In this week's show, I talk with my friend and colleague in ministry, Joan Watson. After years of working in the Diocese of Nashville as the Director of Faith Formation, Joan took her dream job with Verso Ministries in South Bend, Indiana. Her new role is to prepare the hearts and souls for pilgrims before, during and after their pilgrimage. Joan shares, "One thing I think it's important to remember about pilgrimage is that it is the spiritual journey. It doesn't necessarily have to be internationally. It doesn't necessarily need to be someplace far away. Because really, a pilgrimage is actually just a microcosm of our life. That's something, so our new podcast with Verso is called In Via. On the way, on the journey, and the podcast really focuses on the fact that we're all on this journey, like the spiritual life, the Christian life, daily life is a journey, and I think this pairs so well with your ministry, Jennie, because I think we can get kind of bored and stuck in a rut and not know where we're going. But when we begin to view our lives as this journey, ultimately, hopefully this journey to heaven, but this journey that we are accompanied by different people along the way, we have different experiences along the way, we fall off the path sometimes along the way, but that our whole life is a journey. When we begin to see life that way, we realize that every life, every day is exciting. Every day has a new opportunity. And so occasionally on this pilgrimage of life, that's when St. Augustine first uses the word pilgrimage. To talk about the Christian life, not to talk about a trip to the Holy Land or a trip to Rome." Listen to the podcast to hear Joan share insight, aha moments and how a pilgrimage can impact your faith life. She also share about an upcoming pilgrimage to some unique and not so well known Marian sites. Here is how you can connect with Joan. joanmwatson.com IG: Joan.M.Watson Youtube: YouTube.com/joanwatson (No M in this) Marian Pilgrimage - June 20-30, 2024 Info here: https://versoministries.com/marian2024 Jennie is a Catholic speaker, Life Coach, Podcaster, Weekly Radio Show Host on Nashville Catholic Radio and Radio Maria USA, and founder of Catholic Moms in the Middle. After 26 years of working in Catholic education, Jennie felt God calling her "to step out of the boat" to serve in a new way. In her new ministry as a Catholic Life Coach, she now equips and encourages middle-life moms to reconnect with who they are and their unique God-given purpose so they can MAGNIFY Christ in their corner of the world.

The very special guest on this episode of The Mile High Podcast is Ali Frick. Ali is a 12th-quarter student at Sherman College of Chiropractic. She was originally from South Bend, Indiana, before making her journey to South Carolina. She found her passion for Chiropractic while in her undergraduate programs, studying exercise science and hoping to go to school to be a physical therapist. After being introduced to Chiropractic by Dr. Robert Schiffman, who explained principled Chiropractic to her, she knew Chiropractic was the career path for her and how she wanted to live her life. She is the president of Zeta Phi Chi, a principled Chiropractic sorority on the Sherman College campus. Their mission is to promote principled Chiropractic. Ali has a drive to spread the true power of Chiropractic and its philosophy. Ali will graduate from Sherman College in March 2024. Her favorite quote is, “Your attitude, not your aptitude, will determine your altitude!” Ali was selected as the student speaker for Mile High. This opportunity is given to one student each year and the contest will be open for Mile High XII in the near future. If you are a student, be watching for announcements about that. There is also an opportunity for one doctor to be selected to speak from stage as well. In this podcast, you'll enjoy hearing Ali talk about: • Chiropractic Student Life • Principled Chiropractic • The experience of being a Mile High speaker • And MUCH more! You'll have a great time listening to this accomplished young doctor-to-be and meeting her at Mile High XII. Entertainment Edition, made for those with short attention spans.. Enthusiastic delivery of 7-day weather synopsis with likely improved accuracy due to better communication about the weekend system. This episode makes reference to several National Weather Services throughout the country. This includes New York, Buffalo, St.Louis, Kansas City, Chicago, Midland TX Bismark, N.D. In addition, this episode contains info from the National Weather Service in Holley, N.J., New Orleans, South Bend, Cleveland, Norman, OK, Detroit, Milwaukie, and Duluth (or whichever one includes Lake Superior). Several other forecast discussions from additional forecast offices were used in preparation for this podcast. This includes Omaha, Des Moines, Green Bay, Wisconsin, Anchorage, Amarillo, TX, Ohio (the one that covers Cincinnati), and additional offices. Additional resources used in preparation for this episode were 3 weather articles in the Washinton Post. The computer models advertised on Windy.Com were also used in preparation, especially the European model. This is used together with the guidance offered from the forecast discussions of various national weather services. The long-term weather forecasters mentioned in this episode are believed to be from AccuWeather. This episode incorporates previous knowledge that is known to the Podcaster from being a weather Enthusiast from the time he was three. Some of that information comes from meteorologists Dave Murray and Tom Skilling. Occasionally the New York Times. The enthusiasm expressed in this episode comes from the podcaster's natural love for weather and fascination with forecasting (as do all the episodes). Some of this love was transmitted from the human voice on the NOAA weather radio. The material in the Washington Post is frequently written by Mathew Cappucci. This one includes information from Dan Stillman and possibly others, especially Jason Samenow. This episode adds clarification and has some additional info including a small discussion about El Nino. We discuss Google's new Forecasts made through artificial intelligence. It's more accurate than the European model. We make some comparisons between this week's weather pattern and a pattern back in January 2021 (and December 2019 and 2020).

In this episode, Betsy shares how her coverage of the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta caught the eye of producers at ESPN. She also shares more about the business she later founded, Game Day Communications, and why she was inspired to write a book honoring the accomplishments of female athletes who made possible the opportunities that women in sports have today. Betsy also shares highlights from some of her favorite interviews from her decades-long career as a journalist, including the inspiring words that tennis legend Billie Jean King shared with her that Betsy has never forgotten. It's our 100th episode!!! We're proud–and a little surprised, honestly–that we've made it to this milestone. Thanks to you loyal listeners for being with us throughout the journey to this point! Coincidentally, we had the joy of recording a live episode at the Christian Educators' Association Convention held in South Bend, Indiana in October 2023, which became a fun celebration for our 100th episode as well; it was great to connect with some fans of the show while we were there. We solicited a bunch of questions from the audience, and it was fun to think on our feet and interact with the crowd who joined us. It's wide-ranging conversation about a bunch of different issues in education today–from living out our calling, to teacher retention, to teacher preparation, to effective homework (Dave's favorite axe to grind)...there is a lot of ground we cover! We hope you enjoy listening in on this live session, because we sure enjoyed recording it! In this episode we reference the following, which we recommend to you: Steven Garber's powerful book, Visions of Vocation: Common Grace for the Common Good, which you can find here: https://www.amazon.com/Visions-Vocation-Common-Grace-Good/dp/0830836667 Dave's newsletter: Positivity. Passion. Purpose. Which you can access here for free: https://drdave.substack.com/
Over the past two years, doctors Jamie Wagman and Julia Dauer from Saint Mary's College collected local stories of those impacted by the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic. Last year, they gave a public presentation with clips from some of the narrators who graciously shared their stories. They did it again this past September at the Saint Joseph County Public Library with new narrators sharing a different set of stories. We shared the first presentation as a special on this feed last year, and we're doing so again now. The full versions of these oral histories are preserved and accessible through the Civil Rights Heritage Center's archives, and today we share the most recent public presentation. This episode was produced by Jamie Wagman and Julia Dauer from Saint Mary's College, and Nathalie Villalobos and George Garner from the Indiana University South Bend Civil Rights Heritage Center. Kylee Kendall is communication specialist for Beacon Health System in South Bend, Indiana. She joins Jimmy to catch up after being a communication major with him at the University of Indianapolis. She recalls her experience as Editor-in-Chief of The Reflector, UIndy's campus newspaper, and the stressful process of putting a full issue together. Originally from Elkhart, Indiana, Kylee recently moved back to her hometown for a position with Beacon Health System. Beacon Health System oversaw the care of Kylee's sister, Sarah, after she was diagnosed with cancer. This shocking news came during Kylee's freshman year at UIndy, with her sister passing away after a hard-fought five-month battle on December 7, 2013. Kylee also reflects on interning at Riley Children's Hospital, documenting patient stories like Sarah's in her experience. Kylee enjoys helping others with her communication skillset in medicine now, knowing Sarah would be proud of the work she is doing to pay it forward. Finally, Kylee & Jimmy look back on their "Friends" themed capstone Senior Project collaboration that was required for graduation. Joshua, Jude, and Brendan are done eating cheeseburgers and break out the pod machine as the Notre Dame Fighting Irish welcome Pat Narduzzi and the Pittsburgh Panthers to South Bend for a little ACC roll in the hay. In this episode: HELLO! It's spooky season. The Michigan Wolverines are out here cheating (allegedly) and whether or not it's a big deal. REVIEWS! Would the college football playoff committee leave out an 11-1 SEC team if there are four undefeated teams from Power Five conferences? We're out here causing car crashes. Going over our preseason prop bet list... and it's a lot like you think it would be (some right and a some very much not right). Brendan breaks down Pitt and tells us if the Panthers actually stink. Minimal Phil Jurkovec talk is kind of hilarious if you think about it. Sam Hartman VS Pitt (don't look it up). Weekly game picks. Is the spread too big for Notre Dame VS Pitt? The podcast's biggest Oregon State fan. The Earned 5-Star Top 20 is dominated by Jude's ballot and a matter of principle. Greg takes us out. And plenty more weaved in and out of the show. Shotgun Spratling and Chris Trevino return with a speed version of the Helium Boys Podcast following USC's trip to South Bend for its annual matchup with intersectional rival Notre Dame. The Helium Boys react to the Trojans' first loss of the season, a 48-20 loss to Notre Dame where the Irish won the turnover battle, 5-0, and were able to win in the trenches. Shotgun and Chris discuss the notable takeaways, including the troubles with the offensive line and what possible solutions there are for fixing the issues in front of quarterback Caleb Williams, who threw a career-high three interceptions -- all under duress -- and was sacked six times. Normally, the Helium Boys open with the 'Two-Minute Drill' giving their initial reactions to the Trojans' latest matchup, but this is the speed version. The 'Two-Minute Drill' was shortened to the 'One-Minute Drill' after the show's offensive coordinator called back-to-back running plays and wasted our timeouts. The speed version also incorporates a modified Stock Up/Stock Down section with the podcasting duo discussing who impressed, including Christian Roland-Wallace, the Branch brothers and Tackett Curtis. The Helium Boys also look into what stocks took a hit over the weekend such as the offensive line, the Heisman Trophy winner and the Trojans' special teams. Chris and Shotgun also look at the Trojans' highly anticipated upcoming matchup against nemesis Utah this weekend after the Utes were able to hand Lincoln Riley and Williams two of their three losses last season. The Helium Boys use your submissions during the 'Take It or Leave It' section and then answer your USC mailbag questions, picking a couple to dive into before the timer goes off. Finally, the podcast concludes with the Helium Boys giving their score predictions for the USC-Utah matchup (5 p.m. PDT) from the Coliseum this weekend. In this edition of the Peristyle Podcast hosts Ryan Abraham and Connor Morrissette (aka "Triple Double") are back in studio giving their analysis following USC's 48-20 loss to Notre Dame, looking at what went wrong and if the Trojans can get back on track with an important game against Utah coming up. Both Connor and Ryan were in South Bend for this debacle of a game that generated a wave of concern across the Trojan fan base that knows there are no breaks in this tough back half of the schedule for USC football. They give their thoughts on what they saw and heard and how much this suboptimal Trojan effort impacts their prognosis for the rest of the 2023 college football season. Head coach Lincoln Riley remains optimistic that this is a team that can turn things around, fix the issues and win the Pac-12 conference. The guys talk about what Riley had to say after the game, during his Trojans Live appearance and also after practice on Tuesday and if they agree with his assessment of this 6-1 USC football squad. They also heard from defensive coordinator Alex Grinch and several players and they discuss what everyone else had to say following this tough loss. Looking forward, two-time defending conference champion Utah comes to the Coliseum on Saturday and the guys talk about the level of importance that rests on this contest considering Riley lost to the Utes twice last season and need to bounce back from their worst effort of the season. In this episode, we chat about the importance of living in the present moment and recognizing the beauty of ordinary life. In today's modern world, we are constantly surrounded by distractions and can be tempted to focus on the past or the future and can lose sight of the gifts and graces right in this present moment. We share practical ways we live in the moment, we discuss the struggle of being in the culture, yet living differently from it, and ponder the power of prioritizing people over productivity. We invite you to take the present moment and see how the Lord is working in your life through the people and world around you. Am I the source of hurry or is the source external? What specific duties of my vocation am I avoiding or too distracted to fulfill? Discussion Questions: What is distracting you from the present moment in your daily life? Do you have a favorite way to bring yourself back to the present moment? What battles are you fighting that God isn't asking you to fight that are costing your attention? How is my current relationship with my content and media consumption? Quotes to Ponder: “If we have abandoned ourselves to God, there is only one rule for us: the duty of the present moment.” (Jean-Pierre de Caussade, Abandonment to Divine Providence) “Never let yourself think that because God has given you many things to do for Him: pressing routine jobs, a life full up with duties and demands of a very practical sort that all these need separate you from communion with Him. God is always coming to you in the Sacrament of the Present Moment. Meet and receive Him there with gratitude in that sacrament; however unexpected its outward form may be, receive Him in every sight and sound, joy, pain, opportunity and sacrifice.” (Evelyn Underhill) Scripture for Lectio: But strive first for the kingdom of God and his ]righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.“So do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring worries of its own. On this episode of the Peristyle Podcasts hosts Ryan Abraham and Coach Harvey Hyde are back together discussing what turned out to be the largest margin of defeat for the Trojans during the Lincoln Riley era, a 48-20 beatdown at the hands of Notre Dame. A huge factor in the loss was the fact that USC turned the ball over five times, including a career high three interceptions for Heisman Trophy winning quarterback Caleb Williams, and surrendered a kickoff return for a touchdown. Coach Harvey Hyde talks about how this was an extremely difficult weekend for USC fans, seeing their team go down hard on a national stage in a historic rivalry with thousands of Trojans making the trip to South Bend. He also said it was embarrassing for fans to watch how this team played, getting dominated in all three phases but especially the offense and special teams units. It was a painful experience and there is no time for the team to lick its wounds with Utah coming into the Coliseum this weekend. The Coach talks about how the USC offense couldn't get anything going, with the offensive line struggling making Williams look uncomfortable and a run game that just couldn't generate consistent production. Notre Dame played a lot of man defense and limited the separation for USC's wide receivers, making it even tougher for Williams to find someone while under pressure. Defensively the squad did play better, but it was against a more limited Fighting Irish offense. Special teams were a major issue and one that doesn't seem to be improving as the season advances. As usual the guys answer listener questions via email, text message and voicemail to finish up the show. Please review, rate and subscribe to the Peristyle Podcast on Apple Podcasts! On the latest edition of Tunnel Vision, USCFootball.com's Connor Morrissette, Ryan Abraham and Chris Trevino are in studio discussing what ultimately became a disastrous road trip for the Trojan football team over the weekend. USC fell 48-20 in a beatdown at the hands of arch rival Notre Dame. USC quarterback Caleb Williams had the worst game of his career throwing three first half interceptions, which all led to Notre Dame touchdowns. The Trojan defense took a step forward, but the unit was unable to bail out a bad night from USC's offense. The Trojans ultimately lost the turnover battle to the Fighting Irish 5-0. Can USC bounce back? Where do the Trojans go from here? This is a podcast version of our video show Tunnel Vision that you can find on our Facebook or YouTube pages. In this EMERGENCY edition of the Peristyle Podcast USCFootball.com's team of Ryan Abraham, Jack Smith, Connor Morrissette, Shotgun Spratling and Chris Trevino recorded their thoughts about USC's 48-20 loss at Notre Dame in the car on their drive back from South Bend to Chicago (at 2 in the morning). The guys take turns giving their thoughts on what went wrong as the Trojans turned the ball over five times to the Fighting Irish's zero, allowed six sacks and 11 tackles for loss while only generating one TFL and no sacks and the backbreaker, giving up a 99-yard kickoff return for a touchdown that put any chance of a late comeback out of reach. They also discuss what head coach Lincoln Riley and quarterback Caleb Williams had to say after the disappointing loss, the only two players or coaches that spoke to the media after the game. As this was literally recorded in the car driving in the middle of the night, we apologize if the audio quality isn't as high as our usually shows recorded in studio. On this latest edition of Tunnel Vision USCFootball.com's Jack Smith, Ryan Abraham and Connor Morrissette (aka Triple-Double) are back in studio to preview what will be No. 10 USC's toughest test to date, a road trip to South Bend to take on No. 21 Notre Dame. The Fighting Irish are playing their fourth ranked team in a row, going 1-2 over that stretch, and desperately need a win against USC to get their season back on track. The Trojans are a perfect 6-0 but the play on the field has been far less than perfect, so a win against a ranked opponent would go a long way to quieting the critics (at least partially). The guys talk about everything they saw and heard from USC practice and media availability this week which featured a lot of talk about the state of the Trojan defense plus injury status for freshman wide receiver Zachariah Branch and the overall health of the cornerback position. All three hosts are heading to Chicago on Friday for this one and they give their thoughts on how they think the game will go. Interestingly enough, through the first six games USC was at least a three touchdown favorite in every contest (covering only twice) and this weekend the Trojans come in as a three point underdog.
