Send us a textEver wondered how working with plants could transform your life? Destin Noak, known online as the Texas Garden Guy, discovered gardening's therapeutic power during a period of uncertainty after leaving the Air Force in 2011. What began with his father's simple suggestion to till the backyard evolved into a passionate pursuit that would eventually open doors to a fulfilling career."It kind of gave me that relaxation, that therapy that I didn't know I needed," Destin explains, describing how working in the garden creates a meditative "white noise" that allows everything else to fade away. This accidental discovery became the foundation for a journey that would lead him from container gardening on an apartment balcony to managing a greenhouse filled with rare plants in his suburban yard.Destin's pragmatic approach to gardening challenges makes him relatable to gardeners of all experience levels. Living with poor clay soil that "cracks when it hasn't rained for about two weeks," he turned to raised beds and container gardening as solutions rather than fighting an uphill battle. His collection now includes 50 fig trees, numerous desert roses, and rare succulents – all thriving in a modest subdivision lot. For gardeners struggling with less-than-ideal conditions, Destin's success offers both inspiration and practical strategies. The conversation explores the evolution of Texas Garden Guy from pandemic hobby to multimedia platform, including his co-hosting role on The Garden Party podcast and recent position with Nelson Plant Food. Throughout the episode, Destin emphasizes starting small, growing what you genuinely enjoy, and creating garden spaces that reflect your personal preferences rather than conventional standards. "Your garden can be whatever you want it to be," he insists – advice that liberates new gardeners from unnecessary pressure.Want to meet Destin and Vikram in person? Join them at Plantapalooza 2025 at Smith's Garden Town in Wichita Falls, Texas on May 31st for a day of plant talk, community building, and garden inspiration. Unhappy about ceasefire, which they see as Indian govt's 'cowardice', extreme right-wing X accounts called foreign secretary 'spineless', 'traitor', even viciously attacking his daughter.

Law firms are threatened with draconian penalties, with scarcely disguised vengeful and politically destructive motive. Universities are dragged on the carpet, with demands that they forfeit their academic freedom, choice in hiring, and internal mission priorities. What's going on here? What is likely to happen in Court? Are the firms and universities defensible on constitutional grounds as well as because of procedural and statutory reasons? We bring on Vik Amar, former Dean at the Law School at University of Illinois, Urbana, and author of recent articles on both these crises. And while we are at it, we take a look at the forthcoming Supreme Court oral arguments in the birthright citizenship case, which superficially is about nationwide injunctions. Is that really what it's about, and in any case, is there more than that there? Three of our current crises in one sweeping conversation. CLE credit is available for lawyers and judges from podcast.njsba.com.
In this in-depth conversation, historian and author Vikram Sampath discusses his comprehensive two-volume biography on Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, one of India's most debated and influential political thinkers. Tracing Savarkar's journey from a young revolutionary in Maharashtra to his years at India House in London, and eventually to his imprisonment in the Cellular Jail, Vikram explores the ideological, cultural, and political dimensions of Savarkar's life. With a rich narrative supported by extensive research, this discussion sheds light on why Savarkar remains a polarising figure in modern India. Whether you are a student of history, politics, or simply curious about the foundations of contemporary Indian discourse, this episode offers valuable insights into the life and legacy of a man who shaped the trajectory of India's freedom struggle.About SparX by Mukesh BansalSparX is a podcast where we delve into cutting-edge scientific research, stories from impact-makers and tools for unlocking the secrets to human potential and growth. Send us a textVikram's journey from health crisis to blockchain pioneer offers a masterclass in resilient entrepreneurship. After being bedridden with spondylitis in 2004, he launched what would become India's largest blockchain consulting firm out of necessity, not grand ambition. Today, that decision has evolved into a 700-person operation transforming how we think about blockchain implementation across industries. The conversation reveals Vikram's entrepreneurial philosophy centered on three critical factors: hunger (which must come intrinsically), humility, and smartness. Coming from modest beginnings and losing his father at 12, Vikram chose not to attend college to avoid burdening his mother—instead combining self-taught skills in design, technology, and content to forge his unique path. What truly distinguishes NTR Solutions is their revolutionary approach to talent acquisition. Rather than competing for graduates from elite institutions, they identify individuals with positive attitudes and invest in developing their technical skills. "Skills can always be taught as long as you have the right attitude," explains Vikram, defining the ideal attitude as "the ability to embrace challenges without losing enthusiasm."The company's blockchain innovations span multiple sectors, from user-friendly digital wallets to their groundbreaking solution for preventing question paper leaks in government exams—a chronic problem across many Asian countries. This blockchain-powered system has already made history in India by enabling trustless exam paper creation without human intervention.Beyond building products, Vikram's vision extends to transforming his home base of Mohali into "the blockchain capital of India," creating educational pathways for local talent to thrive in this emerging technology. His perspective on leadership—"It's not like you are employing team members; first you are employed to them"—reveals why his approach has succeeded where others have faltered in the volatile blockchain space.Support the show

When faced with an ALS diagnosis, finding trustworthy information shouldn't add to your burden. This episode introduces a groundbreaking solution born from one son's love for his father.Vikram Bhaskaran takes us through the painful journey that sparked innovation – watching his father battle ALS in India while struggling to access reliable information and expertise. Vikram Bharati, founder of Draper Startup House, and Jeremy Au talked about how the startup world has shifted since their last conversation. They explored how Draper Startup House has expanded across continents while wrestling with the challenge of scaling both physical spaces and community-driven programming. They discussed how remote and hybrid work are evolving post-pandemic, and how startups are adapting faster than large corporations. They also reflected on parenting and preparing the next generation for a fast-changing world, where original thinking and adaptability may matter more than credentials. Vikram also shared his growing interest in “digital nations,” a concept that could reshape how governments serve people and how individuals relate to borders and institutions. 1. Scaling Draper Startup House globally: Vikram shares that Draper Startup House has grown to 15 locations across South America, India, and Korea, focused on building startup communities in adventurous and underserved places. 2. Finding the right people as a challenge: The model combines real estate ("hardware") and startup programming ("software"), which requires local leaders who can do both—something that's tough to find consistently. 3. Remote work is here to stay: Vikram believes the post-pandemic world has made flexible work a permanent reality, especially for startups and global teams like his, which now span the US, Brazil, India, Portugal, and more. 4. Hybrid models work best: The trend he sees is a mix of in-person and remote work—typically two or three days in the office—which balances productivity and employee satisfaction. 5. Parenting in a changing world: Both Jeremy and Vikram reflect on raising young kids today, and how future success may depend more on adaptability and creativity than traditional credentials or schooling. 6. Unique perspectives come from unplugging: Vikram suggests that stepping outside the common information feed is one way to build original thinking—especially as everyone now consumes the same digital content. 7. Digital nations as the next frontier: Vikram outlines his interest in building “digital nations”—online systems that provide government-like services and community without being bound to geography, potentially expanding opportunity beyond borders. A new Director Series at The Other BananaWe have long debated a series on director Bala. You could say that Bala is not Bala anymore and his films are increasingly becoming difficult to meaningfully engage with but, the Bala 1999-2010 was something else.A new voice broke out in Tamil cinema in 1999 with Sethu. One of the several assistants of Balu Mahendra who will go on to make a mark in the following years, Bala ushered in an auterist sensibility with unique technique, point of view, characters and settings. The Bala universe was instantly recognizable. In the first of the series, we begin with his debut in 1999 which not only kickstarted his career but also redeemed Vikram's career and pushed him into stardom. With one film, a new star actor as well as a star director were born. Listen on.ParticipantsAdityaAnanthaHariEdited by Anantha

Chandigarh is the shared capital city of the Indian states of Punjab and Haryana, built under the leadership of modernist and brutalist architect Le Corbusier, as an emblem of the postcolonial Indian nation state as visualized by the first Indian prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru. It was a repudiation of the imperialist architectural style, and for Le Corbusier a personal revenge project after his dissatisfactions with how he was treated during his planning for the United Nations building in New York. Vikramaditya Parakash says that it is a misconception that Chandigarh was built as a blueprint for a future utopia, when in fact it was built as a city where multiple ideas of futurity are put into play. Dr. Vikramaditya Prakash (B.Arch, MA, Phd) works on modernism, postcoloniality and global history. Recent books include One Continuous Line: Art, Architecture and Urbanism of Aditya Prakash and Le Corbusier's Chandigarh Revisited: Preservation as Future Modernism. What if the financial hurdles of running an e-commerce business — like cash flow struggles, banking complexities, and sales tax headaches — could be simplified into one seamless platform? In today's episode of the Tearsheet podcast, our guest Vikram Anreddy, head of product for financial services at Shopify, addresses just that. He discusses how the platform is addressing the financial needs of e-commerce entrepreneurs. His experience stems from roles at companies like Instagram and McKinsey. Anreddy is passionate about creating tools, especially the ones that ease the financial struggles of small business owners. “Entrepreneurship is such a tough game,” Anreddy says. “The odds of success are very low, and there's so much friction.” He explains that Shopify is focused on reducing friction for e-commerce merchants. The company builds tailored solutions to help them succeed. Shopify Finance helps manage cash flow and simplify sales tax. It provides tools designed for small business owners. This lets them focus on their craft, not administrative tasks. Anreddy details how Shopify Finance integrates deeply into the platform's ecosystem. This allows merchants to manage their finances where they already operate their businesses. He also sheds light on innovative offerings like Shopify Capital Loans and Shopify Balance. These cater to the unique needs of small businesses. “Our goal is to stretch cash flows and end unnecessary complexities for our merchants,” Anreddy notes. Shopify Finance: A suite of tools for e-commerce merchants Shopify Finance addresses a critical pain point for merchants: managing their money. Traditional banking solutions often fail to cater to the unique needs of e-commerce entrepreneurs. This offers limited access to credit and complex processes. “Even opening a business bank account is hard for individual entrepreneurs,” Anreddy shares. The tech firm fills this gap with offerings like Shopify Balance, an alternative to traditional business banking. Merchants enjoy faster payouts, APY rewards, and seamless integrations. Tackling cash flow management with Shopify Capital loans Cash flow is a common challenge for small businesses, especially those managing inventory. Shopify Capital provides merchants with quick access to funds, enabling them to restock inventory or invest in growth opportunities. Since its launch in 2016, Shopify Capital has disbursed over $5 billion in funding. “It has become the rocket fuel for many of our merchants,” Anreddy highlights. He emphasizes the product's impact on reducing cash flow constraints. Building merchant-centric financial tools Shopify Finance products are designed with a deep understanding of merchants' needs. They are derived from constant feedback and data insights. The platform integrates financial tools directly into its admin panel for ease. Features like APY rewards are designed to help merchants thrive. “Our merchants are incredibly driven and curious,” Anreddy says. “They adopt new tools quickly, which makes it easier to build for them.” Future of Shopify Financial Services Looking ahead, the platform plans to expand its financial services globally. It aims to integrate AI-driven insights to help merchants optimize their finances. “We are guided by two principles: stretch merchants' cash flows and save them time,” Anreddy shares. The company also aims to enhance cross-product integrations. It wants to ensure seamless work management of features like Shopify Balance, credit cards, and sales tax management. This will help to reduce friction for merchants.
