitching development success. They debate whether Cashman will fire back at Derek Jeter and A-Rod and reveal what they absolutely need to hear about the future of the team, Gerrit Cole's health, and potential payroll spending. The show also touches on the Giants' "big game hunting" for a receiver, the absurdity of hiring coaches based on team loyalty, and a fiery discussion on whether the NFL is fixed, especially with calls favoring the Chiefs. It all kicks off with Hoff's musical theme: "Guardians of the Galaxy."
BT and Sal celebrated the Yankees' routine return to the postseason, acknowledging it's an accomplishment that's often taken for granted in New York. Despite losing Gerrit Cole and Juan Soto, and overcoming early-season struggles like Devin Williams' high ERA, the team pivoted successfully with players like Trent Grisham, Ben Rice, and a stellar bullpen rebuilt at the deadline. The hosts agreed that while the Yankees are held to an impossibly high standard and have flaws, their consistent ability to be in the hunt—and potentially win the division—is something all fans should appreciate, especially compared to the struggles of other local teams. The focus now shifts to whether this flawed, yet dangerous, team can finally cap off a season with a World Series title.
BT and Sal's discussion rages over the Yankees' recent loss, which has all but ended their chances of winning the AL East. Sal is furious, believing the Yankees underachieved and let a weaker Toronto Blue Jays team run away with the division, making their postseason path much more difficult. He argues that with the Yankees' standard, winning the division is a must, and their failure to do so is a "disappointing regular season." BT, however, takes a more nuanced view, pointing to injuries to key players like Gerrit Cole and Louis Hill as reasons for the team's struggles, and maintains that just making the playoffs is a significant accomplishment given the circumstances. He believes the "get in and anything can happen" mentality of the modern MLB postseason makes winning the division less important. The two hosts clash on whether the Yankees' performance is a disappointment or a resilient effort.
Sal and BT debated the Yankees' postseason chances, with Sal arguing that their failure to win the division has made their road to the World Series far more difficult. He expressed disappointment in a team with the Yankees' payroll and talent not being able to beat out a division rival like the Blue Jays. BT countered that the team's injuries, particularly the loss of Gerrit Cole, should be considered, but both agreed that the Yankees' defense, inconsistent offense, and bullpen are serious concerns heading into the playoffs, especially with the added challenge of a wild card series.
The Pirates had five guys hitting under .200 in their lineup Wednesday. Henry Davis is hitting .161 this season. Gerrit Cole hit better during his Bucs career than Davis. Paul Skenes has made 24 starters in his career where he's allowed two runs or less and has lost or had a no decision. What do you do with Oneil Cruz and his slump?
Hour 1 With Boomer, Gio, and Jerry in Pebble Beach, Chris McMonigle and Willie Colon fill in. The Yankees won, but C-Mac isn't impressed, finding the constant comparison to past teams annoying. Willie agrees, noting the evolution of sports. C-Lo's update highlights the Yankees' relief win and ponders the Mets' Phillies/Reds rooting interest. They expect Pete Alonso to hit his 253rd career HR. Willie dislikes joint practices. The group discusses modern slang and Shedeur Sanders. C-Mac questions how Mets fans would react if Alonso breaks the club HR record in a loss during the team's slump. Hour 2 C-Mac and Willie discuss the Yankees, Steelers, and Aaron Rodgers. C-Lo provides an update, referencing "The Sandlot" and criticizing modern language. They also touch on Giancarlo Stanton, Aaron Boone, and quarterback criticism, defending Boone while noting areas for improvement. Hour 3 C-Mac questions if the Mets will finally call up a top pitching prospect to face the Braves, a team they struggle against. C-Mac admires Gerrit Cole's mustache. C-Lo returns with an update, first addressing a previous mistake. John Sterling offered Aaron Boone advice. Willie discovers former WFAN hosts were technologically gullible. The hour ends with the announcement of marquee Knicks game dates and times. Hour 4 Willie heads to Atlanta, C-Mac to Italy, both embarrassed by their strange algorithms. They debate baseball analytics with an old man and discuss sports entertainment, bathroom reading, and barbershop adult magazines. C-Lo updates on the Yankees' win and Clint Frazier's dislike for the organization. C-Mac discusses the changing role of managers. C-Lo shares more Joe Benigno clips and asks Willie about the 2014 Jets and John Idzik. Willie recounts the team's desire for offseason additions that Idzik refused. The Moment of The Day revisits the McAdoo Disaster. The hour ends with cruise discussions and Giants/Jets practice reports.
C-Mac speculates if the Mets will finally call up a top pitching prospect to face the Braves, a team they struggle against. C-Mac also admires Gerrit Cole's mustache. C-Lo returns with an update, first taking accountability for an earlier mistake. John Sterling offered Aaron Boone advice. Willie discovers former WFAN hosts were technologically gullible. The segment concludes with the announcement of marquee Knicks game dates and times.
