In this episode we speak with Lauren Flanagan, CEO of Sesame Solar, which builds mobile nanogrids. The product is a self-contained unit that generates its own power from solar, batteries, and stored hydrogen, set up by one person in fifteen minutes. The company started in emergency response and extreme weather, and has moved increasingly into defense. The newer focus, and the one we spent most of the episode on, is using these nanogrids to refuel hydrogen drones in the field.Most of the conversation was about whether that case holds up. Lauren's argument is that contested logistics have changed the math: fuel at the edge can run a thousand dollars a gallon all-in, the resupply convoy is a target, and the real cost is the lives spent guarding it, so making power where you stand becomes a strategic question rather than an efficiency one. We pushed on the parts that are harder to defend, the energy losses on the hydrogen path versus batteries, how thick the market for long-endurance hydrogen-powered flight actually is, and how you get from a fifty-day reserve to a six-month operational promise that's still backed by simulation rather than field data. Lauren was candid about what's proven and what isn't, and about which problems are physics and which are just adoption friction.

Tres embarcaciones partirán este viernes desde México rumbo a Cuba con 40 toneladas de ayuda humanitaria, en un intento por aliviar la crisis que atraviesa la isla —inflación superior al 10 %, apagones de hasta 18 horas, cortes prolongados de agua y escasez de alimentos— en medio de la presión de Estados Unidos. Hablamos con la activista Nikky León, de la Internacional Progresista, coalición global de movimientos y colectivos de izquierdas.  La Internacional Progresista junto con varias organizaciones mexicanas y voluntarios de todo el mundo, impulsa una iniciativa para paliar la crisis humanitaria que vive Cuba en medio de las tensiones y el bloqueo de Estados Unidos. La activista ecuatoriana Nikky León lleva un mes coordinando el envío por mar de 40 toneladas de ayuda humanitaria, que incluyen medicamentos, alimentos, paneles solares y baterías. La principal dificultad ha sido, dice, conseguir los barcos. "Yo llegué a territorio cubano hace dos semanas. Con un compañero hemos estado organizando activamente toda la ayuda. Encontramos los barcos para alquilar porque, preciso, son barcos alquilados. Nos enfrentamos a que había gente que no nos los quería alquilar, no porque no hubiera, sino por el miedo a sanciones y represalias, especialmente de Estados Unidos. Pero bueno, lo logramos. Esto nos da una lección: cuando nos organizamos y persistimos, todavía existe la solidaridad internacionalista". Un "secuestro de barco" como en Gaza parece improbable Esta semana, la Internacional Progresista consiguió enviar un avión a La Habana con unas cinco toneladas de ayuda humanitaria. Los tres barcos tienen previsto zarpar este viernes desde distintos puntos de México para llegar a Cuba el 21 de marzo. Una vez allí, el Instituto Cubano de Amistad con los Pueblos —organismo estatal de diplomacia solidaria y relaciones internacionales pueblo a pueblo— se encargará de distribuir la ayuda. La activista espera que en esta ocasión no ocurra un "secuestro" de la embarcación, como sucedió con el convoy que enviaron a Palestina a mediados de 2025. "Las posibilidades de un secuestro, como pasó con el que iba a Palestina, que nos interceptaron en aguas internacionales, están ahí, pero no a gran escala. No creemos que sea una misión especialmente riesgosa, pero en estas misiones siempre hay riesgos, y más cuando te enfrentas a un poder que lleva 60 años bloqueando y amenazando a la isla. Ese miedo o esa precaución existen, hay que tenerlos en cuenta, pero no por eso vamos a dejar de actuar", concluye.
