In this episode of “This Is Purdue,” we're talking to Barry Odom, Purdue University's head football coach. In this episode, you will: Learn how Purdue's values attracted him to the university and how his early experiences shaped his leadership philosophy Discover his mentality and the lessons he shares with the team, including that football is more than what happens on Saturday afternoons — it's about representing something bigger than yourself Hear how he's approaching name, image and likeness (NIL) matters with structure and financial education in a time of ongoing change in college sports Find out how family and community are shaping his Purdue journey, from coaching his own son to leaning on his wife's support to awarding a scholarship to Ethan Trent, the younger brother of the late Tyler Trent Learn how he envisions Ross-Ade Stadium becoming one of the toughest places to play in the country and why he believes Purdue football is positioned for sustained success “Hard. In our Jan. 18, 2025 edition of GoldandBlack.com Saturday Simulcast, we visit Purdue football expert Tom Dienhart as he shares the latest roster development for the 2025 season. That and much more.
In this edition of the Peristyle Podcast hosts Ryan Abraham and Connor Morrissette (aka "Triple Double") are back in studio talking about the latest roster and coaching staff movement with the NCAA Transfer Portal opening last week and player movement happening at record rates. The biggest portal news for USC happened on Tuesday with the Branch Brothers announcing they would be the latest Trojans to transfer. Wide receiver Zachariah Branch and safety Zion Branch both were slated to play major roles on this team in 2025, but neither will be wearing Cardinal and Gold going forward after they put their names in the NCAA Transfer Portal. With Zachariah's departure, all four five-star players recruited by Lincoln Riley from the 2022 and 2023 classes have now left the program: Branch, cornerback Domani Jackson, wide receiver Duce Robinson and quarterback Malachi Nelson. USC will also be on the market to hire a new offensive line coach and offensive coordinator with Josh Henson departing to join Barry Odom at Purdue. Henson will be the offensive coordinator for the Boilermakers but unlike his role at USC, he will be the primary play caller at Purdue. The guys talk about Riley's decision to hire from within, promoting tight ends coach Zach Hanson to be the Trojans new offensive line coach. They also discuss the other players that hit the portal and some of the candidates to fill the open linebacker coaching spot. CLICK HERE for 50% OFF an annual VIP membership to USCFootball.com! To hear more, visit www.splitzoneduo.comIn this subscriber episode, Richard and Alex trade observations about a handful of recent hires in the college football coach carousel, including: * Scott Frost to UCF, where prior success doesn't tell us a lot about how the Knights will operate going forward* Matt Entz to Fresno State, Bronco Mendenhall to Utah State, and what their contracts tell us about Pac-12 realignment * Barry Odom to Purdue, where he might be fighting gravity* Matt Drinkall to Central Michigan, which follows the rule: “You're a MAC school. Be different.” * Bryan Harsin to Cal, a funny culture fit with good football rationale behind it but a big transfer portal problem already * Two new coordinators to Nebraska, which needs to get things together on offense without letting the strength of the team fall apart More Split Zone DuoFree for all: We interviewed Nick Carparelli, the executive director of Bowl Season, the umbrella group that advocates for bowl game operators. We wanted to get his thoughts on the state of the bowl system, how the bowls interact with the playoff, and where he thinks bowl games are going. The College Football Experience (@TCEonSGPN) on the Sports Gambling Podcast Network reacts to the first ever college football 12 team playoff seeding and projects just how the playoff will go and which teams got misdeed and which teams perhaps should of made the cut. Pick Dundee aka (@TheColbyD) & NC Nick (@NC__NicK) break down which teams have the best chances to win and go deep into the 12 team playoff and which teams got the shaft. Did the college football playoff selection committee get it right for the top 12 teams in the field? Should the Army Black Knights and BYU Cougars have more of a gripe than the Alabama Crimson Tide? Could Curt Cignetti and the Indiana Hoosiers knock off the Notre Dame Fighting Irish at the Golden Dome? Did the SMU Mustangs deserve to be in? Did the Oregon Ducks get shit on the most in the entire field? Are the North Carolina Tar Heels really going to hire Bill Belichek? Did Charlotte hit a home run with the Tim Albin hire?
