November 29, 2023 - Season 14, Episode 56 of The Terrible Podcast is now in the can. In this Wednesday morning show, Alex Kozora and I get right to talking about the latest news concerning the Pittsburgh Steelers so far this week and that includes the few transactions made by the team on Tuesday. We also discuss the overall health of the Steelers to start Week 13 on the heels of what all head coach Mike Tomlin said during his Tuesday press conference. The Tomlin weekly media session gave us quite a few talking abouts to discuss. We focus a lot on what Tomlin said about WR Diontae Johnson when it comes to his lack of effort on the first half fumble this past Sunday against the Cincinnati Bengals. Several other Tomlin presser talking points are also addressed in-depth. Hines Ward and James Harrison, two former Steelers players, are now Pro Football Hall of Fame semifinalists for 2024 so Alex and I discuss that news and the chances each have of getting into Canton this time around. Early in this show, Alex and I welcome author John Harris to the show. Harris, a former Steelers beat writer, has recently released his new book; Tomlin: The Soul of a Football Coach, just in time for the holidays. We talk extensively with Harris about his new book. If you would like to purchase his new book, please do so via this Amazon link below. It would make a great Christmas present for any fan of the Steelers. Coming out of our interview with Harris, Alex and I go over the Steelers' Week 12 win against the Bengals once again now that we both have studied the all-22 tape from that contest. We start on offense and then move on to the defense. We talk some more about the play of Steelers QB Kenny Pickett on Sunday and changes we saw on offense. We discuss the Steelers heading into Week 13 and wonder if this team might be able to make some noise in the playoffs should they ultimately make the postseason tournament. We spend time in this show talking about Steelers DL DeMarvin Leal due to his decrease in snaps played these last several weeks. We also spend time talking about several members of the Steelers rookie class heading into Week 13. Several other minor topics not noted are also discussed in this 138-minute episode as well, and we finish it up by answering several listener questions. Learn more about your ad choices. Hour 1 Gio has decided he no longer likes Aaron Rodgers. All of his buddies he brought to the team stink. He loves a conspiracy theory until there's one about his achilles injury. The Jets took Rob Saleh and Zach Wilson while the Dolphins took Mike McDaniel and Tua and got Tyreek Hill. And there is the stark difference between the Jets and Dolphins according to Gio. And Mike White is now a backup in Miami instead of the Jets. Gio realized all of this while watching the in season ‘Hard Knocks'. C-Lo is in for Jerry and is here for his first update. Aaron Rodgers was on with Pat McAfee and was asked about conspiracy theories that he didn't tear his achilles. Panthers owner David Tepper had some problems pronouncing the names of guys he just fired. In the final segment of the hour, Gio is loving the in season Hard Knocks with the Dolphins. Tyreek Hill's mother is very entertaining. There was a nacho cheese incident in the stands where she had nacho cheese spilled on her by accident. Tua wears a Go-Pro on his helmet during practice and they look at the video after practice. Hour 2 Tommy DeVito did an appearance at a deli/sub shop in NJ yesterday. Boomer wishes the Giants weren't on a bye this week because he wants more Tommy DeVito. What's the most likely ending to the Tommy DeVito story? C-Lo returns for an update and starts with audio of Aaron Rodgers talking about his return in regards to his health and the Jets playoff potential. Bill Belichick was on WEEI and said he will not be announcing starters at every position every week. Mac Jones was asked if he had the yips and he didn't know what that meant. They also asked Belichick about the rumors he already has his next team picked out. Everyone is confused by the NBA in season tournament. Mark Cuban is selling his majority stake in the Mavericks but will still be in control of operations. The Blackhawks waived Corey Perry for conduct. Gio heard he smashed out a teammate's Mom but Boomer and C-Lo said that's not true. In the final segment of the hour, Aaron Rodgers liked a tweet about not using sunscreen. Gio and Al believe that if you eat well you will not burn in the sun. Hour 3 We talked about the upcoming NFL draft and where the QBs will fall. Boomer thinks the Bears will end up with Caleb Williams. People seem to be questioning Boomer's Jets takes, saying things like, ‘take it with a grain of salt'. Gary Myers was on the Evan & Tiki Show yesterday. If you are a NY athlete and want to get in the Hall of Fame you have to ‘tongue bathe' Gary Myers. C-Lo returns for an update and has audio of Aaron Rodgers talking about his rehab and what would need to happen before he came back. Rodgers also said there are much worse stadiums than MetLife Stadium. Panthers owner David Tepper said despite what it looks like, he is a patient person. Bradley Cooper was on with Howard Stern and he asked him if he would rather win an Oscar or an Eagles Super Bowl victory. Jason Kidd is sick of writers doing nothing but writing negative articles. In the final segment of the hour, we talked to Justin Fried of Jets Press, who said of Boomer's takes, ‘take it with a grain of salt'. Hour 4 Gio said if Woody Johnson watched the in season Hard Knocks with the Miami Dolphins he should be pissed. The Dolphins got Mike McDaniel, Tua, Tyreek Hill and Mike White. They did everything right and the Jets have done everything wrong. The Giants are still competing and winning games with an undrafted rookie free agent. This shows Brian Daboll is a good coach, unlike Rob Saleh. Gio said Tommy DeVito should be sliding into DMs of Instagram models, especially on a bye week. C-Lo returns for an update but first we talked about Al already starting to listen to Christmas music. The Eagles are underdogs at home to the Niners even though they are 10-1. Tom Brady talked about teams constantly changing offenses and how much of a disadvantage it puts them at. Tyreek Hill said this Dolphins team is better than the Super Bowl team he was on with the Chiefs. Tiger Woods talked about still competing and will walk away when he can no longer win again. The Moment of The Day involved a writer who said Boomer's information should be ‘taken with a grain of salt'. In the final segment of the show, Sal dresses like a cool kid and Evan sometimes dresses like a kid who doesn't know how to put an outfit together. A caller wonders why Jack Coan doesn't get a look from NFL teams.

Football biographer Mike Richman ("George Allen: A Football Life") joins us for a decades-long journey back into the old-school NFL (and USFL) exploits of one of pro football's most intense and enigmatic sideline characters. From the dust-jacket of "A Football Life": "George Allen was a fascinating and eccentric figure in the world of football coaching. His remarkable career spanned six decades, from the late 1940s until his sudden death in 1990 at the age of seventy-three. Although he never won a Super Bowl, he never had a losing season as an NFL head coach and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2002. "In 'George Allen: A Football Life', Mike Richman captures the life and accomplishments of one of the most successful NFL coaches of all time and one of the greatest innovators in the game. A player's coach, Allen was a tremendous motivator and game strategist, as well as a defensive mastermind, and is credited with making special teams a critical focus in an era in which they were an afterthought. He had a keen eye for talent and pulled off masterful trades, often for veteran players who were viewed to be past their prime, who then had great seasons and made his teams much better. "In addition to his coaching feats, Allen had an idiosyncratic and controversial personality. His life revolved around football 24/7. One of his quirks was to minimize chewing time by consuming soft foods, giving himself more time to prepare for games and study opponents. He lived and breathed football; he compared losing to death. Allen had contentious relationships with the owners of the two NFL teams for which he was the head coach, the Washington Redskins and Los Angeles Rams. Richman explores why he was fired by those teams and whether he was blackballed from coaching again in the NFL." + + + SPONSOR THANKS: 417 Helmets (promo code: GOODSEATS): https://417helmets.com/?wpam_id=3 BUY/READ EARLY & OFTEN: George Allen: A Football Life (2023): https://amzn.to/460ezbO FIND & FOLLOW: Website: https://goodseatsstillavailable.com/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/GoodSeatsStill Instagram (+ Threads): https://www.instagram.com/goodseatsstillavailable/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/GoodSeatsStillAvailable/ YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@goodseatsstillavailable

He was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2021, his first year on the ballot, and enshrined in Canton that August. Ryan starts the conversation off by quoting Charles on an important message that he shared during his Hall of Fame speech, and asking the significance of the line, "They say a woman can't raise a man, I call bullcrap, because my mom raised two men." Charles shares why it was important for him to put that message out to the world and let him serve as proof that strong men can be raised in single mother households and talks about his own experience of being raised by his mother and how his work ethic and his will to never give up is all from watching his mom and the values she instilled in him. As hard as the NFL is and as many ups and downs, injuries, bad days and the days that make you want to walk away, Charles always remained grounded by his mother's efforts and life approach which he used to sustain his own success. Channing doesn't miss a moment in poking a little fun at Charles' singing comparing him to Demarcus Ware's recent performance, as Charles chose to sing a tribute for his mother at his Hall of Fame induction which gives the guys some material for a fun conversation. Prior to his professional career, Woodson was a two-time All-American at Michigan and led the Wolverines to an undefeated season and national championship in 1997, the same year he became the only individual to win the Heisman Trophy while playing on both sides of the ball. Fred asks about playing with Tom Brady during those years at college and what type of player he was then and the difference in Brady during the early years vs becoming one of the best to ever play in the NFL. With all the surrounding controversy around Michigan football today, Woodson remains loyal to the program and doesn't find any foul play with the information he is aware of that's gone on. Woodson goes on to talk about his own NFL career and later on playing against his college teammate sharing how a day doesn't go by where someone doesn't ask him about the infamous loss to Brady in the 2002 postseason, where Charles sacked Tom who fumbled to seal the win for the Raiders yet, it was overturned due to the "Tuck rule" and the Patriots went onto win. A moment that haunted Woodson for years which is why winning the Super Bowl with Green Bay Packers meant so much to him later on in his NFL tenure. Talking about how some of the greatest cornerbacks are often compared to Woodson, he reiterates how and why people view him as one of the greatest defensive players to step on the field with no argument on this from Ryan, Fred or Channing as they reiterate Woodson's achievements and go on to say that he himself often looks back at some of the things he did, and can't believe he did it either. Guest host Steve Wyche and the guys react to the Denver Broncos falling to 1-5 after their Thursday Night Football loss to Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs. NBC Sports Bay Area 49ers Insider Matt Maiocco and Steve discuss how the Niners went from a “dysfunctional” franchise to a perennial Super Bowl contender, how Brock Purdy's growth at quarterback has allowed Kyle Shanahan to open up San Francisco's offensive playbook, and if he (a Pro Football Hall of Fame voter) thinks Denver Broncos QB Russell Wilson is costing himself a shot to be enshrined in Canton, Ohio. Rich zooms in from London, England where he breaks down the Chiefs' offense looking like it's still not hitting on all cylinders in their TNF win over the Broncos, and weighs in on Russell Wilson's continuing struggles as Denver's QB. "Bleav in Steelers" hosts Ike Taylor and Mark Bergin discuss how the Pittsburgh Steelers are leading the AFC North division through the first five weeks of the season. The guys share their observations from the Steelers' 17-10 win against the Baltimore Ravens. Bergin credits Rodney Williams who stood out on special teams in the Steelers' win. Taylor and Bergin discuss whether the Steelers should start rookie cornerback Joey Porter Jr., whose interception helped propel the Steelers to a comeback win. Also, the guys talk about the impact Diontae Johnson should have on the team's offense. Johnson is due to return on Oct. 22 against the Los Angeles Rams. Taylor and Bergin also discuss the performance of running backs Najee Harris and Jaylen Warren. Bergin also questions why John Harbaugh went for it on fourth down late in the second quarter instead of kicking a field goal to try to go up 10 points. Bergin also wonders why the Steelers only had 10 players on the field during an illegal formation penalty late in the fourth quarter.
