You stepped in for Tom Taylor on this annual—can you walk us through how that came about? Was this a story you had to write quickly, or did you have some room to breathe and make it your own? 2. The story kicks off with a classic locked-room mystery—an impossible murder in a high-tech safe room. What drew you to that kind of puzzle, and how did you approach building a detective narrative worthy of Batman?3. There's a moment where Batman's costume subtly shifts from black to blue once he's in London. Is that just a visual cue, or is there something more symbolic going on there?4. What's your take on the annual format? Do you see it as a chance to tell something self-contained and weird, or a pressure cooker to do a lot in a single oversized issue?5. You're working with a trio of incredible artists—Stefano Raffaele, John McCrea, and Fico Ossio. How did you decide who handled which parts of the story, and what did each artist bring to the table stylistically?6. This annual flirts with the idea of Batman not just solving crimes but confronting the nature of reality. How far is too far for Batman, in your mind, when it comes to stories that push past the physical world?7. UK mythology and angels? John Dee's magic - Elizabethan 8. Maybe the most important question of them all, what is Batman's favorite tea and how does he take it?

Here we go, here we go, here we go again: another Spider-Man adaptation? Don't get your webs in a tizzy, True Believers, because this one is really worth it. Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, the new animated series created by Jeff Trammell, imagines a branch of the Marvel Cinematic Universe where Peter Parker was never supposed to be bitten by that genetically altered spider–until he was. Cue wacky high school shenanigans, as a number of key changes from the comics and other shows/movies cause that butterfly effect to start flappin' its wings. Paul, Arlo, and forever guest Eric Sipple discuss how Trammell and company capture the spirit of the early Ditko/Lee comics, praise the vibrant animation, consider whether these iterations of the Osbornes are definitive, and much more. Plus, the gang pays tribute to Val Kilmer, there are new teasers for Star Wars: Tales of the Underworld and Superman, Arlo's been reading some more of the Kirby/Lee Fantastic Four, and Jonathan Hickman's Ultimate Spider-Man is the best Spidey book on the stands. NEXT: we yare what we yare, and what we yare is discussing Robert Altman's 1980 take on Popeye for a new That Was Then. Was it your own writers block? Can you describe the creative journey behind developing Seth Holms as a character struggling to write a happy ending? The comic is described as a "love letter to the Italian slasher genre"—how have films like those of Dario Argento influenced your storytelling and visuals?13How do you balance the elements of horror, gore, and B-horror camp with a critique of our cultural obsession with true crime?I really liked how, in a scene set in the narrative, you call back to the fact we're in the story within the story via lettering, was that in the script or Hassan's idea? With He Came in with a Smile as a backdrop, how does Seth's past impact the unfolding narrative in this new miniseries? What are some of the challenges you faced while infusing both literary and cinematic influences into a cohesive comic book experience? In what ways do you hope readers engage with the commentary on true crime fandom as they dive into this dark, twisted world? If you discovered that your own stories were coming to life, which character from 'You'll Do Bad Things' would you least want to encounter in a dark alley, and how would you try to escape their clutches?

Some great new functionality being added to consoles old, new, and even a whole new FOSS based handheld to check out! The wpa2psp plugin for PSP was released and took off, allowing most PSP consoles to get back onto modern WiFi networks again. The PS Vita gets some more love with a couple more ports, one for Carmageddon and another being the Ultimate Spiderman game on Android. We even go to the library on this episode thanks to the Video Game History Foundation's launch of a digital library! PS5's JAR Loader gets updated as we now see read and write access on firmwares up to 7.61! A newer minimalist type setup for a PlayStation ODE is shown thanks to PicoStation's recent updates allowing for better compatibility across the PS1's library. After the pleasant surprise of Grand Theft Auto 3 being ported to the Dreamcast, we're in for another surprise seeing the beginnings of Grand Theft Auto: Vice City being ported over! A whole new system you can build from scratch, the Game Bub, is a project we check out being a handheld FPGA console compatible with the Game Boy family of games. Finally, we take a look at... McDonald's India API security? Yeah, I won't explain that one, just give it a listen and a laugh.

As we turn the page onto season 2, looking back at the first 12 issues, is there anything you would tweak or do differently?Luigi, you've worked with Wyatt long enough to have plenty of banter about "bizarre demands." Can you describe a moment where Wyatt's vision challenged or inspired you to take the art in an unexpected direction? The series mixes playful moments with genuine horror. For both of you, what's your approach to balancing these tones, and are there horror or non-horror works that directly influenced this?I gotta ask, nudity in this title is a curious one. Sometimes we see things, sometimes genitals are covered up, what gives?!The series takes place across both mundane and fantastical locations—Estonia's cold landscapes and Las Vegas's vibrant excess are especially highlighted in Nights #13. What's the significance of setting in this arc, and how did you choose those locations? If Vince, Gray, Tsukumari, and the rest of the crew formed a rock band, what would their band name be, and what kind of music would they play?
This week on PodQuest, we have our final best of 2024 book club discussion about the Ultimate Spider-Man (2024) comic. Then Chris went and saw Captain American: Brave New World, and he played through The Plucky Squire. We also chat about The entire MCU and thoughts on if it's still popular, and Walnut finished up Ghost of Tsushima so we get some final thoughts on the end game. Our next book club we're switching themes to decades, the first one being the 2000s. And our first pick for it is 2006's Children of Men.
