ArtByTai draws a rabbit-themed piece for rabbit appreciator & artist phenom Greg "Craola" Simkins. Dare I say it, yes I do, It simply doesn't get any better than this. On this episode of the DOD45 show we are pleasantly treated with the presence of Greg "Craola" Simkins & we explore all things Craola, including the short film "I'm Scared" based on Craola's characters and stories and some acrylic painting tips. But the burning question we have for him is, Is Oswald a mouse or is Mickey a rabbit? Craola confidently says he's a rabbit, but we suggest that's debatable. And hey, d'ya ever wonder how to get an artist to honestly discuss their artworks? ...well, we spend a moment pointing some things that you probably definitely shouldn't say, if you want an honest answer from the artist your talking to. Or maybe ya don't care at all, so maybe you should be the one doing the "art"ing. Craola is a human/artist that really doesn't need an introduction or any additional accredited boosting from us, so lemme just tell ya some random things that do come up in this conversation. Greg the Hammer Valentine, A Simple Plan, Talk Soup, The Lion King, Hieronymus Bosch, Frank the Rabbit, Can't Be Stopped, Tony Hawk, JNCO jeans, Burl Ives, My Bloody Valentine, Studio Ghibli, Tim Burton, Baseball cards, Mad Magazine, Garbage Pail Kids, Bob Dob, Juxtapoz, the Deviates, Zelda, Jughead, DND, Stan Lee & one of Craola's best pals Alex Pardee. It's Craola so we obviously talk about art & his artwork, but if you have an inkling of intrigue in hearing Craola speak on the previous topics, then put the car in park, cool the radiator, bury your burner phone, slip into something more comfortable & ease your soul with this episode of the DOD45 Show with Greg "Craola" Simkins. Craola worked as an illustrator for various clothing companies and brands. Then moved to video games like Tony Hawk 2X, Spiderman 2, and Ultimate Spiderman. Quotes:    “... a story a lot of successful artists have, and I'm not here to knock on art school, but you hear it a lot. You hear a lot of artists be like, it didn't help them. I guess a lot of people say that or it even pigeonholes you or puts you doing it in a way that you would have naturally not gone that direction, but the school is teaching you the right and wrong rules. And then you follow them which ends up kind of, you know, holding back your six walls around you. Yeah, you gotta be able to break through some of the rules are good.” - Greg Simkins   “We love people that have those skills that we know we don't have and right when you see it, you're just like that it's admirable.” - Aaron Della Vedova   “You raise your prices as you sell up.” - Greg Simkins   “Keep drawing and keep painting.” - Greg Simkins Get in touch: Follow Greg on: Check out Craola's artwork online shop: https://shop.gregsimkinsart.com/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/craola/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/CRAOLA Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/GregCraolaSimkins/ YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCl7dwsfG_8_cYwJNBQKSsfw Website: https://gregsimkinsart.com/ Connect with Aaron:  Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/chatsandtatts/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/AaronVedova Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/aaron.dellavedova/ YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@chatsandtatts/featured

Award-winning photographer Brent Broza shares the impact that growing up within the twin countercultures of hardcore punk and surfing had on him and helped shape his future career as an artist.   Brent started by photographing his friends in bands and his friends surfing.  Eventually he would get paid for it and would go on to photograph globally recognized musicians such as Jack Johnson, Descendents, Pennywise, Blink-182 and artists Shepard Fairey and Greg "Craola" Simkins just to name a few.   In 2016, Brent won the World Surf League's “Biggest Paddle Award” by capturing the photo of Aaron Gold's Guinness World Record wave of 63 feet at Jaws in Maui. The wave was documented as being the largest wave ever to be paddled into by a surfer.   His blurred landscape photographs, particularly of sunsets and ocean fronts, have been featured in many magazines and gallery exhibitions and have been put on public display as large-printed frescos in his hometown of Manhattan Beach.   So grab a brew, spark one up and kick back as you get the vibrant history of the life and career of Brent Broza on this episode of FIVE DOLLAR BUZZ.   Please remember to hit "like" and "subscribe" on our YouTube Channel, Spotify and iTunes. Pop Surrealism has a special place in our hearts as Juxtapoz Magazine, whether it be the special universes created by Mark Ryden, Todd Schorr, Audrey Kawasaki or even Marion Peck, but how the city of Los Angeles helped shape that narrative. Yes, an essential part of the story of Pop Surrealism is Los Angeles, the heartbeat of entertainment but also a place of experimentation and grand ideas. At the core of this story is gallerist Merry Karnowsky, who since 1997, has supported and help evolve a scene that was once her backyard and now has become an international art movement. From Ryden, Shepard Fairey, Greg "Craola" Simkins, Camille Rose Garcia and Mel Kadel, Merry Karnowsky Gallery (now KP Projects) has held it down in West Los Angeles for nearly 25 years. Not just an art gallery, Karnowsky's openings saw a combination of celebrities and LA nightlife that is legendary, long before the world of art, music and Hollywood existed so seamless as they do today. The Radio Juxtapoz podcast talks to Merry about those early years, the evolution of the scene and the unique history of underground culture of Los Angeles. The Radio Juxtapoz podcast is hosted by Fifth Wall TV's Doug Gillen and Juxtapoz editor, Evan Pricco. Episode 035 was recorded live at DesigerCon 2019.
