The guys are back to recap what was a raucous 31-16 win for the Irish Saturday night in South Bend. The guys discuss their respective viewing experiences, in New Orleans and South Bend, before diving into the details. Kyren “Franchise” Williams made the most out of a new-look, tempo Notre Dame offense and the offensive line improved for the third consecutive outing. Isaiah Foskey continued his rise with 2 more sacks and 2 forced fumbles, while Tariq Bracy arguably played the best game of his career. Despite a big win over a rival and an electric atmosphere, it wasn't all fun and games, as Kyle Hamilton was lost to a knee injury. We discuss what that might mean for him and the team, and how we see this Irish stretch run shaping up.

There was no shortage of mistakes from the Trojans who gained more yards than the Irish but fell far short on the scoreboard. The team also talks about how interim head coach Donte Williams said after the game that he didn't feel the team lost, they simply ran out of time. Was that really the case? The Trojans didn't score a touchdown until the 4th quarter so it took a while to find the end zone, but the Irish also had a 15-point lead and was knocking on the door to score again before taking a knee to end the game. Pete Buttigieg has risen from college student to Mayor of Southbend, Indiana and all the way to Secretary of Transportation under the Biden Administration. What was behind his meteoric rise to prominence and power? How did the entire transportation and trade infrastructure of the United States end up in the hands of this relatively young and inexperienced man? Well, Pete Buttigieg's rise is primarily because of his ideology, an ideology that was first formed by his Father. Pete Buttigieg's Father was Joseph Buttigieg, who was considered one of the top scholars in the world in regards to the teachings and theories of Antonio Gramsci: the father of what is known as Cultural Marxism. So when you are wondering what has been guiding Secretary Buttigieg's frame of reference when dealing with our current infrastructure crisis, remember that Gramsci's “transformation of consciousness” influences his decision-making process. https://sovereignnations.com Support Sovereign Nations: https://paypal.me/sovnations https://patreon.com/sovnations Follow Sovereign Nations: https://sovereignnations.com/subscribe https://facebook.com/SovereignNations https://twitter.com/SovNations https://youtube.com/SovereignNations https://instagram.com/sovnations/ https://minds.com/sovnations?referrer=sovnations https://parler.com/profile/sovnations Podcast: https://soundcloud.com/sovereignnations https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-causes-of-things/id1383339158?mt=2 https://podcasts.google.com/feed/aHR0cDovL2ZlZWRzLnNvdW5kY2xvdWQuY29tL3VzZXJzL3NvdW5kY2xvdWQ6dXNlcnM6NDQ1NTczODAwL3NvdW5kcy5yc3M https://open.spotify.com/show/3mNCQcQAdawzIYAAuHfy8r https://www.stitcher.com/podcast/sovereign-nations/the-causes-of-things © 2021 Sovereign Nations. But man, does the energy and conviction with which we pursue that on our heart, when that stimulates us internally, it connects us with other people, which just multiplies the force that which we can conquer and tackle and go after and believe in and ignite and inspire others on the journey around us.” -Dr. Amber Selking  [08:24] “So what they found is that optimists in these moments, particularly task-focused moments, optimists tend to be problem-focused as they cope with it. What in this situation is actually in my control? And how can I problem solve here so that we can continue to take steps forward?” -Dr. Amber Selking  [10:30] “Optimism is saying ‘I believe in a better future and I am going to get to work to make that happen.'” -Dr. Amber Selking  [13:11]   Please get on iTunes to rate us and write a review for us! In 1952, three-year-old Ralph Miles moved with his family to South Bend after an uncle told Ralph's father that the Bendix company was hiring.  Ralph's special needs school gave him work well beyond his grade level. He left that school to attend Harrison and then Washington. The work was on grade level, and way too easy for him. Bored, and without appropriate emotional and learning spaces, he acted out. By the time he got to Washington High School, he turned to violence, particularly to combat racist white students.  Eventually, Ralph was expelled for bringing a gun into school.  He did not have a positive opinion of local Black leaders or Black organizations. He saw cronyism, colorism, and compliance with white people in power at the expense of people in his west side community.  In 2003, Civil Rights Heritage Center historian David Healey sat down to talk with Ralph Miles. They discussed Ralph's early years in his special needs school, his perspective as a disaffected high school student, and his critiques of South Bend's Black elite.  In the interview, both David and Ralph use words like “normal” and “regular” to describe Ralph's first school—the one for students with special needs. We do not condone the use of those words, as they set a rigid and unacceptable definition of “normal”, and pits those that differ as somehow irregular or abnormal.  This episode was produced by Jweetu Pangani for the Ernestine M. But, since some people don't make it a habit to read documentation, I wanted to share this fact more widely and with much excitement: the CFQueryParam tag accepts arrays for its value attribute. And, when given an array, the tag will seamless convert the parameter into a list-based parameter. This is just one of the many developer ergonomic niceties that comes with Lucee CFML.https://www.bennadel.com/blog/4128-cfqueryparam-value-attribute-seamlessly-handles-arrays-in-lucee-cfml-5-3-7-47.htm Blog - Ortus Solutions - CommandBox 5.4.2 Released! There is a new update for CommandBox CLI available.  Version 5.4.2 is a patch update that contains a few bug fixes including two important ones. There is a fix for a regression introduced in 5.4.0 where updating the version of a CF engine doesn't work without forgetting the server first. There is also an important security improvement to CommandBox servers.  Thanks to Abram Adams for reporting this to Ortus so we could address it.  https://www.ortussolutions.com/blog/commandbox-542-released Blog - Ben Nadel - Using WHERE TRUE To Create Dynamic, High-Performance SQL Queries In MySQL 5.7.32 And Lucee CFML 5.3.8.201When I write ColdFusion applications, I almost always create a "Data Access Layer" (DAL) so that my business logic isn't intermingled with my SQL query syntax. And, to make this DAL more flexible, I tend to create some sort of "By Filter" function that allows me to query a given table using a variety of WHERE conditions. In order to make this query "simple", I'll start it with a WHERE TRUE condition so that every subsequent condition can uniformly start with AND. I recently read something somewhere (source forgotten) that indicated such an approach would cause index issues; however, this does not jive with what I read in High Performance MySQL. As such, I wanted to put together a quick exploration to see how using WHERE TRUE would affect MySQL's query planner outcomes.https://www.bennadel.com/blog/4127-using-where-true-to-create-dynamic-high-performance-sql-queries-in-mysql-5-7-32-and-lucee-cfml-5-3-8-201.htm Tweet - Brad Wood - Playwright Website Screenshots Task Runner@uniquetrio2000 asked me to help figure out the Playwright Java lib which lets you take screenshots of websites.  It works pretty well once it downloads all its assets. The Irish emerged from the hostile environment at Virginia Tech to head into the bye week 5-1. On Inside the Garage, the Notre Dame teammates recount some of the memorable scenes from Saturday's 32-29 victory, including some aggressive fan heckles, a spilled box of Lucky Charms on the field, and a resilient ND squad in the locker room. They go on to discuss how Notre Dame rarely gets dealt "easy" matchups, the shifting playoff landscape, and whether or not they could imagine their school ever joining a conference. To round out the show, they field fan-submitted questions from Outside the Garage – what coach they would they take on a cross-country road trip? And: how much do they hang out with people outside the team? Finally, they hold a comprehensive spoilerfest on the latest cultural phenomenon: Squid Game. "This is the biggest game in University of Cincinnati football history," Kelly told The Enquirer's "That's So Cincinnati" podcast.  The Bearcats have a legitimate shot to make the College Football Playoff if they win this game and go onto an undefeated regular season. The plot is juicier when factoring in that Notre Dame is coached by Brian Kelly, who played a big role in turning UC into a football school as the Bearcats' coach. It will be Brian Kelly's first game against UC since he left for Notre Dame after the 2009 season.  Jim Kelly, 67, no relation to the Notre Dame coach, will be in the radio booth alongside play-by-play man Dan Hoard calling the game on 700 WLW. It's Kelly's 31st season in the booth. "This (game) is totally different. It really is," Kelly said. "There's been some big bowl games along the way. In 50-plus years, I've never seen anything like this." In the "That's So Cincinnati" interview, Kelly offers his perspective on seeing UC football go from a national punch-line to a powerhouse. He recalled being at Penn State for the Bearcats' demoralizing 81-0 loss in 1991, and described how he felt after the game. Kelly remembers there being discussions about whether UC should continue to play football.  He talked about UC's journey to the 2009 undefeated regular-season. Kelly mentioned names of those who stuck by the program and helped keep it together along the way, including his father, Jim Kelly Sr., who played for the Bearcats from 1947 to 1950. The elder Kelly went onto to be an assistant football coach and a long-time staffer of the athletic department. UC's football program annually hands out the Jim Kelly Award to the Bearcats player who shows "outstanding spirit." The school's hall of fame is named in honor of the elder Kelly. Like his father, Jim Kelly Jr. was also a top wide receiver for the Bearcats. He played for UC from 1973-1975 and was inducted into the James P. Kelly Athletics Hall Of Fame in 2017.  Some Bearcats supporters have referred to the Kellys as the "First Family of Bearcats Football." What Jim Kelly Sr. think of the Bearcat Find out more about Jim Kelly Jr. by listening to "That's So Cincinnati" podcast, which is available for free on Apple Podcasts, Spotify and iHeart Media.

Jay is joined by ESPN mainstay Sage Steele, who dives into her upbringing as a military girl and how she got her start at the worldwide leader. She also jokes with Jay about hating Notre Dame because her first gig was in South Bend, and how nervous she was her first time on the air on television. Plus Sage recalls how difficult some men made it for her to make her way in sports, with rude comments and sexual undertones that would be shouted down in today's culture but instead she let it roll off her. Jay and Sage also align on their struggles with raising kids in a digital world, and how their kids individually torture them to test their limits. And did Sage really PASS on her first gig at ESPN? We also get into her Twitter attacks from a few years back when she tweeted her political stance and how scary that was for her family. Sage also admits that she just got her COVID vaccine because ESPN mandated it or she'd lose her job.
