The Cubs took Game 1 by a score of 3–1 and followed it with a dominant 4–0 victory in Game 2. In the opener, the Cubs plated a run on a bases-loaded balk in the 5th, then broke a 1–1 tie in the top of the 7th. Felix Stevens, on a rehab assignment, followed with a solo blast to center, capping a thrilling three-run rally and securing an 11–9 Cubs victory—their second straight 11-run performance. South Bend out-hit Fort Wayne 14–12 in the back-and-forth slugfest. Catcher Ariel Armas had a standout game, going 3-for-5 with two doubles, four RBIs, and a stolen base. Edward Alvarez added three hits and two RBIs, while Stevens chipped in with two hits of his own. The Cubs offense struck in bunches, scoring four in the 3rd, and one run each in the 4th and 5th. Behind dominant pitching, timely hitting, and crisp defense, South Bend improved their standing with one of their most complete performances of the season. The story of the day was Ryan Gallagher, who delivered a masterclass on the mound. The right-hander pitched six innings of no-hit baseball, racking up eight strikeouts while walking just one. Gallagher was in total control from the first pitch, keeping TinCaps hitters off balance with a mix of fastballs, breaking balls, and pinpoint command. His performance set the tone early and gave the Cubs a strong foundation. After Gallagher’s dominant outing, the Cubs bullpen kept the momentum going. The afternoon featured the return of right-hander Kohl Franklin, making his first live appearance since the 2024 season. Franklin, on a rehab assignment, pitched two innings and showed some early-season rust, allowing three runs on four hits while walking three and striking out one.
