For Ken, it's those tiny little sock hangers. For Jenny it's losing that great head of hair. We all have phobias…ours is that you won't learn enough Mandarin (ahem - on your terms) to talk about them. Let's fix that. In this podcast, learn about some common, and some not-so-common phobias, in Mandarin Chinese. Now, we want you to focus on that object directly in front of you. Allow your entire body to melt into the chair. Now, sleeeeeeeepppppppp….. Episode link: https://www.chinesepod.com/0271
Me and Ken Michaels spend a couple of hours getting uppity over people constantly slagging off Macca's musical output during the 1980's. Come listen to a man who was doing McCartney radio in the 80's, and a guy who wasn't even alive in the 80's discuss McCartney's most unfairly maligned and misunderstood decade. Peace & love. Please enjoy. Peace and love. In this week's episode of the Follower of One podcast, Mike speaks with Ken Powell. Ken is a Financial Planner with Ronald Blue Trust and builds relationships and services based on biblical principles through his work! Please welcome him to the community! Episode Breakdown 1:00 - Meet Ken Powell 1:45 - Ken's Story 4:40 - How Ken got to Seattle 7:50 - Ken's Transition to Financial Advising 14:20 - Ken's Faith in his Work 18:00 - Ken's Thoughts on the Marketplace Mission Trip 21:05 - Mike's Story 24:25 - Connect with Ken 25:05 - Ken's Family God Showing Us The Path Living your faith at work is not always easy and sometimes we don't see God's plan in our lives until we fully give everything to him. Ken talks with Mike about leaving a secure job and moving into a different direction in his life. This takes a good amount of courage and fortitude but God should give you that courage. God needs to be your backbone when you want to make a change in your life that may affect every aspect of your relationships. How has God spoken to you lately in ministering to those around you? Do you see opportunities that previously were not there? Those doors that are now open could be something special just waiting for you to take advantage and it is our job to make sure God is with us when we walk through them! Give it to God and let him take control. Making a Difference with Your Faith In Ken's example, his company directly supports filling the great commission of Christians. The impact we have every day is really to assist in making more Christians. So where does the "work" really begin? For Ken, it is all about helping people understand what they have and where they can be more targeted in their efforts with their money. What about you? Where does your work begin? Is it when you are servicing a client's needs? Is it helping a client understand how they can be better with their business? Do you sell a product that helps your clients do more? These are all aspects of every work we probably see and now is the time to start pondering on where God can be injected to build a better life for yourself and those you serve. If you are wondering how to do this, take the next Marketplace Mission Trip!
This week the Turfgrass Hotline. is tracking the Connect to Protect Tour, a 3000 mile bike journey by my friend, Ken Benoit, CGCS. Ken is the President and Founder of EcoTurf Consulting and a long time golf course superintendent conditioning golf courses for 25 years. Ken, an avid and experienced cyclist, is riding 3000 miles in 30 days with 40 lbs of gear on the Connect to Protect Tour, highlighting best management practices for water quality protection across the US. His goal is "to raise awareness within the golf industry of the importance for golf course facilities to adopt BMPs and to demonstrate, to people outside the golf community, golf’s dedication to preserving and protecting water quality, pollinators and wildlife habitat." For Ken this is as much a personal journey as a professional one. We recorded this interview on Monday August 17, right before Ken headed from State College to Westerville, OH, a 112 mile ride. Follow Ken's travels on his YouTube channel (Eco Turf Consulting) Twitter feed (@ecoturfconsult) and Instagram (@eco.turf.consulting).
In the wake of OnPace's fearless leader Carrie Miller dominating our Social Media Director Mandi Heidebrink Wilke by a final score of 7-4 on their way to the Bismarck Marathon in BISMARCK Trivia, we sat down with another Bismarck pacer and marathon legend Ken Fattmann. Fattmann - YES, DON'T TRY AND GET CUTE THAT'S HOW YOU SAY HIS NAME HE'S HAD IT HIS WHOLE LIFE HE'S FINE WITH IT IT'S GROWN ON HIM LIKE CRAWFORD'S MOLE - first takes us through a weekend in the life of a man who doesn't ever stop. For Ken, whether he's racing or pacing - alone or with his world-record holding son Calix - Ken can be found on a course somewhere. In his 60's now, Ken dominated his first marathon in 1980 and then proceeded to go on quite the lengthy recovery. By the time he went back for Marathon #2, he was 28 years older than his first. That was 11 years - and 491 and counting - marathons ago. Ken is a wonderful OnPacer, selfless, smart, caring and a great mentor - not only to the racers on the course but as someone who had the pleasure to pace with Ken at the Wausau Marathon in August, a truly giving man who in a mere five hours, taught me so much about the science behind pacing. Thank you, Ken, and we look forward to seeing you at a race again soon! #happypacehappyrace
Join us for today’s interview, where Annie sits down with Ken – who thought he had achieved spontaneous sobriety…until one relapse, which ultimately led him to find This Naked Mind. Ken was then able to do things his way, avoiding the industrialistic feel of rehab and the labels associated with AA. For Ken, this allowed him to take ownership over his journey to a naked life. Let me ask you a question. What is better than change? Lasting change, of course. If you've had trouble making change stick, either with alcohol or in any other area of your life, you are in for a treat. I created the 100 Days of Lasting Change to ensure that we don't just change for a moment, but we truly transform for a lifetime. This program is so close to my heart. Thousands of people have been through it, and their results are incredible. But don't take my word for it, check it out at thisnakedmind.com/100days. As always, rate, review and subscribe to this podcast, as it truly helps the message reach somebody who might need to hear it today. Episode Links: Hip Sobriety

Apologies for the delay in publishing this podcast. One of the joys of not being tied to "proper" radio is the freedom to give a story the length it deserves. The downside is that nobody is cracking the whip to whip things into shape on time, so that sometimes, even with the best will in the world, the schedule slips. Maybe if this were my day job ... Bread, yoghurt, pickles: I do love my domestic microbiology. So does Ken Albala, of the University of the Pacific in Stockton, California. His enthusiasm outstrips mine, though, not least because he probably has more space for his experiments. One manifestation of that enthusiasm is a Facebook group dedicated to The Cult of Pre-Pasteurian Preservation and Food Preparation. For Ken, sterilising fermented food is a no-no. Who better, then, to explain how it is that “pickled” has come to mean “boiled in vinegar” rather than “naturally fermented”. Of course, the whole business of home fermentation has reached fever pitch, manifested by the pickle trend being the number one sketch on a trendy comedy series. Let us not, however, throw the baby out with the brinewater. It really is remarkably easy, and if you want to start, there are endless reams of advice on the internet. Just ignore anything that suggests you boil the proceeds. Emboldened by Ken, I do plan to try sausages some time in the New Year. Notes If you’re on Facebook, do check out Ken Albala’s Cult. The current main man on fermentation is Sandor Katz; here’s what he has to say on facultative anaerobes (i.e. Lactobacillus species) versus obligate anaerobes such as Clostridium botulinum, and why you really have nothing to fear. Katz also did a great interview with NPR’s Fresh Air. Engage
