De overname van het Amerikaanse deel van TikTok is vrijwel rond. Niet via het Witte Huis, maar via een interne memo van TikTok-ceo Shou Zi Chew werd duidelijk dat moederbedrijf ByteDance akkoord is met een Amerikaanse eigendomsconstructie. De deal moet uiterlijk 22 januari worden afgerond, vlak voordat het decreet van president Trump afloopt waarmee een verbod op TikTok al meerdere keren werd uitgesteld. Techredacteur Stijn Goossens vertelt in de Tech Update wat dit voor gebruikers betekent. De nieuwe eigenaar wordt een Amerikaanse joint venture: TikTok USDS Joint Venture LLC. Daarin nemen onder meer techbedrijf Oracle, investeerder Silver Lake en het Abu Dhabi-fonds MGX elk een belang van 15 procent. Samen komen zij uit op 45 procent, aangevuld tot 50 procent met andere Amerikaanse investeerders. Bestaande ByteDance-investeerders behouden iets meer dan 30 procent, terwijl het Chinese ByteDance zelf net geen 20 procent houdt. Met deze constructie voldoet TikTok aan de Amerikaanse wet die een verkoop van het platform afdwong. Voor gebruikers moet er volgens TikTok weinig veranderen. ByteDance blijft betrokken bij de interoperabiliteit met de rest van het platform en advertentie-inkomsten, terwijl een onafhankelijke organisatie binnen de joint venture verantwoordelijk wordt voor contentmoderatie en databeveiliging volgens Amerikaanse regels. Wel wordt het Amerikaanse algoritme voortaan uitsluitend getraind met data van Amerikaanse gebruikers. Opvallend is dat Trump nog niet publiekelijk heeft gereageerd. De deal is formeel nog niet afgerond, maar het akkoord van ByteDance geldt als een belangrijke doorbraak in een dossier dat al bijna een jaar boven de markt hangt. Journalisten wisten het systeem te manipuleren, maakten alle producten gratis en lieten de AI zelfs meebetalen aan luxe aankopen, waardoor het project met duizend euro verlies eindigde. OnePlus zet met de OnePlus 15 opnieuw nadrukkelijk een stap extra ten opzichte van de concurrentie. Op meerdere onderdelen doet het bedrijf er bewust een schepje bovenop: een snellere chip, een hoger refresh-rate-scherm en een grotere accu dan bij veel andere topmodellen. In De Schaal van Hebben kijkt techredacteur Stijn Goossens wat die ‘plus-één-aanpak’ in de praktijk betekent. De OnePlus 15 is een van de eerste smartphones met de nieuwe Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5-chip, een processor die bij veel andere merken pas later wordt verwacht. Het AMOLED-scherm haalt een verversingssnelheid tot 165 hertz, hoger dan de 120 hertz die bij de meeste high-end toestellen gebruikelijk is. Opvallend is ook de bouwkwaliteit: OnePlus kiest dit keer voor uitgebreide water- en stofdichtheid, met zelfs een IP69K-certificering. Dat betekent dat het toestel bestand is tegen hoge-druk-waterstralen en extreme temperaturen. De grootste plus zit in de accu. Met 7.300 mAh behoort die tot de grootste in een smartphone. Dat is mogelijk door het gebruik van silicium-koolstof-batterijen, een technologie die meer capaciteit in een kleiner formaat mogelijk maakt. Opladen gaat met 120 watt, wat de laadtijd beperkt. De camera’s – drie keer 50 megapixel – leveren degelijke resultaten, maar blijven achter bij de absolute top. De samenwerking met Hasselblad is bij dit model beëindigd. Naast het topmodel is er de OnePlus 15R. Die kost met 700 tot 800 euro duidelijk minder en levert in op processor, camera’s en laadsnelheid. Daar staat wel een nog grotere batterij van 7.400 mAh tegenover. Gaat over een Fin die niet kapot is te krijgen, de hele film geen woord zegt en nazi’s op de meest geweldige manieren ombrengt. In dit vervolg neemt hij het op tegen de Russen, lekker actueel. Qualcomm launched the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 chipset, which uses an Oryon CPU structure with lower clock speeds than the Elite version and delivers increased CPU and GPU performance compared to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. The chip supports satellite connectivity, ultra wideband, and an X80 modem with slightly reduced peak 5G speeds, while maintaining Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, charging, display, and most camera hardware capabilities. The Gen 5 does not support UFS 4.1 storage.
