In their conversation Paul talks about the documentary on the band and a recent show they did at the screening… and the demise of the Butthole Surfers and his retirement. Paul describes his gear currently and throughout the run of the Butthole Surfers including a Fender Custom Shop Strat made by John Cruz and he takes us through guitars that got away. Paul takes us through growing up in San Antonio and how seeing the Beatles on tv gave him the guitar bug and his guitar education playing in jazz bands. Paul discusses how he and Gibby met in college and how they started the band that eventually became the Butthole Surfers and how the name came about. Paul tells us about being produced by John Paul Jones and himself being the producer for U2, Sublime the Meat Puppets and the Reverend Horton Heat. The Taos Hum is one of America's strangest unexplained sound mysteries: a low-frequency noise heard by only a small percentage of people, often described as a distant diesel engine, electrical drone, vibration, or pulsing hum with no visible source.In this episode of Terrifying & True, we investigate the mystery of the Taos Hum in northern New Mexico, where residents including Steve Walters, Bob and Catanya Saltzman, and K.C. Grams reported a persistent unexplained hum that disrupted sleep, concentration, balance, and daily life. Some heard it inside their homes. Some heard it outdoors. Some tried to escape it, only to wonder whether the sound had followed them.As reports spread, the Taos Hum became more than a local complaint. Ryan discusses moving to Paris to perform in Buffalo Bill's Wild West show riding horses for two years and moving back and putting a band together and focusing on music playing anywhere they could. Ryan describes how a chance meeting with Marc Ford (from the Black Crowes) led to a recording deal and started his career. Ryan tells us about his current band, “the Texas Gentleman” and his current album “They Call Us the Lucky Ones”.
