This week's guest is Caleb Klauder. If you've traveled anywhere in North America and Europe, or have spent any time listening to country music that is outside of the radio charts, you will have heard the name Caleb Klauder. Caleb represents the best of the Northwest music scene and his music has inspired many people across the globe. Caleb has been touring nationally and internationally for over 20 years. He first toured with acclaimed folk-rock band Calobo, a luminary in the Northwest’s burgeoning 90's music scene. He has been leading his own band, the Caleb Klauder Band, since 2000, a venue for his original and timeless songs. And he is a founding member of the widely celebrated Foghorn Stringband, with whom he tours regularly. Caleb's music is far reaching and influential. Have you heard Foghorn Stringband? Then you’ve heard Caleb Klauder and Reeb Willms. Based in Portland, Oregon, where the old-time music scene is alive and well, Caleb and Reeb balance life working in four different bands and still manage to keep a small food farm thriving in their front yard. When they aren’t on the road with Foghorn Stringband, or The Caleb Klauder Country Band, or the The Cajun County Revival, they are out playing house concerts and small theaters as a duo.Their vocal blend is uncanny and dreamy and makes me want to kick off my shoes, pull up a swinging chair on the front porch and sip lemonade. Caleb writes songs that get you up to do-si-do and is one heck of a mandolin player. Reeb is one of the best rhythm guitar players I’ve heard, with a right hand as steady as a metronome. They play original music, old-time, bluegrass, cajun, country, and pretty much any style in between. I spent the afternoon with them, talking about songwriting, learning to sing, juggling projects, dealing with fear and The Great Big Fais-do-do. - MMWelcome to Episode 4.MUSIC CREDITSOPHELIA (INTO/OUTRO) - LES HAYDEN HTTPS://LESHAYDEN.BANDCAMP.COMLAST OF MY KIND - PAUL BURCH http://paulburch.comNEW SHOES - CALEB KLAUDER https://calebklauder.comSOLDIER’S JOY (Traditional) - POT OF EARTH PUBLISHING (ASCAP) HTTPS://WWW.NEOSOUNDS.COM/SONGSBACK OUT WEST - WILLIAM NAUGHTON (APRA) / LYNNE PUBLISHING (PRS) HTTPS://WWW.NEOSOUNDS.COM/SONGSCAJUN GUMBO - JOHN FRANCIS JORGENSEN (BMI) / LYNNE PUBLISHING (PRS) HTTPS://WWW.NEOSOUNDS.COM/SONGSRECORDED AND HOSTED BY MICHELLE McAFEE ( MUSIC / PHOTOGRAPHY )© 2018-2019 A SONGBONES MAGAZINE PODCAST
Nadine Landry was born into a musical family in the province of Quebec in Canada. She is a member of the Foghorn Stringband and is married to the band’s fiddler, Stephen “Sammy” Lind. I interviewed Nadine when the band performed at the Oly Old-time Music Festival in Olympia, Washington, in 2015.

We at Roots probably have you conditioned by now so that when we say “bluegrass” you know we mean the whole range, from roots to branches. Our all-bluegrass shows generally include a Greensky or a Sam Bush Band, because one of the greatest things about the field is its freedom. It’s one of the ultimate artist-driven, innovation-friendly genres and we’ll always celebrate that. But this week was different – a turn toward bluegrass fundamentalism if you will. It was all trad. No rad. And boy was it excellent. Lineup in order: The Lonesome River Band Foghorn String Band Joe Mullins & The Radio Ramblers The Isaacs
We feature three songs by the members of the Foghorn Stringband and a song from the Red Stick Ramblers in honour of the upcoming concert by Cajun Country Revival this Friday. We also have lots of birthdays to celebrate plus more new and new-ish music for you.
