Seven years later I returned to New Orleans. This time I was officiating the wedding. At the rehearsal dinner, the father of the bride found out I'd never had raw oysters. He told me tonight I'd be eating ten of them. So, I did. After the rehearsal dinner, I accompanied the wedding party down filthy funky Bourbon St. It was a Friday night, and I was in my clericals. Revelers and strippers threw beads at me and cheered the priest simply for being in their midst. What is this place and what am I doing here? As the gathering was winding down, I stopped by a nearby cigar shop and a group of guys from New Jersey celebrating their buddy's birthday told me I was their priest now and I was coming with them. I became their sober religious mascot for the rest of the evening. I still talk with some of them on Facebook. That wedding was one of my all-time favorites. The couple were natives to New Orleans, and their love and affection for each other, for their families, for their friends, for their city just poured out of them. The third time I went to New Orleans I had a steak so good I didn't eat red meat again for a month. That is not hyperbole. It was the literal best meal I have ever had, and like visiting the grave of Jesus, I don't like saying much about it because I don't want to sully something so meaningful with my pitiful words. New Orleans. It is both otherworldly and perfectly grounded. Magical and real. Gorgeous and grimy. Warm and scary. Joyous and dangerous. Poverty and wealth and theft and murder and marriage and joy and death and life and, dear God above, food and music and food and music! For all I've said here, I don't feel like I have a right to talk about New Orleans. It doesn't belong to me. The people I've since met who are from there, maybe it doesn't even belong to them so much as they belong to it. In some ways, my experience of New Orleans was not unlike my trip to the Holy Land of Palestine and Israel. Before I went, I had no experience and knew exactly what I thought. After going, I knew so much less and loved so much more. These places and these people - they don't need my opinions and they don't need me. There is so much life to be lived if I can love without judgment, if I can just go and see. Want to support our podcast? Give Here https://redeemercincy.tpsdb.com/Give/podcast

And the mountain community of Helvetia prepares to usher out Old Man Winter…on today's daily304. #1 – From WVNS-TV – The West Virginia University Institute of Technology has announced a partnership with Chef Paul Smith. The partnership will be related to the school's two-year culinary program that is hosted at the WVU Tech's Beckley campus that opened in 2020, and is offered through Potomac State College. Paul Smith was the first West Virginian to be a James Beard Foundation award finalist and he operates various restaurants in Charleston. “The partnership with Chef Paul Smith will promote and facilitate our goals of improving culinary skills of students, diversifying our curriculum and fostering community involvement through enhanced hospitality opportunities in our state,” said Chef Devin Noor, program director and teaching assistant professor of culinary arts. “Chef Paul not only brings enhanced culinary techniques but also creativity, dedication and passion that will greatly enhance student experience at WVU Tech.” Read more: https://www.wvnstv.com/top-stories/wvu-tech-culinary-program-announces-partnership-with-chef-paul-smith/ #2 – From CSR WIRE – The Chemours Company's Belle plant recently awarded a nearly $99,000 Vibrant Community grant to Explore the New Manufacturing as part of the company's commitment to invest $50 million in its communities to increase access to science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) skills, safety initiatives, and sustainable environment programs by 2030. The investment will directly benefit middle and high school students participating in educational learning programs designed to support STEM, technical careers, and development opportunities to fuel a high-potential, future workforce. The grant will benefit students in Explore's Kanawha Valley and Mid-Ohio Valley hubs. “As a chemistry company, we are passionate about inspiring the next generation of STEM professionals through early access to STEM education and mentoring,” said Nicholas Martino, Chemours Belle plant manager. “This is more important than ever with 800,000 expected job openings in STEM-related fields by 2031.” Read more: https://www.csrwire.com/press_releases/792986-chemours-belle-plant-invests-west-virginia-education-and-manufacturing #3 – From GAZETTE-MAIL – Who needs a shadow-skittish groundhog prognosticator popping up every frigid February when a burning effigy might better hasten the arrival of spring? (It also might not, but at least there's food, music, masks, and other amenities.) All of that (minus the groundhog) will be observed next month when the Swiss mountain community of Helvetia hosts its 57th annual Fasnacht. The pre-Lenten celebration is referred to as “the feast before the fast” during which an effigy of Old Man Winter is set afire to beckon and welcome the arrival of spring. The event takes place from 3 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 10, in the town square of the Randolph County community. Revelers can expect Appalachian and Swiss music, decadent foods, a parade illuminated by candle-powered lampions, and the opportunity to don colorful, homemade masks to scare away Old Man Winter (and compete for prizes). Romain Kapadia is a known entrepreneur and investor who in addition to his private equity work and success is an active Owner/Operator at several leading Texas-based events companies, The Astorian and Jackson & Company.Recently, the young, high energy, driven, thoughtful, marathon running, Romain...found himself with a quite serious battle on his hands. The fight for his life and health. When Warren read Romain's Nov 2023 Facebook post sharing his intense and immediate battle with cancer...and while doing so - eloquently expressed himself in a way that brought comfort, confidence, and positivity for those that love him...we knew this was an important interview to have. How Romain framed his thinking on what was at hand with love, grace, and "his silver linings" was profound.Romain shares how much of his drive and strength comes from how he was raised...watching his parent's who moved here to the USA with no money...and worked their way up to provide a good life for Romain and his family. Thank you to Romain and his willingness to "go there" with us in this conversation. And if you are curious about the post from Romain that moved us all? Here it is:Extended Family, Friends, Acquaintances, and fellow Revelers from around the world...As you know, I'm not one to share negative news but I want to update you on a recent health scare that I've had to deal with. My aim is to make this an uplifting and positive message.Since late 2020, I had been having a nagging running pain in my hip and have seen numerous doctors, undergone dozens of tests and months of PT to resolve the issue, but it never completely went away. Finally in late summer 2023, after undergoing yet another scan and looking for a muscle tear, the doctors came back with a totally unexpected diagnosis..."YOU HAVE CANCER".Given all the efforts I put into my health and well-being, this was a complete shock. I visited the nation's top 2 hospitals to discuss diagnosis and treatment protocols, ultimately deciding to get treated at Sloan Kettering in NYC. I am eternally grateful to have been connected to Dr. Sam Singer (https://www.mskcc.org/cancer-care/doctors/samuel-singer), likely the top Sarcoma surgeon in the world.---On October 23rd, I underwent a 16 hour surgery, requiring 4 surgical teams, to remove a 13cm liposarcoma tumor in my pelvis. The first few days were very tough but thankfully, I've been recovering well and have now almost regained my entire range of motion. After 2 weeks, I was released from the hospital but was readmitted last Tuesday, after having severe abdominal pain and vomiting for 48 hours. This was related to digestive inflammation from surgery. I was fitted with a tube through my nose and throat into my stomach. I wasn't able to eat or drink any water for 6 days...every time I swallowed it felt as if I had a bout of strep throat. The good news is, I've largely recovered and should hopefully be going home soon (again). The doctors are optimistic about me making a full recovery over the coming weeks and months.HERE'S THE SILVER LINING....Despite the trials and tribulations over the past 90 days, and despite some of the work that will be required to get back to 100%, I am eternally grateful for this diagnosis as it has enlightened me in ways not possible through the monotony of everyday routine, but only through overcoming life's toughest challenges. Here's some of what I've learned.1) YOU are your advocate (for all things in life). When a health problem arises, DO NOT give up until you have an answer. Doctors are great, but only you have the ability to persist to find solutions.2) YOU choose to be happy. Thankfully I've started down this path for the past several years, giving me the ability to see the positive and largely eliminate negative thoughts. This mental fortitude has been hugely beneficial in getting through the darkest days.3) YOU must live in the present. Enjoying the present moment relieves you from worrying about the future or regretting the past. All anxiety is driven from these thought patterns.4) DON'T waste time. We all face our own unique battles that arise unexpectedly at any time. Life is short, go for what you want and intentionally pursue the things you want with 100% conviction.5) FAMILY, FRIENDS and RELATIONSHIPS are the most important things in life. Frankly, it would have been impossible to go through this experience alone. I especially want to thank my immediate family, and close friends (you know who you are) who have shouldered my emotional roller coasters and been by my side every day. And, of course, my mom who's been my rock.---I know this will be a platform for me to live a more successful, fulfilled and happy life and I plan to utilize the lessons learned towards the rebuilding of myself into a better, stronger, wiser and more balanced Romain 2.0.I've already set a goal of running the NYC marathon in 2025 (my 14th race) and surfing later this year in El Salvador.Love you all and hope to reconnect with each and every one of you in the near future. I'll also share more updates soon.F**K CANCER,RomainPS - Apologies for the long post. The Battery Atlanta was packed with people on the last day of 2022. The celebrations outside the home of the Atlanta Braves featured two separate countdowns to the new year, one at midnight and an earlier one at 8 p.m. for children and families. The “Early Innings” New Year's bash featured multiple performances by the Braves' dance team, their drum lin, and Justin Roberts, a Grammy-nominated singer of children's music. As the rest of the Battery's restaurants and bars began to fill with late-night partiers getting an early start, families danced the early hours of the night away to the live music and the tunes put on by a DJ between performances. At the end of the countdown to 8 o'clock, giant inflatable baseballs were dropped onto the cheering crowd. #CobbCounty #Georgia #LocalNews - - - - - The Marietta Daily Journal Podcast is local news for Marietta, Kennesaw, Smyrna, and all of Cobb County. This episode has Jurek and Earl taking control of everyone's favorite Avengers (and Hawkeye...) as they play Captain America and the Avengers on the SNES! This game is a pretty standard beat em' up, with not too much to write home about. The music is just fine, but the game looks great! The guys also discuss their thoughts on the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Come have a drink with us! Cheers!NOTE: This episode was recorded on Friday May 13, 2022. Yeah, yeah, yeah... we're obviously a little behind! We give a great big thanks to those that are sticking with us! Episodes will keep coming out, but probably at a pretty slow drip feed. And it's also about introducing listeners to some spaces that may have gone undiscovered, overlooked, or underappreciated. One of the things that I love about Disney parks and resorts is that they are full of surprises. Wonderful little audible gems that can only be appreciated by slowing down, maybe taking a moment to pause, and savouring these incredibly imagineered spaces. It turns out that the entrance to Star Tours in Disney's Hollywood Studios is one of these places. I'm not sure how many times I passed through this area without fully appreciating it, but one relatively recent night, I happened to be standing in this area, taking in the scene, when I realized there was an abundance of wonderful ambient sound that had somehow missed my ears during many, many previous visits. Of course, I immediately knew I needed to capture this moment and share it with you! What you'll hear, beneath the towering evergreens of this faraway Ewok planet, is a Soundscape thriving with life and activity. This place serves as a sanctuary, a haven from the galaxy's distant rumblings. It seems that even the farthest reaches of the Galaxy hold Magic reminiscent of places that feel like home. Here, we find a warm whisper of welcome, a call to relax and let the sounds of droids and battleships intermingle with the wildlife and tree canopies rustling in the wind. Even in the midst of what is ostensibly a Star Wars production set, we find a quiet moment of joy and contentment, a space to be utterly at ease, and one with the story. The Star Wars Saga has stood the test of time, not just for its exceptional humanity, but for its ability to find us where we are and bring us Here, to spaces that feel both familiar and ethereal, out-of-this-world and entirely within our element. We are joined by our collective, shared journey, and all that we seek along the way. The Rebels and the Revelers, the Resistance and the Reflective…seeking harmony; to bring our world into balance. Light and darkness, chaos and calm, Magic held in the moments of Mundane. Right Here in Endor, or in the breathtaking embrace of your own backyard; right Here With the Magic that connects us all.

NOTE: This episode is pretty much UNLISTENABLE!! There is an odd audio click that happens every few seconds and it's extremely annoying. The only reason it's getting posted is for posterity's sake! This week Jurek and Earl take on a little more Metroid Prime! The guys have a bit of a tougher go-around this time, as they get to a boss and have some difficulty getting past it! All in all, Metroid Prime turns out to be a great game, with some major flaws. Come have a drink with us! Cheers!NOTE: This episode was recorded on Friday April 1, 2022. Again, this episode is barely worth listening to! The audio is horrible! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!! But thanks for listening, Revelers!
This episode features the shows first original Xbox game! Earl and Jurek play the multiplayer hit Fuzion Frenzy! The guys have an absolute blast playing this game! They played with two real players and two computer players, but this game is dying to be played by four actual people at once. The games are fun, easy to learn, and very fast paced! Come have a drink with us! Cheers!NOTE: This episode was recorded on Friday April 15, 2022. Our episodes are getting farther and farther apart but we promise we're working on getting back to a regular two-week schedule. Thanks for sticking with us, Revelers! We appreciate you!
Could it be? A new episode of Retro Gaming Revelry?! After a months long hiatus, the guys are back! This episode sees Earl and Jurek playing their first Gamecube game on the show! The guys try out Metroid Prime! This game turns out to be pretty fun, if not a little frustrating. Even in 2002 they were still trying to figure out first person shooter controls, and while they are almost there, it's still a little hard to control. Despite the controls, the guys have so much fun with the game, they decide to make it a two-parter! Come have a drink with us! Cheers!NOTE: This episode was recorded way back on Friday March 4, 2022. Sorry about the long delay between episodes. A lot of life is happening for both of us and we don't have the time we used to to devote to the show. That said, we are still recording and still planning on releasing episodes when we can. Thanks for listening, Revelers! ~Earl
(WARNING: The first 2 minutes of this episode have a terrible audio click that is pretty annoying to listen to! Skip to the 2 minute mark if you'd prefer to skip the terrible audio! Thanks! ~Earl) This episode has Jurek and Earl continuing to play Super Mario RPG on the Super Nintendo! The guys are a little bit farther into the game than last time, and have just as much fun! They also discuss the latest Nintendo Direct! Come have a drink with us! Cheers!NOTE: This episode was recorded on Friday February 11, 2022. As you can see, we are WAY behind on releasing episodes, considering it's now April! Many apologies for the delay, Revelers! Big thanks to those that have stuck with us! Also, we are terribly sorry for the poor audio in this episode. We have since figured out the issue, but weren't aware of it while we were recording. Thanks for listening, Revelers!
