This is Michael Clem's Episode!   The Myth, the Magic, The Mysterious! 25% of eddie from ohio, 100% wit, grit, & spit!  So Here we are, back together again.  It's been a long time since we've hung out, so it's good to see you! I give a little update at the top of the episode, but suffice it to say, it's good be back after a long hiatus! Michael Clem is on the show today, with a conversation we had oh, about a year ago (still moving forward, ya'll, just not too swiftly). Mike is a smart, witty, hilarious, thoughtful and supersweet guy who is always up for a good stroll along a mountain path, which is by coincidence the very thing we did! I first knew Mike from eddie from ohio, a folk rock band I fell in love with in the 90s and followed steadily until they hung it up just a few years ago. It was cool to get to know him over the years as a colleague and a friend, and was so excited when he agreed to do this podcast.   You might remember I interviewed former bandmate, Robbie Schaefer, back in 2019, and we get to finally hear Mike's side of the story, as well as lots of great nuggets about life, house shows, songwriting classes and Tchaikovsky. Mike can be found at michaelclem.com, as well as his YouTube Channel, where you can find a video of Mike performing a song we chatted briefly about, Philmore Hall, from his 50 Clementines album, featuring the absolute perfect choice for a trumpet soloist you could find for this great song! In episode #250 of the XS Noize Podcast, Mark Millar is joined by Andrew Davie from Bear's Den and Irish singer-songwriter Ciaran Lavery to discuss their beautiful new collaborative EP Promiser — a stripped-back collection celebrating love, simplicity, and connection. Quietly recorded over just five days in Andrew's home studio and released via Communion Records, Promiser explores the art of restraint — capturing songs in one-take performances filled with birdsong, rain, and real human imperfection. “There was this lyrical idea early on of trying to write songs that didn't need innate conflict or tragedy to exist — songs that celebrated love in its simple, domestic moments, without the need for high drama.” — Andrew Davie, Bear's Den Drawing inspiration from the intimacy of Bruce Springsteen's Nebraska and Adrianne Lenker's Bright Future, Promiser sees both artists embracing the beauty of limitation, joined by guests Emma Gatrill and Joshua Burnside for instinctive, emotionally charged one-take performances. In this conversation, Bear's Den and Ciaran Lavery reflect on the friendship and creative spark behind Promiser — writing songs without conflict, finding meaning in everyday love, capturing raw home-studio moments, and bringing the record to life on their fast-selling Irish tour. “Working with Bear's Den felt almost accidental — we followed what felt right, not what was perfect.” — Ciaran Lavery “Ciaran's songs would just appear — almost fully formed — and that was a real joy to witness.” — Andrew Davie, Bear's Den Bear's Den are known worldwide for their cinematic folk sound and emotional honesty. Ciaran Lavery, one of Ireland's most acclaimed singer-songwriters, is celebrated for his poetic lyricism and intimate storytelling. Together, they've created something special with Promiser — a record that captures the raw beauty of two songwriters in complete creative trust. In this episode of SpaceTime, we tackle the mysteries of the cosmos with a new mathematical model of the universe and ponder the age-old question: are we alone in the universe?New Model of the UniverseScientists have unveiled a groundbreaking mathematical model aimed at simplifying our understanding of the universe's evolution over the past 13.8 billion years. This innovative research, based on data from the Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument (DESI), offers fresh insights into the cosmic web's structure, revealing how dark energy influences cosmic expansion. Lead author Leonardo Gianni from the University of Queensland discusses how this model challenges existing paradigms and provides a clearer picture of the universe's complex behaviour, including the impact of voids and collapsing regions of matter. Are We Alone?A new study presented at the European Planetary Science Congress raises intriguing questions about the existence of intelligent alien civilizations. Researchers estimate that the nearest technological society in our galaxy could be over 33,000 light years away, with conditions on their home planets potentially mirroring those of Earth. The study highlights the challenges of sustaining advanced life and the long timelines required for such civilizations to coexist with humanity.Partial Solar EclipseToday, a partial solar eclipse graced the skies over New Zealand, the South Pacific, and parts of Australia and Antarctica. As the Moon passed between the Earth and the Sun, observers witnessed a stunning celestial display with up to 70% of the Sun's face obscured. This remarkable event serves as a reminder of the intricate dance of celestial bodies that shape our night sky.www.spacetimewithstuartgary.com✍️ Episode ReferencesPhysical Review Lettershttps://journals.aps.org/prl/European Planetary Science Congresshttps://www.epsc2025.eu/Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/spacetime-space-astronomy--2458531/support.New Model of the UniverseAre We Alone?Partial Solar EclipseNew Model of the UniverseAre We Alone?Partial Solar Eclipse

When They Was Fab: Electric Arguments About the Beatles

Martin and I go back a bit more than twenty years to a time before Superdeluxe Editions, when the Lennon estate was uncertain of the best way to proceed.    Their decision?    An album called "Acoustic."    Part "Unplugged", part "Live", part "Unreleased"     Unfortunately, too much of it felt like "Sampler for the Lennon Anthology we just released."    Has time helped, hurt, or not changed the reputation, feel and listen-ability of this release.    We give it a spin and let you know what we think!
