Conversation with Ed Melick - marriage, divorce, and the relationship that emerged
For this episode I am being interviewed by my close friend and fellow Grace junkie/radio show host Ed Melick on his show, called Grace in 30. For the first time, I wanted to share some of my personal journey on the show about my revelation of God's grace and rest and how that intersected the supernatural with the practical in my own life. Ed and I discuss my own journey from crashing a helicopter in 2007 and the amazing journey of my return as the former prodigal son to our Heavenly Father's loving arms. Highlights include me crashing a $30 million Navy helicopter and promptly being rewarded supernaturally with an incredible (and highly competitive) set of orders I definitely didn't deserve to the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California where the Navy paid me on full-time active duty to get my MBA. Talk about God's amazing grace superabounding my sin and failure! We also talk about my seemingly illogical decision to leave my budding real estate practice in the DC area to wait on God indefinitely for him to "drop something in my lap". That step of faith led to an opportunity to work for a tech startup in the beautiful Vail, Colorado area along with a great ministry opportunity and essentially my own wing of a $14 million mansion for $500 per month, tax-free. By the way, that was in an area that USA Today ranked at the time as the most unaffordable place to live in the country! I couldn't even make this stuff up if I tried...but that's where God's grace and rest lead to the bottom-line results we always talk about on the show. Check out Ed Melick and Sal D'Itri's radio show "Grace in 30". You can listen to it online at www.gracein30.com; live on the radio every Wednesday at 6PM Eastern time in the Washington, DC Metro area on WERA-LP, Arlington, 96.7 FM; as well as on iTunes, Stitcher, and other social media and podcast platforms. Are you or someone you know fighting a life-threatening illness? Have you been looking for answers that go beyond conventional medicine? Has someone’s illness driven you more deeply into your faith or even caused you to question your faith? Have you wondered, What does the Bible really say about healing, health and wellness? If you answered yes to any of these questions, you’ll find tonight’s program of particular interest. Sal D’Itri will be interviewing his Grace in 30 co-cost, Ed Melick, about his journey walking alongside his ex-wife as she battled pancreatic cancer. They talk about a number of interesting things Ed learned including the results of a deep-dive data analysis of healing in the Bible that he performed.
In April 2008, Ed Melick’s wife, Diane, told him she wanted a divorce following 22.5 years of marriage. What happened three weeks later gave him a glimpse into the realness, power, practicality, and beauty of God’s grace, and became the biggest turning point of his life. Ed joins us to talk about the restoration of his relationship with Diane over ten years and his journey alongside her as she battled pancreatic cancer.
It all started with a joke between co-workers: “We should host a radio show.” Five years later, lighthearted banter became a reality for Ed Melick, a member of Grace Community Church in Arlington, and Sal D'Itri, a parishioner at St. Ann Church in Arlington, as they launched their own radio show, “Grace in 30.” The half-hour show, at WERA-LP 96.7 FM, in Arlington, launched in May 2016.
