On a chilly Tuesday night at Great American Ball Park, the Cincinnati Reds secured an 8-4 victory over the Seattle Mariners in the series opener, marking their fourth straight win and pushing their record to 9-8, above .500 for the first time since May 2024. The game was a showcase for Austin Hays, who made a thunderous debut with the Reds after missing the season's first 16 games due to a left calf strain. Signed to a one-year, $5 million contract in January, the 2023 All-Star outfielder proved his worth, going 2-for-4 with four RBIs, including a pivotal three-run homer, and etched his name in Reds history as only the third player since 1920 to drive in at least four runs in his team debut. The Reds trailed early, with Mariners' Dylan Moore hitting a leadoff homer and adding a two-run shot off starter Nick Lodolo, who struggled, allowing four runs over 4 2/3 innings. Seattle's Luis Castillo, a former Reds ace, held a 4-2 lead into the fifth, but Cincinnati's offense, bolstered by Hays and Gavin Lux, flipped the script. Lux, who had four hits, drove in two runs, including an RBI single in the fifth that set the stage for Hays. With two on, Hays crushed a 1-1 fastball from Castillo to center field for a go-ahead three-run homer, giving the Reds a 6-4 lead they wouldn't relinquish. The crowd of 17,205 roared as Hays rounded the bases, signaling his arrival as a key piece in Cincinnati's lineup. The Reds' bullpen sealed the win, with Scott Barlow earning the victory, and Graham Ashcraft, Tony Santillan, and Emilio Pagán combining for scoreless relief. Pagán closed the ninth with ease, retiring the Mariners in order. Despite Moore's two homers and four RBIs for Seattle, their four-game win streak ended as Castillo faltered, allowing six runs in 4 1/3 innings. Hays' debut underscored the Reds' offensive potential, especially with Matt McLain and Alexis Diaz also returning from the injured list. As Cincinnati eyes a strong homestand, Hays' historic night suggests he could be the spark to sustain their momentum. The teams face off again Wednesday, with Nick Martinez starting for the Reds against Bryce Miller.

- Earl Gillespie - Blaine WalshThe Milwaukee Braves of the 1950s were one of the National League's most formidable and exciting teams, known for their powerful lineup, dominant pitching, and passionate fan base. After relocating from Boston to Milwaukee in 1953, the franchise quickly became a central force in the leagueThe move sparked a surge in attendance, with fans packing County Stadium and giving the team one of the most loyal followings in baseball at the time. Led by a core of future Hall of Famers—Hank Aaron, Eddie Mathews, and Warren Spahn—the Braves combined offensive firepower with a reliable pitching staff. Aaron and Mathews consistently ranked among the league leaders in home runs and RBIs, while Spahn remained a workhorse on the mound, racking up wins well into his late 30s. The peak of the decade came in 1957, when the Braves won the World Series, defeating the New York Yankees in seven games. They returned to the Fall Classic in 1958 but fell short in a rematch with the Yankees. Throughout the decade, the Braves remained contenders, often finishing near the top of the standings and challenging the National League's elite. By the end of the 1950s, the team was still strong but beginning to show signs of transition. While the stars remained productive, questions about long-term depth and rising competition foreshadowed the shifts that would define the 1960s. Still, the 1950s Braves left an enduring mark as one of the decade's most respected and balanced clubs.
The Phillies triumphed over the Rockies 5-1 last night at Citizens Bank Park in their first night game of the season. Zack Wheeler showcased his skills, striking out 10 batters before leaving in the 8th inning. Edmundo Sosa was a standout player, going 3-for-4 with 2 RBIs. He currently holds the title of the hottest hitter on the Phillies. The series finale is scheduled for today at 6:45pm, before the Phillies welcome the L.A. Dodgers tomorrow. Joel Embiid is set to have knee surgery this offseason, although the timeline for his recovery remains uncertain.

On April 2, 2025, the Cincinnati Reds face the Texas Rangers in the decisive third game of their series at Great American Ball Park, with first pitch set for 12:40 PM EDT. After splitting the first two games, the Reds aim to secure their first series win of the young season. The series opener saw Cincinnati's offense erupt for a 14-3 victory, powered by Elly De La Cruz's two home runs and seven RBIs, alongside Brady Singer's seven shutout innings in his Reds debut. However, the Rangers bounced back in Game 2, with Nathan Eovaldi delivering a masterful complete-game shutout, allowing just four hits in a 1-0 win, evening the series. Today's matchup features Reds right-hander Hunter Greene (0-0, 3.60 ERA) against Rangers righty Jack Leiter (1-0, 1.80 ERA). Greene, coming off a solid first start, will look to harness his electric fastball to stifle Texas' lineup, which has struggled offensively outside of Wyatt Langford's solo homer in Game 2. Leiter, fresh off his first MLB win, brings momentum but faces a Reds offense that showcased its potential in the opener. Cincinnati's key hitters, like De La Cruz and Gavin Lux, will need to solve Leiter early to avoid another quiet day at the plate. The Reds' pitching staff has shown promise, but consistency remains a question after Spiers' loss in Game 2. Defensively, Cincinnati must tighten up after De La Cruz's error in the field last night. With a daytime start and 67-degree weather in Cincinnati, conditions favor a competitive game. A Reds win would signal early-season resilience, while the Rangers hope to ride Eovaldi's momentum and steal the series on the road. Expect a tight contest as both teams vie for the upper hand in this final showdown.
Jerry returns for an update and starts with the sounds of Howie Rose as Brandon Nimmo homered as the Mets offense broke out in their win against the Marlins. Carlos Mendoza talked about the offense last night compared to Houston. Evan Roberts claims he could have gotten Aaron Judge out if he was on the Brewers. Ely De La Cruz had 7 RBIs last night for the Reds. Aaron Glenn said Justin Fields may be the QB1 right now, that's written in pencil. Kefin Stefanski talked about Shedeur Sanders as the Browns have the number two pick. Jameis Winston met the media and talked about the Giants wide receivers.
The Pittsburgh Pirates drop another one in Tampa, falling 6–1 to the Rays. The offense couldn't get anything going, managing just one run late in the game, while Tampa's Jake Mangum had a breakout performance—going 4-for-4 with 2 RBIs and 2 stolen bases. On March 31, 2025, the Cincinnati Reds delivered a resounding 14-3 victory over the Texas Rangers in their series opener at Great American Ball Park. The game showcased an explosive offensive performance, led by the electrifying Elly De La Cruz, who put on a clinic with a single, double, two home runs, and a career-high seven RBIs. De La Cruz also added a stolen base and scored four runs, demonstrating his dynamic presence on both sides of the ball. His teammate Matt McLain complemented the onslaught, going 2-for-3 with a home run, three RBIs, and four runs scored, further fueling the Reds' dominant night. The Reds' pitching was equally impressive, with Brady Singer taking the mound and silencing the Rangers' bats. Singer tossed seven shutout innings, allowing just one hit while striking out eight, providing a masterclass in efficiency and control. His performance set the tone early, giving Cincinnati's offense ample room to build an insurmountable lead. The Reds' bats erupted for 14 runs, a stark contrast to their sluggish start to the season, where they had averaged just 3.33 runs per game over their first three contests. For the Rangers, the loss marked a stumble after a strong 3-1 start against the Red Sox. Rookie pitcher Kumar Rocker, making his first MLB start, struggled to contain Cincinnati's lineup, and the Texas offense couldn't muster a response against Singer's dominance. The game, which unfolded under a chilly 43°F Cincinnati sky, ended with the Reds firmly asserting their potential. This blowout win not only snapped their early-season funk but also set an optimistic tone for the series ahead, highlighting the Reds' ability to combine stellar pitching with a suddenly awakened offense.
Send us a textIt's not really been a week in baseball but the Dodgers & Cubs have played 5 games now (Dodgers have won them all and are on a path to be undefeated) so that's close to a week. There are no narratives written in March for MLB teams. That goes for April too although teams will be almost 30 games into the season when April ends. #Yankees Aaron Judge was on a pace for nearly 500 RBIs this season when he had 11 RBIs in his first 11 ABs. That goes with his 4 home runs in three games putting him second to Adrian Gonzalez for most homers in a season's first 3 games. Judge hit 3 HRs Saturday to become the 4th Yankee to do that including Babe Ruth and A-Rod. Lou Gehrig surpassed that with (4) 3-HR games! The Yankees spanked the #Brewers and gave Nestor Cortes a bad reception at Yankee Stadium in his first game pitching for the Brewers. It was a game in which the Bronx Bombers hit 9 home runs. Shohei is hitting homers. Mookie Betts is back in the lineup and the 2024 World Series combatants are a combined 8-0 in 2025. We pick who we think will win MLB awards this season. As of March 25, 2025, the Cincinnati Reds have wrapped up their spring training in Goodyear, Arizona, finishing with a 12-17-1 record in the Cactus League. Despite the losing tally, the focus was on preparation rather than results, culminating in a strong 13-2 victory over the Cleveland Guardians in their final game. Key performances highlighted the camp: shortstop Elly De La Cruz thrived, slashing .452/.553/.839 with six extra-base hits and six stolen bases, showcasing his superstar potential. Outfielder Austin Hays led the team with 14 RBIs and a .310 average, proving his value as a cleanup hitter. Pitching-wise, Hunter Greene, set to start Opening Day on March 27 against the San Francisco Giants, struck out six in four innings during his penultimate tune-up. Nick Lodolo also impressed in the finale, signaling rotation strength. However, injuries impacted the roster—Andrew Abbott, Spencer Steer, and Tyler Stephenson will start the season on the IL, opening spots for prospects like Jacob Hurtubise and Blake Dunn. Under new manager Terry Francona, the Reds emphasized farm system development and organizational unity, aiming to end their playoff drought since 2020 as they head back to Cincinnati. In March 2025, the Cincinnati Bengals secured their star wide receivers, Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins, with lucrative long-term contracts, ensuring quarterback Joe Burrow's top targets remain in place. Chase signed a four-year, $161 million extension, making him the NFL's highest-paid non-quarterback at $40.25 million annually, with $73.9 million fully guaranteed at signing and $112 million total guaranteed. His deal includes a $41.17 million base salary and roster bonuses for 2025, with cash flow structured to deliver $105 million over three years, heavily front-loaded for flexibility. Higgins, previously on a franchise tag, inked a four-year, $115 million contract, averaging $28.75 million per year, the highest for a No. 2 receiver. His deal features $30 million fully guaranteed at signing, including a $20 million roster bonus in 2025, though his $13.8 million 2025 base salary remains unguaranteed, offering the Bengals an out after one year if needed. The Bengals deviated from their traditional signing bonus-heavy structure, opting for significant guarantees to appease Burrow's public push to retain both players. While this locks in their offensive core through 2029 (Chase) and 2028 (Higgins), critics note the team could have saved millions by acting earlier, as delays inflated costs amid a rising receiver market.

Shotgun Spratling and Jack Smith return on the Dedeaux Download Podcast to break down a second strong week to open up the 2025 USC baseball season with the Trojans picking up four wins and improving to 7-1 overall, finding ways to win close games against Big West foes UC Irvine and Cal State Fullerton, dominating Cal State Bakersfield and splitting a pair of hard-fought games on the road at Rice. Shotgun and Jack break down all the action, comparing the Trojans' strong start to the opening of the 2024 season when USC couldn't seem to get over the hump in close games early in the season. They discuss the standouts of the 4-1 week, including relievers Grant Govel and Garren Rizzo, who each had impressive scoreless outings. Fourth-year junior shortstop Bryce Martin-Grudzielanek then joins the show to talk about his hot start to the season as he's hitting .323 with seven RBIs and knocked his first homer on Tuesday. BMG talks about being able to get out on the new Dedeaux Field for the first time Wednesday and discusses the differences from last season when he dealt with a wrist injury ("it sucked") to this season's fast start for the Trojans through two weeks. He also discusses why he decided to come back to USC after being drafted in the 20th round last year and what it took to get his mother, a former UCLA softball player, to finally put on some cardinal-and-gold attire. After talking with Martin-Grudzielanek, Shotgun and Jack preview an upcoming 10-day stretch that could define the season for the Trojans as they take on Connecticut, No. 14 Vanderbilt and UCLA this weekend and a midweek matchup with No. 20 UC Santa Barbara before opening Big Ten play against No. 11 Oregon next weekend. We throw another Duraflame into the hot stove this week for a look back at the sterling, but oddly overlooked career of one of baseball's greatest "golden age" hitters. Biographer Jerry Grillo ("Big Cat: The Life of Baseball Hall of Famer Johnny Mize") helps us sort out the intriguing story of batting titan Johnny Mize - whose 15-year major league journey playing for the St. Louis Cardinals, the New York version of the Giants and five World Series-winning seasons (1949-53) with the New York Yankees - generated ten All-Star Game appearances, and a plethora of National League titles in home runs (4x), RBIs (3x) and hitting (1939) - despite missing three full seasons (1943-45) for wartime service with the US Navy. Widely considered a cinch for the Hall of Fame upon his retirement in 1953, Mize's path to Cooperstown instead took 28 years until a Veterans Committee vote in 1981 finally brought him into the pantheon of the sport's greats. Find out why the pride of Demorest, Georgia's road to baseball immortality took so long, why one of the sport's greatest underappreciated hitters unquestionably belongs in the Hall - and how the "Big Cat" unwittingly helped influence today's billion-dollar trading card industry! + + + SUPPORT THE SHOW: Buy Us a Coffee: https://ko-fi.com/goodseatsstillavailable "Good Seats" Merch: https://www.teepublic.com/?ref_id=35106 SPONSOR THANKS (AND SUPPORT THE SHOW!): Royal Retros (10% off promo code: SEATS): https://www.503-sports.com?aff=2 Old School Shirts.com (10% off promo code: GOODSEATS) https://oldschoolshirts.com/goodseats Yinzylvania (20% off promo code: GOODSEATSSTILLAVAILABLE): https://yinzylvania.com/GOODSEATSSTILLAVAILABLE BUY THE BOOK (AND SUPPORT THE SHOW!): "Big Cat: The Life of Baseball Hall of Famer Johnny Mize" (2024): https://amzn.to/3CeKNrb FIND AND FOLLOW: Website: https://goodseatsstillavailable.com/ Bluesky: https://bsky.app/profile/goodseatsstillavailable.com Threads: https://www.threads.net/@goodseatsstillavailable X/Twitter: https://twitter.com/GoodSeatsStill Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/goodseatsstillavailable/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/GoodSeatsStillAvailable/ YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@goodseatsstillavailable

Keeping his temper and attitude under control was a constant battle for Albert Belle during his baseball career. The battles included trying to fight an unruly and bigoted fan in the SEC Tournament in college, issues regarding hustle with numerous MLB managers, outright berating media members and even taking a bat to the thermostat and Kenny Lodton's boombox with Cleveland. Nevertheless, there were few if any more feared hitters in the American League during the 1990s than Belle. His 1995 campaign included an AL Pennant and the first 50 home run and 50 double season in big league history. Belle made five All Star teams, won five silver sluggers and led the AL in RBIs three times during his prime. Sadly, a hip condition erased what could have been a potential Hall of Fame career after the 2000 regular season. Listen while we discussing the ultimate highs and ultimate lows of one of MLB's angriest yet most dangerous power hitters of his era. Connect with us on Instagram! On Dec. 10, news broke that the Toronto Blue Jays were trading Jewish first baseman Spencer Horwitz to the Cleveland Guardians in exchange for second baseman Andrés Giménez and right-handed reliever Nick Sandlin. The CJN's sports podcasters, the Menschwarmers, have some mixed feelings about that: on the one hand, Giménez is an elite middle infielder; on the other hand, it's never easy to see your hometown Jewish player leave town. Horwitz—who came on this podcast in March 2023, in between suiting up for Team Israel and his breakout debut with the Jays—started making a name for himself in Toronto, with a .265/.357/.433 slash line, 12 home runs and 40 RBIs in 97 games played during the 2024 season. He was drafted in 2019 but only recently began making a name for himself on the field. And while we recorded today's podcast episode mere hours after Horwitz was traded to Cleveland, it would be another couple hours until Cleveland turned around and traded the Baltimore native to the Pittsburgh Penguins. So you won't hear any reference to that subsequent trade in this episode. But you will hear the Menschwarmers discuss other major Jewish-adjacent deals in the MLB, Timothée Chalamet's surprise appearance on College GameDay, and the Israelis who've secretly raced in the infamous Dakar Rally. Ethan Willoughby's recruitment process stands out, beginning in his high school days and culminating in his decision to join Southern Illinois University - Edwardsville (SIUE).Willoughby, a member of the Tigers class of 2022, hails from Maroa, IL, where he played for Maroa-Forsyth High School. As a senior infielder, he boasted an impressive .407 batting average and recorded 46 RBIs.Before changes to NCAA recruiting rules, commitments to college baseball programs often occurred early in a player's high school career, especially for Division I athletes. During his sophomore year, Ethan committed to Illinois State University.“I committed to Illinois State my sophomore year. They started reaching out to me as early as my freshman summer with the Tigers,” he shared. After being committed to the Redbirds for about a year, Ethan decommitted from the Missouri Valley Conference program, which initiated a second round of recruitment.“It was the same process all over again—phone call after phone call. I spoke with numerous programs at all levels of college baseball. But when I talked to Coach Lyons (Sean Lyons, head baseball coach at SIUE), I knew it was the right fit for me.”Ethan credits the Tigers coaching staff for their role in promoting him to colleges nationwide.“The Tigers really helped me a lot. I posted frequently on Twitter, tagging the Tigers staff, who would then repost my content and send it directly to college contacts. Their support was invaluable in getting my name and videos in front of coaches everywhere.”This spring, Ethan started all 56 games for the Cougars at SIUE, hitting .309 and collecting 69 hits—second on the team—along with 13 doubles.Looking ahead to the 2025 OVC campaign, Ethan aims to maintain consistency at the plate.“Consistency in my swing is key for me. - Harry Wismer- Elston HowardIn 1958, Elston Howard was in his fourth season with the New York Yankees, solidifying his role as a key player on the team. This was a standout year for Howard, as he earned his second consecutive All-Star selection and helped the Yankees win the World Series. At 29 years old, Howard was hitting his stride, batting .314 with 11 home runs and 66 RBIs in 103 games that season. This radio interview captures Howard during a pivotal time in his career. Just three years earlier, in 1955, he had broken the color barrier for the Yankees, becoming the first African American player on the team. By 1958, Howard had established himself as a versatile player, primarily catching but also playing outfield and first base. His performance was crucial to the Yankees' success, as they clinched their fourth World Series title in five years, with Howard playing a significant role in the championship run.#ElstonHoward #NYYankees #1958WorldSeries #BaseballIntegration #AllStarCatcher
The Mets take game one, scoring 8 runs without a HR and without any RBIs from Alonso or Lindor.
The Mets had a huge game 1 win in Milwaukee, scoring 8 runs without any RBIs from Alonso or Lindor. The Mets also didn't hit a HR and scored 8 runs. There is something special about this team. Luis Severino struggled early but settled in. The Jose Iglesias slide into first was the right play to make at that time. Jesse Winker and Willy Adames were jawing at each other after his triple down the line. How much fun would a Mets/Phillies NLDS be? Jerry is here for his first update of the day and starts with the sounds from Howie Rose as the Mets beat the Brewers. Jerry has all the postgame sound from the Mets key players in the game. The Braves lost to the Padres and a couple of ex-Yankees did them in. Jerry had highlights from the MLB Wild Card series. The Diamondbacks owner was asked about the Jordan Montgomery signing. He called it, ‘a horrible decision' and ‘our biggest mistake'. Aaron Rodgers was on with Pat McAfee and was asked about his relationship with Rob Saleh. There was some confusion of what Garrett Wilson said on his weekly radio spot about the Jets offense. Davante Adams has requested a trade from the Raiders. In the final segment of the hour, will Davante Adams be traded to the Jets? Boomer seems to think so. Boomer would not be surprised if he isn't a Jet next week. Rodgers seems pissed that his WRs are not where they're supposed to be when running routes. This will leave less opportunities for Garrett Wilson and he's going to want a huge contract. Boomer said he and Breece Hall have an ‘inflated view of themselves'.

Mets game 2 is tonight with Sean Manaea on the mound. A caller was very impressed with Jose Iglesias' slide into first base and how it sparked the team. We wonder if the Mets lineup will be the same tonight as it was yesterday. Boomer thinks Gio looks like JD Vance. The Mets won, so the calls are light today as Mets fans have ‘nothing to bitch about'. Jerry returns for an update but first Jerry is doing the Giants/Eagles game on the radio for Compass Media Networks. Boomer and Phil Simms will do the game with Jerry on the radio. Jerry starts with Mike Francesa's eulogy of Pete Rose. Boomer gave a different eulogy for Rose. Jerry has the sounds of Howie Rose as the Mets beat the Brewers in game 1. In the final segment of the hour, Carlos Mendoza made all the right moves in yesterday's game. It all worked out. There is a list of managers that took over for Buck Showalter and won the world series. Hour 3 Phil Simms joins us in his weekly spot. We started with the Giants going to Seattle this week and the test it will be for their defense. We also talked about the problems the Jets had with the Broncos defense. Rodgers and his receivers were just not on the same page. Phil also thinks Davante Adams will wind up with the Jets. Gio straight up asked Phil, ‘is Rob Saleh a good head coach?' Jerry returns for another update and starts with the sounds of Howie Rose as the Mets took game 1 in Milwaukee. Jerry went around the MLB Wild Card games. Garrett Wilson was on ESPN radio and he talked about the routes he's running compared to last year. Boomer said he's questioning the offensive coordinator, but Gio doesn't think so. In the final segment of the hour, Lamar Odom is getting salmon sperm facials for anti-aging purposes. A lawyer said some big names will be mentioned in the Diddy lawsuit. Hour 4 Gio is nervous tonight for the Mets because they should win the game and that concerns him. Boomer said maybe this will be ‘a Pete Alonso game'. We talked more about the Jets potentially trading for Davante Adams and how it will affect the other WRs. A caller brought up ‘Front Row Amy' at the Brewers game again last night. We also talked about ‘walking bets' by Taylor Mathis. Al thinks Lucy Burdge started that. We also wondered why all the betting experts on social media are beautiful women. Boomer's last sports minute had him putting Brian Daboll in ‘the pressure cooker'. Gio wonders who else Boomer put in there this week. He has a list. A caller wonders how much is Daboll's fault and how much is just bad players. Jerry returns for his final update of the day but first we talked about the life of a pirate. Jerry starts with the sounds of the Jets beating the Patriots. Rodgers talked about expecting wins and expecting to dominate. Jacoby Brissett said ‘they beat our ass'. Dexter Lawrence hates losing and is looking for a win in Cleveland. The Mets beat the Phillies, scoring 10 runs for the third straight game, a franchise record. The Yankees lost in Seattle and Jasson Dominguez dropped a fly ball in left. Juan Soto banged his knee against the wall on a great catch in foul territory. He seems to be ok. Shohei Ohtani is the first ever in the 50/50 club. He hit 3 home runs and 10 RBIs as he went 6-for-6 with 2 stolen bases. The Moment of The Day: Last night's Jets and Mets win is ‘spank bank' material for a caller and probably Evan Roberts. In the final segment of the week, it's our Week 3 NFL Picks!
Hour 1 The Jets beat the Patriots 24-3 and it was a vintage Aaron Rodgers performance. Now they get 10 days of rest after playing 3 games in 11 days. They are 2-1 after 3 games, exactly what we thought they would be. The Patriots were expected to be one of the worst teams in the league, as are the Broncos, who the Jets play next week. When Rodgers is behind center on third down, there is real confidence he will convert. We have not had that around here in a long time. Last night was everything we hoped it would be when the Jets went out and got Rodgers. We also talked about the awkward interaction between Rodgers and Saleh on the sideline when the Jets went up 14-0. Jerry is here for his first update of the day and starts with the sweet sounds of the Jets beating the Patriots. Rodgers explained what he said to Saleh during their sideline exchange. The Mets scored 10 runs for the third straight game as they beat the Phillies with 4 homeruns. The Yankees lost in Seattle and Juan Soto ran into a wall but he stayed in the game. Shohei Ohtani hit 3 HRs, had 10 RBIs and stole 2 bases. Oh, he also is the first ever to join the 50/50 club. He got everyone involved including tight ends, wide receivers and running backs. Someone sent a package to Gio for his dog, Elvis. It's a giant rubber duck. We also took calls from very happy Jets fans, which sounded weird. Haven't had that in a while. Jerry returns for an update and starts with the sounds of the Jets beating the Patriots. Rodgers said he heard the chants last night. The Mets beat the Phillies again, hitting four homeruns in the game. Brandon Nimmo loved the energy in the building. The Yankees lost in Seattle. Shohei Ohtani hit 3 home runs, went 6-for-6, had 10 RBIs and stole 2 bases to become the first in MLB history to join the 50/50 club. In the final segment of the hour, the Saints have been impressive the first two weeks of the season. We also talked about the Mets overachieving this season to the point that you can't criticize how it ends. A caller wonders why the Giants can't do what the Jets did last night, just ‘dink and dunk' it. Hour 2 Single Topics Segment 1- Aaron Rodgers put on a master class on how to play quarterback last night Segment 3- Why can't the Giants just do what the Jets did last night? Hour 3 The Giants will be front and center on Monday morning when we come in. Boomer said DeShaun Watson doesn't like playing at home and went over a few issues with the Browns offense. The Cleveland defense has a really good pass rush and a really good secondary. If Daniel Jones doesn't turn the ball over, they can keep it close. Myles Garrett will play but he does have a foot injury. Jerry returns for an update, but first a caller just found out his dog has an inside out vagina and called Gio for advice. Jerry starts with the sounds of the Jets win against the Patriots. Jerry has audio of Nikki Glaser on the Thursday Night Football postgame show. They had her do a roast on the set and it was odd. In the final segment of the hour, Joel Embiid got a contract extension of $64 million a year. The project faced community opposition, citing concerns over traffic, stormwater management, and potential impacts on property values. Supporters argued for the need for more student housing. The Nats took both ends of the day/night twinbill in Pittsburgh to lift their win total to 64, which is just seven fewer than last season. Mark (From PNC Park & Al begin with DJ Herz, who tossed five no hit innings during Game 1 on Saturday afternoon. Mark explains the thinking behind removing Herz after only 87 pitches. (09:00) Dylan Crews filled the box score with a homer, double, walk, two runs scored, two RBIs, and a pair of stolen bases. Crews already has three homers in under two weeks of play. These were Crews' first games in Pittsburgh since the Pirates passed over him in last summer's draft. (11:45) Kyle Finnegan's first save of the afternoon was an adventure that ended with a 6-4-3 double play to preserve the 5-3 win. (15:00) CJ Abrams inexplicably didn't complete the tag in a rundown in the bottom of the 8th of Game 2. This led to the Pirates briefly taking a two run lead before Washington's 9th inning rally. (19:30) The Nats scored four runs in the top of the 9th and batted around on their way to an 8-6 victory. The big hit belonged to Ildemaro Vargas, who's 2-run go ahead single put his team ahead for good. The rally began with Juan Yepez and many young hitters contributed to the late comeback. (27:10) Mitchell Parker struggled right away and was removed in the bottom of the 4th. Parker has not pitched well recently and has admitted that he has been "out of sync". (32:00) Kyle Finnegan is now up to 36 saves and the 40 plateau is very well within reach. Chad Cordero owns the franchise record with 47 saves from the 2005 season. Learn more about your ad choices. The Nats held off the Brewers 4-3 on Sunday afternoon to take the series. Mark & Al have more praise for Luis Garcia Jr. who homered for the second straight day. Garcia Jr. had to fight for the starting 2B job in Spring Training, but at this point seems to be a lock for Opening Day 2025. (10:30) James Wood came through with a 3-run triple to give Washington a 4-0 lead. Wood has only been with team for a month, but already has 20 RBIs. For comparison's sake, Wood has 9 more RBIs this season than Joey Gallo, who has 31 more at-bats than the rookie. (17:00) Mitchell Parker tossed six scoreless innings against a lineup that a few weeks ago scored five runs against him. Parker's ERA is at 4.06 in his rookie season. (23:15) Robert Garcia allowed three runs in the top of the 8th and the bullpen clearly is weakened since the July trades. Could Jackson Rutledge be tried out as a reliever in the final few months? (29:00) The home stand continues on Monday as the San Francisco Giants come to town for four games. Blake Snell is slated to pitch on Wednesday; coming off a No-Hitter.
